CNN medical expert Dr. Sanjay Gupta announced last night that he has reversed his blanket opposition to marijuana use, saying he once misled the public. Gupta, whose documentary on weed airs on Sunday, issued a 180 on Piers Morgan Tonight and in an op-ed called “Why I Changed My Mind On Weed.” Sanjay Gupta Apologizes For Misleading Weed Stance “I have apologized for some of the earlier reporting because I think, you know, we’ve been terribly and systematically misled in this country for some time,” he said. “And I did part of that misleading.” He said that while he formerly derided medical marijuana supporters, he has since done research that had shown him how beneficial it could be: “I mistakenly believed the Drug Enforcement Agency listed marijuana as a schedule 1 substance because of sound scientific proof,” he writes. “Surely, they have quality reasoning as to why marijuana is in the category of the most dangerous drugs that have ‘no accepted medicinal use and a high potential for abuse.'” “They didn’t have science to support that claim, and I now know that when it comes to marijuana neither of those things are true.” “It doesn’t have a high potential for abuse, and there are very legitimate medical applications. This is so sad. A three-year-old girl is dead after her mom’s negligent friend was too busy playing on Facebook to notice she had slipped into the pool , where she drowned. Via NY Daily News reports : A 3-year-old girl drowned a few feet from the Dallas woman who was supposed to watch her — while she allegedly browsed Facebook. Kariasa Thomas, 37, was charged with reckless injury to a child Wednesday, authorities said. The tragedy occurred at Thomas’ apartment complex pool where she and her legally blind husband brought her daughter, 16, and four of her friend’s children, ages 3, 5, 6 and 7. Thomas only let the toddler, Kanyce Giddings, stand on the steps leading into the water because the girl did not know how to swim, according to the arrest affidavit. Despite this inability, Kanyce was not equipped with a flotation aid or any other type of safety gear, The Dallas Morning News reported. While lounging poolside, Thomas logged onto Facebook with her phone for about 15 minutes and played with her dog — never looking up to check on the children in the water, police said. A complex security guard, who is also a Dallas police officer, told Thomas that the pool was closed. But when she called out to the children, Giddings did not respond. Thomas borrowed the guard’s flashlight to look for the child. She accidentally kicked her upon stepping in the pool, the affidavit said. The security performed CPR while a bystander called 911. The girl was pronounced dead at Methodist Charlton Medical Center that night, according to local station WFAA. It took police until last Saturday to book Thomas. “That was just the investigative process. We never want to rush anything,” Sgt. Warren Mitchell told the Daily News. “We want to look into every case as thoroughly as we can.” Her bond was set at $25,000. SMH @ her accidentally kicking the little girl! There’s drama afoot at Vicki’s end-of-season party on The Real Housewives of Orange County . But then it wouldn’t really be an OC party without drama, now would it? No, it wouldn’t. Let’s dissect the drama one more time with our THG +/- recap. Slade and Gretchen arrive at Vicki’s party and can’t find anyone. Because they’re all sitting around talking about Gretchen and Slade. Minus 12. Slade pays Lydia an actual compliment and she calls him a douche anyway. Two wrongs and a right, or something, I guess. Minus 4. Ryan tells Slade and Gretchen that Brooks isn’t allowed on the property because he’s not a great man and he’s a liar and Brooks is bad. Vicki’s on the phone with Brooks while that’s all going down. Lydia brings her mom to the party. Maybe Grandma brought the party favors? Heather and Gretchen have a chat where Heather says she’d never throw Gretchen under the bus with people in the industry. Heather’s acting a little jealous, to be honest. It doesn’t flatter her at all. Minus 8. She hears nothing Gretchen has to say about how Gretchen feels and only says “No, you’re wrong for feeling that way.” Then Heather calls Gretchen and Slade out for their behavior at Hot in Cleveland . And that’s when she has a point. Heather admits to being hurt and making the Malibu Country stuff sound worse than it was because of being hurt. Then Heather says that when she’s wrong, she admits she’s wrong. Except Heather doesn’t seem to think she’s wrong? Gretchen can’t apologize for doing the wrong thing in getting up and leaving during the filming. Heather can’t apologize for being condescending. They call it a wash. Plus 5? Vicki gives Tamra another friendship bracelet. A bigger, nicer bracelet than the one Gretchen gave her. Oh well. Plus 5 because something’s better than nothing? Tamra finally makes amends with Jim Bellino in an emotional apology, then says she’s happy she can be the bigger person in cases such as this. Don’t give yourself too much credit, T … but progress is progress. Plus 10 . “I own live here,” Ryan says, chastising Lydia’s mom Judy for putting her feet up on the table at the party … think there’s some tension building up here? Minus 20 for lashing out in such a way at someone clearly not trying to cause trouble or an argument – whatever issues they have beneath the surface. Lydia gathers her mom and gets ready to go when Vicki runs after them to prevent them from leaving, at which point Ryan continues to lose his $h!t. Ryan and Vicki have it out, and the tension is clearly all about Brooks, who Vicki says she will start seeing again – even as Briana threatens to move out. Call it a Wash on that whole situation, where no one comes across well. Vicki busts out her new Bacon Vodka (in honor of her “Miss Piggy” nickname) … and then sticks it to Slade for his derogatory remarks about women. The gang backs Vicki on this one, and Plus 20 for that. Slade’s not all bad, as he’s shown recently, but there’s no excusing some of the things he says. Lydia lashes out again Slade and Gretchen, calling them both “dirty.” As we head into the reunion, we have a feeling this beef is far from over. Plus 15 . Heather sums it up best: “This year has been interesting. It’s been mercurial. From supporting Justin since 2008, I was finally able to meet him June 26th 2013. I had been at the arena since 10 a.m. and the doors didn’t open until 6 at night. I spent the day with friends walking around and just hanging out. At around 4, most of my friends had gone back to their hotel to freshen up, while myself and four of my other friends that were still at the arena decided to grab something to eat and charge our phones. While we were walking we noticed someone walking in front of us and he had a one of the ‘All Access’ passes on a lanyard around his neck, and was pretending to be on the phone. We ended up going the same direction as him and and stopped to talk to him. He asked if we were going to the show that night. We told him we were but that two of our friends didn’t have tickets. He said our best bet was to wait outside the loading dock where the buses came in and wait for Scooter. After we ate, we headed back to the arena and people had already started to line up to enter the venue. The line was pretty long and we decided to go over by the loading dock and try our luck. We waited for almost 3 hours and we were started to give up and lose hope of Scooter ever coming out. The security guy was really nice and told us that there was a car waiting for Scooter but he didn’t want to let him in even though he was supposed to because he had heard about our friends that didn’t have tickets and wanted to see if we could get tickets. There was about 15-20 people outside and everyone waiting didn’t have tickets and were out there for the same reason. Right as I was about to tell my friends that we should probably go in because we didn’t wan’t to miss the countdown, everyone started screaming. I quickly got up off the floor and ran to the gate to see what was going on. That’s when I saw Justin coming up the driveway on his segway followed by Scooter and 5 security guards! It all happened so fast but he came up to the side of the gate I was on and went across grabbing everyone’s hands. He started making his way back and taking people’s phones and taking selfies with the fans through the fence. When he came up to me, he grabbed my phone and our fingers awkwardly locked when I gave him my phone. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. I don’t even remember him saying anything except when he was leaving and he mouthed, “Thank you, I love you,” and waved to everyone. It was so surreal. After I finally got myself together, I walked into the arena with my friends who had tickets. The concert was absolutely amazing and by far the best day of my life. The thought of Justin coming out to say hi and meet the fans who didn’t have tickets honestly never even crossed my mind. Justin was the last person on this earth I would have had the chance to meet. I kept telling myself, “He’s too famous. It’s just never going to happen, I don’t have enough luck,” and after 5 years it finally happened. He is such a genuine and amazing person and even more flawless in person. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever actually think I could be here writing my very own MBE. All I can say is to never give up, no matter what. All the time and money you’ve spent on him and his career will all be worth it without a doubt. Those few minutes or even seconds will be the best moments of your life.
