Shareif Ziyadat/Getty Images Al Sharpton Teams Up With Parkland Survivor For NYC Rally There’s an anti-gun violence rally headed to Trump Tower in New York City. During this week’s National Action Network meeting, Reverend Al Sharpton announced that he, along with a number of high school students, are planning to march from Trump International Tower towards the front of POTUS’ NYC apartment building in early June—which is the kick-off of New York state’s Gun Violence Awareness Month. Sharpton announced these ambitious plans alongside Aalayah Eastmond, a 16-year-old Parkland survivor. “I actually lost my uncle to gun violence in Brooklyn,” the 16-year-old said, as reported by the  Associated Press . “So for it to happen to me, in my face, that just shows that change has to happen now.” In February, immediately following the tragic Parkland events, Eastmond appeared on  Megyn Kelly TODAY , where she detailed her experience during the massacre. She revealed that she protected herself against the shooter with the body of her deceased classmate. Sharpton spoke about Aalayah during the NAN meeting saying, “This young lady surviving in that school. Rather than her going away, saying, ‘I got away,’ she’s committed herself to fighting for gun reform and making value out of her life. If she, with all that trauma, can stand up and fight then you ought to stand up with her.” New York student organization Youth Over Guns is also going to participate in the demonstration, which is scheduled to take place on June 2.   Continue reading →

Vivica Fox Is Confronted By PETA During Her Book Launch At Barnes And Noble

Vivica Fox is currently doing press rounds for her book, ‘ Everyday I’m Hustling .’ While hosting a book signing at Barnes And Noble in NYC, the actress was caught by surprise and ambushed by PETA and vegan protesters. The protestors and activists call for Fox to “stop wearing fur” and to “stop being an animal abuser.” One of the protestors shouted, “Vivica Fox talks about respect, but she kills animals! She paid someone to kill an animal!” They also told the NAACP Image Award Winner to “stop trying to be relevant.” Yikes. RELATED:  Power Move: PETA Buys Stake In LVMH To Stop Cruel Treatment Of Animals During the entire ordeal, Fox kept a straight face and was calm. At one point in the video, you can hear someone from her team calling for security. This is one of PETA’s tactics to bring awareness to their mission and cause. They often bombard public figures to get their message across. In July of last year, PETA protestors took to a MET x Michael Kors event, where they bought tickets and then protested during the designers’ talk. He immediately left afterward. Keep It Simple: Marc Jacobs Proposed To His Boyfriend With A Flash Mob At Chipotle

Source: Michel Dufour / Getty Marc Jacobs , fashion designer extraordinaire, just proposed to his long-term boyfriend Charly ‘Char’ DeFrancesco –and he did so in a way most people probably wouldn’t expect. There’s a lot of different extravagant things people might think of when it comes to celebrity proposals, especially for someone so obsessed with aesthetics like a fashion designer. You’d probably expect an exotic or fancy location, an orchestra, or anything especially romantic and beautiful. Jacobs’ proposal was a lot less conventional–especially for someone of his stature–but that makes it all the more endearing. Jacobs took his then soon-to-be fiancee to Chipotle, where he had a pre-arranged flashmob surprise waiting for his unassuming partner. The flashmob danced along to Prince’s “Kiss,” right in the middle of the restaurant, which all led up to Marc kneeling down and asking DeFrancesco to marry him. Fortunately for Jacobs, his boyfriend said yes!! This cute moment was captured on video, which Jacobs happily posted on Instagram after the fact. A Chipotle proposal is something most regular folk would never consider for their big moment, so seeing such a big celebrity do something so small makes the couple all the more endearing. Congrats to Marc Jacobs and Charly DeFrancesco!

SMH: Teen Named Malcolm X. Files Case Against HS Banning His Namesake Off Senior Sweater

(Photo by Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Images) Teen Named After Malcolm X Hit High School With Human Rights Case Malcolm Xavier Combs, 17, was named after one of the most known and affective Civil Rights leaders in history and unfortunately, his namesake still shakes White people up. All Malcolm wanted to do was rock his first name and middle initial on his Senior sweater at Christ The King HS in Queens like the rest of his senior class and he was told no, flat-out. Malcolm told NY Daily News he was pulled out of one of his advanced placement classes in February by Assistant Principal Veronica Arbitello, who told him he would not be permitted to have his name printed on his school sweater and that he shouldn’t want to be associated with “a person like that”. Staying stern, they refunded Malcolm Xavier his money for the senior sweater and soon after, a rally ensued. “Why am I in 2018 fighting for my own name?” asked Combs, who wore a T-shirt with the photo of the icon during the rally back in February. “Why does everyone have their names and initials and nicknames on their sweater, but why can’t I have my name?” SMH. The Christ the King High School senior is now fighting back with a complaint filed to the city’s Commission on Human Rights. So far the school hasn’t responded to the claim.
