Smokey Robinson Defends J. Lo After Gentrified Motown Performance, Says Critics Are Setting Us Back ‘A Hundred Years’

View post:

Source: Kevin Winter / Getty We all watched J. Lo salsa across the stage for the Motown tribute at the Grammy this weekend and collectively thought it was trash, but there was one man who defended her participation in the honor from the jump. Smokey Robinson. #BlackTwitter erupted when it was first announced J. Lo would perform the tribute at the Grammys prompting Mr. Robinson to come to her aid. “I don’t think anyone who is intelligent is upset,”  Robinson told Variety.   “I think anyone who is upset is stupid.” Wow. Criticism only grew once J. Lo actually performed and included a salsa routine into her already gentrified performance. Well, Smokey wasn’t feeling the backlash and took to Instagram to defend her again. Well the problem is Smokey, sure everyone listened to Motown but the legacy of Motown gave a voice to the Black struggle. Among those struggles were the Black woman being oversexualized and marginalized. In today’s society, being a Black women isn’t enough unless we look like a light skin, long-haired woman, which is exactly what J. Lo represents. There were hundred of Black performers who could have stood in her place and J. Lo should have been aware enough to understand that when the offer was extended to her. What say you readers, you riding with Smokey on this one? RELATED STORIES: Black Twitter Put J. Lo’s Motown Tribute In The Trash Where It Belonged We Love J. O.J. Simpson to Khloe Kardashian: I’m Your Father!

O.J. Simpson may have never hunted down “the real killers,” but it seems he’s convinced that he’s found Khloe Kardashian’s real father . And all he had to do was look in a mirror. Yes, for years, rumors that O.J. is Khloe’s dad have persistently wended their way across the social media landscape. It sounds absurd, and there’s certainly nothing in the way of hard evidence, but there are enough questions surrounding the situation to make it seem plausible to some conspiracy theorists. Khloe has denied the rumors repeatedly, but fans remain deeply curious as to why she’s a full foot taller than either of her sisters. In all likelihood, it’s just a quirk of genetics, but the fact that Kris Jenner was close friends with O.J. around the time Khloe was conceived is enough to keep the rumor mill churning. Now, a new report from Star magazine has added fuel to the fire and convinced many that the truth is out about Khloe’s disputed paternity. The tabloid claims that Khloe recently took it upon herself to contact O.J. and grill the disgraced football star about his relationship with her mother. “Khloe had brushed this off for so long, but becoming a mom made her realize that it’s important to know the truth [about her lineage],” a source tells the tabloid.  “Apparently, it was a pretty tense and tearful confrontation, but Khloe is finally on the path to learning the truth.”  Star doesn’t explicitly claim that O.J. told Khloe he’s her dad, but — why else would the “confrontation” have been “tense and tearful”? For his part, Simpson has repeatedly denied the rumors. When a cheeky TMZ pap approached O.J. after Khloe delivered her baby  last year and asked if congratulations were in order, the Juice played it cool. “Well, for [Robert Kardashian], God bless his soul, yeah… I don’t think for me, I have nothing to do with it.” The last time this rumor made tabloid headlines, O.J.’s attorney issued a statement in an effort to set the record straight. “Mr. Simpson has said all along that he has absolutely nothing to do with paternity regarding any Kardashian kid (as has Kris Jenner), but he certainly wishes all of them well,” read the statement. And hey, if you can’t trust a lawyer for O.J. Simpson, who can you trust?! View Slideshow: O.J. Simpson Trial Stars: Where Are They Now?

Cardi B Pays Tribute To Mac Miller & Family After Beating Him For Best Rap Album!

Cardi B paid her respects to Mac Miller after beating him for Best Rap Album Sunday night at the Grammys.  Which is surprisingly the only category the late rapper has ever been nominated in.  Cardi won her first Grammy for Invasion of Privacy a nd even though Mac was not mentioned in her acceptance speech, she made sure to send him and his family some love later on backstage.  After Cardi beat out her male competition – Mac Miller, Travis Scott, Pusha T, and Nipsey Hustle – she filmed a video of her giving a shout out to Mac and his family, who was invited to the award show in hopes of a win.  “I read an article that Mac Miller’s family said that if he don’t win, they want me to win, so I’m sharing this Grammy with you, motherf-ker! Rest in Peace!” Cardi yelled in a video while celebrating the win.  Cardi B: Shout Out to Mac Miller! She also posted a screenshot of the article, published by Us Weekly,  captioning the photo “WE WON A F-KIN GRAMMY.” But, before these shout-outs were made, Ariana Grande tweeted and deleted some shade at Cardi when she saw her late ex-boyfriend’s Grammy loss live from her couch .  Tweeting “trash, f-ck, and literal bullsh-t.” She also posted a response to a fan that said “THEY INVITED HIS PARENTS OUT. NO.”  Following the online backlash, Ari replied saying “Nothing to do with her. good for her. i promise.” But after Cardi’s social media tribute, the 7 Rings singer chilled out and even commented six black heart emojis on her post.  At the end of the day, it was a big night for both artists who got to celebrate their first Grammy win. Especially for Cardi, who made history at the 61st annual Grammy awards as she walked out as the first female solo winner to take home the award for Best Rap Album.  Which was well deserved after seven past nominations.  The I Like It singer was living her best life even before her win as she strutted the red carpet in her vintage Mulger alongside yep, cheating husband Offset, who abrasively invaded her spotlight all night long.  The two were sharing all kinds of PDA throughout the night and he even joined her on stage while she accepted her award, hand-in-hand. It was a lot.  I think it is safe to say the couple is definitely back on .  And they even touched tongues on the red carpet just to prove it.  Cardi also performed her latest single “Money” where she wore a catsuit and showed off her flexibility skills while humping twerking on a piano.  Take our money, Cardi! You were #thriving at the 2019 Grammys.  View Slideshow: Offset Lavishes Cardi B with Ridiculously Expensive Christmas Gifts

Email Submit Civilian Name : Travis Scott Super Name : Astro Superpower : Flight Origin : Hiphop Conquered Territory : Travis Scott gave us insight on his plans to expand a few years ago when he rapped, “I be flying high, shawty, I be flying high.” So it was no surprise when the accolades started rolling in globally…   Back in the day when his Houston hometown got rid of his favorite amusement park, AstroWorld, the rapper turned to hiphop for fun and launched a music career that has literally taken him around the world to share stages with artists like Rihanna, Future, Drake, Maroon 5 and more. Fittingly, he named his 2018 album (which soured to no. 1 on Billboard charts) after the demise of the city’s staple attraction and it provided a deeper look into what inspired his most recent moves most, outside of the birth of he and Kylie Jenner’s baby girl , Stormi.   With a passion for arts and kids, Travis founded the AstroWorld Music Festival which takes place across the street from the old park and aims to “bring back the beloved spirit and nostalgia of AstroWorld,” making a childhood dream of his come true as he shares the magic with Houston residents and visitors. In addition, he recently donated $100,000 to an after-school creative arts and education non-profit organization in Texas called Workshop Houston. He also designed the senior shirts for his city’s Eisenhower High School (per the request of the kids) and made a deal with the NFL to donate $500,000 to the “social justice accelerator” Dream Corps upon accepting the league’s offer to perform at Super Bowl LIII Where to next? Willie Lynch Loser: NFL Star Jahleel Addae And His Caucasian Wife Toast To ‘More Lightskin Kids’

Source: Allen Berezovsky / Getty Yes, colorism is still a thing in 2019 and folks are actually out here plotting on how to make lighter babies. Los Angeles Charger Jahleel Addae his fiancée Lindsey Nelson are under fire for some ignorant comments they made that were captured on Lindsey’s Instagram story. The couple and their friends, a table full of Black men and their White girlfriends, made a toast to “more light skinned kids.” SMH. Jahleel must’ve known that the wrath of the Internet was underway because he made his Instagram page private after the video went viral. It behooves me that cotton mouth insecure/threatened caucasian women act as if they found the Holy Grail in their “black men”…that Black women would NEVER want to be with anyway…. #JahleelAddae #youcanhavehim — a.k.a. Everybody’s Racist? Nick Cannon Exposes Jimmy Fallon, Sarah Silverman And Jimmy Kimmel For Wearing Black Face

Source: Kevin Mazur / Getty Nick Cannon Exposes White “Allies” Jimmy Fallon And Jimmy Kimmel Over Past Black Face While you’re over there throwing out all your Gucci, Prada and Moncler products, Nick Cannon has given the community some decisions to make about your late night viewing choices. Nick took to Instagram to post a collage of some of your favorite white comedians — wearing blackface! Happy “BLACKFACE” History Month!!! I’m sure we can expect some more “Apologies” by Monday… Nick also posted footage from the times Kimmel and Fallon wore black face. Nick acknowledged in his comments that he wasn’t necessarily looking to cancel the comedians but wanted the public to have conversations and really see a full and honest picture. Are these your Kings of Late Night??? @JimmyFallon @JimmyKimmel you know I’m always on the side of the comedian and never pander to the sensitive, but I feel there needs to be some “truth & reconciliation” discussions and teachable moments amongst our communities. I’m ready and willing for the discourse, so who wants to step up to the table first? In the meantime, I’ll just leave this right here. Tell the Jimmys to holla at me! What do you think needs to be said and done by the Jimmy’s? If you look at the comments you will see lots of celebrities weighed in — including Russell Simmons who said “Jesus I mean Jesus this sh** hurts.” Does it hurt you to see comedians we thought of as allies joking in this manner? Cannon wasn’t done with his educational lesson however. Hit the flip for more.

Justice For Now: U.S. Supreme Court Blocks Louisiana Abortion Law

A law imposing restrictions on abortion clinics in Louisiana was set to go into effect this week, but thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court, the repressive legislation has been put on hold. In a 5-4 decision late Thursday, the justices declared that that they will not allow the state to put into effect a law that requires abortion providers to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals. Abortion rights supporters everywhere are celebrating the victory, but the law could still go into effect eventually once the court rules on its constitutionality. There are justices on the court, like Brett Kavanaugh who want the anti-abortion law to go into effect — which means there’s a long road ahead to prohibit the controversial 2014 law from permanently passing. SMH.
