Dascha Polanco: Orange is the New Black Actress Criticized For Exchanging Her Cats for Kittens

In case you don’t recognize the name (And why would you?) Dascha Polanco is the actress who plays Dayanara Diaz on Orange is the New Black. The role was obviously her big break, but if the details of a story that recently leaked online turn out to be true, Polanco could soon be better known for her questionable treatment of pets than for her acting. Dascha stands accused of dumping her two healthy, well-behaved cats off at a shelter so that she could adopt two kittens. To make matters worse, witnesses say Dascha’s cats were dropped off in a beaten-up cardboard box with air holes poked in the side.  The actress had reportedly not called in advance to see if the shelter was accepting new animals and when a clerk told her they were unable to accommodate her cats, Dascha lost it and screamed, “Don’t you know who I am?” The shelter eventually accepted the cats, and shortly thereafter, Dascha began posting photos of two very young kittens on her social media accounts. Polanco has reportedly been added to the national DNA (do not adopt) list that’s circulated among shelters to identify irresponsible pet owners. Celebrities mistreating pets is nothing new, but the callous, public nature of Polanco’s behavior makes it unique…as does the indignant response that she posted on Facebook: “I walk with my head high and I’m nauseated by the ppl that bully and choose to express such hurtful words. So much progress to be done. #IEatBullies” So it looks like in addition to the “Don’t you know who I am?” card, Dascha is a fan of playing the “BULLYING!” card whenever she’s the subject of criticism. John Legend Defends Kanye West: He’s Funny, Harmless!

John Legend is on Team Kanye West. With many coming down hard on Kanye for his behavior at the Grammy Awards – during which he pretended to crash Beck’s acceptance speech for Album of the Year, prior to saying the artist didn’t deserve it – Legend has come to his pal’s defense. “I thought it was funny,” Legend told Us Weekly of West’s brief appearance on stage. “I looked at it as just a funny thing that people were going to talk about.” They definitely are talking about it. Garbage lead singer Shirley Manson says Kanye needs to grow up and stop acting like a “twat” with all of his rants against singers he doesn’t adore. “It didn’t hurt anybody,” Legend added. “Anybody who’s upset just needs to relax. It was funny.” Legend is also quick to say that he respects Beck and doesn’t necessarily agree that Beck didn’t deserve his Grammy. “Beck won his award fair and square. Beck is super talented and I have several of his albums and I’ve listened to him for a long time. I think people were surprised that he won but that doesn’t mean he’s not deserving, that just means people thought other people were going to win too.” Beyonce, specifically. West reacted in shock and anger that Beyonce did not take home Album of the Year. For his part, Beck was okay wit Kanye’s actions. “I was just so excited he was coming up,” Beck said after the ceremony ended. “He deserves to be on stage as much as anybody… I still love him and think he’s genius. You may have thought the shots of Taylor Swift dancing at the Grammys that hit the web yesterday were as good as it would ever get in terms of Swifty GIFs. And you may be right. Clint Eastwood on American Sniper Critics: They’re Right!

Well, this is unexpected. In case you’re somehow unaware, the new Clint Eastwood-Bradley Cooper film American Sniper is a massive hit with audiences, but its also drawn a good deal of criticism, in part because large portions of Chris Kyle’s memoirs – on which the film was based – are believed to be fabricated. Michael Moore referred to snipers as cowards and is still subjected to daily Twitter hate as a result. Seth Rogen compared the film to Nazi propaganda and the actor received swift and immediate backlash. Eastwood has been largely silent on the subject, so it was somewhat surprising when he decided to offer his two cents to a TMZ cameraman last night. It’s really surprising when you hear what he had to say: Clint Eastwood Talks American Sniper Yes, Squinty Clint seems to agree with those who have claimed that the film is not without its problematic elements. It’s possible that Eastwood just misunderstood the question, but it’s equally possible that he meant what he said, and that his film is being used to support political ideologies with which he doesn’t agree. Anyone who’s seen at the RNC knows that Clint is a card-carrying Republican, but he’s generally moderate and often left-leaning in his politics. Eastwood has been openly critical of the wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and though he’s clearly a supporter of the troops, it’s not surprising that he might object to some warhawks finding a message in Sniper that’s not really there. Or, it could be that he acknowledges that Kyle made some questionable claims in his autobiography and you’re not necessarily disparaging an American hero if you point out that Kyle didn’t really snipe looters after Katrina or beat up Governor Jesse Ventura. Or maybe Clint’s just defending the right of his critics to openly express their thoughts on his film. After all, Clint is pretty much the quintessential American, and what’s more American than freedom of speech? Via speeches from President Barack Obama and activist Brooke Axtell (who introduced Katy Perry’s live performance) the Grammy Awards took on the issue of domestic violence last night. The event raised awareness for the It’s On Us campaign, an organization dedicated to the issue of sexual assault. It was a bold move and an admirable move… but it was also a hypocritical move, according to Alexander Gaskarth. “Wow. Unbelievable. Maybe #ItsOnUs to not invite people like @chrisbrown to the fcking Grammys. Am I wrong?,” the All Time Low singer Tweeted. “I’m all for atonement and forgiveness, but it seems a little crass to me…” Brown, of course, gave then-girlfriend Rihanna a black eye after a pre-Grammys party in 2009 – he was in attendance at last night’s ceremony. And many took note of the hypocrisy, saying Brown’s presence undercut the important message sent by Perry and company. Brown remained relatively calm in his response to Gaskarth, Tweeting back to the artist: “you sound really perfect brother… How can I get those VIP tickets to the pearly gates bro… Seems like you have it down.” To his credit, Gaskarth did not back down. “I’m not worried about the pearly gates RN, man,” he Tweeted. “Worried about here and now… And double standards. Bruce Jenner Accident: Was He Texting and Driving Before Fatal Crash?

Police probing yesterday’s fatal car addictent involving Bruce Jenner want to see his phone records and the phone itself, likely to see if he was texting and driving. Saturday on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, Bruce Jenner was involved in a car crash in which one person died and seven were injured. The 65-year-old Olympic champion himself was unharmed. Jenner already volunteered to go to a nearby hospital to have blood drawn for alcohol testing, and authorities determined that he was not speeding. Law enforcement sources also say Bruce tried to avoid the accident, as the tires on trailer (behind his SUV) produced significant skid marks. At the last minute, Bruce’s car swerved to the right, but was unable to avoid the Lexus, which it hit, and caused to swing left into oncoming traffic. A Hummer hit the Lexus, killing the Lexus driver. The actions of Prius driver, who was hit from behind by the Lexus in the chain reaction, have also been the subject of some debate by investigators. That driver told police she stopped at a red light, but was about 300 feet away from one, and has given what authorities describe as a “vague” account. All of this makes the notion of Bruce bearing responsibility for this tragedy seem unlikely, but understandably, the cops are turning over every stone. 17 Bruce Jenner Pics: Through the Years 1. Dean Smith Dies; Legendary College Basketball Coach Was 83

Dean Smith, the former University of North Carolina men’s basketball coach who retired in 1997 as the all-time leader in Division 1 victories, died Saturday night at his home. He was 83 years old. Smith coached the Tar Heels from 1961 to 1997, compiling a career record of 879-254 and winning NCAA championships in 1982 and 1993. The school also reached the Final Four 11 times under Smith. “We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers, and appreciate the continued respect for our privacy as arrangements are made available to the public. Thank you,” Smith’s family said in the statement. At the time of his passing, Smith was surrounded by his wife and five children. Over the course of his legendary reign, Smith coached such stars as Sam Perkins, Bob McAdoo, James Worthy and Michael Jordan. Due serious health issues, wife Linnea accepted the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Smith’s behalf from President Barack Obama in November 2013. “It’s such a great loss for North Carolina — our state, the University, of course the Tar Heel basketball program, but really the entire basketball world,” said current Tar Heels coach Roy Williams, who spent 10 years as an assistant under Smith. “We lost one of our greatest ambassadors for college basketball for the way in which a program should be run. We lost a man of the highest integrity who did so many things off the court to help make the world a better place to live in.” Last month, beloved SportsCenter anchor Stuart Scott died .
