Grammy winning singer Usher is refusing to fork $50,000 over to his wife so she can pay legal fees she’s accumulated by fighting the R&B star for custody of their two sons. Usher finds Tameka Foster’s request ridiculous and counters that his ex-wife constantly defies court orders and files pointless motions, including one where she wanted Usher to be forced to take a drug test. The “Climax” singer says he’s already given Tamkea Raymond $25,000 for lawyers fees and has paid most of her legal bills, despite him being the defendant. Usher also feels her actions “directly harm the best interests of the minor children. Clearly, such actions should not be tolerated, much less rewarded.” Source RELATED: Usher Releases “Climax” [MUSIC VIDEO] Usher Fires Back At Ex-Wife Tameka Foster! Blue Ivy Carter is now officially a member of “Brooklyn’s Finest.” Mama Beyonce took her bundle of joy out for a day of fun to the borough where Papa Jay-Z was born and raised. Mother and daughter were seen soaking up the spring-like weather at Prospect Park this past Friday. Dressed casually in a stylish black leather jacket and oversized hoop earrings, Bey could have easily passed for any other young mom in the BK. Good thing Beyonce is making the most of her downtime with Baby Blue–in a few months, she will start filming A Star is Born with director Clint Eastwood and she recently signed on to star in One Hit Wonders with her BFF, Gwyneth Paltrow. Evanescence and the Black Keys also grab #1 seeds in MMM 2012. Vote for your favorites now! By James Montgomery Photo: MTV News It’s back! MTV’s third annual Musical March Madness tips off today (March 12), pitting the 64 bands that matter most against each other in a bracket-battle to the death (OK, no one actually dies, but we’re rolling here). And like in previous years, your votes determine who advances on — and who will ultimately hoist the big gold trophy when the tournament ends April 3. Can Green Day repeat as MMM champs? Will perennial powerhouses My Chemical Romance, 30 Seconds to Mars and Paramore finally make it to the top of the mountain? Or will 2012 bring us another unheralded winner, a la Coheed and Cambria in 2010 ? All of these questions — and more — will be answered in the coming weeks, as the drama and majesty that is Musical March Madness plays out before our very eyes. But enough hyperbole — let’s get to the action! Voting in all first-round matchups is now live in our interactive bracket, and runs until midnight ET Sunday. You can help your favorite band advance by downloading one of our MMM badges below (they look smashing on any social profile), or by spreading the word via Twitter, using the hashtag #MMM . Who will reign supreme? Well, it’s up to you. But let’s take a look at the 64 bands that will compete for the 2012 MMM title! The #1 Seeds The Black Keys: Riding high thanks to back-to-back breakout albums and a sold-out U.S. arena tour, the Keys nab the top seed in the always-competitive Midwest region. Will playing close to their spiritual home of Akron, Ohio, be enough to guide the dynamic duo all the way to the Final Four? They’ll have their work cut out for them, but with their bruising inside-out game and rebound-grabbing prowess (Carney’s height advantage makes him a beast on the boards), they’re poised for a deep tournament run. The Foo Fighters: They grabbed a #1 last year, based on the power and prowl of their Wasting Light album, but were upset in the second round by Disturbed. Now they’re back, with an armload of Grammys and a desire for revenge. Can the Foos run the table in the very dangerous West region? We wouldn’t bet against them, especially given the veteran leadership of floor general Dave Grohl, the man who makes it all happen. He’s like Tyshawn Taylor, only with facial hair. Mumford & Sons: Newcomers to the MMM tourney, Mumford grab the #1 seed in the erudite East region, thanks to the continued success of their Sigh No More album (2011’s best-selling rock album, btw). Sure, they might not be battle-tested, but their combination of speed and strength — and bluegrass leanings — remind us a lot of the Kentucky Wildcats, which could mean they’re bound for greatness this year. As an added bonus, a MMM championship would make for the first time the name “Country Winston Marshall” has ever been engraved on a trophy of any sort. Evanescence: They roared back from a lengthy hiatus with a chart-topping album and a worldwide tour, both of which earn them the top spot in the South region. They’ve shaken off the rust and appear primed for MMM dominance — especially since their global fanbase will be able to vote. Amy Lee is always a threat from behind the arch, but the band’s true strength might lie in man-mountain Terry Balsamo, who can take anybody to the hole. The rare band to combine power and finesse, Evanescence might very well be the team to beat in 2012. Vote for your favorite band, discuss and share on Facebook and Twitter in the MTV Musical March Madness interactive bracket! Midwest The meaty Midwest gets a bracket brimming with meat-and-potatoes rock, topped by the aforementioned Black Keys and bolstered by the likes of #6 Kid Rock, #8 Nickelback, #11 Chevelle and #14 Five Finger Death Punch. The pride of Wisconsin, Bon Iver, is in as the #2, though he faces a tough opening-round opponent in 15th-seeded Sum 41, who shocked the world with their run to the Elite 8 last year. And speaking of previous tourneys, My Chemical Romance — the only band to make the Final Four twice — are in as the #5, and based on their past successes, they might be the team to beat. Also, the Metallica/Guns N’ Roses first-round tilt is sure to be one for the ages. Here’s a look at the opening matchups: (Click the artist name to download their official MMM badge.) (1) Black Keys vs. (16) AWOLNATION (2) Bon Iver vs. (15) Sum 41 (3) Pearl Jam vs. (14) Five Finger Death Punch (4) U2 vs. (13) Modest Mouse (5) My Chemical Romance vs. (12) Death Cab For Cutie (6) Kid Rock vs. (11) Chevelle (7) Metallica vs. (10) Guns N’ Roses (8) Nickelback vs. (9) Rise Against! West For the third year running, the West is most definitely the best — bracket, that is. The Foos sit atop a positively loaded field, with established acts like last year’s champs, Green Day, #2 Red Hot Chili Peppers, #3 Blink-182 and #4 Maroon 5, and a host of hotly tipped newcomers, including #6 Foster the People, #8 Best Coast and #13 Lana Del Rey. Plus Van Halen and No Doubt. We wouldn’t discount 15th-seeded Panic! at the Disco (Elite 8 the two previous years) or tourney-tested Adam Lambert, either. If you’re looking for a dark-horse pick, our money’s on Skrillex, who might not technically rock, but used to front From First to Last, and based on his thunderous live sets, definitely knows how to move folks. The first-round matchups are: (Click the artist name to download their official MMM badge.) (1) Foo Fighters vs. (16) James Durbin (2) Red Hot Chili Peppers vs. (15) Panic! at the Disco (3) Blink-182 vs. (14) Korn (4) Maroon 5 vs. (13) Lana Del Rey (5) Green Day vs. (12) the Decemberists (6) Foster the People vs. (11) Adam Lambert (7) Van Halen vs. (10) No Doubt (8) Best Coast vs. (9) Skrillex East Once again home to both beard-scratchers and fist-pumpers, the East is truly up for grabs. Like we said, Mumford are MMM virgins, and #2 Coldplay have made the tourney twice before, but never got past the second round. The same can be said for perennial MMM underachievers Arcade Fire, who nab a #5 seed, but seem destined for a first-round exit at the hands of tourney powerhouse Tokio Hotel. Also wading into the chaos are #3 Florence and the Machine, #4 Muse and #8 Radiohead, who will battle #9 Bruce Springsteen in the first round. This one might come down to an Elite 8 showdown between Tokio and 2010 champs Coheed and Cambria — then again, we wouldn’t discount the power of Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters, who might help carry Semi Precious Weapons to victory. This region is anyone’s guess, really. The opening matchups are: (Click the artist name to download their official MMM badge.) (1) Mumford & Sons vs. (16) F–ked Up (2) Coldplay vs. (15) Arctic Monkeys (3) Florence and the Machine vs. (14) Refused (4) Muse vs. (13) Gym Class Heroes (5) Arcade Fire vs. (12) Tokio Hotel (6) Fun. vs. (11) Semi Precious Weapons (7) The Shins vs. (10) Coheed and Cambria (8) Radiohead vs. (9) Bruce Springsteen South There’s plenty of home-grown talent on display in the always-treacherous South, topped by Evanescence, #2 Paramore (last year’s MMM runners up) and the third-seeded Kings of Leon. For the second time in three years, My Morning Jacket and the Dave Matthews Band will go head-to-head in the opening round, in what’s sure to be a Birkenstock-burner. Fourth-seeded Jack White draws a tough opponent in #13 Shinedown, and we genuinely have no idea who wins the 7-10 Cage the Elephant/Ke$ha tilt. Also showing up in the South are powerhouses 30 Seconds to Mars and Linkin Park, both of whom are looking to finally make good on previous tournament promises. Will 2012 be their year? Here’s a breakdown of round one: (Click the artist name to download their official MMM badge.) (1) Evanescence vs. (16) Alabama Shakes (2) Paramore vs. (15) Gotye (3) Kings of Leon vs. (14) Phoenix (4) Jack White vs. (13) Shinedown (5) Linkin Park vs. (12) At The Drive In (6) 30 Seconds To Mars vs. (11) Sleigh Bells (7) Cage The Elephant vs. (10) Ke$ha (8) My Morning Jacket vs. (9) Dave Matthews Band MTV’s 2012 Musical March Madness Tournament is underway! Voting in the first round runs until midnight ET on Sunday, March 18, and winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite act made the cut, it’ll be up to you to guide them to glory. You can rally the troops on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM or by downloading one of our custom badges — but get ready, it’s gonna be a war. Related Videos Get Ready For Musical March Madness! The party will benefit his Make It Right foundation, which aims to rebuild New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward. By Jocelyn Vena Brad Pitt Photo: WireImage Brad Pitt knows how to throw a party. The Oscar-nominated actor has enlisted the help of Rihanna, her pal Kanye West and many more dazzling stars to appear at a charity gala he’s holding in New Orleans to benefit his post-Katrina cause, the Make It Right foundation. Being held at the Hyatt Regency on Saturday (March 10), the night will be co-hosted by Ellen Degeneres and co-emceed by Drew Brees. Other guests and performers include Sheryl Crow, Snoop Dogg, Sean Penn, Kevin Spacey, Spike Lee, Blake Lively, Djimon Hounsou, Chris and Jada Paul, Bennett Miller and Randy Jackson , according to E! News . Rihanna is slated to take the stage during the gala. But the night doesn’t end at the gala. For the afterparty, “Parks and Recreation” funnyman Aziz Ansari will host, and Seal and Yeezy have been tapped to perform. Emeril Lagasse will cook up delights that pay homage to New Orleans’ colorful culinary tradition. The gala will help raise funds for lower-income housing in Lower 9th Ward, a neighborhood in New Orleans that was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. They aim to complete 150 houses. According to the website for Make It Right, the foundation “builds safe, sustainable and affordable homes for working families. We aim to be a catalyst for change in the building industry in New Orleans and beyond.” Pitt has already been spotted around New Orleans with his family. His kids were spotted in the French Quarter walking their bulldog, Jacques, and Brad had been spotted on his motorcycle. Related Artists Kanye West Rihanna
South by Southwest was created for ‘real movie fans,’ documentarian Morgan Spurlock tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Morgan Spurlock speaks at 2011 SXSW Photo: WireImage There’s something inherently cool about Austin’s annual South by Southwest film festival. For starters, it has a fun acronym and a decidedly casual vibe, but what sets SXSW apart from the other big film fests is that it caters to actual film fans. And there’s something for everyone, from a few mainstream studio-made crowd pleasers to the genre-tastic Midnighters series to eclectic documentaries and shorts. “What I love about the film festival is it’s real movie fans,” documentarian Morgan Spurlock, a frequent attendee of SXSW (and the man behind “Super Size Me”), recently told MTV News.”It’s not filled with people from Los Angeles, not people from business side of things, it’s real local people who love movies. You get a real gauge how an audience will respond to your film at SXSW, which I really like.” “Big Easy Express” director Emmett Malloy revealed that the festival’s unique and fan-friendly vibe is a big part of the reason they wanted to premiere the film in Austin, along with the fact that they are being treated as equals with all the other big films instead of being pushed to the side in a “Music Doc” category. “When we were looking at places to premiere, there were a lot of film festivals brought up, but SXSW felt perfect,” Malloy said. “If we went to another fest, Music Docs are treated more as a niche.” “Big Easy” features folk music-friendly bands Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show as they traveled from Oakland, California, to New Orleans on an eight-day railroad tour/ musical adventure in the summer of 2011. “At SXSW, it was a place where the layers of our film work perfectly for it and the bands were excited to come. It stacked the deck because we knew they would be excited to have us as well.” Spurlock will be on hand for the screening of his “The Greatest Movie Ever Sold” and as part of the panel “Changing the Channel: The New Golden Age of TV,” where he will discuss the upcoming second season of his Hulu series “A Day in the Life.” Spurlock explained SXSW is the perfect launching pad for his show’s second season, which features an actual day in the life of people like MMA fighter Jason “Mayhem” Miller, Joel McHale and Questlove, due to the fest’s marriage of interactive and entertainment elements, coupled with the fact that online commerce continues to be a hot topic of conversation these days. “SXSW is one of those places where great things come to fruition. It’s special,” Spurlock said. “The biggest thing: I want people to know the lay of the land. I want people to know what goes into production of the show, and I want people to know what opportunities exist in this online world, to know there are places to go to produce original content.” “I’m just excited for anyone to see the film right now,” Malloy said of what he’s looking forward to most while in Austin. “It’s about a fun trip, and I wanted people to experience it in a genuine fashion,” he continued, adding that the spirit of “Big Easy” is similar to that of SXSW itself. “It’s simple. Great music and great energy.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Related Photos 2011 SXSW Music Festival
Sanchez’s take on Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’ brings down the house as the guys tackle Stevie Wonder. By James Montgomery Jessica Sanchez on “American Idol” Photo: FOX “American Idol” swung for the fences on Wednesday night — and we’re not just talking about Steven Tyler’s decision to wear his Roy Lichtenstein pants. The girls tackled Whitney Houston songs (borderline blasphemy?) and the guys did Stevie Wonder, and, after two hours of performances that ran the gamut from “startlingly great” to “shockingly unhinged” — with the majority falling somewhere in the middling middle — well, perhaps it’s best if producers reined it in a tad. Still, there were some highlights (Jessica Sanchez!), and with eliminations coming Thursday night (March 8) — though, in classic late-era “Idol,” they’ve added some unnecessary wrinkles to the proceedings — here’s our grades for the Top 13. Who passed with flying colors? Who flunked out in flaming fashion? Read on to find out! Jessica Sanchez: Showed some major stones taking on the Whitney song to end all Whitney songs, “I Will Always Love You.” Was maybe a touch too melismatic, didn’t quite get there at the end, but still … dang, girl. Tears and standing ovations both richly deserved. Grade: A Hollie Cavanagh: Pint-sized powerhouse delivered the goods on “All the Man That I Need,” including hitting that big, big note at the end. Showcased range, control and power — all that’s missing is some personality. J.Lo sees her going all the way to the finals, and if Cavanagh keeps singing like this — and loses the nerves — she might be right. Grade: B+ Joshua Ledet: Ventured outside his comfort zone with a strutting, cutting take on Stevie’s “I Wish,” and took us all to church in the process. It was a bit screechy in parts, but he made up for it with amazing hand gestures and newfound confidence. Quoth Randy: “You wore it out!” We’d have to agree with that assessment. Grade: B+ Skylar Laine: The fact that she’d never sung Whitney is not nearly as shocking as her newfound dark-horse status. She took on “Where Do Broken Hearts Go,” and though it started out a bit nasally (and sleepy), she picked up speed and ended up more or less killing it. “Biggest moment of the night,” J.Lo said — of course, that was before Jessica Sanchez. Grade: B Heejun Han: He proved to be equally adept at both humorous tweets and gross misspellings of celebrity names (seriously dude, it’s “I-O-V-I-N-E”). His stripped-down take of “All in Love is Fair” was shaping up to be a slow-mo disaster, but he turned it around, and ended up putting his own silky smoove touch on the tune. We could do with less of his shtick, but the dude keeps delivering … and flirting with J.Lo. Grade: B Colton Dixon: Of course, was more than willing to take Jimmy and MJB’s advice to perform one of his own songs, and, of course, it was super wussy. He ended up doing “Lately,” which somehow managed to be both a tad flat and pitchy. Of course, only Randy seemed to notice. Girls seem to like his smoldering looks, which means he’ll stick around. Grade: B- Erika Van Pelt: Mary J called her tone “steak and potatoes,” though her take on “I Believe In You and Me” was more Lean Cuisine. Spotty at the beginning, she pressed on, and ended up with a fairly legit — if slightly bland — performance. It gave J.Lo goosies, which makes you wonder if they had the air conditioner cranked up too high. She earned a nickname from Seacrest (“EVP”), so she seems safe. Grade: B- Jeremy Rosado: Jer Bear put a sultry, supple spin on Stevie’s “Ribbon in the Sky,” and, in the process, made the most of his second chance. Sadly, Randy though it was lacking in “swag.” Can we retire that phrase yet? Middling reviews from the judges didn’t do him any favors. Grade: B- Phillip Phillips: His night-closing “Pimp Spot” turned out to be not so pimp, since he had to follow Jessica Sanchez. From the minute they announced the guys were doing Stevie, I knew he was doing “Superstition,” and lo and behold, he did just that. It was swampy, sorta scatty, and also sorta anti-climactic (and scary). Steven said he had a lot of “forget about it” in his voice … don’t worry, we already have. Grade: C Deandre Brackensick: Skanked his way through “Master Blaster” and showed off his ill falsetto. It was sort of forgettable, yet also kind of fresh at the same time. We’re glad Steven made the Naima comparison, since we didn’t think we were allowed to go there. Irie! Grade: C Jermaine Jones: The Gentle Giant’s baritone was on full display with “Knocks Me Off My Feet.” It started sort of bland, picked up steam toward the end, yet never truly seemed to connect. Quoth Steven: “That song fits you like an Armani suit” — that’d be a gigantic suit. Jones described his performance thusly: “I think I did a pretty good job.” OK, dude. Grade: C- Elise Testone: Ooof. Early attempts at “The Greatest Love of All” earned her the stank face from MJB, so (seemingly against her will) she ended up doing “I’m Your Baby Tonight.” The end result was a near catatonic, downright uncomfortable performance. Randy said she was “Boxing with the song,” and, well, she got knocked out. She seemed to come unglued during Seacrest’s post-performance interview, and for someone who claimed “there’s no excuse” for her spotty stint, she sure made a lot of excuses. Grade: D- Shannon Magrane: Seacrest introduced her as “The pride of Tampa,” though, after this debacle, he probably wants to reconsider that assessment. She did “I Have Nothing,” which was a pretty apt metaphor for her entire performance. Sure, she’s got a big voice, but she was swallowed up by the size and emotional wallop of the song itself — you know, because she’s 16 or whatever. She tried to power her way through, but ended up just sort of shouting. If Erika Van Pelt is “EVP,” she’s “NVG” — not very good. Grade: F Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Related Photos ‘American Idol’ Season 11 Top 13 Contestants

‘We just want to see him shine and keep the Houston movement going, man,’ Thug tells Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman Slim Thug, Marcus Manchild and Paul Wall Photo: MTV News Fire Starter: Marcus Manchild Houston, Texas’ Marcus Manchild is talented enough to make it in rap without any co-signs, but a little love from a couple of hometown heroes never hurt anyone. Marcus, who appeared in a Get in the Game segment on “RapFix Live” back in September, is getting ready to drop his Space Jams 2 mixtape. While Manchild is still a relative newcomer, he has been learning lessons from a couple of OG’s — Slim Thug and Paul Wall — for quite some time now. “I kinda like guide him, give him a little game, what to do, what not to do,” Thugga told Mixtape Daily of his relationship with Manchild. “It’s just like family, man, we just want to see him shine and keep the Houston movement going, man. That’s it.” As part of the AMG clique, Marcus has built quite the rep for himself, thanks to the rambunctious “Get Off Me” and his original Space Jams mixtape. MM’s latest single, “Problems,” features Bun B, so he clearly has no shortage of support. For Wall, it’s all about building positive relationships. He understands how quickly today’s up-and-coming rappers can become tomorrow’s superstars. “It’s good to build relationships, because when you come back to the city, you never know who you gonna holla at or who you gonna need or vice versa. You gonna be in a position to help them out,” he said. There are no ulterior motives, either: Neither Paul Wall nor Slim Thug have any formal business dealings with Marcus. They just truly appreciate his talent. “It’s a blessing. Just having them around, guiding me, what to expect and what not to do, how not to mess up in this game. It’s surreal,” Marcus said. “You can’t ask for nothing more than legends that’s in your city that really did something, that actually ventured off out of your city and made a name for themselves and actually are known worldwide and they’re here helping you out. It’s a great feeling.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Related Artists Slim Thug Paul Wall
