‘Footloose’ Star Kenny Wormald Reveals Secrets Behind Exclusive Trailer

‘I was blown away,’ actor tells MTV News of seeing footage for the first time. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Amy Wilkinson Julianne Hough and Kenny Wormald in “Footloose” Photo: Paramount Pictures “Footloose” star Kenny Wormald sidled up to his computer, hit play on the trailer for his remake of the classic 1984 flick and quickly realized he’d made a big blunder. “I watched it alone in my house, and that was a mistake, because I thought I was going to scream!” the dancer-turned-actor told MTV News. “I was blown away.” By now, though the 26-year-old has had time to settle down, he’s no less pumped about the film, which hits theaters on October 14 and which he calls “all new, but it also pays homage to the original.” To celebrate our debut of the trailer, Wormald gave us a call and revealed some secrets behind the new footage. Backflips and Angry Dances The most iconic scene in the original flick features a young Kevin Bacon going wild in a warehouse, dancing and flipping like he’s trying to win an Olympic gold medal in gymnastics. The new movie, as the trailer hints, re-creates that scene. Wormald himself busted out the great majority of those moves but had to make way for the experts from time to time. “We called it the angry dance,” he explained. “There’s some crazy stuff going on in that scene — some gymnastic stuff that is a little bit from the original and they wouldn’t let me do some of it. It’s just when it comes to the death-defying stunts — flips and stuff — that’s not me. They were like, ‘I don’t think so. Sit down, Kenny!’ ” Wormald again had to step away from the cameras when it came to a perilous backflip seen early in the trailer. “All of the dancing is me,” he said. “But that flip isn’t me — but don’t tell anyone!” The Exploding Bus Late in the trailer, we get a glimpse of Wormald racing a bus, followed quickly by a gnarly explosion. Turns out, that scene is an action-movie tweak to the original’s tractor chicken race. “They made it really climactic,” Wormald said of the original scene. “But if you think about it, tractors only go five miles per hour. So I think [director] Craig Brewer wanted a more badass version of the chicken race.” The Boston Accent Bacon’s character hails from Chicago — a northern boy who moves into a southern town and brings an urge to boogie with him. But from the minute Wormald opens his mouth in the new trailer, we can tell he’s not from Chicago. Instead, he speaks with a thick accent, one not originally part of the script but which the Boston-born actor introduced to the project. “They went into casting thinking it would be the same [as the original]. But when I went in there, I wanted to be different than the other guys. I knew it was a kid from up north going down south, so I made a decision to use my Boston accent in the audition,” Wormald told us. “As I kept getting closer and closer to booking it, they never said don’t use the accent. And then I booked it and they said, ‘We’re going to change it from Chicago to Boston.’ They dug it.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Harry Potter, Severus Snape Soar In Early World Cup Voting

Hermione Granger is also dominating in the first round of the MTV News tournament. By Eric Ditzian Alan Rickman as Professor Snape in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” Photo: Warner Bros. Don’t pooh-pooh Filius Flitwick! That’s just one of the lessons coming into focus little more than 24 hours into the epic showdown we call the “Harry Potter” World Cup . Though the diminutive master of Charms nabbed just a 10 seed in our monthlong tournament, in which fans have been voting online to choose the greatest character in the fantasy franchise, Professor Flitwick has raced out to a commanding first-round lead over his fellow Hogwarts colleague, and number-seven seed, Sybill Trelawney. But voting in the initial round doesn’t close until midnight on Monday, meaning there’s more than enough time for Trelawney fans to divine a whole lot of votes in her honor. Other contests seem less prone to an upset. Honestly, what are the chances Harry Potter himself , facing off against Dark Arts devotee Quirinus Quirrell, gets an unexpected first-round ouster from the World Cup? As of this writing, the boy wizard has wrangled more than 95 percent of the vote. His pal Hermione Granger, meanwhile , has garnered more than 98 percent of the vote in her battle with often-salacious journalist Rita Skeeter. See photos of all of the “Potter” World Cup players. But that was all to be expected. Early voting has also shown us some characters that could become Cinderella stories. Dobby the House Elf , the adorable rascal who made the ultimate sacrifice to save Harry and company, shot out to a maybe-we-should-call-it-now lead over Gryffindor half-blood Dean Thomas. Maybe now it’s time for Dobby, who’s always been the servant until now, to lead a fan-supported charge. Yet the floppy-eared elf could well run up against Severus Snape, who himself is dominating a first-round matchup with Death Eater spawn Vincent Crabbe, in the Sweet 16. Snape, as “Potter” buffs know, has one of the most complex and satisfying character arcs in the entire series. Only Dobby, we presume, stands between him and an Elite Eight showdown with Harry. That’s the main action in the Privet Drive quadrant of the bracket . Over in Godric’s Hollow, while Hermione is busy wiping the floor with Rita, the phoenix Fawkes is straight up embarrassing poor Nearly Headless Nick. But voting in Albus Dumbledore’s game hasn’t even started. If you ask us, anyone who thinks someone like Dark Arts defender Remus Lupin is going to stand in the way of a Hermione vs. Dumbledore Elite Eight face off is crazy. See the full bracket and vote! Things haven’t even gotten started on the other side of the bracket. There’s a whole lot of Weasley brawling going on in the Hogsmeade section, not only with Ron securing the top seed but with Arthur cruelly conjuring up a war with his son Percy. But all that may become background noise once Cedric Diggory (memorably, if briefly, portrayed onscreen by one Robert Pattinson) gets in on the action. Even Ron Weasley, he who won the heart of Hermione, might not be able to take down the “Twilight” heartthrob. Voting kicks off Wednesday. And then in Diagon Alley, we find perhaps the tournament’s most competitive corner. Count ’em off: Lord Voldemort, Draco Malfoy (whose Tom Felton has collected two straight MTV Movie Award Best Villain wins ), Sirius Black and his murderer, Bellatrix Lestrange. About the only thing we can predict at this point is that Lord V is going to freaking destroy Moaning Myrtle, who might need a new nickname soon. Voting in these matches begins on Thursday. Who is the best “Harry Potter” character of all time? The “Harry Potter” World Cup will find out! Voting is going on now over on the MTV Movies Blog , and you can also get the debate going on Twitter with the hashtag #mtvpottercup. Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake Hit ‘Bad Teacher’ Black Carpet

‘She just doesn’t belong in school,’ Diaz tells MTV News of her naughty character at comedy’s New York premiere. By Jocelyn Vena Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake at the “Bad Teacher” premiere Photo: James Devaney/ WireImage NEW YORK — “Bad Teacher” stars Justin Timberlake, Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel came out on Monday night for the premiere of their raunchy comedy. And Diaz, who plays couldn’t-care-less teacher Elizabeth Halsey, told us she why she loved the role. “It was a lot of fun. Elizabeth was such a well-written character,” she told MTV News on the Ziegfeld Theatre’s black carpet. “It was easy to play her; it was easy to say the words. She was so well-defined.” Cameron’s character is very naughty, and her co-stars Tom Lennon and Phyllis Smith (“The Office”) jokingly admitted that they might have paid more attention in school back in the day if a teacher had been as sexy as Diaz, a sentiment the A-list start completely understood. “I think that’s why people love Elizabeth,” Diaz said. “It’s because everyone wants to be her, even for an hour, maybe a day. If you get away with a week — oh my gosh! I got to play her for six weeks. So yeah, it was a lot of fun.” As it turns out, it isn’t just Elizabeth’s attitude that’s fierce, but also her killer sense of style. Diaz fully embraced the teacher’s fashion sense in the Jake Kasdan-directed flick. “The wardrobe is really good. Elizabeth is a working girl, if you know what I mean,” she laughed. “So she has to look a certain way: She’s always either coming in from the night before or coming out and she never wants to be mistaken as a teacher and she wears [Christian] Louboutins every day of her life and she just doesn’t belong in school.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Bad Teacher.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Ryan Dunn’s Passenger ID’d As Investigation Continues

Coroner is performing autopsy on the ‘Jackass’ star’s body. By Gil Kaufman Ryan Dunn Photo: Getty Images As police continue to investigate the fiery car crash that took the life of “Jackass” star Ryan Dunn on Monday, a West Goshen Police Department dispatcher confirmed to MTV News on Tuesday morning (June 21) that an autopsy is under way on the body of the 34-year-old TV personality and amateur stuntman. It was unknown at press time when the autopsy results would be revealed. The police source also confirmed the name of the passenger who was killed in the wreck, 30-year-old Zachary Hartwell of West Chester, Pennsylvania. Though Hartwell was not a member of the “Jackass” crew, he is listed as a production assistant on the second “Jackass” movie and was reportedly a recently married Iraq war veteran who had a small role in the Bam Margera-directed 2009 movie “Minghags.” Hartwell is credited on IMDb as a “car stunt driver” on the film. According to TMZ , the autopsy is intended to determine if alcohol, among other things, played a factor in the high-speed crash. The one-car accident took place around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, and according to police, Dunn’s 2007 Porsche 911 GTS flew through 40 yards of trees before it hit one and burst into flames. The initial police press release reported that the “preliminary investigation revealed that speed may have been a contributing factor to the accident.” TMZ posted a series of images of Dunn drinking at the West Chester bar Barnaby’s of America in the hours before the accident, but a spokesperson for the tavern told MTV News on Monday that Dunn did not appear drunk before he left the establishment. Film critic and frequent Twitter user Roger Ebert weighed in on the controversy surrounding Dunn’s death on Monday, writing , “Friends don’t let Jackasses drink and drive,” an assumption that angered Dunn’s friends and fans. Dunn’s close friend Margera — who like the rest of the “Jackass” crew was devastated by their friend’s death — was incensed by the tweet, responding , “I just lost my best friend, I have been crying hysterical for a full day and piece of sh– Roger Ebert has the gall to put in his 2 cents … about a Jackass drunk driving and his is one, f— you! Millions of people are crying right now, shut your fat f—ing mouth!” Related Videos Remembering Ryan Dunn Related Photos Ryan Dunn: A Career In Photos
