Star-studded film is packed with nods to the Beasties’ past and present. By James Montgomery John C. Reilly, Will Ferrell and Jack Black in the “Fight For Your Right Revisited” video Photo: Capitol Records By now, you’ve probably watched — and subsequently re-watched — the Beastie Boys’ new “Fight For Your Right Revisited” film, which premiered at midnight Thursday morning (April 21) on MTV2, mtvU, VH1 Classic and Palladia. In theory, it’s a tongue-in-cheek retrospective on the Beasties’ early License To Ill days, picking up where their sublimely stoopid “(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)” video left off, following Mike D, Ad-Rock and MCA — as played by Seth Rogen, Elijah Wood and Danny McBride, respectively — on a drunken spree that culminates in an epic dance battle against their future selves (John C. Reilly, Will Ferrell and Jack Black, just in case you’re keeping score at home). But really, it works just as well as a rather-involved exercise in cameo spotting, as seemingly everyone in the universe pops up for a frame or three. Thankfully, the Beasties were nice enough to include a list of co-stars in the closing credits. Our favorites include Susan Sarandon and Stanley Tucci as the bewildered parents who interrogate the Beasties post-party, Will Arnett as a businessman who gives a shout-out to “Arrested Development” (“COME ON!”) and Orlando Bloom’s inexplicable three-second cameo as a window washer in a Def Jam windbreaker. But there seems to be a batch of uncredited cameos too — we’re pretty sure we saw Danny Masterson and Zach Galifianakis in there. In fact, outside of some of Michael Jackson’s biggest videos (“Liberian Girl” and “Remember the Time” come to mind), “Fight For Your Right Revisited” might very well be the most celeb-heavy video of all time. But, as we said, “Fight For Your Right” is also so much more. And while you were busy trying to keep track of all the cameos, you probably failed to notice some of the film’s subtler moments — nods to the Beasties’ past and present, the majority of which pass by with blink-and-you’ll-miss-it speed. With Angles just released a month ago, band is already working on new material. Maybe that’s why they seemed to be sporting WTF grins when they hit the carpet for T-Mobile’s Sidekick 4G launch party in Beverly Hills on Wednesday night. Perhaps it was seeing the latest “Dancing With the Stars” cast members on the same carpet or attempting to talk over the thumping base from the DJ inside, but you got the impression that the indie band was a little bit outside of its element. But hey, T-Mobile has some rock cred on its side — after all, Blink-182 chose the last Sidekick launch event to play their first reunion show. And the Strokes had the same duties on Wednesday night — playing to Hollywood’s young and beautiful. So when it comes to scaling down their set at a party like this, the band has conflicting views on playing new material versus the familiar hits. “I guess me personally, I prefer playing new songs, but the crowd prefers old songs, reaction-wise,” singer Julian Casablancas told MTV News. “So it’s always weird ’cause you could play a song that’s mind-blowing and they’d just be like ‘wow,’ shedding a tear, but they’ll be silent. So you’ll think, ‘That sucks and we’ll never do that again.’ And then you play like an old hit that you played a thousand times, it’s kind of boring, but they’re loving it. So you’re like, ‘Let’s do that!’ ” Speaking of even newer songs, the Strokes, who recently played the South by Southwest festival in Texas, confirmed that they’re starting work next week on the follow up to Angles, which they released just a month ago. But Casablancas admits that they’ve gotten “zero far” on the new project. Whether it will share anything sonically with Angles, Casablancas said, “I don’t know, we haven’t even started. Now Gaga has once again been asked about the comparisons in a new interview with NME . And she didn’t seem pleased by the line of questioning. “That’s retarded. If you put the songs next to each other, side by side, the only similarities are the chord progression. It’s the same one that’s been in disco music for the last 50 years. Just because I’m the first f—ing artist in 25 years to think of putting it on Top 40 radio, it doesn’t mean I’m a plagiarist, it means I’m f—ing smart. Sorry.” The issue hit newsstands on Tuesday and by late Wednesday night the singer had issued an apology to her fans about her choice of words when defending herself and the chart-topping tune. “I consider it part of my life’s work and music to push the boundaries of love and acceptance. Actress is set to play mob wife Kim Gotti in the film. Originally up for the role of Victoria Gotti, Lohan is now set to play the wife of John Gotti Jr., Kim Gotti. “I’m really excited to be back on set and clear up all the misinterpretations about me and show this is what I love to do,” Lohan said about the casting, according to The Associated Press. “I think it’s such an iconic story. I think it’s a great story to be told. I’m honored to be working with John Travolta and Joe Pesci.” The movie’s producer, Marc Fiore, explained to People.com that it was Lohan herself who managed to make sure she got cast in the flick. “She was definitely out as of earlier today, but she really wanted the part,” he said. “She not only is back in the movie, but she single-handedly put it all together. She called me personally and put her team on it, and we came to an agreement.” Lohan, who was originally rumored to be a part of the movie earlier this month, said that she looks forward to playing the role because “you don’t get to see the heart behind the story and the real side of people. Naturally, we couldn’t let Facinelli hang up the phone until we addressed another important subject matter: “Breaking Dawn.” Unlike co-star Robert Pattinson , Facinelli has yet to wrap his work on the “Twilight” saga. “I still have another two weeks of second-unit stunt work, so for me, it doesn’t feel quite done yet,” he said. “I haven’t really had that moment of remorse or blues, you know, the blues of finishing. I’m in the midst of still finishing myself.” Regarding a few key scenes that his co-stars have mentioned — specifically the Taylor Lautner vs. Kristen Stewart fight scene — Facinelli agreed that seeing the much smaller Stewart take on Lautner was entertaining. “Oh yes, I was there for that,” he said. “[It was] very funny. … But you have to kick his butt a little bit,” Facinelli added about the idea of Lautner’s character Jacob imprinting on Bella and Edward’s daughter Renesmee . Although he couldn’t go into too much detail, we asked Facinelli to describe the heavily hyped wedding scene for us. “Beautiful and spectacular,” he said. “It’s funny, because whenever we have a big important scene on ‘Twilight’ [movies], it rains. I was doing the baseball sequence [from ‘Twilight’], and it was raining. But you never see it on film,” he said of the filmmaking crew’s movie magic. “With this wedding, it rained the whole time we shot the two scenes. But you’ll never see it on film, they block out the rain. They put tarps up and you’ll never see it. It just keeps getting worse for Gloria James, LeBron James’ mother. If that’s even possible. She has already been labeled as ignorant and a racist by media around the country, has been arrested for battery and public intoxication in Miami, and has had a civil lawsuit filed against her. You would think that it can’t really get any worse. But it can. It looks like ‘xenophobe’ is a label which can be added to the list against her. It’s already been reported that Gloria launched into a racial attack on a valet, Rockfeller Sorel , at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach recently, calling him a “f**king n***er,” before getting physical and slapping him in the face. But now, according to witness statements, it is alleged that she slung a xenophobic slur at him as well! TMZ is reporting that Gloria told him to “take a boat and go back to your country.” Apparently, Gloria’s friend tried to pull her away from the fight before it got physical, but Gloria (classy woman that she is) insisted, “I’m gonna be ghetto.” Of course she is!
