Lady Gaga Upsets Beatles Fans By Playing John Lennon’s Piano

Lennon’s son Sean posted a photo of Gaga playing the piano, later removing it after fans complained. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lady Gaga plays John Lennon’s white piano Photo: Sean Lennon/ Twitpic Lady Gaga has once again stirred up fans with another one of her unique performances. However, this time, it’s not her little monsters who are getting riled up but rather fans of John Lennon, who are upset that Gaga played the late Beatles legend’s white piano. The brouhaha began when Lennon’s son Sean posted a picture of Lady Gaga tinkling the ivories — in a skimpy bodysuit and fishnet stockings — on his Twitter page , accompanied by the caption, “With gaga at mom’s house, she’s belting on the white piano.” Sean later removed the picture after fans complained that Gaga shouldn’t have been allowed to jam on the instrument, which was a gift to Lennon’s wife and Sean’s mother, Yoko Ono. One tweeter in particular blasted Sean , writing, “WHY WOULD YOU LET LADY GAGA PLAY ON JOHN’S PIANO? I’m disappointed,” capping off the tweet with a frowning emoticon. The tweeter insisted Gaga was not up to snuff and later added, “Would you let just anyone play it? I mean geez, c’mon.” Although he removed the offending pic, Sean defended Gaga from the haters. “Pianos meant are to be played. Why is everyone so uptight? What should we do, lock it away in a dusty room? So judgmental,” Sean tweeted . The musician also replied to another fan, insisting that John wouldn’t be bothered by Gaga taking to the keys. “Firstly, he gave that piano to my mother for her birthday, it is hers, secondly, he was not uptight the way you seem to be,” Sean tweeted. Ultimately, the musician called for the offended fans to calm down and focus on other issues. “Come on, lighten up … life’s too short, there’re enough real problems in the world.” Are John Lennon’s fans being “uptight,” or is the piano too sacred to be played by current pop stars? Lady Gaga’s Monsters Beat The Heat For ‘Dream Come True’ MSG Show

‘Everything was about New York today,’ one fan notes after Gaga’s headlining debut at Madison Square Garden. By MTV News Staff Lady Gaga performs at Madison Square Garden in NYC on June 6 Photo: Derek Storm/ Splash News When Lady Gaga took to the stage at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night, the singer said she was thankful for the chance to headline for the first time at the storied midtown venue. Her little monsters were equally thankful for the chance to see Gaga make the momentous career step in her hometown. “It’s 110 degrees in New York City right now, and I’m from Montana — it is savagely hot here and I’m dying in the heat, but it was definitely worth it,” Beau told MTV News as she left MSG. “She started crying in the beginning, and she was like, ‘This is my teenage dream come true, and it was just really sweet.’ ” Ben added that while it was sweltering outside, “Lady Gaga’s concert was definitely hotter than it is out here!” New York native Alex loved the show’s theme. “Everything was about New York today. Shocking moment of the night was when she [lay down] up on the piano and started playing the piano with her boot.” Frankie said he was spellbound by some of Gaga’s infamous theatrics. “It was a nice moment to see she got very emotional,” he said. “It was almost like she climbed up on the piano and on the screen they focused on her shoe, and then she started slamming her shoe on her piano, and it looked like she was going crazy on the piano for theatrics, and then she actually started playing. It was really, really cool!” Other little monsters left the show taking Gaga’s message to heart: If you dream big, sometimes your dreams do come true. “She mentioned that when she was our age, she was back in the last row, which is where we were trying to get past security and get closer to the front, and we did it,” Maggie admitted. “We dodged security, and basically, she gave us the inspiration that one day we can be up there, or our dreams can come true also. So, it was really inspirational.” Have you been to a Lady Gaga show? Share your favorite moments in the comments. Lady Gaga Debuts New Song ‘You And I’ At Elton John Benefit

Video of Gaga performing new ‘rock-and-roll tune’ hits the Net. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga and Elton John (file) Photo: Kevin Kane/ WireImage We already know that Lady Gaga is pretty much finished with the follow-up to her smash full-length debut, The Fame. But now we finally have a peek at some of the material that might be on the album, thanks to footage of Gaga performing at Elton John ‘s White Tie and Tiara Ball last Thursday. “This is a brand-new record that no one’s ever heard before … ever,” she said while seated at one of her signature deconstructed pianos and wearing a bedazzled black bra and panties with black boots. “And I’ve never, ever played it live, ever.” On her Twitter , she described “You and I” as a “new song … written in NY on the piano I grew up on.” Sounding a tad hoarse, Gaga described the song to her audience as a bit of a “rock-and-roll tune,” predicting that for that reason it will not likely get used as a single, but that it is “very dear” to her heart. “It’s been a long time since I came around/ It’s been a long time, but I’m back in town/ And this time, I’m not leaving without you,” she sang, describing a whiskey-breathed lover for whom she’s pining. “He said, ‘Sit back down where you belong, in the corner of my bar with your high heels on,’ ” she continued, her voice rising and getting a bit more growly just before the band came in and provided a swaying backdrop to the bluesy rocker. ” ‘Sit back down on the couch where we made out the first time, and you said to me/ “Something, something about this place/ Something about lonely lights and my lipstick on your face.” ‘ ” She wasn’t kidding about the song having a rock edge, as the tune eschewed most of her dance flavor, right down to a rollicking barrelhouse piano solo, during which she stood up on the piano bench and bashed out some John-worthy runs on the black and whites. She finished the tune crouched on the bench, wailing, “You and I,” while pumping her fist, before giving it a big finish that included kicking a heel up on the keyboard and lying across the piano bench with her head on the ground. Gaga tweeted about her performance at the 12th annual fundraiser for the Elton John AIDS Foundation, writing, “What a brilliant evening with wonderful friends. Thank you to everyone who donated to the Elton John AIDS Foundation. What a magical stage.” Gaga also took the stage in a wheelchair with her chest covered in fake blood and accompanied by an oiled-up male dancer for a run through “Alejandro,” and she performed her ballad “Speechless.” During the latter, John came out and joined her for a dueling-pianos showdown, trading off verses on the tune dedicated to Gaga’s dad and then reprising their Grammys duet with a snippet of his hit “Your Song,” during which he improvised the line, “I hope you don’t mind that I wrote down in words/ How wonderful life is with Gaga in the world.” The gothic-themed event took place at a Windsor mansion owned by John and partner David Furnish and featured performance artists wearing straight jackets and dangling from fake trees and bandaged men in white coats serving cocktails in medicine bottles. According to reports, guests included Elizabeth Hurley, Kate Beckinsale, Sharon and Kelly Osbourne, Jon Bon Jovi and Kid Rock. What do you think of Gaga’s new song? Let us know in comments below. B.o.B’s ‘Nothin’ On You’ Came Together ‘Magically,’ Smeezingtons Say

‘We’re melody guys, we sing,’ Phillip Lawrence says of production trio, which includes Bruno Mars. By Jayson Rodriguez Photo: MTV News The making of B.o.B’s breakout hit “Nothin’ on You” was a group effort, according to the song’s producers. Bruno Mars , who is featured on the track, said he and his production partners, Phillip Lawrence and Ari Levine — together they comprise the Smeezingtons — collectively pieced together the music that would eventually top the Billboard Hot 100 chart. “Me and Phil always had that hook,” Mars told MTV News, spontaneously breaking out into the chorus that is helping to make him one of music’s buzzed-about names. “It was a different melody at first, though,” Lawrence added. “So one day our other partner — the Silent Bob of the Smeezingtons — Ari, he walked into the studio and said he programmed the drums [over],” Mars explained. “It had this old-school hip-hop beat. I said, ‘Gimme the piano,’ and that was the first thing I started playing. Magically, that melody worked with this track we were doing.” The result, of course, was “Nothin’ on You,” which landed atop the charts this year and has become an early contender for song of the summer. Now, the production trio’s services are increasingly in demand. Among the artists they’re hoping to get in the studio with is Keri Hilson, who’ll be prepping her next album. Apart from B.o.B, the Smeezingtons also recently worked with Gnarls Barkley’s Cee-Lo on Mars’ debut EP, It’s Better If You Don’t Understand, and are hoping to get back in the lab with him. (“He’s incredible,” Mars said of Cee-Lo.) And their remix of K’Naan’s “Wavin’ Flag” has been selected as the Coca-Cola anthem for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The Smeezingtons intend to apply the same principles that have brought them success so far to future projects, including Bruno Mars’ forthcoming full-length debut. “We’re melody guys, we sing,” Lawrence explained of their sound. “That’s kind of our main focus, to have really good, memorable melodies. We’ll go into the studio, and [Mars will] start playing the piano and I’ll start freestyling or vice versa. We’re heavily influenced by the ’80s [sound].” Are you looking forward to new material from the Smeezingtons? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists B.o.B

Lady Gaga Says She’d ‘Rather Die Onstage’ Than On Vacation

‘I’ll sleep when I’m dead, OK?’ Gaga tells audience in Sweden. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga (file) Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ FilmMagic With her Monster Ball Tour now continuing well into 2011 , Lady Gaga is certainly showing no signs of stopping anytime soon. In addition to playing on the road touring, Gaga has also been recording her next album and filming the music video for her song “Alejandro.” So, when she hit the stage in Sweden over the weekend, the pop singer addressed the rumors that she’s wearing herself a bit too thin these days. While singing her song “Speechless,” Gaga was anything but speechless when it came to the rumors that she’s overworked, admitting that she does work long and hard but that it’s all worth it to her. “You know when people say, ‘Lady Gaga’s really tired; she needs to take a break,’ I just think about all those times I sang in bars when nobody was singing my lyrics,” she can be seen telling her “little monsters” in a video posted online . “I’ll sleep when I’m dead, OK?” Standing on her piano bench hunched over her piano while singing the song, she later screamed out: “I’m never giving on up!” Singing the last few lines of the song, she once again addressed the crowd, noting that it’s not hard work that she fears will spell her end. “I know that I work really hard and run myself into the ground, and I also know that alcohol will kill me one day, but I would rather not die on vacation. I’d rather die onstage with all my fans,” she said, then belted the last few words of the song with fire coming out of her piano before lying down on her the bench dramatically. Recently, both Ryan Tedder and Janet Jackson have noted that while Gaga has certainly made a name for herself as an incredible performer and pop artist, they also have said that she might need to slow down a little bit before she burns herself out. Do you think Lady Gaga is working too hard, or is she just doing what she loves? Talk about it in the comments. Miley Cyrus And Liam Hemsworth Get Romantic In ‘When I Look At You’ Video

Track is from the real-life couple’s upcoming movie, ‘The Last Song.’ By Jocelyn Vena Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth in her “When I Look At You” video Photo: Hollywood Records Miley Cyrus is a girl with a piano, a song and a hunky co-star in her new music video for “When I Look at You.” The track is Cyrus’ single from her film, “The Last Song,” set for release in March. And director Adam Shankman, who produced the flick, managed to capture the feeling of the film’s romance in the clip. The ballad’s video opens with a shot of a piano on a pier and from there we see a close-up of Cyrus, Hemsworth’s feet and then back to the piano. Soon Cyrus is playing the piano and continues to do so for most of the video. In fact, when she isn’t sharing longing looks or locking lips with Hemsworth, she’s at the piano, playing it in the woods, at the beach and in her front yard. There are shots of Cyrus singing about her dream boy in the woods and in fields of wheat. Her scenes with Hemsworth are incredibly relaxed and natural, no doubt due to the fact that the pair are a real-life couple. Although the video’s only overt reference to “The Last Song” is the romance between Cyrus and Hemsworth, it’s pretty clear by the locale and the aforementioned storyline that this is meant to get Cyrus’ fans excited for the film’s release. Cyrus is definitely growing up, something she’s wanted to prove to the world for a while now. And although there’s nothing particularly jarring in the clip, the vibe shows that Cyrus is most certainly ready to leave “Hannah Montana” behind. Lady Gaga Pays Tribute To Alexander McQueen At Brit Awards

She performs ‘Dance in the Dark’ and ‘Telephone’ as a tribute to late friend and fashion icon. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga performs at the 2010 Brit Awards Photo: Jon Furniss/ Getty Images Lady Gaga might have won all three Brit Awards she was nominated for Tuesday (February 16), but it was her avant-garde tribute and performance to late friend and British fashion icon Alexander McQueen that stole the show. The star took to the stage in all white and sat at her piano before kicking off her performance with an acoustic version of her song “Telephone.” “This is for Alexander McQueen,” she told the crowd. The stage was decked out in white, and perched on a pedestal was a statue of what seemed to be Gaga wearing a piano skirt and the now-famous McQueen lobster-claw heels she wore in her “Bad Romance” video . Gaga Steals the Show at the Brit Awards She then got up from her piano as the disco groove of “Dance in the Dark” boomed throughout the room. In her lace bodysuit and over-the-top bouffant wig, she took to a giant keytar and dazzled the crowd with a techno rendition of the track. She then listed off names of fallen icons like Sylvia Plath and Judy Garland. The pop star arrived to the show dressed in a white dress and the same wig she wore onstage later that night. According to reports, Gaga retooled her whole performance to pay tribute to McQueen at the show. She later tweeted , “Tonight’s performance is inspired by our friend. Mask by Phillip Treacy, Sculpture by Nick Knight, Music by Lady Gaga. We miss you.” Last week, when news broke that McQueen had committed suicide, she tweeted a photo of the two of them as a tribute to her late friend.
