The verdict is in for Better Call Saul, and the people have determined that the highly-anticipated Breaking Bad prequel is every bit as addictive as its predecessor. Saul posted some of AMC’s best numbers ever for a series premiere last night, and the series set a new record for ratings in the all important 18-49 year old demographic. The series suffered a 57% drop from its lead-in The Walking Dead, because people really love their zombies, but even so, Better Call Saul Season 1 Episode 1 was a resounding success with critics and audiences alike. Saul pulled in 6.9 million viewers with an astonishing 4.4 million of the 18-49 demo. To put that in perspective, the series premiere of Breaking Bad received about 1.4 million viewers. Of course, 2008 was a very different time, and Saul certainly owes part of its success to the enduring popularity of BB. Astonishingly, some critics have already declared that Saul is better than Breaking Bad , and while it may be a little early for such jaw-dropping assessments (Did they already forget how amazing BB was?), with ratings like last night’s, Saul should have plenty of future seasons with which to make its case. Saul has already been renewed for a second season and its second episode debuts tonight at 10 pm on AMC. Via speeches from President Barack Obama and activist Brooke Axtell (who introduced Katy Perry’s live performance) the Grammy Awards took on the issue of domestic violence last night. The event raised awareness for the It’s On Us campaign, an organization dedicated to the issue of sexual assault. It was a bold move and an admirable move… but it was also a hypocritical move, according to Alexander Gaskarth. “Wow. Unbelievable. Maybe #ItsOnUs to not invite people like @chrisbrown to the fcking Grammys. Am I wrong?,” the All Time Low singer Tweeted. “I’m all for atonement and forgiveness, but it seems a little crass to me…” Brown, of course, gave then-girlfriend Rihanna a black eye after a pre-Grammys party in 2009 – he was in attendance at last night’s ceremony. And many took note of the hypocrisy, saying Brown’s presence undercut the important message sent by Perry and company. Brown remained relatively calm in his response to Gaskarth, Tweeting back to the artist: “you sound really perfect brother… How can I get those VIP tickets to the pearly gates bro… Seems like you have it down.” To his credit, Gaskarth did not back down. “I’m not worried about the pearly gates RN, man,” he Tweeted. “Worried about here and now… And double standards. The Bobbi Kristina Brown case has resulted in a criminal investigation, with authorities focused on foul play and specifically, the role of her “husband” Nick Gordon. One week ago, Brown was discovered face down in the bathtub by Gordon and friend Max Lomas. She has been in a medically induced coma since. Her family then reportedly had Nick Gordon banned from seeing her at the hospital, which was followed by an interesting revelation from Bobby Brown. According to her famous father, Bobbi Kristina Brown is not married to Nick and never was, despite her claims to have wed her “husband” in 2014. Husband or not, according to TMZ, and citing law enforcement sources, Bobbi Kristina was found with certain injuries that have piqued their interest. The nature and extent of those injuries is not known, but the history of violence between Bobbi Kristina and Nick Gordon is also a topic of concern. Police are looking into the possibility that there may have been an altercation more than an hour before Bobbi was found in the tub at her Georgia home. Contrary to previous reports, it was friend Max Lomas (also an alleged drug dealer), who found Bobbi Kristina submerged, not her husband/boyfriend. He is believed to have arrived at their residence around 9 a.m. last Saturday. He says he hung out with Nick Gordon but did not see Bobbi Kristina. When he shared the story during his January 30 broadcast, however, several soldiers who were on the scene that day cried foul, forcing Williams to apologize and admit that he had “misremembered” the events in question. Brian Williams Apologizes Now, more stories of Williams heroism in the line of duty are being questioned, and the future of the revered journalists’ career is suddenly in doubt. Critics of Williams are now questioning his claims that he contracted dysentery and watched dead bodies float past his hotel while covering Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The New York Post claims Williams stayed in an area of the city that was not affected by flooding and that doctors tell them not a single case of dysentery was reported during Katrina. The Post also claims that former Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw is calling for Williams’ head, reportedly telling sources that he is “extremely uncomfortable” with Williams lies and that “a lesser producer or journalist would have been immediately fired for a false report.” This is not the first scandal that’s threatened the integrity of NBC News in recent months. Red carpet reporter Giuliana Rancic wants newly-hired colleague Maria Menounos out of the picture over on E! News, according to new reports. Why does she allegedly care? And will she be successful? Rancic, 40, and Menounos, 36, have both interviewed so many famous faces over the years that they have become stars themselves in their own right. Perhaps for this reason, there’s a bit of a turf war in effect. According to an industry insider close to the celebrity gossip and news network, “Giuliana feels like Maria is stealing her show and she is terrified.” As a result, “She wants Maria out,” a source told In Touch . “Giuliana feels threatened by Maria” because of her contract, which “includes Live From E!, as well as stake in the company and her own show.” It didn’t help matters when a scheduling snafu on Rancic’s part left the door open for Maria to step in and host E!’s SAG Awards red carpet coverage. Menounos’ efforts were not that well received, either. “Maria royally messed up at the SAG’s when she was taking over for Giuliana and she got heat for it,” the source says of her lackluster performance. “Maria chalked it up to the fact that she was so nervous and the network sided with her, which pissed off Giuliana even more,” the insider continues. It’s impossible to make sense of why a beautiful, beloved, well-off 21-year-old with a blossoming music career would set off on the same self-destructive path that claimed her mother’s life, but one insider says those who know Bobbi best had long feared for her health and well-being. “Her self-destruction went from zero to one hundred the day her mother died,” says the source. The unidentified insider adds that the death of Whitney Houston was the beginning of the end for Bobbi, as they’d shared an unusually close bond since she was a child: “Whitney shared too much information about the marriage with Bobbi. It made Bobbi gravitate more toward Whitney’s feelings and that’s why she grew to resent Bobby.” The source says Bobby and Whitney’s troubled marriage profoundly influenced the relationship between Bobbi Kristina and Nick Gordon : “In Bobbi’s mind, [she and Gordon] were Bonnie and Clyde against the world, high and happy, eerily similar to the relationship Whitney had with Bobbi.
