Chicago West: First Adorable Photos!

Nick Foles may have outshined Tom Brady while winning MVP honors in Super Bowl 52… … but the Eagles quarterback was unable to steal the headlines on Sunday from two people who didn’t play a single down in the big game. Wouldn’t you know that Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian would find a way to dominate the headlines?!? Jenner, of course, did so by giving birth to her first child. Following months of secrecy, the 20-year old welcomed a baby girl over the weekend , releasing a statement shortly afterward that explained why she had remained out of the spotlight during her pregnancy. “I knew for myself I needed to prepare for this role of a lifetime in the most positive, stress free, and healthy way I knew how,” Kylie said via statement, adding on Sunday: “I appreciate my friends and especially my family for helping me make this special moment as private as we could… “I’ve never felt love and happiness like this; I could burst!” To make up for how little she shared with the public during her journey to motherhood, Kylie posted a lengthy video online that depicted her baby bump in various stages, along with something else… Kylie Jenner Video Shows Baby Girl, Chicago West, and More! … glimpses of Chicago West! That’s right, fans were unexpectedly treated to a few looks at Kim and Kanye West’s third child via the footage above, as Kylie’s family members visited her in the hospital prior to her own baby’s arrival. For example, Rob stopped by with daughter Dream, who adorably touched the head of her cousin at one point. You can see what we mean here: Kim – who has not yet shared any pictures of her daughter on social media or sold any to supermarket tabloids (yet) – also allowed little Chicago to be filmed for this special video. The child was born via surrogate last month because Kardashian has a health complication that would have made another pregnancy very dangerous. Kim and Kanye were right in the delivery room when Chicago entered the world at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Check out this cute snapshot of mother and new child: “She’s here!” Kardashian declared in extra-large type on her Twitter account shortly after the blessed event took place, adding at the time: “We’re so in love… “We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care.” At another point in her video to fans, Jenner is seen cradling her niece in her arms, preparing for the many days and nights in which she’ll be doing the same with her own little girl. (Kylie is yet to announce her daughter’s name.) It certainly looks like Chicago West is very well loved, doesn’t it? She’ll soon have even more company, too, as Khloe Kardashian is pregnant and expecting her first child at some point in the next month or so. How crazy is all of this?!? Just when you think the Kardashians-Jenners are out of ways to make news, just when you think that the Eagles finally winning a Super Bowl would be all anyone wants to talk about… … bam! Kim, Kylie and, in due time, Khloe make it as clear as ever: This is their universe. We should just be grateful that they allow us to reside in it. (Also: Congrats to Kylie and Kim! We’re so very happy for them!) View Slideshow: The Kardashians Confess: 15 Things You Didn’t Know About Us

‘They’ Schools: Study Shows American Kids (And Teachers) Are Dismally Uneducated About Slavery

Kean Collection/Getty Images High School Students And Educators Woefully Uninformed About Slavery This should come as no surprise as many times as we’ve posted about some of the stupid lessons on slavery kids are receiving in the US, but a new report released by the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Teaching Tolerance project reveals the widespread failure to accurately teach the history of American slavery and enslaved people. According to Atlantic reports Teaching Tolerance conducted online surveys of 1,000 American high-school seniors and more than 1,700 social-studies teachers across the country. The group also reviewed 10 commonly used U.S.-history textbooks, and examined 15 sets of state standards to assess what students know, what educators teach, what publishers include, and what standards require vis-à-vis slavery. What they found was that only 8 percent of 12th-graders could identify slavery as the cause of the Civil War. Fewer than one-third (32 percent) correctly named the 13th Amendment as the formal end of U.S. slavery, with a slightly higher share (35 percent) choosing the Emancipation Proclamation. And fewer than half (46 percent) identified the “Middle Passage” as the transport of enslaved Africans across the Atlantic Ocean to North America. Fewer than one-quarter (22 percent) of participating high-school seniors knew that “protections for slavery were embedded in [America’s] founding documents”—that rather than a “peculiar institution” of the South, slavery was a Constitutionally enshrined right. And fewer than four in 10 students surveyed (39 percent) understood how slavery “shaped the fundamental beliefs of Americans about race and whiteness.” The teachers didn’t do much better than the students. While teachers overwhelmingly (92 percent) claim they are “comfortable discussing slavery” in their classroom, only slightly more than half (52 percent) teach their students about slavery’s legal roots in the nation’s founding documents, while just 53 percent emphasize the extent of slavery outside of the antebellum South. And 54 percent teach the continuing legacy of slavery in today’s society. Additionally, dozens of teachers rely on “simulations”—role-playing and games—to teach slavery, a method that Teaching Tolerance has warned against on the grounds that it can lead to stereotypes and oversimplification. Meanwhile, a large majority—73 percent—use “slaves” when talking about slavery in the classroom instead of “enslaved persons” (49 percent), the latter term of which has gained favor for emphasizing the humanity of those forced into bondage. That’s a strong point about slaves vs. enslaved persons. Did you ever consider the impact of the wording? Also those games and simulations are how so many teachers are getting in trouble. Teachers — stop playing GAMES. Just keep it 100 with the kids and make sure they know HUMANS were treated INHUMANELY! LaGarrett King, an assistant professor of social-studies education at the University of Missouri, served on the Teaching Tolerance advisory board that developed a framework for teaching American slavery—basically, the concepts that every graduating high-school senior should know—as part of the report’s recommendations. As a teacher educator, he said the study fills a significant void. Students training to be teachers, especially those being educated to teach in elementary schools, know little about the history of slavery, he stated, noting that “much curriculum and teaching around racially and ethnically diverse [people] features a fun—foods and festival—approach to learning.” By contrast, King said, the framework provides a guide to delve into topics such as slavery and black history with a thorough and academically sound approach, versus teaching slavery in reductive and superficial ways. “Can you teach slavery without it being psychologically violent to the children? The answer is no, violence will occur and is expected,” he said. “The key is the recognition of white supremacy and [of] the humanity of black people that helps aid in the complexity of the subject.” What steps do you think need to be taken to make sure that the harsh realities of slavery and the impact of the institution on America overall are taught? Safety Is Sexy: Pyeongchang Sets A Record for Most Condoms Distributed At Winter Olympics

FABRICE COFFRINI/AFP/Getty Images Winter Olympics Sets New Record For Condom Distribution In 2018, The Olympics ain’t playing when it comes to safe sex–and Pyeongchang is going above and beyond to make sure that every athlete is safe at the Winter Olympics. South China Morning Post  has reported that 110,000 condoms will be given out this year. With the total number of athletes only reaching 2,925, that’s a little less than 40 condoms per person, which makes it the largest number distributed in the history of the Winter Olympics. If that supply runs out, the site also claims that condoms will also be available in men and women’s restrooms in addition to the media and medical centers throughout the Olympic Village. Convenience Co donated 100,000 of the condoms for “a successful hosting of the Winter Olympics and the prevention of the spread of the HIV virus.”100,000 condoms were passed out during the 2010 Vancouver and 2014 Sochi games respectively, but during the Summer Olympics in 2016, Brazil passed out a whopping 450,000 condoms. More people do compete in the Summer Games than the Winter, though, so that’s to be expected. Pyeongchang’s Winter Olympics runs from Feb. 9 to Feb 25. Continue reading →

White High School Students Make Video Screaming “F**k Black People, White Supremacy, B*tch!” Over Drake And Kodak Black Music

Arkansas HS Students Suspended Over Racist Comments A couple of students from Fayetteville High Scholl in Arkansas thought it would be an AMAZING idea to blast some Kodak Black and Drake in their home, and then take to SnapChat and exclaim “F*ck Black People” and “White Supremacy, B*tch!” where all their friends could see. As folks whose brains are fully developed know, the internet is forever and SnapChats don’t always disappear into the ether the way you’d like them to. Hence why we have a (blurred) copy of the vid in question here: One of their friends’ mothers caught wind of what was going on, and shared it with the school and other parents. According to Metro UK , despite the fact that the incident occurred off-grounds, the school’s officials deemed it in violation of the code of conduct and suspended each of the kids for a week. The video, of course, coincided with the start of Black History Month . We’re assuming they thought it would be HILARIOUS, but of course, it backfired and they issued a weak apologies their mothers made them write: We were wrong, and we sincerely apologize for what we said and for the harm that was caused at Fayetteville High School and in our family. Singer has been accused of “ask[ing] Taubes to purchase designer clothes for the filming of Ms. Singer’s show, and instructed plaintiff to submit receipts to Bravo cable Network for reimbursement,” the court papers, filed by agency T360, state. She “then asked Ms. Taubes to return the clothes for refund.” The 61-year-old, “also instructed Plaintiff [to] submit fake receipts for reimbursement on clothes that she already owned and demanded plaintiff carry out these tasks,” the complaint reads. Nina Dobrev Cultural Appropriation of the Day

Nina Dobrev, posted a picture of her doing something erotic and wild while wearing a Sombrero like most white people at a birthday dinner at a Gringo Mexican restaurant, like wearing a hijab at some shwarama place, or blackface to some Caribbean place, but where NO ONE will ever shit on her for doing, because no one respects Mexicans. Nina Dobrev from immigrant, to Canadian, to American TV star to Instagram fitness influencer who takes pictures of herself in her underwear or bikinis for her instagram audience that TV helped her build, because it’s way easier to just workout, take selfies, have fun than actually work…especially when you have more money than your GYPSY ancestors thought any of their own would ever have…her instagram is @nina which in and of itself is totally viral instagrammy… It’s not very magical or inspiring, but The post Nina Dobrev Cultural Appropriation of the Day appeared first on DrunkenStepFather.com .
