Over the holidays word spread that Piranha 3DD was headed for a direct-to-DVD release in the UK, sparking gloomy internet rumors that the boobs n’ bloodbath would suffer the same fate in the USA. So what, you say? So no 3D D-cups jiggling in your face, that’s what. Talk about a tragedy! But Piranha 3DD director John Gulager has released a statement reassuring fans gutted (pun, as always, intended) at the prospect of not getting to see 20-foot-tall 3D boobs. In the statement, released to movie site Shock ‘Til You Drop , the director confirms that Piranha 3DD is finished and is aiming for a spring theatrical release . More after the jump!

We’ve been following skintently the celebrity casting for the upcoming boobs n’ bloodbath Piranha 3DD – first they cast Gary Busey , which, while exciting, isn’t exactly our beat here at Mr. Skin. But now we’ve got sexier news- Esquire ‘s Sexiest Woman Alive 2011 news, to be precise- as Katrina Bowden , best known as sexy assistant Cherie on NBC’s 30 Rock – has been added to the Piranha 3DD cast! Katrina has never done nudity onscreen, though she donned a bikini on 30 Rock in 2009 and stripped to her skivvies in Ratko: The Dictator’s Son (2009). This makes the third female cast member who would be making her nude debut should she shed her bikini top, but we’re still hopeful that Piranha 3DD will follow in its predecessor’s big, bouncy nude boobsteps. Except for you, Gary- you can leave your trunks on. No, seriously, leave them on. Please. UPDATE: Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames and Paul Scheer have also been added to the cast of Piranha 3DD , reprising their roles from the first movie. We’ve been following the production of the upcoming boobs-n’-bloodbath Piranha 3DD closely here at Skin Central, but the one piece that was missing from our puzzle were the cast members who will be shedding their bikinis -and their limbs (hopefully in that order)- at the Big Wet Water Park . (After early reports that the park would be called Wilderness Waters,the name has been changed to the more, er, evocative Big Wet). Now that filming has begun in Wilmington, North Carolina, production company Dimension Films has released a list of the main hotties that will be battling Piranha 3DD’ s toothy terror. Danielle Panabaker of horror remakes The Crazies (2010) and Friday the 13th (2009) leads the female cast, along with former Miss California, current swimsuit model, and always tasty chocolate drop Meagan Tandy , recently seen in the runaway train thriller Unstoppable (2010). Both of the female stars are nudecomers, and if Piranha 3DD is anything like is predecessor, this could be the dawning of a nude era of boobs, bush and butt for these budding young scream queens. Not yet announced are this film’s equivalent of the cameos from porn stars Gianna Michaels, Ashlynn Brooke and Riley Steele that make Piranha 3D so mamorable. In an unprecedented move Saturday in San Francisco, the filmmaker behind such films as The Cell and The Fall stole the hearts and minds of WonderCon attendees away from Cowboys & Aliens helmer Jon Favreau — and mind you, Favreau is so popular that he has his own entrance music (“Back in Black,” natch).
