Lloyd Banks’ ‘So Forgetful’ Video Inspired By ‘Hangover’

Ryan Leslie says G-Unit rapper’s song is based on ‘personal experience.’ By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Ade Mangum Lloyd Banks Photo: MTV News G-Unit rapper Lloyd Banks wants to bring listeners into the world of a rap star with his new video for “So Forgetful.” MTV News caught up with the Queens MC on the set of the visual for the Ryan Leslie-produced track from his third album, H.F.M. 2 (Hunger for More 2) , which was released late last year on G-Unit Records. “The way we put the record together was kind of how the video is playing out,” Banks said about the song’s inception. “I stopped by the studio, [Leslie] was working on a few sounds, and he plays everything, from the drums to the keys. So, he basically started, and I just started writing the verses, and it came to life.” Leslie, a multitalented R&B artist, does double duty on “So Forgetful,” producing the synth-heavy track and singing its hook. Leslie believes Banks’ genuine perspective on the song — he raps about bagging models and forgetting how they met — makes it one of the album’s better tracks. “What’s awesome about this record is that it’s a real personal experience,” Leslie said. “Brothers be on the road all the time, and we go to different cities, and it’s hard to keep track of all the cities and everyone that we meet. Real rap is the best rap. The fact that he was drawing from personal experience to put this record together, I think that’s what makes it … a super strong one.” Banks added that the song’s groove, and a certain Zach Galifianakis-starring movie, played an integral part in its creation too. “I believe in that when you building an album, every song should have a different mood,” he said. “When I heard the certain notes that was played, it just brought me into the nightlife. It sound like something that I could enjoy, the fellas can enjoy as well as the ladies. “Actually, I thought [of] the concept of movie [‘The] Hangover.’ I thought that was pretty dope how they had went away for the weekend and so many things happen and that was kind of like the metaphor. I was bringing them into the life of a rap star or an R&B star — what it would be like. Sometimes, you literally wake up and forgot how you got there.” Are you excited to see the “So Forgetful” video? Tell us below! Related Artists Lloyd Banks Ryan Leslie

Wiz Khalifa Calls ‘Black And Yellow’ Remixes ‘A Big Honor’

During ‘RapFix Live,’ MC says versions by Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg ‘made the song even bigger.’ By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Wiz Khalifa on “RapFix Live” Photo: Sohyung Kang / MTV News Wiz Khalifa might have been bummed that Lil Wayne didn’t mention the rapper by name when he was interviewed about his “Black and Yellow” remix, but during Wednesday’s (March 30) “RapFix Live,” the Pittsburgh MC called Weezy’s version — along with remixes by Snoop Dogg and others — a “big honor.” “I know when you’re an artist and you got songs on the radio, you figure that people hear it, but to know that someone heard it, went and got the beat and flowed to it,” Wiz told MTV News’ Sway. “I know that process. It was definitely a big honor. Snoop did ‘Purp and Yellow’ — that was big and it turned it from the Steelers [anthem] to the Lakers and made the song even bigger. That worked for me too.” During the mtvU Woodies, Wiz downplayed the situation between him and Wayne. “I feel like people have a chance to speak out and acknowledge younger people or people who are grinding and coming up in the game, and they don’t always take the opportunity,” he said. “That’s all that was. “There’s plenty of people who’ve missed that opportunity, there’s plenty of people who went back and taken that opportunity when they missed it,” Wiz added. “It’s never too late. It wasn’t anything negative; it just is what it is. That’s the type of person I am. I’m a realistic person, so I tend to say realistic things.” Sill, Wiz said he was open to working with Weezy. “Everything has to be organic and natural. I’m not gonna do anything with anybody that I don’t sit down with and share points of view and chop it up,” Wiz said. “That’s really important to me.” Which “Black and Yellow” version is your favorite? Lupe Fiasco Talks Spring Break Performance

The Chicago rapper’s Las Vegas spring break gig airs Tuesday night on MTV. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Lupe Fiasco Photo: MTV News When you combine spring break and Las Vegas, things are bound to get exciting — or out of control. For the MTV Spring Break 2011 performers — Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, Pitbull and Lupe Fiasco — the challenge is to keep the crowds entertained when shots, lost tops and sunny weather threaten to steal their attention. According to Lupe Fiasco, though, it doesn’t matter to him whether he’s performing at a spring break gig or a room of Timberland-wearing concertgoers — the show goes on. “It’s no different,” the Chicago rapper told MTV News recently. “I did a show for the hardcore [fans] yesterday and it was the same thing. The same energy. At the end of the day, it’s about getting in touch with the energy — I don’t want to sound too mystical — but that human energy. It don’t matter if you black, white, Italian, Asian or in a bikini or have a fitted hat on thugged out, everybody wants to hear something and be moved by something, so for us, we want to take it to you as energetic as we possibly can.” On Monday, Wiz Khalifa’s MTV Spring Break 2011 performance aired as the Pittsburgh star hit the stage for his breakout tune “Black and Yellow.” Later in the week, Snoop Dogg and Pitbull’s spring break performances will be shown on MTV, MTV2 and mtvU. Catch Lupe Fiasco performing in Las Vegas during MTV’s Spring Break on Tuesday night (March 29) on MTV at 9:50 p.m. ET. Wiz Khalifa Wants To Rap Over ‘Really Tight’ Mumford & Sons Song

‘Roll Up’ MC tells MTV News he’s a fan of the rock quartet during Spring Break in Las Vegas. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Sway and Wiz Photo: MTV News Spring Break is a chance for willing college kids to try something new. So in the spirit of the yearly tradition, Wiz Khalifa — one of the performers at MTV’s Spring Break 2011 , along with Snoop Dogg, Pitbull and Lupe Fiasco — spoke to MTV News about experimenting with rhyming. We asked the “Black and Yellow” star whose music he would pick if he could rap over any other artist’s song. “Mumford & Sons, they got a really tight song that I wanna rap over,” Wiz said. “That I would totally rap over if I had the chance to ’cause usually, when I see the video or hear the song, I get it real quick but now I have to ask again. I forgot. [Editor’s note: Wiz is likely referring either to M&S singles “Little Lion Man” or “The Cave.”] “They’re tight and really musical,” he said about the West London quartet. “I like the instruments they use, like bongos. It’s tight and acceptable.” Although Wiz took to the Las Vegas stage joined by his DJ, the Pittsburgh rapper said he also had a band in mind if he needed a crew to back him: the Disco Biscuits. “They’re hard,” he explained. “It’s just sound-y. When you get that vibe and that music, it just feels good and makes you feel a certain way when you hear it.” Khalifa, an MTV News 11 for ’11 pick, is set to celebrate his major-label debut on Tuesday, when Rolling Papers arrives in stores and at online retailers. “We got a couple of surprises along the way to keep people interested,” he told MTV News last month. “But really, other than that, the album is done. We’re really excited. Everyone is excited. [Warner Music Group executive] Lyor [Cohen] came through to a session. I got so much support from the single and going into the album. So when we do drop it, I think we’ll get that response that everyone was expecting.” Catch Wiz performing in Las Vegas during MTV’s Spring Break on Monday night (March 28) on MTV at 9:50 p.m. ET. Wiz Khalifa Says Amber Rose And His Mom ‘Really Dig Each Other’

‘Amber is a sweetheart, and my mom, everybody who meets her loves her anyway,’ he says of rumored girlfriend and Kanye West ex. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Matt Elias Wiz Khalifa Photo: MTV News Wiz Khalifa has been linked to Kanye West ex Amber Rose recently, and while neither party has admitted they are an item, the Pittsburgh rapper recently revealed that the model met his mother. Funkmaster Flex pulled the confession out of the upstart lyricist during his appearance on the jock’s Hot 97 show. Wiz briefly addressed the meeting to MTV News, describing it as “cool.” “They actually really, really dig each other,” Wiz said. “Amber is a sweetheart, and my mom, everybody who meets her loves her anyway. So it was really tight.” Wiz took Rose to meet his mother during the weekend of the AFC Championship game, when his hometown Steelers played the New York Jets. Team officials invited the rapper to perform his breakout hit “Black and Yellow” prior to kickoff. He coyly explained to Flex that Rose, due to her travel schedule, was nearby and they hung out in Pittsburgh together. While Wiz is a Pittsburgh native through and through, he told The Source in the magazine’s December/January issue that he plans to relocate to Los Angeles. He’s spent a lot of time out West recently recording with Snoop Dogg for their collaborative movie and soundtrack “High School.” When he makes the move to California, though, it won’t be something he announces, he said. “You wouldn’t be able to tell if I did or didn’t because I’m out there so much,” Wiz said. “And that’s what I wanted it to be. I kind of wanted to blend. If you do see me a lot, then that might be why.” Do you think Wiz and Amber should be a couple? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Wiz Khalifa

What was the Best Commercial of Super Bowl XLV?

Christina Aguilera flubbed, the Black Eyes Peas lit up and, somewhere along the way, Aaron Rodgers led the Green Bay Packers to a 31-25 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. But in the minds of many viewers, Super Bowl XLV was all about what happened in between these events. Namely, the commercials. From Eminem returning home to a mini version of Darth Vader using his Force, car companies came up with the most creative advertisements. In our opinion, at least. What’s yours? Super Bowl Picks From Snoop Dogg, The Game, DJ Khaled, More

Ray J and Big K.R.I.T. also choose between Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers. By Alvin Blanco Snoop Dogg Photo: Donna Ward/Getty Images Hip-hop and sports go hand in hand, so plenty of rappers are making public predictions of what team they’re rooting for during this weekend’s Super Bowl XLV. Although Wiz Khalifa and Lil Wayne are getting the most attention thanks to “Black and Yellow” and “Green and Yellow,” respectively, plenty more acts are chiming in with their opinions. Some artists have simply tweeted their picks, others have turned into momentary sports analysts during interviews, and one even received a customized boombox to showcase his team allegiance. Big Snoop Dogg is picking Big Ben Roethlisberger’s Pittsburgh Steelers to win Super Bowl XLV this Sunday. While Snoop hails from Long Beach, California, he has been a Steelers fan since he was a kid and plans to present the Steelers with a TDK Life on Record 3-Speaker Boombox outfitted with black-and-yellow trimming in honor of his favorite team before the game. In a statement, Snoop said he has always “loved their attitude and the way they played” during their hard-fought games against the Raiders in the ’70s and has “been riding with them ever since.” Up-and-coming Mississippi rapper and Def Jam signee Big K.R.I.T. is picking the Steelers because, “They used to being under that pressure.” The New Boys (Ben J and Legacy), who rep Cali like Snoop, are also backing the Steelers. R&B crooner Ray J is riding with the black and yellow too. DJ Khaled reps Miami all day, but with the Dolphins out of the picture, his vote is for a Steelers win. While the majority seem to be siding with Pittsburgh (not including Lil Wayne, of course), outspoken L.A. rapper the Game is putting all his chips behind the Green Bay Packers. “‘Green and yellow, green and yellow,'” the Game told MTV News. “They got the G’s on they helmet. You gotta go with the team with the G’s on their helmet.” Whichever team wins, their theme song is already set. Who is your Super Bowl pick? Share it in the comments!
