After firing Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd , The View was left with two empty seats at its famous round table. Rosie O’Donnell is returning to the show next season , a prospect that has many fans excited. But without an equally strong personality to keep her in check, there’s a chance that Rosie may dominate the proceedings. The Rosie vs. Elisabeth Hasselbeck debates made for some of The View ‘s best moments (and highest ratings), but it’s unlikely that fans would want to tune in for midday fisticuffs season after season. Plus, the intensity of the O’Donnell and Hasselbeck’s arguments ended up taking a toll on the entire panel. So producers are left with the challenge of keeping the discussions lively (a bunch of women sitting around agreeing with each other doesn’t make for great television), without leaving the show’s panel and audience bitterly divided. The View has reportedly cast a wide net in its search for talent, with two front-runners quickly emerging: Rumors that Meghan McCain would join The View began circulating earlier this month, and many fans online seem to feel the daughter of Arizona senator and former presidential candidate John McCain would be the perfect choice. Her father is a staunch Republican, but Meghan takes a liberal stance on most social issues. Her good looks and clever insights helped her rise to prominence during the 2012 presidential campaign, and she could serve as the perfect counterpart to O’Donnell – a sort of significantly toned down version of Hasselbeck. Another name that’s been mentioned as a potential fifth host is actress Leah Remini. Remini’s rejection of Scientology made news last year, and revealed the former King of Queens star and The Talk co-host star to be a thoughtful and discerning social critic who’s not afraid to make powerful enemies. Reports that emerged today claim that McCain is close to reaching a deal with The View, but until she signs on the dotted line, Remini still has a chance. Who do you think would make a better host? Tony Dungy won the Super Bowl as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts in 2007. But he didn’t win over a lot of fans this week when he said he would NOT have drafted Michael Sam for his team, explaining that the first openly gay player in NFL history would be too much of a “distraction.” “I wouldn’t have taken him. Not because I don’t believe Michael Sam should have a chance to play, but I wouldn’t want to deal with all of it,” Dungy told The Tampa Tribune, adding: “It’s not going to be totally smooth … things will happen.” Tony Dungy: I Would Not Draft Michael Sam This remark especially caused a stir because Dungy openly campaigned for Michael Vick to be given a fair chance in the league after he served two years in prison on dog fighting charges awhile back. Dungy later became a mentor for Vick, who, as a star quarterback seeing a starting position again, was a far more prominent player with a far more shady past than that of Sam. The defensive end was drafted by the Rams in the seventh round and just hopes to make the team. In a statement Tuesday, Dungy implied he should have been asked specific follow-up questions by writer Ira Kaufman and sought to clarify his stance. “I was not asked whether or not Michael Sam deserves an opportunity to play in the NFL. He absolutely does,” Dungy said. “I was not asked whether his sexual orientation should play a part in the evaluation process. It should not. “I was not asked whether I would have a problem having Michael Sam on my team. I would not.” The ex-coach went on to try and walk a fine line between who, exactly, would be distracted by Sam’s presence on a team and why he, personally, would not have drafted Sam. “I do not believe Michael’s sexual orientation will be a distraction to his teammates or his organization. I do, however, believe that the media attention that comes with it will be a distraction. Unfortunately we are all seeing this play out now, and I feel badly that my remarks played a role in the distraction. “I wish Michael Sam nothing but the best in his quest to become a star in the NFL and I am confident he will get the opportunity to show what he can do on the field. My sincere hope is that we will be able to focus on his play and not on his sexual orientation.” 28 Celebrities Who Are Out and Proud 1. Stevie J is making a full press tour to make sure everyone knows he takes care of his kids. Stevie J Shocked By Child Support Lawsuit Steebie tried begging his baby mama to stop putting him on blast for unpaid child support. You know those baby mamas ain’t having it. According to Rolling Out: Stevie J is definitely no stranger to baby mama drama, but the drama came with an unbelievably high price earlier this month when the “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” star was hit a $1.2 million child support bill form a former girlfriend, claiming he’s stiffed her on child support for years. In a new interview with Sister 2 Sister, Stevie explains that he was completely blindsided by his baby’s mother’s claims. “I didn’t know. We was [sic] just chilling two weeks prior to the filing. We was [sic] hanging out!” he explained. “Nah! I mean let me know what’s going on. Let me know the play. I didn’t know the play. It’s just like, ‘OK. I thought we was [sic] cool. I just hit you with some racks and some bands!’ ” Since being hit with the lawsuit, Stevie says that he hasn’t had much if any communication with the former girlfriend, Antoinette. “I haven’t really sat down and talked to Antoinette about that,” Stevie said. “I just want to make sure our kids aren’t affected by what’s going on.” Stevie explains that a default judgment was previously made regarding his child support payments and that he wasn’t even in the country when the judgment was made, leaving him no opportunity to challenge what he calls sky-high child support rates that he calls “some [LeBron James] or [Kobe Bryant] numbers.” “They pretty much gave me a number and they’ve been adding that up over a large amount of time,” said Stevie. Despite the lawsuit and the blow to his character, Stevie insists that he’s a good father to all of his kids and that he’s always provided for them financially. “I take care of my kids and do what I’ve got to do for my kids. A number like that? [whistles]!” Stevie said. “At the end of the day, I’m a fair guy. I don’t believe in anybody taking advantage of anybody.” One-time don’t care if you got those Kobe or Lebron numbers or not– they locking that azz up.
So says Rufio himself! Chatting with Crave Online, Hook actor Dante Basco waxed nostalgic about imaginary food fightin’ with Robin Williams in the 1991 cult flick and let slip that he’s attached to produce a Rufio prequel, with Zorro director Rpin Suwannath at the helm. Of course, the project is A) currently only in development and B) going the indie route, so take it with a grain of salt. That said, in the spirit of the Lost Boys, let your inner kid dream big. Ru-fi-OOO! According to Basco, who appeared in two films at the Los Angeles Asian Film Festival, the Rufio film will be based on a musical that comedy troupe The Younger Statesmen wrote in college. “These guys have a whole storyline of how he gets the mohawk,” Basco told Crave . “The whole story’s crazy. These guys came with the script, I’m like, ‘You guys wrote this?'” “Not only did they write this, they did the musical in their college. They were going to go off Broadway with it and then they lost their insurance and they came to Hollywood. If anyone saw their play it’s that, but the newer version is pretty intense. They added more action. I never saw the play but I think they added more backstory to Rufio, like how he became Rufio which I was impressed by.” So: Good idea or bad idea? The original film made money but tanked with critics (though it did garner five Oscar nods), but ask any kid of the ’90s and I’d bet they’d watch a Rufio spin-off in a heartbeat. [via Crave Online ]
