Kenyon Martin Regrets Clowning Jeremy Lin’s Locks: ‘Never Meant To Be Racial’

Go here to see the original:

Source: Doug Pensinger / Getty Retired NBA All Star Kenyon Martin told Sports Illustrated that his comments about Brooklyn Nets guard  Jeremy Lin ‘s locks were just playful banter, not racial hatred. K-Mart also revealed that his joke that Lin wants to be black caused some trolls to call him “nigger,” while others messaged his son. Martin said, “I recently erased the post off my page. People were sending messages to my son. Like, no. Say whatever to me and about me. I have thick skin. I know what my intentions were. But then those are the things that are coming across. You n—– this. Your n—– that. Sports Illustrated has the full interview, here are the highlights: Kenyon Martin: This was never meant to be racial. It was thought of as what would’ve been done in our locker room. It would’ve been jokes. We would’ve been making jokes. It’s far from racist. I guess saying “Wanting to be black” made it racial. But I despise people that look down because of race. It was meant to be a “Ha Ha Ha” moment. If you watch, I was laughing in the statements. It got taken too far. I wanted to clear the air. I don’t know Jeremy. He’s had a few crazy hairstyles before and I had the same thought process: ‘WTF.’ But I wasn’t trying to be racist. I didn’t even know he did the Players Tribune thing. RN: So to be clear, what was your intention? KM: If you listen to it, I was saying he wouldn’t have made it in our locker room. We would’ve made jokes every single day. He is a grown man. He can rock whatever hairstyle he wants to rock. People missed all of that. Just like I’m a grown man. I can say whatever I want. RN: Anything else you want to get off your chest? KM: I have no problem with Jeremy, man. People were attacking me, calling me racist or n—–. I didn’t call him any kind of derogatory thing. He has the right to rock any hairstyle he wants. It got out of control. It wasn’t meant to be anything more than banter. Jeremy is an athlete and I would hope he understood that this was in fun and not to offend and as long as he’s not offended that’s all that matters. I wish him well. RN: Have you spoken to Jeremy?  KM: I DM’d him after the fact. I’m a grown man. I can admit if something got out of control or if I did something wrong. I’m trying to get his phone number as we speak so we can clear the air.

Desus And Mero Are The Best Medicine For All Of Life’s Ailments

Original post:

Source: Taylor Hill / Getty Desus Nice and The Kid Mero came from the mud; but their crazy come-up story doesn’t even scratch the surface of why they are not only so likable, but prevalent in today’s world inundated with commentary. With social media, everybody with a phone can–and usually does–put in their 2 cents on everything that comes across their screen. It becomes hard to weed out what consumers themselves actually want to see, and whose takes are important enough to seek out on the regular. Though Desus and Mero got their start as those same social media warriors, they’ve risen to boast resumes that include their TV show (already renewed for a second season)  Desus & Mero , their weekly Redbull-sponsored podcast The Bodega Boys , a sold-out line of merchandise, and a plethora of live appearances throughout the US and Canada both at huge comedy festivals and on their own headlining bills. Because these Bronx, NY natives’ claim to their most mainstream fame is a late night television show, a logical comparison would be to the other players in that genre like Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel . The truth remains, however, that with a network like Viceland and personalities like Desus and Mero, the only place their show compares to the others is on paper. Featuring both smaller guests and people like Diddy , and almost completely off-the-dome narrations, the only gripe most viewers have with the show is that it should be longer than half an hour. The most refreshing part of watching these two is the stark contrast from the political correctness of a show on a major network. Hosts like Jimmy Fallon and James Corden saw endless backlash over humanizing Donald Trump and his former press secretary Sean Spicer , and that’s something fans of Desus and Mero never have to worry about. Though they’ve mentioned many times before (possibly in jest) that they can’t wait to be sell-outs later on in their career–we all have our price!–the compromising of their own ideals would make the entire shtick they’ve mastered obsolete. Fans who have had the pleasure of seeing this rise to stardom from their Twitter roots, to their year-long stint on Complex while they  juggled their day jobs, have no choice but to be die-hards. No matter how big Desus and Mero get in their career, they’ll always maintain an intimate fan relationship that feels like those same underground podcasters you heroically put all of your friends onto. In a world that’s growing more cynical as each day passes, it’s important to find and champion those who help you get through those days–and Desus and Mero continue to be the best medicine for all of life’s ailments.

He’s fired. He’s fired!’” The president then doubled down on his statements in a series of tweets aimed at players who choose to exercise their freedom of speech during games. Aaron Hernandez: Late NFL Star Suffered "Severe CTE," Autopsy Reveals

It’s quite possible that there’s no more tragic story in the history of professional football than that of Aaron Hernandez. Back in 2015, Hernandez was convicted of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Odin Lloyd. In April, the world was shocked by the news that Hernandez had taken his own life inside his cell at the Souza-Barankowski Correctional Facility in Lancaster, Massachusetts. Today, Hernandez’s autopsy results have been made public, and they confirm what many who followed his case closely have long suspected. Doctors have revealed to The New York Times that the 27-year-old was suffering from CTE, a brain injury that’s shockingly common to football players. According to the Times a team of neurologists stated that their examination revealed “the most severe case they had ever seen in someone of Aaron’s age.”  Sadly, the news does not come as much of a surprise. CTE has had devastating effects on innumerable football players, both professional and otherwise. The condition has been linked to the suicides of Junior Seau  and Tyler Sash, the decline of late New York Giants legend Frank Gifford, and countless other NFL stars. It seems impossible that we’ll ever understand the full impact of the disease on America’s best-loved sport. But today, we know a little bit more about the devastating impact it’s had on Aaron Hernandez, Odin Lloyd, and their loved ones. Now, Hernandez’s fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins, is suing the NFL and the New England Patriots as a result of the diagnosis. Lawyers for Jenkins claim “Aaron had stage 3 CTE usually seen in players with a median age of death of 67 years.” The suit filed this afternoon claims that the Patriots “were fully aware of the damage that could be inflicted from repetitive impact injuries and failed to disclose, treat or protect him from the dangers of such damage.” Attorneys say that Jenkins, who has a 4-year-old daughter with Hernandez, is seeking “redress for the loss of parental consortium she has experienced based on the negligent conduct of Defendants that deprived her of the companionship and society of her father, Aaron Hernandez.” The suit concludes by stating bluntly: “On April 19, 2017, Aaron succumbed to the symptoms of CTE and committed suicide.” We’ll have further updates on this developing story as more information becomes available. Tom Brady: Caught Lying About Floyd Mayweather Friendship?

As expected, Floyd Mayweather defeated Conor McGregor Saturday night in a fight that was far more entertaining than it had any right to be. Of course, now that his career in the ring is over, Mayweather will likely spend the rest of his days engaged in the other kind of battle he’s become famous for. No, we’re not talking about the many incidents of spousal abuse he’s been arrested for over the years. We’re talking about the odd, passive-aggressive verbal sparring between Floyd and random celebrities that seems to take up much of the boxer’s time. The most high-profile example in the past year saw Floyd getting dissed by former friend Justin Bieber , who decided to cut ties with the Money Man as a result of Mayweather’s ungodly ways. (Strip clubs and Moet don’t jibe with the Biebs’ newly Bible-thumping lifestyle.) Now, Floyd is in a tift with another talented, but widely-despised pretty boy. And amazingly, he’s found a frenemy who might be even more universally-disliked than Bieber. Asked about his celebrity friends in a recent interview, Mayweather stated that he and Tom Brady are pretty much besties. “That’s a close friend of mine. Tom Brady is a very, very close friend,” Mayweather said. “An unbelievable guy with unbelievable talent…he’s a great guy. Actually, Tom Brady texted me yesterday.” In case you didn’t get the point that he and Tom are bros for life, Mayweather continued: “We have a cool friendship. He texted me and asked me ‘How’s everything going?’ And I texted him back: ‘Everything is cool, how you doing? How’s the family?’ And he said, ‘Everything is going A-OK.'” Wow, sounds like they’re pretty tight. Unless, of course, you ask Tom Brady about his supposed BFF. Fortunately, that’s just what a pair of Boston radio hosts did this week, and the results were hilariously awkward. After repeating that he’s only met Floyd “a couple of times,” Brady responded with a curt “no” when asked if he and Mayweather are friends. “No, I met him a couple of times,” Brady said, clearly dying to move on to a new topic. “I think he’s a great fighter. That was a great fight the other night.” We hate to side with Floyd on … well, on anything, really, but Mayweather is probably telling the truth here. TMZ is reporting that Floyd was spotted video conferencing with Brady during a press conference just before his fight with McGregor. For boxers, every fight is one of the biggest days of their life, so if they’re video chatting with you the night before, you’re probably more than just some dude they met a couple times. In all likelihood, the Patriots QB is just trying to manage his public image after the debacle that ensued last summer when the world learned that Brady and Donald Trump are friends . Anyone who watched the Deflategate press conference knows old Tom Terrific isn’t the most media-savvy guy on the planet but watching that guy who used to make inappropriate comments about your wife at cocktail parties become the most powerful man in the world is enough to teach anyone a lesson.

Hurricane Harvey Relief: Which Celebrities Donated?

Hurricane Harvey was a Category 4 storm when it first made landfall in Texas. We have all seen the photos of the flooding. We've seen highways that have flooded so high that the water above them has waves. We've seen people standing on rooftops, people riding boats between houses, and heard the horrifying stories of people who were swept away by the water. Celebrities have heard this, too, and they have been using their considerable platforms and their own personal resources to help with the relief effort. As climate change continues to destabilize what were once more temperate weather patterns, these “500 year storms” will be coming more and more frequently. Many believe that we need a better coordinate governmental response when these disasters strike. It's good to hear stories of private citizens acting as heroes, but it's better if they never have to. In the mean time, however, boat owners have been taking time off of work and traveling with their boats towards Texas where they hope to help distribute supplies and reach people who are still stranded. Celebrities are donating money to the relief effort, but some stars are doing even more. 1. JJ Watt JJ Watt’s relief fundraiser had an initial goal in the six digits. It has currently raised over $10 million and the amount continues to clim as donations pour in. 2. Jennifer Lopez and Alexander Rodriguez J Lo and A-Rod have each donated $25,000. They have also used their celebrity status to encourage their followers to donate to the Red Cross. 3. DJ Khaled In addition to sending his prayers to the people of Houston, DJ Khaled has also donated $25,000 to aid those ravaged by Harvey. 4. Nicki Minaj Nicki Minaj announced that she was donating $25,000 when she shared Kevin Hart’s message. 5. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Dwayne Johnson donated $50,000 and shared Kevin Hart’s plea. 6. Kevin Hart Kevin Hart is said to be the first major celebrity to donate, putting up $50,000. He’s also encouraged other celebrities to do the same. View Slideshow

Big Brother Recap: A Storm Rocks The House

After that big veto ceremony left Matt and Raven on the block, it was evident that there were going to be fireworks on the latest episode of the CBS hit.  When the tense episode got underway, Jason went straight into the storage room and questioned the decision he had just made. Alex followed him and said it was always going to cause a fight.  While they were in there wondering what they could do, Matt and Raven were in the Kitchen yelling because they were apparently blindsided. Paul took Raven outside to cool off and let her know he was there for her.  He was using her shock to his advantage so she would remember that he was there for her when Jason stuck the knife in. Matt stayed inside and yelled about Jason being a “punk bitch.” When Jason made his exit from the storage room, Matt was outside with Raven, so he went to the door and put his ear to it to see if he was still the hot topic around the house.  He was.  Matt made his way inside and called Jason out for hiding and kept calling him names. “I never expected a cowboy like you to be a p—y like that,” he yelled. Here’s the thing with Matt: He has played ZERO game. He has spent the summer with his face inside a bowl of cereal and canoodling with Raven.  Maybe if they actually WON a competition or spoke to the other houseguests, they would have been safe. Instead, they wanted to blame everybody but them.  At the end of the day, they are both cowards and have stated many times they wanted to make it to the jury. Maybe the common word around the house is that Paul is winning, so they are all settling for the jury.  It’s sad seeing all of these idiots give up and not play the game. Matt was even down for throwing his life in the game away to save Raven. Like, does he not know $500,000 is at stake? Why would you give up your shot at that money for someone you barely know?  Matt then tried to move the target on to Kevin … and it worked. He asked Kevin about the hinky vote last week. We all know it was Alex and Jason who voted against him.  Kevin swore on his kids that he did not vote against Matt. And, the cookie crumbled for Christmas when she argued with Kevin.  She asked him about going to the pool, and she got pissed that he asked her the same thing. However, Josh joined in the conversation and asked about the $25,000.  It got tense, but Kevin refused to swear on his kids again. This confirmed to Christmas that Alex was the other vote with Jason and it made her realize they are more dangerous than they get credit for.  Sometime later, Kevin went to speak to Matt, and Paul noted that Kevin does this every week when someone is about to be evicted. He makes friends with them so that he has a jury vote.  This successfully turned the rest of the house against Kevin, and Kevin knew when Josh started piping up that it was all part of the mob mentality to rattle him.  When it came to the eviction, Matt was given a penalty vote for not following the have not way of life, and was evicted by a landslide. I just can’t with this guy.  He has got to be one of the worst players… ever.  He almost made Julie fall off her chair laughing when he said that Raven was one of the best players of the game and that she could win.  “Do you really think she has a shot to win? She hasn’t won anything,” the host said.  As if that was not bad enough, we did not even get to see the HOH competition play out. The rain in Los Angeles was just too much of a risk. Raven still did not have waterproof makeup, so that was that.  What did you think of the latest episode? View Slideshow: Big Brother Winners: RANKED!
