Jesus Take The Wheel: Teen Grandson Of Chicago Congressman Danny Davis Murdered Over “Gym Shoes”

Congressman Danny Davis’ Teenage Grandson Murdered Over His Shoes In Chicago Greiving grandfather and U.S. Congressman Danny Davis lost his 15-year-old grandson, Jovan Wilson, over “gym shoes and clothes” during a home-invasion at his residence in Chicago last night according to ChicagoTribune . Another tragic instance of a young person losing their life in the embattled city. “He was a typical 15-year-old,” the congressman said. “He liked basketball. If you listened to him he was a basketball star, but he liked basketball and music. All those kinds of things. He was an avid sports fan, he knew all about, you know, the stats of different players.” Two teens, 15 and 17, boy and girl respectively, broke into Davis’ south side home where Jovan, his 3 siblings and an uncle were. Police say the teen assailants targets Jovan and wanted his sneakers (at the risk of being irresponsible, no one would be surprised if these were Jordans). After a brief argument, the 15-year-old boy pulled a pistol and shot Jovan in the head. He was pronounced dead on the scene. “Initially it was that he had been shot and then actually the police commander called me and indicated that, there during a home invasion, he had been shot and it didn’t look good,” Davis said. “Immediately I simply left and came out to the area where it had taken place,” Davis said. “It’s totally disconcerting.” In speaking on the gun violence in his city, Davis revealed a heartbreaking truth: “I guess that I always knew that the possibility existed that it could happen close to me,” Davis said. “As a matter of fact, I thought it was so unfortunate because Jovan had just reached a point, 15, his grades had improved at school. His father had just told me about how proud of him that he was because he was catching on and realizing that all of his life was in front of him.” R.I.P. Javon Wilson. He lost his life over some f**king shoes. We gotta stop this s#!t. Image via U.S. Gov’t

The Kaepernick Effect: NBA Commissioner Adam Silver Hopes NBA Players Will Stand For National Anthem

Adam Silver Wants To See NBA Players Standing For The National Anthem All eyes will be on the NBA’s biggest stars this Tuesday night as the first game of the season tips-off with a primetime match-up between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the New York Knicks. This summer we witnessed both teams’ star players, Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony, take a stand for justice at the ESPY’s. In the wake of Colin Kaepernick’s “controversial” decision to take a knee during the National Anthem as a silent protest, many wonder whether or not players in the majority African-American NBA will follow suit. Commissioner Adam Silver seems to hope that they don’t according to an ESPN report… “I don’t know if the players are organizing anything,” Silver said at the NBA’s board of governors meeting in Manhattan. “All I can say is what we have seen in multiple preseason games so far is our players standing for the national anthem. It would be my hope that they continue to stand for the national anthem. I think that is the appropriate thing to do.” The commmish goes on to say: Silver said Kathy Behrens, NBA president of social responsibility and player programs, continues to talk with the players about the best approach moving forward. “We have had very constructive discussions … about meaningful action that we can take collectively in our communities to help build trust, whether between police officers and members of the community looking for constructive ways to address racial injustice, economic injustice,” Silver said. “I am very proud with the relationship we have built with the union, with the players on these issues. My expectation is that we’ll see into the regular season more of what we have seen in the preseason, which is a sense of, let’s deal directly with these important issues.” Would you like to see the Association’s biggest stars follow Colin Kaepernick’s lead? Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (Kinda) Apologizes For Criticizing Colin Kaepernick’s Anthem Protests

Ruth Bader Ginsburg Apologizes For Criticizing Anthem Protests Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg now wishes she would have STFU when it comes to the recent National Anthem protests lead by Colin Kaepernick reports ESPN : “Some of you have inquired about a book interview in which I was asked how I felt about Colin Kaepernick and other NFL players who refused to stand for the national anthem,” Ginsburg’s statement read. “Barely aware of the incident or its purpose, my comments were inappropriately dismissive and harsh. I should have declined to respond.” It’s the second time in recent months that the 83-year-old Ginsburg has apologized for public comments. She said her comments criticizing Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump in July were “ill advised.” Do you think the Court Justice’s apology was adequate or nah?

Keith Lamont Scott: Police Shooting Video Released to Public

On September 20, Charlotte, North Carolina resident Keith Lamont Scott was shot four times by police officer Brentley Vinson. Scott, a father of seven, later died of his injuries. He was 43 years old. Now, new footage showing the minutes directly before and after the shooting has been obtained and released by NBC News. Viewers should be warned that the footage is disturbing: Keith Lamont Scott Shooting Footage The voice on the video is that of Scott’s wife, Rakeyia. She can be heard repeatedly pleading with officers to not shoot. When police instruct Lamont to drop his weapon, Rakeyia informs that her husband is unarmed: “He doesn’t have a weapon, he has a TBI [traumatic brain injury], he’s not going to do anything to you guys, he just took his medicine.” A police spokesperson says Scott was holding an object that appeared to be a gun, which can be seen near his feet in photos taken after the shooting. In the days since the shooting, Charlotte has erupted in protests and riots, which have sadly resulted in more gun violence. Governor Pat McCrory has declared a state of emergency, and ordered the deployment of the Charlotte National Guard. This morning, a man named Rayquan Borum was charged with shooting a protester. Earlier this week, Scott’s family issued a statement to protesters, reading: “As a family, we respect the rights of those who wish to protest, but we ask that people protest peacefully.” “Please do not hurt people or members of law enforcement, damage property or take things that do not belong to you in the name of protesting.” Today’s developments come on the heels of news that Tulsa, Oklahoma police officer Betty Shelby has been charged with first degree manslaughter . Shelby was the officer under scrutiny for shooting Terrenece Crutcher, another unarmed black man, last week. The problem of police violence against people of color in America has drawn global attention in recent months. Spurred by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s refusal to stand for the national anthem before a preseason NFL game, players across the league have begun using their platform to protest the violence and demand action. Earlier today, Charlotte mayor Jennifer Roberts announced that there were no plans to release the video of Scott’s shooting, as she believed doing so would affect the integrity of an ongoing police investigation. “When you are still gathering eyewitness accounts, they are still talking to folks,” Roberts said in a press conference. “If you have already seen something on the Internet, it can cloud your memory, it can alter what you think you saw.” She added: “We want eyewitnesses to tell us without being led or having their memory changed by something they heard or saw.” We’ll have further updates on this story as more information becomes available.
