“The Decision”: One Year Later

See the article here:

One year ago on July 8, 2010 shortly after 9:30 pm NBA superstar LeBron James –arguably the most coveted free agent in sports history–changed the landscape of professional basketball with ten words: “this fall I’m gonna take my talents to South Beach”. Just like that LeBron James was no longer a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers , his hometown team, the team that drafted him number one overall in the 2003 NBA draft. Just like that James, whose image was on par with Yankees captain Derek Jeter (the squeaky clean variety), became a pariah. Cleveland fans ripped LeBron jerseys off their person and burned them in disgust much to the nationally televised horror of King James. The name-calling was relentless utilizing Nike slogans (“Quitness”), his government name (“LeBum”), and his own royal self-proclaimed nickname (“Queen James”). While Cleveland fans were the only people who really had a right to be upset at LeBron, Knicks fans (who swore he would choose the team since the venue of his announcement was in Connecticut), who cheered him every time he step foot in the Garden during the 2009-2010 season, piled on the insults as well. Hall of Fame players took subtle shots at LeBron (Michael Jordan) and direct bullets (Charles Barkley) questioning his leadership ability and his place as an all-time great. His close friend Jay-Z reportedly stopped speaking to James miffed that he was not informed that LeBron would not be coming to the New Jersey Nets . The following night LeBron topped himself successfully alienating the fans of the other 24 or so teams who were not in the running for his services by appearing on stage with his new teammates Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in a pep rally/free agent signing celebration where he arrogantly predicted the Heat would win “not 5, not 6, not 7…” NBA championships. Now that the 2010-2011 season has ended in an NBA Finals collapse for LeBron’s Heat, where James himself did nothing in the fourth quarter of all the games, the NBA lockout threatens to shorten the upcoming season and there are rumors that Bosh may be traded to open up more money to bring in better role players. The only question I have is: if LeBron had chosen to stay with Cleveland would he have been vilified the same way for televising his decision? Lala and Carmelo Anthony Want To Be Like Will and Jada Pinkett Smith

Continue reading here:

Over the weekend, Lala and her hubby Carmelo Anthony celebrated their one year wedding anniversary. In celebration of their one year, the couple chatted with the folks at the NY Times where they discussed their own relationship as well as couple’s they look up to and aspire to be like such as Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. It already seems as if the “first lady of the NBA” -as she’s often called- and her boo, Carmelo, are following in Will and Jada’s footsteps after creating  a production company together which produced “Lala’s Full Court Wedding” as well as the Mike Tyson Documentary. Check out an excerpt from their interview with the NY Times below. When asked about Will and Jada: “I love Will Smith and Jada Pinkett! You see the love, and you can see the support, and they partner on things and produce together. But she has a life, and he has a life.” When asked about couples that inspire them: “Will and Jada have a tremendous relationships, Jay-Z and Beyonce have a tremendous relationship, Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys, they’re a couple we see that inspires us. But we want to be ourselves. We want people to say, ‘We want our relationship to be like Melo and LaLa.’” When asked about Lala wanting to be more than a ‘basketball wife’: “A lot of times with basketball players, their wives, and I’m not criticizing, but their life is just about the man, what time is he getting home, why hasn’t he called me? But I’m so much more than” that. I’m a mom, I’m an actress, I’m a producer. Like, out of all that, I don’t want to just be called a basketball wife. What I see in Will Smith and Jada Pinkett, is having your own, and I tell everyone that.” When asked about creating a business partnership: “I saw her wanting to go into movies and producing films and documentaries and reality shows, So I said instead of letting somebody else come on board and produce all this stuff, we have the capabilities and the relationships, we can create our own production company and bring everything through that.” I absolutely LOVE Lala and Carmelo’s relationship and I definitely don’t think it will take long for younger couples to aspire to want to have a relationship just like them! Tom Felton Predicts Snape Will Win ‘Harry Potter’ World Cup

‘Everyone loves Snape. He has the greatest story of the lot,’ actor tells MTV News. By Aly Semigran, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Tom Felton Photo: MTV News No matter how you feel about the mean-spirited Draco Malfoy, actor Tom Felton is well aware that the character he’s played for 10 years garners mixed reactions from die-hard “Harry Potter” fans. “Either people loved him or loved to hate him,” Felton told MTV News during a sit-down chat in preparation for the release of the wildly anticipated “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” Even Felton himself has conflicting feelings about how people react to Malfoy. “It’s weird — I never quite know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing that Draco is generally … a pleasantly accepted character,” the star said, adding, “I always find it weird when 6-year-olds’ parents say, ‘You’re his favorite character!’ I’m always like, ‘I’m not sure if I should be. I’m not sure that reflects your great parenting skills!” But that doesn’t mean the MTV Movie Awards winner didn’t want his character to win the ongoing “Harry Potter” World Cup . For weeks, “Harry Potter” fans have participated in the bracket game, which will declare the best character in the saga. While Felton’s Draco did make it very far in the tournament before being bested by Final Four competitor Sirius Black (“That’s a little unfair, I think — don’t you?” the 23-year-old pondered to MTV’s Josh Horowitz), it wasn’t quite far enough to take the whole thing. “I’m bitter about not making it to the final post, but at the same time, I’m very grateful. It’s awesome,” the actor said. See the full bracket and vote! Still, Felton, despite being voted out, was more than willing to play along in the World Cup. When asked whom he thinks should advance past the Final Four (Hermione Granger vs. Severus Snape, Sirius Black vs. Ron Weasley) and win the whole thing, the actor said, with no hesitation, “Snape.” He continued, “Everyone loves Snape. He has the greatest story of the lot, I think, where you don’t know which he’s going to be the whole way.” While the “Harry Potter” World Cup picks the best character in the series, not just the final film, Felton still thinks Snape takes the cake. “He has a beautiful ending, doesn’t he?,” Felton asked, adding, “I didn’t expect that at all. It’s so nice to see this hard character Snape turn into this soft shell of a man.” In short, by Felton’s prediction, Severus Snape is “gonna take the crown, man.” Whether you agree or disagree with Felton’s pick, you can still vote throughout the day on Monday, July 11. Then, the winner of the “Harry Potter” World Cup will be announced later that evening during MTV’s live stream of the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” red-carpet premiere in New York. Get Your Life Together Already!!! Pacman Jones Popped For Fighting One-Time While Slizzard

This fool here!! After finding a way to mostly avoid headlines for the past few months, Pacman Jones was in Cincinnati last night doing what he does best: f*cking up. The folks at WLWT report that Jones, who now plays for the Bengals, was arrested early Sunday at a Cincinnati bar. He reportedly was intoxicated and disruptive. He allegedly got into an argument, and he allegedly was uncooperative when asked to leave. As Jones was being arrested, he reportedly struggled to get out of the handcuffs. Ultimately, two officers were required to restrain him. With the league taking the position (ridiculous as it may be) that the personal conduct policy applies even though the players are currently locked out, it’ll be interesting to see how Pacman’s latest legal entanglement impact his career, given his history. You big dummy. Source

Cry Me A River: The NBA Lockout Is Interfering With Kimmy Cakes And Kris Humphries’ Reality Spinoff Plans

That gosh darned lockout is screwing with your Kimmy Cakes overload dolls! Humphries and fiancee Kim Kardashian are in talks for a spinoff reality show on E!, dependent upon where the power forward signs as a free agent, Hollywoodlife.com reports. “Kim and Kris have been filming different parts of their lives, including wedding prep, but their show hinges on Kris’s contract negotiations,” an insider close to the production told the Web site. “Currently he’s a free agent, but it all depends on what teams he ends up with and their rules for their players and outside commitments.” Humphries is unable to sign with a team until the NBA lockout is over. He made $3.2 million last season and the Nets want him back at a reasonable price — and all indications are he wants to return. “We have to take care of the lockout first and from there my agent is going to handle the process and lay everything out,” Humphries said last month. The couple intends to continue on E!’s “Keeping up with the Kardashians” in addition to a new show, conditions permitting. The good news is, if the lockout continues Kris can spend all year being Kimmy Cakes’ b*tch! And what a job that is… Source

‘Harry Potter’ World Cup Down To Final Four!

It’s Hermione vs. Snape and Ron vs. Sirius in a showdown for the title of best ‘Potter’ character. By Terri Schwartz Photo: Warner Bros. With only four days left to vote in MTV News’ “Harry Potter” World Cup , the competition is heating up as the contestants narrow down. The Final Four “Harry Potter” characters were revealed Friday (July 8), and now Hermione Granger faces off against Professor Snape while Ron Weasley has a showdown with Sirius Black . It’s anyone’s call as to who will make it into the finals, let alone take home the trophy. “It gets down to who fans really want to see take this entire tournament home,” said Julia Hodges of DanRadcliffe.com and RupertGrint.net . Even with the stakes raised so high, the “Harry Potter” experts MTV has been chatting with have their own gut feelings about who is going to make it into the final round. And, according to Rosie Halse of the Leaky Cauldron , this is Hermione’s last hurrah. “This is where Hermione is going to fall down, unfortunately,” Halse predicted. “I love Hermione to pieces, but I think that Snape has a much more ardent following. He has so many twists and turns in the book, whereas Hermione is quite a constant character that perhaps Snape might win on a character basis.” But the experts still feel that one of the series’ Big Three will make it into the finals: Ron Weasley. “Sirius has been such an important role model to Harry, yet Ron has been such an important friend to Harry,” Andrew Sims of MuggleNet said. “I think in this competition, Ron is going to win because: A) popularity, and B) he’s always been by Harry’s side.” Voting for the Final Four continues on the MTV Movies Blog through Sunday, July 10, at midnight. Then the showdown between the last two “Potter” characters left standing begins promptly at 12:01 a.m. ET on Monday, July 11, with the winner being announced later that night during MTV’s live stream of the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” red-carpet premiere in New York City. Jennifer Aniston Couldn’t Say No To ‘Horrible Bosses’

‘This stuff never comes my way,’ she tells MTV News of foul-mouthed dentist. By Kara Warner, with additional reporting by Eric Ditzian Jennifer Aniston Photo: MTV News In looking at the cast of “Horrible Bosses,” it makes sense that funnymen like Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day and Jason Bateman would be attached to a film that revolves around three guys trying to kill their three very horrible bosses. Even supporting players Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx are folks who don’t surprise us in taking on the raunchier territory that comes with an R rating. One castmember’s name that did raise an eyebrow, however, is Jennifer Aniston, known throughout celeb-dom to be one of America’s favorite TV and cinema sweethearts. In “Horrible Bosses,” Aniston is anything but sweet. She plays Julia, a somewhat demented dentist who takes the definition of sexual harassment to whole new levels in her torture of employee Dale (played by Charlie Day). When MTV News caught up with the unexpected scene-stealer recently, we asked her how she decided to take on the foul-mouthed, sexually explicit role. “It wasn’t a ‘might.’ There was never the word ‘might’ [involved in deciding to take the part],” Aniston said. “It was pretty much, ‘How fast can I say yes? I will play this part.’ “I’d never seen anything like this woman, and I couldn’t imagine not doing it,” Aniston explained, adding that she was happy to be approached for a role that is so different from those she is normally offered. “This stuff never comes my way,” she said. Director Seth Gordon said he had Aniston in mind for the role from the get-go, largely because he knew of her comedic chops and wanted to see her play something unlike her iconic “Friends” character, Rachel Green. “I imagined her in that role the first time I read the script, and I can’t explain why, but I just did,” he said. “Obviously, I knew she was a great comedian, and I feel like I’ve always seen that she can do more than she’s offered to do. A lot of stuff seems like a rehashing of Rachel in some way.” When pressed to pick a favorite Aniston moment in the film, Gordon admitted that her first scene takes the cake because it’s the first time you hear her get really raunchy. Without getting too explicit, in the scene, Aniston describes pleasuring herself to “Gossip Girl” star Penn Badgley. “Everyone’s jaws hit the floor,” he recalled. “You can imagine what it is like for her to say that, but when you first hear it, you are stunned. We just cackled. I definitely screwed up some takes when she was on set, because I would just burst out laughing and I couldn’t help it. She’s so funny.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Horrible Bosses.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
