Boi-1da Speaks On The Constant Drake Ghostwriting Rumors, “It Bothers Me Because I’m Close To It”

Read this article:

Source: MARK RALSTON / Getty The biggest takeaway from the beef between Drake and Meek Mill back in 2015 came from Meek claiming that Drake used a ghostwriter. Funkmaster Flex even leaked some reference tracks, which rap fans still bring up this day when people reference pretty much anything about Drizzy or his success. Boi-1da , who produced one of Drake’s most recent hits “God’s Plan” along with a majority of his hits, had an interview with Rap Radar recently, and he defended his frequent collaborator, saying the accusations were blown all the way out of proportion. 1da assures the audience that these rumors are completely incorrect, and also makes sure to emphasize that Drake is one of the most talented artists in the game. He said on the podcast, “I think Drake is literally one of the greatest songwriters of all time, and he writes his own songs…And for someone to try and discredit somebody who I’ve literally seen write songs like he’s writing an essay, it bothers me because I’m close to it. I know he writes his own songs.” He says in the interview that Drake and his rumored ghostwriter Quentin Miller have definitely worked together before, but in a collaborative manner, and Drake was responsible for all of his own work. He continued, “They collaborated on some songs…Quentin is really dope, but somebody just made some fake narrative of Drake writing in sweatshops and all this stuff. It’s just not true man.” Free smoke, free smoke! act @Boi1da respond to @drake ghostwriter rumors #RapRadarPodcast @tidal https://t.co/m1TizIhnD5 pic.twitter.com/C8MRRy8MM5 — brian b.dot miller (@bdotTM) April 10, 2018

Dayanna Volitich: Teacher Exposed as White Nationalist Media Figure

Until last week, Dayanna Volitich was a beloved social studies teacher at Crystal River Middle School outside of Tampa. Tiana Dalichov is a popular podcast host who has made a name for herself preaching hate and bigotry to an audience of like-minded white nationalists. Needless to say, Volitich’s bosses were shocked to find out they’re the same person. According to The Washington Post , Volitich is a self-professed anti-Semite who believes Muslims should be eradicated from the Earth and that whites are genetically superior to other races. For the past year, she lived a double life and carefully concealed her abhorrent worldview from teaching colleagues while actively spreading hate on the internet. Over the weekend, parents in the Citrus County School District were notified that Volitich had been exposed in a piece published by Huffington Post and was promptly fired as a result. “On Friday, March 2, 2018 the Citrus County School District was made aware of a concerning podcast by a Huffington Post reporter. The reporter indicated they believed one of the persons participating in the podcast was a teacher at Crystal River Middle School,” reads a statement on the district’s Facebook page. “The Human Resources department was notified and an investigation was initiated immediately. The teacher has been removed from the classroom and the investigation is ongoing. “Pursuant to Florida Statute an open investigation and materials related to it are exempt from public record and cannot be discussed until the investigation is complete,” the statement concluded. Frighteningly, on her podcast, Volitich spoke of going to great lengths to hide her beliefs, and she encouraged other white nationalists to “infiltrate” America’s public schools as teachers. “I’m pretty hyper aware that [administrators and colleagues] will be watching. They’ll be listening, and so I’m getting a little more underhanded,” Volitich told a guest on her podcast. “I was able to anticipate when they would be there to evaluate, and so I did what I was supposed to do. I danced like a little puppet, and I waited until they were gone,” she added. In a statement released to a Tampa-area media outlet, Volitich claimed that her podcast was a work of satire and was not meant to be taken seriously: “None of the statements released about my being a white nationalist or white supremacist have any truth to them, nor are my political beliefs injected into my teaching of social studies curriculum,” Volitich’s statement reads. “While operating under the Russian pseudonym ‘Tiana Dalichov’ on social media and the Unapologetic Podcast, I employed political satire and exaggeration, mainly to the end of attracting listeners and followers, and generating conversation about the content discussed between myself and my guests.” On her popular Twitter page, Volitich/Dalichov tweeted that she “may disappear for a while” following this week’s revelations. Within 24 hours, the account had been deleted. Volitich’s whereabouts are currently unknown.

Phoebe Robinson Talks Being A ‘Dope Queen’ On New HBO Series

Originally posted here:

Source: Charley Gallay / Getty If there is one moment that best embodies 2 Dope Queens on HBO, it would be when hosts Phoebe Robinson and Jessica Williams invite “hair icon” Sarah Jessica Parker on the show to talk about black hair. The scene is just as awkward and random as you’d expect as you watch Parker take great pain to find the right words to describe what she loves about our hair, except that it doesn’t end with Carrie Bradshaw being dragged off the stage. In fact, the moment highlights Robinson and Williams’s penchant for addressing and dismantling what is considered taboo or controversial to have an honest, thoughtful conversation about sociopolitical matters. Not only does 33-year-old Robinson welcome the dialogue, she encourages it. Taking her and Williams’s wildly popular podcast to primetime television was a decision that at first made her nervous, then excited her as she prepared to headline a variety series unlike any other. With 2 Dope Queens , the Ohio native is helping normalize the presence of smart, fabulous, hilarious black women in late night TV to talk about things from “which white people need to apologize to us first?” to the wonderful moment when Robinson’s #Britishwhitebae offered to lotion her “ashy” feet. And that’s not all—they bring along a dazzling array of diverse stand-up talent including Baron Vaughn, Aperna Nancherla, Michelle Buteau, and Sheng Wang to offer their own candid observations on the world around them. Robinson jumped on the phone to talk to us about the new series, navigating social media, and disrupting the white boys club in comedy: HB: Congrats on 2 Dope Queens ! How important for you was it to create a positive, inclusive environment that was also woke AF for TV? Phoebe Robinson : I think because Jessica started out in improv and I was doing stand-up two years ago, we would see very white, very male faces. With the stand-up portion of the 2 Dope Queens special, I just noticed that these comedians don’t have the attention they deserve. It’s important for us that not only are we providing a platform for ourselves, but for other people who we think are amazing. I think a lot of people in comedy, the gatekeepers, are like, “oh, we don’t know how to find diverse talent. We don’t know how to find people who are different.” I always hate that, like you’re not looking at all the amazing people around you who are worthy and valuable and are hilarious. With Queens , it’s just been easy to book this. Everyone’s great. HB: What made you want to move the podcast to TV? PR : We were doing the podcast for a while, and we all thought we were going to do well, but we’re also so surprised to see how much people really enjoy not only the chemistry between Jessica and I, but also the stand-up and our interview style with guests. And one night we were just like, “I think that this could be a really fun TV show. I think this could be a variety show.” I told Jessica that, and she agreed. And we rounded everyone up and said, “this could be something different that hasn’t quite been on TV before.” I must give HBO credit, because ever since they’ve been around they’ve always had a keen eye on what’s different, what’s an audience that’s deprived of content and how can we be a facilitator of that. And I think they saw something with Jessica and I that was along the lines of Insecure and all this other stuff coming out in which people of color are not only in front of the camera but also behind the camera. They were just immediately on board. HB: Did you feel any pressure to respond to a certain political moment in pop culture? PR : I think the show existing is its own statement. But I think whatever Jessica and I talk about the show—whether it’s racism, or sexism in New York, or even something light like celebrities we have crushes on—we’re constantly bringing ourselves to the stage. Our stand-ups like John Early are very involved with what’s going on in the world, so I think the easy part is finding smart, intelligent people who will execute the way they do best. I don’t think it’s been tough for us to do it. I think we’re just grateful to have people around us who want to talk about these things. Jessica and Phoebe Source: Amy Pearl / Amy Pearl HB: You seem to have a very devoted and diverse audience that appreciate your unapologetic blackness no matter what. PR : If something is created by a straight white dude, did they think about how it was going to be relatable to other people? Was Jerry Seinfeld to make his show relatable? That’s just not a question he gets asked. So, when Jessica and I got into this, we want to do what we find funny. I just want to make her laugh on stage, and vice versa. I think this notion that anyone who doesn’t represent the patriarchy as we know it, they’re considered “other” or hard to understand. We’re all human, even if I’m talking about ashiness in the black community. So even if certain audiences don’t understand the experiences because they haven’t had them, I think they can empathize with people. They can really understand the comedy of it. I think we’ve gotten to a place where white people watch Insecure . Asian people watch Jane, the Virgin . Good is good, and I think it’s great that that could be celebrated. HB: That reminds me of the moment when you brought on Sarah Jessica Parker to talk about black hair. PR : She’s not the only person that’s scared about black hair. I think that’s why a lot of people touch it, because they don’t know how to respond to it. So, it was cool to have that moment and have her be vulnerable and say, “no, I don’t know anything about black hair. No one’s ever talked about it with me. Let’s get into it.” It was cool because the audience was nervous, and Jessica and I were like, “This is fine. She’s asking questions so that she could be more knowledgeable.” I wish moments like that would happen more in real life. HB: As soon as that moment happened, I immediately looked at SJP and thought to myself, “what in the world is she going to say?” It was a very pure moment when you didn’t know what to expect and she was obviously curious and complimentary about it. To see that moment in this era of black hair is very indicative of what the show is. PR : Yeah, I think instead of everyone being nervous to talk about different cultures, let’s just like get into it and open it up. When things are no longer a mystery, then everyone could be treated with respect as opposed to not acknowledging it, so they don’t say anything stupid. I’m glad that you really like that moment, because that to me is one of my favorite moments from the taping as well.   HB: I think it also just allowed space for her to say something that she might have regretted later, especially important given the way in which we engage in this reactionary social media era. You were encouraging her to say the first thing that came into her mind because it was not a space in which you would judge her. PR : Yeah, it’s like “I want to try to say this, but I might say the wrong thing. I’m not trying to offend anyone. I’m trying to find the tools to equip myself to discuss this in the first place. I think in this era where everyone’s like, “I’m woke,” I’m like, you don’t know everything. No one knows everything. I don’t know everything about the LGBTQ community, so I’m learning. It’s like, I don’t know this thing and I want to know about it and become smarter about it. It’s creating a space where people aren’t snapping at someone when they get one thing wrong. Like today, I saw someone I know on Instagram post something simply stating, “Hey women, make sure to get your cervix checked” like a PSA. And someone immediately wrote, “you know, not all women have cervixes.” You know what she was trying to do! And then it turned into she’s being exclusionary, but this person’s trying to raise awareness. People are so quick to find a flaw in what people say without realizing that this person is trying to affect positive change. HB: You are a comedienne, showrunner, movie star, and a New York Times bestselling author. What would you like to conquer next? PR : I would love to keep working in TV. I would love to have my own TV show. I would love to do more movies. I’d love to write and direct like Ava Duvernay and Jordan Peele. If they can do it, I can do it. I’m working on my second book right now titled, Everything’s Trash but It’s Okay . So maybe do some stuff in publishing, maybe have my own imprint and publish people of color, queer people, women who I think don’t get the same opportunities because publishing is also overwhelmingly white. I’d also like to be more politically and socially active. I do some work with the Red campaign and would love to continue doing that because while it’s nice to get in hair and makeup and promote myself, I do think I have a responsibility to have it not all be about me. I want to use my platform for something good. 2 Dope Queens premiered on HBO Friday, February 2. Kailyn Lowry & Dominique Potter: It’s OVER!

It can be tough to keep track of everything that's going on in Kailyn Lowry's life these days. Between reality TV, her podcast, and a third memoir on the way, Kail's professional life couldn't be more jam-packed. And believe it or not, her love life is just as hectic. As recently as last month,  Kailyn was dating Dominique Potter and gushing about her new girlfriend in interviews. Now, the relationship has come to an end … and it seems it wasn't an amicable split: 1. Happier Times Kail and Dom hit it off right away and moved VERY quickly. After just a couple months of dating, Potter moved to Delaware in order to be closer to Lowry. 2. Meeting the Kids Moving to a new state was obviously a major sign of commitment, but perhaps an even better indication of just how serious Kail and Dom had become was the fact that Potter spent a considerable amount of time with Lowry’s kids. 3. A Major Step Lowry has stated on several occasions that she would only introduce love interests to her children if she were fairly certain they would be a part of her life for the long haul. So does she regret introducing Potter to her sons? Is the fact that things changed so abruptly a sign of an ugly breakup? 4. It’s Official Though Kail hasn’t made an announcement yet, a source confirms to Radar Online that she’s definitely no longer dating Potter. 5. The Single Life “She’s single,” one source told the outlet in no uncertain terms when asked about Kailyn’s love life. 6. What Went Wrong? So why would Kail and Dominique call it off so abruptly when things seem to be going so well? It seems that’s a question with several valid answers… View Slideshow

Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra Talk Addiction: Are They OK?!

If you're familiar with Catelynn and Tyler from Teen Mom OG, then you probably know that they've had plenty of experience with addiction. They've never gone through it themselves — though Catelynn has hinted at being dependent on marijuana in the past, and they were arrested in their teen years for possessing weed. But unfortunately, they spent much of their childhoods watching their parents go down that dark, scary road. Catelynn's mother, April, has struggled with alcoholism, and Tyler's father, Butch, once admitted on camera that he loved cocaine more than he loved his own son. Thankfully, April is sober these days, and she's been able to play a much more positive role in Catelynn's life. But Butch just hasn't been able to maintain his own sobriety for any real length of time. As we saw in earlier seasons of the show, he was released from prison just before Catelynn and Tyler got married, and he was out for just over a year. Then, in late 2016, he relapsed, violated his probation , and was sent back. He was released after a few months, but, as always, it's hard for him to stay out of trouble. Tyler really delves deep into that struggle in this heart-wrenching sneak peek for next week's episode of Teen Mom OG. As the clip begins, the couple explains to a producer that they're still working on fixing up their new house, and that Butch is building a fence for them. “Apparently he destroyed my childhood,” Tyler jokes. “I need a fence. That's all I ask of you now.” He's joking, at least a little bit, but there's some sad truth behind it — we'll never forget his story of how he was so overwhelmed with everything that he attempted to hang himself when he was just 12 years old. “Speaking of which,” he adds now, “I need to talk to him about going to rehab.” Catelynn points out that he'd said before that he wanted to wait to have the rehab talk with Butch until he was less angry with him, and he says that he's realized that he's actually always going to be angry with him. She agrees with him — she says that with her own mother, she feels angry a lot too, and she feels that it's that way with many children of addicts. She even says that children of addicts have a right to feel angry with their parents, which is fair. They they have this whole sweet talk about how they created a safe space together, so on and so forth, and that's adorable and precious, it really is. But does Butch ever go to rehab?! Watch the video below to hear Cate and Tyler's real talk on addiction:

Jerry Van Dyke Dies; Emmy-Nominated Actor Was 86

Jerry Van Dyke, a veteran actor and the younger brother of iconic comedian Dick Van Dyke, died on Friday afternoon at his ranch in Arkansas. He was 86 years old. According to Jerry’s wife, per TMZ, the actor passed away with her by his side.  The exact cause of death is unknown at this time, but the couple had been in a car accident two years ago and Van Dyke’s health had sadly gone downhill ever since. A native of Danville, Illinois, Van Dyke got his start on television by making appearances on The Dick Van Dyke Show, the beloved sitcom that starred his real-life older sibling. He also made appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and The Judy Garland Show early on in his career. Prior to dedicating his professional life to acting, Jerry pursued stand-up comedy as a young man and performed at military bases around the globe. Van Dyke has a very long and impressive resume, but he’s likely best known for his role as Assistant Coach Luther Horatio Van Dam on the TV sitcom Coach, which earned him four Emmy Award nominations. The series ran from 1989 to 1997. It was anchored by Craig T. Nelson. Coach centered on the fictional Minnesota State University Screaming Eagles and it often featured guest appearances by professional football figures such as Troy Aikman, Dick Butkus and Jerry Jones, as well as actors like Lucy Liu, Drew Carey and Mary Hart. Van Dyke’s Luther was an assistant coach who was known for his bumbling ways and occasional moments of pathos. This is a photo of him from the show: His final small screen appearance took place on ABC’s hit show The Middle in 2015. Well aware of his brother’s enormous fame, Jerry said the following to USA Today back in the 1990s: “I was always known as Dick Van Dyke’s brother and the guy that did My Mother the Car. Now people know me that never knew me before, that don’t even know Dick. That’s really a thrill.” He maintained this kind of sense of humor throughout his career. “If I had it all to do over again, I definitely would have turned things down,” he told The Associated Press in 1994, adding: “Almost everything I did!”  And then there was this, to The Toronto Star that same year: “I’m getting sick of Dick riding on my coattails. I just can’t prop up his career forever.” Jerry Van Dyke is survived by two kids and his wife. May he rest in peace. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2017: In Memoriam
