Source: Aaron Davidson / Getty Sunday, July 29th marked the 10 year anniversary of John Legend ’s song “Green Light” featuring André 3000 . To celebrate the occasion, John’s wife Chrissy Teigen decided to keep it real and share a story about a “jealousy-fueled meltdown” related to the video: Fun fact, I had a jealously-fueled meltdown visiting this video set and made an asshole out of myself to a large group of people. https://t.co/SiE3h9aisY — christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) July 30, 2018 Oh you want to know more, do you? Let me try to remember. 10 years is a long time! — christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) July 30, 2018 Ok after a brief refresh with john, I have pieced together small bits of information — christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) July 30, 2018 Through a series of tweets, Teigen exposed the jealous rage of her 22-year-old self, revealing she got envious to the point of tears during the “Green Light” video shoot. It all started when a group of guys began teasing Chrissy about how beautiful some of the women on set with John were. And the rest, is history.
T he arrival of summer generates excitement. But it could also bring challenges for both parents and educators. Many students experience a loss in math learning during the summer months known commonly as “summer slide.” Students from middle-class families may not be as affected as they have access to more resources to make up for the learning loss. However, those from lower-income backgrounds could experience significant losses, particularly in math and reading. Researchers point to the summer slide as a contributing factor in the persistent academic achievement gap between students from lower-income backgrounds and their middle-class peers. But, does race also conflate with class, when it comes to summer slide? What does summertime mean for black children and the parents and caregivers who care for them? We are education researchers who are black and parents to two black children – one in elementary school and another in preschool. If the U.S. imagination constructs summer as a time for swimming, free play, baseball and lazy days on the beach, it has never played out this way in our home. We feel the weight of summer – both for its limitations and its possibilities. To us, the summer is less a time to focus solely on fun and more of what we call the “summer soar.” Summer goals for black parents The term “summer soar” is not taken from research or policy studies. We use it to reflect the triple burden that some parents of color – in our case, black parents – could endure during the summer months. For these parents, summertime provides time to accomplish three goals: (1) reinforce what was learned in the previous year, (2) get a head start on the upcoming year and, most importantly, (3) supplement valuable yet missing curriculum knowledge generally not offered in traditional schools that reflects students’ racial and cultural identities. Let’s look at what we mean by missing curriculum knowledge. We offer an example of this in a study we conducted with a researcher at Sacramento State College, Julian Vasquez-Heilig . The study examined how culture and race were addressed in the most recently adopted 11th grade U.S. history Texas state standards. Findings highlighted that topics in the social studies standards did not fully address the contributions of people of color in the U.S. In the case of black people, much of the focus centered only on cultural contributions and not on the other ways black people contributed to the U.S. narrative. Added to this was the tendency to give partial attention to the legacy of racism. This history of U.S. racism was not discussed as foundational to the development and maintenance of the country. Black students’ mis-education This is not unique to Texas nor found in the area of social studies alone. Education researchers have long acknowledged how official K-12 school curriculum and approaches to teaching fail to affirm black students’ cultural identities. They also reinforce the belief that black people have not made any contributions to the U.S. society. As far back as the turn of the 20th century, notable scholars including W.E.B. Du Bois , Carter G. Woodson and Anna Julia Cooper addressed the problems and limitations of schooling for African-Americans . As a result, black students run the risk of experiencing what historian Carter G. Woodson called “mis-education.” Mis-education is a process where school knowledge helps to foster a sense of contempt or disregard for one’s own histories and experiences, regardless of the level of education attained. So, for us as parents and educators, the “summer soar” is not just about further developing our son’s academics. It is also about fostering a consciousness to help ward off the subtle effects of mis-education – a concern shared by many black families. Why it is uniquely burdensome We recognize that black parents are not the only ones worried about their children’s academic achievement and social development. Families, in general, are critical about the overreliance on standardized testing that makes school less a place for meaningful engagement . Yet what makes the “summer slide” and as a consequence the “summer soar” experience of black parents uniquely burdensome is the context in which it occurs. Along with the curriculum and teaching problems black children encounter in schools around race and culture, there is a legacy of positioning black males and black children in troubling, dehumanizing ways. For example, scholars note that black children, specifically black boys, are often viewed as mature and “adult-like.” Their behaviors and experiences are not seen as part of the normal arc of childhood development. Scholars find that in this “adultification” process, black children are not given the allowance of childhood innocence . These “deficit-oriented” perspectives are found not only in academic literature, but also in public policy, popular media and everyday conversations. A contemporary reflection of this is found in the call for the popular #BlackLivesMatter movement. Being black in the summer To be clear: We don’t feel we are approaching the “summer slide” or our “summer soar” from a place of unfounded anxiety or as parents too focused on their child’s education. Black people have been and continue to be dealt with in schools and society in deeply problematic ways. Just consider the growing number of black families that are choosing to homeschool their children. In a study that examined the perspectives of 74 African-American homeschoolers in the U.S., researchers Ama Mazama and Garvey Lundy found that the second most important reason that black parents chose to homeschool , right behind concerns with quality of education, was to protect against the racism found in traditional school settings. Being black in the summer (or anytime really) is not easy. The challenge black families face is navigating an educational context that requires excelling in mainstream school settings, while buffering against the very same education systems that deny one’s humanity. This summer, like all summers for us, is filled with ambitious goals. We want to help our rising second grader memorize multiplication facts, advance his reading level and improve his writing. But we also want to introduce him to poetry and literature by black authors, teach him about ancient African civilizations and expose him to the concepts of fairness and justice as key to the black struggle in the U.S. Our task is not easy. But it is our reality – one that we share with countless others – that goes unrecognized in the popular discussions around “summer slide” and the idyllic dream of a lazy summer. It’s hard to believe that it’s been more than a month since XXXTentacion was shot dead in Miami . Earlier this month, police found one of XXXTentacion’s killers . Though police do not yet have all of the suspects in custody, prosecutors are moving forward. They have already issued indictments. Let’s take a look at the details. One of the alleged shooters was Michael Boatright, who was arrested earlier this month. Trayvon Newsome is believed by police to have been the toher trigger man. Newsome is currently wanted by police. Two other suspects are Dedrick Williams, who is in custody, and Robert Allen, for whom police are still searching. TMZ reports that all four suspects in XXXTentacion’s murder were indicted by a grand jury On top of the obvious murder charge, all four men are also charged with armed robbery using a firearm. According tot he Associated Press, Dedrick Williams was spotted on surveillance cameras and identified. Though fearful of being labeled a snitch in prison for speaking to police, he did tell investigators that he did not know in advance that XXXTentacion would be robbed. It was apparently Boatright and Newsome who carried out the actual robbery, or so investigators have been told. Of course, felony murder rules mean that co-conspirators in crimes that result in murder are all indicted for murder, regardless of which individual did the killing. XXXTentacion had been looking at motorcycles just before he was shot to death in an apparent armed robbery. The rapper was only 20 years old, and had some very passionate young fans. He also apparently acted as something of a mentor to younger people in the business. 14-year-old Danielle Bregoli, who launched her record-breaking music career after insulting Dr. Phil on television, felt a very close bond to XXXTentacion. Their last conversation, just days before his death, was an argument in which she told him that she never wanted to speak with him again. Danielle will always regret her final words to him , she says. XXXTentacion was also infamous for an alleged beating of a gay man, and for being accused of horribly abusing his girlfriend Geneva Ayala to the point that she had to have reconstructive surgery on her face due to damage to her skull. The shocking descriptions of what is said to have done to her during their relationship amount to torture. Unfortunately, because of this, his ex is reviled by some of his more ardent fans. Though his abused girlfriend just wants him to rest in peace , some fans objected to her presence at a vigil for him, and kicked her out. Afterwards, they burned what she had left in his memory. XXXTentacion continues to be mourned by many of his fans. Some of them are so young that this he is the first celebrity musician whom they’ve lost. Some say that a video made shortly before the rapper’s passing predicted his own death . In fact, some sources even say that XXXTentacion talked about wanting to die young like some of the great rappers of the ’90s. Hopefully, the people who were in his life will get a sense of closure once his murder trial draws to a close. For now, it is just beginning. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2018: In Memoriam
If you're a follower of all things Teen Mom , then by now, you've probably caught wind of the biggest development to the franchise since Farrah Abraham got fired for being Farrah Abraham. We're talking, of course, about Bristol Palin joining the cast of Teen Mom OG . The news has already prompted several important questions: Will Bristol be able to deliver the ratings? Does the average MTV viewer even remember the 2008 election? Does seeing Russia from one's house count as collusion? And, of course, how does the rest of the cast feel about Bristol's casting ? Now, it turns out the answer to that last query could create some serious problems for the show's producers: 1. New Girl Bristol is one of the most famous former teen moms in the country, but the news of her casting came as a total shock, nonetheless. 2. Classified Info MTV reportedly went to great lengths to keep the news under wraps, even going so far as to refer to Bristol by a codename in meetings and internal documents. 3. The Maci Connection An insider revealed yesterday that Maci Bookout was directly linked to the decision to cast Bristol. 4. A Failed Gambit It seems that at one point, Maci refused to continue filming unless producers assured her that they would no longer feature her first baby daddy, Ryan Edwards, on the show. Apparently, she didn’t want her eldest son to see his father struggling with addiction on TV. 5. Whoops The move backfired, however, as producers decided to continue filming Ryan while simultaneously seeking out a suitable replacement for Maci. 6. Enter Bristol And just like that, Bristol wound up joining the cast. Producers decided to keep Maci on the show, and in an ironic twist, Palin might wind up giving Bookout exactly what she wanted … View Slideshow
n Today marks the release of Ebenezer ’s new track “ 53 Sundays ”. Listen HERE . The song is a statement in itself, showcasing not only Ebenezer ’s musical talent but also his lyrical, storytelling abilities. He’s not afraid of sharing his views and reflecting on the reality of the world he grew up in. Ebenezer ’s distinctive sound shines through the track – despite hailing from London it’s uniquely universal, taking listeners on a poignant journey. “ Sometimes we must acknowledge that in order to do something good we might have to do something bad. Religion wasn’t going to put food on the table and money in the pockets of those I cared about, so I had to get it by an ‘any means necessary’ attitude. So excuse me if I miss the corruption that goes on in the churches – I’ve got some hustling to do,” says Ebenezer. “53 Sundays” follows Ebenezer’s recent single “When I Call Em” featuring A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie . Listen HERE . Ebenezer has been steadily making a name for himself, working with artists such as ADP , B Young , Stefflon Don , Jeremih , Ty Dolla $ign and Craig David . In 2017, he ushered in new fans through a string of releases: “ F**K IT ”, “ Survival ” and “ Clich é ”. He followed up in February 2018 with the release of his debut EP Bad Romantic . The record put Ebenezer against himself, uncovering both his romantic and “ savage ” tendencies and proving that his creative artistry is as intense as his delivery. Ebenezer ’s forthcoming project is due out this summer.
Black Ink Chicago: Ryan Henry’s Long Term Situationship Makes Viewers Cringe If you were watching last night’s episode of Black Ink Chicago , you would have seen Ryan gift Rachel a brand new Benz. The two claim to have dated for “15 years”, share two children (one biologically) and run a business together. But, they aren’t “committed.” Rachel’s family and even Ryan’s mama is even looking at them funny at this point. Are you guys “together” together, or just raising kids together? It’s confusing. Ryan gathered both their families around for this?? And then says he’s going to take his time committing to Rachel, because she needed a Benz and folks are calling it BS. I’m not understanding why some folks are saying that Ryan and Rachel are taking their time. It’s been 15 years, how much time do you need? #BlackInkCrewCHI pic.twitter.com/bwPOYouq2c — Lauren (@_OoohLaaLaa_) July 19, 2018 Where do YOU stand on a 15 year relationship with no commitment??? Hit the flips and see hilarious takes from fans on Ryan and Rachel’s confusing casual union.
Nothing should really surprise Teen Mom 2 viewers at this point. Anyone may feud with anyone else at any time and, as has been made apparent, anyone may hook up with anyone else at any time. Heck, Javi Marroquin burned through Briana DeJesus, Kailyn Lowry and current baby mama Lauren Comeau in a matter of months. Now, we've received word that Lowry has run back her romance with third baby daddy Chris Lopez, despite some very harsh words exchanged between the two over the past several months. Heck, Lopez exchanged a few harsh words about Lowry's on-air actions not long before this reconciliation rumor spread around the Internet. Scroll down to find out why at least one source believes Kailyn and Chris have found their way back into each's others arms and beds… 1. Wait… They’re Back Together? After this week’s Teen Mom 2?!? We can understand why many folks could have this reaction, considering Kailyn and some friends took little Lux on a trip to Hawaii during the July 16, 2018 episode and Lopez was PISSED about it. 2. Lopez vs. Lowry During the vacation, Lopez allegedly tried to contact Lowry often, basically accusing her of stealing their kid away without telling him about it. “Chris texted me. Chris saw that I was in Hawaii and now all of a sudden he’s asking where his son is,” Kailyn told her pals. 3. How Dare He?!? “But before I came here, he never asked me one time how his son is doing,” Lowry continued. “So now he wants to know and now all a sudden he wants to see his son this week while I’m here. That’s horrible.” 4. Sierra Agrees! Lowry’s close friend, Sierra, was on the trip and took her pal’s side. “He’s seen him twice,” she said of Lopez. “Acting like he’s a parent when he doesn’t give two sh-ts. And now, all of a sudden, he wants to see the kid. He’s trash.” 5. Excuse Me, Kailyn?!? Lopez was watching all of this unfold on the episode. And while it was filmed many months ago, he still blasted his baby mama and her friends, mocking the way she once referred to him as an Instagram parent . 6. Tell Us More, Chris! The “bird” in this case is Sierra, who Lopez clearly does not appreciate speaking so ill of him in front of millions of viewers. View Slideshow
Fans have roasted Derick Dillard for everything from begging for money from fans to his vitriolic attacks on trans teen Jazz Jennings , the latter of which got him fired. Now, Derick is trying to make himself respectable — even in the secular world. Folks, Derick is headed to law school . Do you want this dude as your attorney? Are you one of the cyber sleuths who noticed that Derick has been following a series of new Twitter accounts lately? If not, you’re probably better off. He’s been following Twitter accounts related to the LSAT and the Bar Exam. Which, normally, a person only does if they want to become a lawyer. A Facebook page (we would not characterize it as a fan site) called Duggar Family News made the announcement . “Derick wi ll be attending The School of Law at the University of Arkansas this fall,” the post reveals. Their page has been a pretty reliable source of info on the Duggars. Coupled with Derick’s Twitter activities, it’s pretty convincing. “Derick is giving up missioning,” the page continues. “Whatever he did at Cross Church, and God, to attend a secular law school.” Obviously, the bit about giving up his faith is hyperbolic. “The cost of law school is $16,000 a year,” the page continues. “Which I assume either Jim Bob is paying for …” “Or,” the post hypothesizes. “He’s got some conservative evangelical group paying his way in hopes that if Derick actually becomes a lawyer he will be forced to work for their causes.” The post suggests that those causes might include “overturning all equal rights laws that greatly benefit deserving human beings. ” That does sound kind of harsh but, given Derick Dillard’s track record, it sounds like something that he would be interested in doing. The page openly asks: “Can Derick make it through the rigors of law school?” “The idiot,” the post continues. “Couldn’t learn Spanish after one-on-one tutoring and living in a Spanish speaking country!” Attaining true, convincing fluency takes a lot of work. But a lot of people were disappointed by Derick’s lack of progress. “He can’t follow simple rules when it comes to posting copyright images or running a fundraiser page,” the post observes. To be entirely fair, a lot of celebrities seem confused about that. Perhaps attending law school will make him more mindful. “Derick,” the post continues. “Lives in a bubble of false news and facts which will be put to the test when secular law professors get their hands on him.” Sadly, real life law school professors are rarely as exciting as they are on How To Get Away With Murder . “My bet,” the post writes. “Is that he lasts almost a year and then suddenly gets another calling from God.” “Next year,” the page predicts. “He’ll be working as a clerk at Walmart.” Duggar Family News might be a great page for leaked info, but we don’t know that we share their vision for the future. Law school may be secular, but there are a number of religious angles for a practising attorney. One, of course, is that some larger churches and religious organizations need lawyers. They can help with everything from major lawsuits to making simple arrangements. Another, as the Facebook page suggests, is that Derick might — perhaps of his own volition — work hard to combat any progress made for equal rights for certain groups. Remember, Derick Dillard says to not make cakes for gay couples . He also claims that accepting transgender children for who they are is “child abuse.” There is another possibility. Depending upon how you feel about Derick, this could be worse. For some, attending law school and even becoming a lawyer is just a means to an end — that end being a serious political career. Source: Jeff Kravitz / Getty Many might remember talk show host Bill Maher referring to himself as a “house n*gger” back in June 2017 , which caused a major media backlash. Over a year later, the dust has somewhat settled, however the ripple effects of the incident are still being felt thanks to one lawsuit. According to The Hollywood Reporter , Shonitria Anthony was an editor at the Los Angeles-based news site ATTN: around the same time Maher made his controversial statements. The site is all about raising social consciousness for millennials. However, Anthony wasn’t feeling too comfortable at the publication after Bill’s words, considering he is one of ATTN:’s investors. She organized her Black co-workers and asked for a company meeting regarding Maher’s use of the N-word. She also pointed out that there weren’t any people of color in upper management and suggested there be more represented, especially in the human resources department. Soon after Anthony brought these things up, she says she was subjected to adverse employment actions that eventually led to her termination in August. In March 2018 , Anthony filed a lawsuit against ATTN: and its top executives, claiming they fired her out of retaliation for her outspokenness on race. ATTN: says Anthony’s firing had nothing to do with this, but she was let go as part of a business strategy to shift to video. After a Los Angeles Superior Court heard Anthony’s case, they ruled that she has probability of prevailing on her retaliation and discrimination claims. The judge argued that she submitted enough evidence on how she experienced setbacks at the office almost immediately after she protested conditions. This led the judge to believe that Anthony’s firing was done with “a discriminatory intent.” Now ATTN: is heading to a California appeals court where they’ll have to establish the legitimacy of their actions. Meanwhile, Anthony continues to seek damages for mental and emotional distress, lost wages, and punitive damages.
Delicia Cordon Moves Out Of LeSean McCoy’s House After Attack LeSean McCoy seems to have gotten his wish. His estranged girlfriend, Delicia Cordon, and her children have moved out of his home. If you’ll recall, Delicia was brutally pistol-whipped inside of LeSean’s home last week, and she hinted from the start that her ex-baller boo was behind orchestrating the attack. LeSean had apparently tried to have his friends and family illegally evict Delicia while she was out of town, and later had an associate file legal documents to have a court remove her from the home. She was attacked just one day before they were set to meet in court over the matter. Now, TMZ reports that moving trucks were spotted outside of LeSean’s home. Sources tell them that Delicia has relocated to a home she considers safer, and has private security on the premises. LeSean vehemently denies he was involved in the incident, and has yet to be charged with a crime. Delicia maintains that LeSean orchestrated the attack — despite reports floating around the internet that she was “no longer sure” that her ex placed an order for the robbery. She Either way, we’re sure she’s better off simply moving out at this point. Getty
