Amy Roloff is once again facing heat for… …. posing for photos with her long-time boyfriend? Sadly, yes. For this singular reason. As we’ve documented on The Hollywood Gossip for several weeks, fans of Little People, Big World can’t seem to fully accept Amy’s romance with Chris Marek. The two have been together for nearly all of 2017 and Marek has given social media users no reason to doubt his intentions when it comes to Roloff. But this doesn’t mean they haven’t gone in search of some on their own. Just over a month ago, for instance, Roloff shared what appears to be a simple, basic, harmless, cute picture of herself and Marek. Yet a few followers didn’t take it that way. “Big mistake, believe me, Amy can do better [than] him, he’s just in it for the game [and] getting his face out there,” wrote one critic as an example. What prompted this line of thinking? We truly have no idea. But it forced Amy to come out and defend Marek, as she even took a shot at her own reality show in the process: “Try not to make quick assumptions about anyone from what you see on an edited show.” Then, just a few days ago, Roloff again posted some sweet pictures of herself and Marek, only to be told by some troll that she should “dump” Chris and ” find someone new .” We remain confounded by all this disdain – but also almost impressed by the lengths users will go to in order to try and prove their misguided points. Take the very first photo above, for example. This is what Amy wrote as a caption to it: What a great week bf Christmas week with getting together w/ good friends! This time of year reminds me What is beautiful about life – the gift God gave to us in Jesus, moments w/ friends, people you love, family, gathering around the table sharing , making moments to remember. Have a good week ahead everyone. And, amazingly/hilariously, this is what someone wrote in response in the Comments section of Instagram: “Amy, Chris nearly blocked your head out! “Your[sic] in love… but doubt he is! More in love with himself and the show. Please Amy watch for the red flags! Don’t want to see you get hurt!” Yes, this person is accusing Marek of purposely using his head to block Roloff’s face in the aforementioned image. This person is then insinuating that this is a sign Marek is only dating Amy because she’s rich and famous. The argument is obviously preposterous simply on its own. But let’s break it down a bit, shall we? First, Amy isn’t all that rich and famous. We don’t mean that as any kind of insult; it’s simply a fact. We’re sure she’s doing perfectly well for herself, but we can’t imagine she’s banking anything deep into seven figures per year or anything. Second, Marek is a very successful real estate agent and has been for years. He has no need to dig for any gold. But try telling this to abusers of the World Wide Web. “What a delusional person she is,” one hater actually wrote about Amy, adding: “Left the old short man for a tall homeless unemployed tall ugly man… split after she took all of his money and property.” SIGH . I woke up ready to write about the reconciliation between formerly estranged friends Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas. The video of their tearful hug popped up on social media and I thought it would be the thing that gave me the biggest emotional reaction of the day. Then news broke that Combat Jack died. Combat Jack, real name Reggie Osse, is an icon. His start as an attorney for early Jay-Z and Noreagaa gave way to writing about Hip-Hop and eventually launching a podcast network that put black voices at the forefront. Combat has always been and will always be known as one of those people who only cared about helping others and doing what he can to better people’s lives. The “take his shirt off of his back” cliche goes around when people pass, but it was absolutely true about Combat. The last time I saw Combat was A3C here in Atlanta. We’d known each other for years and kept in touch mostly through social media, bumping into one another on occasion. The conversation we had at A3C took me by surprise. He gave me a pep talk about my writing, my life and purpose. He spoke with his patented enthusiasm and intensity that’s only genuine. The talk boosted my confidence and sense of purpose. I went home and woke my wife up to tell her what Combat said to me. I’ve thought about that conversation a lot in the last couple of months and I understand why Combat spoke with so much passion: he cared so much about black people being as vocal as possible. He wanted our voices heard and dedicated his life to it. I’ve found myself reaching two months into the past trying to hold on to that moment again, wanting to relive it more vividly with each passing minute. So when our conversation ended, we dapped up and gave the generic phrase that doesn’t seem so generic anymore: “it’s all love.” Love. Combat is at the front of my mind but I still can’t help but think about Magic and Isiah. Because it’s all about the power of love. Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas used to be best friends. They came up in the NBA together in the 80s, dreaming of greatness. They used to embrace before each game and celebrate one another even as competitors. They defied the silly masculine notions that opponents had to have nasty attitudes towards one another off the court. Then their relationship deteriorated in one of the nastiest ways imaginable. Thomas denied those allegations, citing the fact he fought to allow Magic to still play after the diagnosis in the wake of players like Karl Malone protesting otherwise. And Thomas’ pre-game kiss on the cheek with Magic in the 1992 All-Star game was a pivotal cultural moment dispelling many of the myths about HIV at the time. Nobody knows the truth and after enough time passes, the truth doesn’t matter nearly as much as the pain that scabs up over it. Now, decades after their split, Johnson and Thomas have come face to face. The video that NBA TV released of the two crying as they get over their past issues has captivated social media for its raw emotion. For me, it’s a wakeup call. We live in an era where cutting people off is celebrated. And, oftentimes, cutting off toxic people in the short term is necessary and helpful. But it can also be addicting. The healthy balance between cutting people off and healing often tilts towards the easier option of just shutting someone out forever. Especially for men. Because eliminating someone who I feel has wronged me is easier than looking that person in the eye and telling him or her that I was hurt. It’s just easier to never speak again, burying memories and feelings away and fighting them when they dare to return. Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas fought through that desire to hold on to their pride and anger. Instead, they chose love. Hearing Magic’s voice crack and seeing Isiah’s breakdown showed me how much they missed each other. They didn’t have to push those emotions to the surface again, but they chose to. Because love is a choice, and can be the hardest choice to make when given a bevy of different options. And that’s why I keep thinking about Magic, Isiah and Combat together today. Because they all chose love – especially now in a world where it’s so hard to make that choice. Magic and Isiah chose to fight through their pain to love each other again. And Combat Jack lived his life by loving on us every single day. He made love his life’s work by working for us and with us. God don’t make mistakes and the two reminders of unending love are shining brighter than the hate the world is piling on us. It’s the message Combat spread and it won’t die as long as the people he’s touched are around to spread it. Rest In Peace.

There was a time when Maci Bookout and Ryan Edwards were among the most civil former couples in the entire Teen Mom franchise. We think it's safe to say those days are done. Maci and Ryan are feuding over custody of their son, Bentley , and it looks as though the conflict is doomed to get uglier before it (hopefully) gets resolved. As is so often the case in public custody disputes, a fair amount of shade-throwing is going on, and the latest comes from Maci, who says she's very happy that she decided to cut Ryan loose so many years ago. 1. The Beginning There was a time when Ryan and Maci actually seemed like a stable couple by Teen Mom standards. That era didn’t last very long. 2. A Bitter Breakup Ryan and Maci have gone through periods of relatively amicable co-parenting, but they’ve also experienced plenty of rough patches. The one they’re in now being a prime example… 3. “See You in Court!” A recent episode of Teen Mom saw Mackenzie and Bentley visiting Ryan on Father’s Day. He vaguely threatened his ex with legal action. 4. Safety Concerns Maci is reportedly concerned about Ryan’s ability to create a safe and stable environment for Bentley. Given his struggles in recent months, it’s not hard to see why she might feel that way. 5. Ryan at Rock Bottom Ryan’s drug addiction was so severe at one point that he passed out while driving to his own wedding. As you may have heard, Jay-Z has been working on a documentary about Trayvon Martin, a teen whose life was cut tragically short. Interviews are a normal part of any documentary, but George Zimmerman’s response to producers interviewing people in his life has been … to threaten to kill Jay-Z and feed him to an alligator . We suppose that when you’ve already gotten away with murder, merely threatening to kill people must seem like no big deal. You know, when George Zimmerman got off for killing Trayvon Martin, he felt invincible. The fact that he’s still free after threatening to kill a man in a road rage incident and throwing a bottle at his girlfriend has only, in his eyes, confirmed that. George Zimmerman spoke to The Blast , and he sounded irate that docuseries executive producer Michael Gasparro showed up at the homes of his parents and uncle. Zimmerman, being the kind of guy who would stalk and murder a teenager who was just walking home with some skittles, is responding with open hostility. And with threats. Among his threats is one to “beat Jay-Z.” Jay-Z has actually been shot before, and also almost certainly has more than enough private security to deal with a man whose claim to fame was the murder of an unarmed teenager. But that doesn’t stop Zimmerman from doing his best to sound menacing. “I know how to handle people who f–k with me, I have since February 2012.” If you read that and are thinking that it’s somehow not an explicit threat, well, Zimmerman also got a lot more specific when speaking to The Blast . “Anyone who f–ks with my parents will be fed to an alligator.” A murderer who got off scott free then threatening to feed people to alligators for interviewing his parents isn’t the most Floridian thing that we’ve ever heard, but it does make the top 10 list. George Zimmerman brags about murder a lot. It doesn’t usually go over well, though he’s had a number of appalling racists reach out to support him. These same racists, we imagine, were among the bidders when George Zimmerman auctioned off the murder weapon . But it sounds like Jay-Z’s documentary, “Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story,” is really getting under Zimmerman’s skin. Zimmerman describes the attempted interviews (we don’t know if they took place or not) as “harassment” but fails to describe any way in which harassment might have taken place. And The Blast says that he seemed to be especially upset at the news that his ex-wife had been paid an unspecified amount of money for being interviewed. Having one of the most infamous murderers in recent American history as your ex-husband can’t come with many perks, but getting paid to describe your experiences with him and to reveal what you know about him would, we suppose, be one. Some may respond the idea of Zimmerman’s family (even ex-family) getting paid to speak with hostility. After Trayvon Martin lost his life at age 17, they think, is it right for people associated with his murder to get paid? We would counter with this: this very likely means that Trayvon Martin’s family and friends and loved ones, who still mourn him and are honoring his memory by speaking in this docuseries, are also getting paid. Beyonce and Jay-Z are famously very, very generous with their wealth. And while nothing can ever bring back their son, we think that Trayvon’s loved ones deserve to get paid for speaking the truth. This docuseries could be important, however. There are even die-hard racists in this world who have trouble dehumanizing someone when confronted with that person’s full humanity. More to the point, honoring Trayvon’s memory and mourning his loss could remind others of the potential costs of their actions. How many racists, we wonder, bite their tongues when they realize that if they scream obscenities as a Burger King employee or whatever, their rant might go viral. Some of those people might think twice about stalking an unarmed teen and then murdering him if they consider that they might become one of the most hated people in America. Knowles-Lawson attended the 6th Annual Ladylike Day at UCLA on Saturday, December 16 and spilled to US Weekly about 7-month-old twins Rumi and Sir: “It’s amazing. It’s one of the best blessings. Being a grandmother, it’s not like being a mom because you don’t have to have all the responsibility all the time, but they are amazing,” she told Us Weekly at the event. “This is my first experience around twins, and they’re so different, and their personalities, and they are wonderful.” When asked if she was seeing any of herself in the twins, Knowles-Lawson said, “Other than the boy has a stare, like a mean mug, like Jay sometimes, which is so cute, and the girl, she’s just so happy all the time and so sweet.
