‘Power’ Recap: Tommy Asks Tasha & Riq “Whose Side Are You On?” After Ghost’s Failed To Cancel His Christmas

Read more:

Source: Starz / Power L ast week, Angela Valdes’ death on the Power’s premiere set the tone for the show’s sixth and final season, and that is revenge . Ghost thinks he has settled the score with Tommy after he sprayed his iconic mustang with bullets. He will learn that he was sadly mistaken and just made matters much worse for himself. Ghost Is Getting Played Like A Fool Source: Starz / Power G host firmly believes he killed Tommy that night, but we all know that wasn’t the case, so Jason decides to use that to his advantage. James’ lust for revenge comes with some severe consequences cause now he has to explain himself to Jason. After surveying his handy work on Tommy’s bullet-riddled mustang, Ghost meets up with the druglord to clarify that the hit wasn’t aimed at him or his crew, but just at his former business partner. He goes into his struggling piggy bank to make a peace offering to Jason and after some convincing gets him to accept it. BUT, Jason, of course, knows he has the upper hand on Ghost and decides to make him pay $100K every two weeks to keep him from retaliating against him. Ghost has no choice but to agree to the lopsided arrangement and at the same time has no idea he is getting played. The deceit doesn’t end there. The two people he thought he could trust the most, his son and his estranged wife Tasha, are also playing him like a fiddle. They too also know that Tommy is not dead but plays along and hatch plans with his rival behind his back. He will soon learn about all of this at the worst possible time, and we will touch on that in a bit. Tommy Has The Advantage Source: Starz / Power W ith Ghost believing that he is dead, Tommy knows he has an advantage, and he decides to use it. His first move while “dead” is to get people on his side and he manages to recruit both Tasha and Riq. Tasha wants a divorce, but thanks to their prenup, she gets nothing because she initiated the proceedings. With Ghost dead, she can get all of his money and assets plus the revenge she seeks for him killing the “love of her life,” Terry Silver. Riq just can’t stand his dad and wants him out of the way, and he has no feelings if Uncle Tommy kills his pops. Tommy also uses the time to school Keisha onto the game. She is down for the cause and Tasha advises her to keep her and Kash happy so she won’t dime them out. Keisha, on the other hand, is over the St.Patricks and wants her boo to stop talking to Tasha altogether and is excited to be involved with Tommy’s drug business. Funny we remember she was all against that a few seasons ago but whatever. Jason is cleverly using this whole Ghost vs. Tommy thing to his advantage as well. He tells Tommy that he cannot kill Ghost because basically, he would be out of $100K payments every two weeks. Jason doesn’t reveal that to Tommy, of course. He offers Tommy protection, but it won’t come free, and if he misses a payment, Jason will tell his guys to sit back and let Ghost kill him. With the upper hand, Tommy will make a colossal move later that we will touch on that will shake Ghost to his core and hit him where it hurts. Ghost and Tasha 2.0? Source: Starz / Power W hile his parents are currently beginning the divorce process, Riq is at Choate working on becoming the man he hates so much… his dad. No longer satisfied with just getting good grades and living his best life, the oldest seed of Ghost is now a pill-pushing hustler. Riq has a very lucrative drug business going on at his school and is using his roommate to help push his product. It looks like Uncle Tommy and the lessons from his mentor Kanan are rubbing off on him. But like any good business, word spreads around very fast. Riq’s drug dealing ways has caught the attention of another Black student who requests to have a conversation with Riq. Unlike Riq, she is from the hood, but is about her studies (sounds very familiar) and feels that being both she and he is a handful of Black kids at the school his decision to peddle pills is only adding to the stereotype. Of course, Riq doesn’t give a damn what she thinks and hits her with a clever counteroffer to join his crew which will provide her with the opportunity to make some real money to improve her conditions at Choate. His pitch works because she shows up later at his dorm room and accepts his offer. The new business partners and more than likely couple go inside to play some video games. If this doesn’t sound precisely like Ghost and Tasha’s origin story, we don’t know what does. Brilliant, young, Black woman getting involved with a knuckled head teen boy, this just screams James and Tasha 2.0. We see what you’re doing here Power writers. Paz Makes A Tough Decision Source: Starz / Power P oor Paz, she is really not handling the death of her sister well. Not only does she not have the money to pay for the funeral — keep in mind she told Jamie no — Angela’s benefits are being held up too. Annoying ass Saxe reveals to her that due to Angela’s complicated involvement in the case the government is holding the funds up. He vowes to help speed things up but needs more information from Paz. She is still fed up because he hasn’t arrested Ghost yet and thought that allowing Saxe to perform an autopsy on her sister would help. Newsflash it won’t. Saxe tells her he will keep working to put James behind bars and to share anything she finds of relevance in Angie’s belongings with him. While going through her sister’s things in the deceased government prosecutor’s apartment, she stumbles upon the burner phone she used to speak with Tasha. She texts the number she believes belongs to Ghost asking to meet up but has no idea it’s his estranged wife on the other end. Paz is surprised to find out that she was speaking with Tasha but learns that Angela was working with the St.Patricks and had no intention of flipping on Ghost. Tasha also convinces Paz that Ghost didn’t kill her sister at all. After leaving the meeting with some new clarity on the situation, she makes a tough decision. She learns from the pastor that someone paid for the cost of the funeral, she decides to find out who. She immediately calls Saxe to see if he was able to get Angela’s benefits to clear, he says they are still being held up. After she hangs up the call, she texts Tasha and says thank you because she figured it out that Jame’s wife paid the funeral costs. It’s there she decides to bury her sister’s secrets with her, and she puts the burner phone in Angela’s casket. Finally, Paz does something right. Proctor Has A Problem Source: Starz / Power O ur favorite attorney has a big problem, his wife is back. Saxe is desperately trying to find some dirt on Ghost and thinks Proctor has it all. He recruits Proctor’s ex-wife who manages to convince Saxe to give her a recommendation for a job at a firm. In return, it will her be able to see her daughter again, allowing her to place a bug hidden in a unicorn on her daughter’s backpack so the feds can listen in on Proctor. During the custody hearing, Proctor is blindsided by his ex-wife’s power move after she announces she has a job to the judge. During a chamber meeting, the judge asked Proctor’s daughter to choose who she wanted to stay with. Proctor’s daughter breaks down because of the pressure of having to choose between her parents. After seeing enough, he grants his coke head ex-wife joint custody. Little does he know he played right into Saxe’s hands. Councilman Tate Doesn’t Trust Ghost Source: Starz / Power C ouncilman Tate makes his season six debut, and he is just as conniving as ever. Tate wants to be Governor more than anything and doesn’t need Ghost and his problems sinking his election bid. The shady figures have a heart-to-heart and Ghost assures him that Angela’s death and his alleged involvement will not be a problem. Tate still allows Ghost to be a part of his campaign but wants him to keep his mouth shut. Now, do you think Ghost is going to listen? Of course not. During a press conference where Tate gets grilled about having St. Patrick on his team as well as Angela’s death. Things get testy when a constituent from the old neighborhood busts in demanding answers from Tate. The upset neighborhood local also calls Ghost out for his past, pointing out that he ain’t nothing but a former corner boy. Ghost hearing enough from the disgruntled man decides to jump in and speak much to the chagrin of Tate. We quickly learn that Tate saw an opportunity in the bungled press conference. He meets up with the angry constituent and offers him a job. Tate wants him to follow Ghost and do some “research” on him. He agrees to do Tate’s bidding, but we know he more than likely just signed his death warrant. Nobody gets the upper hand on Ghost. We also finally get to see THE REAL Rashad Tate, not the fake political figure we have grown accustomed too. Tommy Harlem Shakes At Angela’s Funeral Source: Starz / Power I t’s finally time to say goodbye to Angela Valdes. In a very somber moment, all of Power’s most prominent players gather to pay their respects to the fallen prosecutor. Tameika is also on hand to say farewell to her former employee. She and Saxe engage in a conversation to catch up and update each other on the case. Tameika suggests to Saxe that he should leave before his new boss gets rid of him too. Saxe still firmly believes that Ghost is responsible for everything while Tameika is still skeptical. Their conversation stops when Ghost and Tasha appear surprising all of them. Things get even more interesting when Tommy — Angela’s killer — walks in pays his respects to both Paz and Angie’s sobbing dad. D I S R E S P E C T F U L. Ghost is absolutely stunned because: Tommy is still alive. Tommy has the balls to show up at Angela’s funeral, knowing he killed her. His wife, Tasha, and his son lied to him about Tommy being alive. After Tommy’s stunt at the funeral,. Ghost immediately runs to talk to Jason and wants to know why he didn’t tell him. Jason tells him that he had to protect his interest because Tommy is his distro. Ghost isn’t trying to hear that and wants his former best friend dead. Jason gives him permission to kill Tommy, but of course, there is a big stipulation. If Ghost does manage to eliminate Tommy, he will have to replace him as the new distro. Ghost has no desire to get back in the game, Jason tells him he doesn’t care how he does it, but if James does kill Tommy, he has to be replaced. Oh man, Tommy’s move was spicier than Popeye’s spicy chicken sandwich. Forgot About Dre? Source: Starz / Power W e have been wondering where Dre was, and we finally learn what he has been up to. He is currently under witness protection and is set to testify against Alicia Jimenez. He has no idea that Angela is dead and learns after news of her funeral hits the television. Dre discovering that Angela is deceased is the fed’s most significant fear because they feel it will spook him out of testifying. After Jerry stops by to inform him that are moving him and his daughter to another secure location, Dre looks like he is now more determined to get back in the game. Things are starting to get real exciting quickly in the world of Power . The game is wide open, and it would seem the Power writers are positioning Dre for an opportunity to take over with Ghost not wanting to deal drugs any longer. Say WHAT?! Houston Popeyes Employees Held At Gunpoint Over Coveted Chicken Sandwiches

Source: Roberto Machado Noa / Getty Houston Popeyes Held At Gunpoint After Running Out Of Chicken Sandwiches In a story you would think could only take place somewhere in Florida , employees at a Popeyes in Houston, Texas were held at gun point last night. If you’ve been paying attention to the media lately, you can probably already guess why these folks were so pressed for some Popeyes, but we’re going to tell you what happened anyway. The Popeyes at the 7100 block of Scott Street in Houston ended up running out of the new chicken sandwich right after their daily dinner rush. This is a pretty common situation that has been highly talked about in conjunction with the sandwich , but one patron didn’t seem to get that memo. Southeast officers are at 7100 Scott. Male pulled a gun on employees of restaurant after they ran out of chicken sandwich. 202 pic.twitter.com/xC6jlmwJeD — Houston Police (@houstonpolice) September 3, 2019 When the gunmen rushed the door, employees and customers all offered up their belongings to the criminals, but surprisingly, they refused to take anything. All they wanted was some chicken sandwiches. Even when the employees ended up offering these criminals access to the safe, they declined–still demanding chicken sandwiches . Luckily for everyone involved, one smart Popeyes employee was able to lock the gunmen out and proceeded to call the police. No arrest have been made yet, but once word spreads and a little reward is offered, Houston natives probably won’t mind giving up the info. Group of people with gun rushes door at @PopeyesChicken on Scott and Corder. They wanted the chicken sandwich, say employees. SMH: Four Atlanta Hotels Hit With Lawsuit Over Sex Trafficking Allegations

Source: Source: EditionHotels.com/ Edition Hotels, Miami Beach / Source: EditionHotels.com/ Edition Hotels, Miami Beach Atlanta Hotels Sued For Alleged Sex Trafficking Involvement There’s probably at least one time in your life where you’ve heard the phrase, “If you see something, say something”. It’s a simple saying that could seriously save your life, but maybe even more importantly, it can save someone else. Four Atlanta area hotels ended up ignoring this age-old advice and now, they’re facing federal charges for it. According to the AJC.com, these aforementioned hotels include a Red Roof Inn near SunTrust Park, a La Quinta Inn near North Point Mall, Hometown Studios–previously operating as a Suburban Extended Stay–on Peachtree Industrial Court in Chamblee, and Extended Stay America on Hammond Drive near Sandy Springs. Up to 20 men a day visited hotel rooms for short periods of time (which is a pretty obvious indicator of sex trafficking) and some women were forced to stay at the hotels for weeks at a time, according to four trafficking survivors. The federal investigation revealed these hotels knew about the sex trafficking going on in their facilities and not only turned the other cheek, but profited heavily from the illegal activity. Employees were paid to keep quiet and act as lookouts in case police arrived or other hotel guests were suspicious, the lawsuits state. The Red Roof Inn even had a sign that reportedly reads “No Refund After 15 mins”. “There is no legitimate reason for the Smyrna Red Roof Inn to have such a policy,” the four lawsuits state. “The policy exists so that commercial sex acts cannot be accomplished quickly at the Smyrna Red Roof Inn without also paying for a room…” Hopefully, these businesses are held accountable for their role in sex trafficking and no one else has to experience such trauma just because a hotel wants to make a quick $40. The plaintiffs are seeking trials by jury and unspecified punitive damages.

Project Beauty Expo Is the Conference Every Brown Beauty Needs

Follow this link:

Source: Project Beauty Expo / Courtesy of Brittany Brown Beauties, are you ready to take your beauty routine up a notch? Well, get excited because Project Beauty Expo is coming! Founded by esthetician, creator and owner of Moneé Cosmetics and fellow Brown beauty, Brittany Brown , Project Beauty Expo (PBE) is a one of a kind experience that every Black woman can enjoy. The annual “part conference, part experiential inspirational wonderland” is an opportunity for women of color to celebrate and connect with indie brand founders, network with content creators, hear from beauty enthusiasts and learn about everything there is to know about natural beauty, wellness and healthy living. “In the billion-dollar beauty industry, there is no platform that provides women with the tools to prepare themselves to enter this market while also giving them an opportunity to be discovered,” Brown explained. “With the platform provided by Project Beauty Expo, emerging or existing beauty brand owners have the opportunity to learn how to better operate their business as well as showcase their brand to the mass market.” As Brown stated, PBE was ultimately created in an effort to increase the number of multicultural women in the beauty industry by providing a support group for those interested in growing in this space. Source: Project Beauty Expo / Courtesy of Brittany Brown Not only is PBE a place where women of color can connect and build, it also aims to provide education from industry experts and buyers such as Sephora, Target, Ulta, Shopify and more that are dedicated to sharing insights on how to ultimately grow your indie beauty brand. What started as small event in Washington, D.C in 2016 has grown to over 40 participating brands and 300+ attendees, and only aims to get bigger. This year, the expo is taking over the West Coast (LA to be exact) starting on September 14 th and is set to be unlike any other beauty conference you’ve ever seen before. “[This] is a very exciting year for PBE,” Brown told us. “Not only have we migrated our community across the country but we’ve also expanded our event to 2 days. We added a full of workshops and to equip our exhibitors and other interested beauty professionals with the resources and information needed to grow their beauty business.” What sets PBE apart from your traditional beauty conference is that it’s a space specifically designed for Black and Brown beauty curators looking to take their careers to the next level. While larger beauty conferences might overlook this talented group of women, PBE was created for and by Black women and is designed to make sure people of color aren’t forgotten in the beauty world. Source: Project Beauty Expo / Courtesy of Brittany Brown In the short amount of time that PBE has been in existence, it’s grown to not only showcase indie beauty brands but also offer opportunities for Black and Brown women, beauty bloggers, natural beauty fanatics and enthusiasts to connect, collaborate, and share. The goal of #PBE2019, according to Brown is to “equip founders with knowledge through carefully curated workshops and create an experience for consumers and beauty entrepreneurs to come together to support the next generation of beauty disruptors that lack visibility within the industry.” Take it from the experts, this is one beauty event you don’t want to miss! Starbucks In Philly Under Fire For Islamophobic Name Jab At Muslim Man, Lied About Apologizing

See the article here:

Source: KENA BETANCUR / Getty Once again, a Starbucks in Philadelphia is under fire for making another racist inference according to the claims of a patron who says staff in the store took a swipe at his name. Niquel Johnson, a 40-year-old Muslim man who goes by the name Aziz, says an employee at Starbucks wrote “ISIS” as his name and he adds that they also lied about speaking with his niece to issue an apology. The Washington Post exclusively reports : Niquel Johnson paid for three drinks in Philadelphia on Sunday, and in typical Starbucks fashion, an employee asked for his name. Johnson, 40, told them “Aziz,” his Islamic name pronounced ah-zeez. He has used it for 25 years — and “countless” times at that particular store. But three unusual things happened on this occasion, he said. When his order was ready, a staffer announced them by drink type, not his name. The second unusual part was the employee wrote his name as “ISIS” — the acronym for the Islamic terror group — in the printout attached to all three drinks. Johnson didn’t even realize it until later, when a friend pointed it out at a bookstore. “I was shocked and angry. I felt it was discrimination,” Johnson told The Washington Post on Friday. The outlet writes that Starbucks claimed they spoke with Johnson’s niece and settled the matter. The kicker is that Johnson says whoever the company claims they spoke with, a woman named Alora, isn’t someone known to him in his life. Johnson is considering legal action. — Photo: Getty

Fair Or Foul: Twitter Is Fighting Over If Beyonce Needs To Speak Up About Sellout-y Jay-Z Comments

Source: Dave J Hogan / Getty Beyonce Dragged Into Jay-Z Controversy Behind every good man, there’s a good woman, right? So what happens when that man comes off looking like a sellout who threw his people under the bus? Well, then Twitter starts to question the woman and her influence on the situation. That’s exactly what’s happening with Jay-Z and Beyonce. Now that Jay has appeared to cash out on an NFL deal , disappointing tons of black people, the internet wants Bey to speak up. SMH. That’s hugely an insufferable take, people. Because nobody asks for Beyonce quotes or opinions when Jay does something positive or particularly smart. That’s all him. Of course, when Beyonce does something game-changing Jay is credited for coaching her like she’s some puppy dog. Now that he’s done something that’s mostly received as trash, she now has to speak up? That’s wack. I just find it so funny how the first thing y’all say whenever Jay Z does something messy is “BEYONCÉ TRASH TOO”. Like… this ain’t got nothing to do with her. Y’all swear y’all feminists but be so ready to drag a BW who’s made a brand from minding her business. — Mikey At 87k (@Mikey_Talks) September 1, 2019 We’d rather see people on Twitter do this: clown him and wonder why the hell he keeps dragging her and her brand down. But alas, the arguments are still there. What should Beyonce do?! Take a look… How did we go from talking shit about Jay Z to blaming Beyoncé ? Marriage does not mean you get to control the every action of your spouse. He ain’t doing shit worth ending a marriage over. pic.twitter.com/ndjwNV9y80 — Ken (@iaintshitduh) August 30, 2019

Ari Lennox Talks Love For Missy Elliott, #DontMuteDC & Racism She Says She Experienced In London (Exclusive)

Read the original:

Source: @photosbynae / iOne Digital Ever since Ari Lennox ‘s debut album Shea Butter Baby dropped back in May, it’s been the laid-back record of the summer. The retro yet fresh sounds represent the many sides of Ari, whether she’s taking it easy with a lover, enjoying her new apartment or going on broke adventures with bae. In a chat with Global Grind , it’s clear that she’s a dynamic woman. Her voice moves between soft, confident and stern depending on the topic of discussion. Although romance is the main game for her music, other issues concern Lennox as well, including foul treatment she says she received at a Zara store in London and the steady gentrification of her hometown, Washington D.C.  Check out what she has to say below along with happier moments, such as discussing the greatness of Missy Elliott. So first off, you always have the best music videos and recently, the MTV Video Music Awards aired with Missy Elliott receiving the Video Vanguard Award. Is there anyone who was influential to you in terms of your visuals?  Yea, Missy Elliott is responsible for my whole career like…from her harmonies, to her beats, her dancing, her style, even though I can’t dance for sh**. But I’d like to pretend in my head that I can one day be that. She’s responsible  for so many phenomenal people’s careers like freaking Aaliyah, Tweet, Jazmine Sullivan, Monica . My favorite songs from Monica are all Missy. My favorite stuff from Ciara is all Missy. Destiny’s Child. “Signs” by Beyoncé changed my whole life. So I just want to be like her and all the people that she’s helped with their careers.     Who do you think should get the next Video Vanguard Award? Did  Timbaland get one? Yea,  Timbaland because he’s next to Missy to me. Pharrell . Did Diddy ever get one? Diddy needs one. Actually,  Diddy’s  next. Absolutely.    Back in July, you tweeted about a bad experience in London where you said you were racially profiled at a Zara store. What was your thought process before making that tweet? Were you anxious or are you someone who’s never afraid to speak up about issues like that?  At this point, I don’t even want to go into stores anymore because I don’t want to hate no more brands. Because I really like to shop, I like clothes. But I had to tell the world that Zara, you’ve been trying people , our people for too long. And then even when I said it, they didn’t care. No apology. Nothing. They were just like, oh you know ‘hit us up,’ or they told me to hit them in their DMs or something. But I’m just like, I’m never going to shop here again. And people always try to say America’s the only place. Sometimes I feel like going to Europe some people are like ‘Trump, oh I hate Trump,’ and I’m like ‘I did not vote for that ni**a, like I don’t fu** with him either.’ Sometimes I feel attacked a little bit when people start talking about America. It’s probably one of the most racist countries, but there’s racism in other places too. And I think it’s important for the world to know, oh ya’ll trifling too. Source: @photosbynae / iOne Digital You’re a D.C. native and recently #DontMuteDC has gone viral as a response to gentrifiers trying to silence go-go music in D.C. How did you feel when the hashtag first started popping off? I think that was the icing on the cake. W hen you’re threatening culture, the foundation of the city, like the thing that made people come together. It’s community, it makes people feel free and happy. I just remember growing up and burning  go-go on my CDs. Like “Roll Call” by CCB was on repeat and “Sexy Lady” by UCB.   This is our sh**. Folks are not only coming in and jacking up the prices and making people leave, but you’re trying to cancel a whole genre. It’s like who the fu** do you think you are? It’s disgusting. I just feel like there’s too much White madness going on in D.C. and it hurts so bad. With all the music and the work and the politics, what do you do to keep a clear head? A lot of Sims 3 honestly. Sims 3 , Netflix, Amazon Prime. Just being able to buy my favorite movies and find out about new movies. I wish I could focus in silence and just read. I would like to start reading more. But my mind is just so all over the place. But usually, it’s just Sims 3 , some of my favorite TV shows and my dog mostly.   Any movies coming out you plan on seeing?  This Harriet movie I would like to see. Then there’s Black Panther 2 and It Chapter 2. I want to see that. Anything dark, I want to see. Like super thriller vibes, I want to see.

Jim Bob Duggar: Forcing ALL His Sons to Work for Him?

The Duggar gals are firmly in the spotlight this summer, between Jinger’s rebellious move to LA , and that pile of babies on the way. But we haven’t entirely forgotten about the (admittedly less interesting) Duggar boys.  Lately, fans have been wondering why these guys can’t seem to hold down a job unless it’s working for Jim Bob. It’s weird, right? With a family this large, you’d expect its members to have all kinds of careers. Basically, in the Duggar family, the men work, and the women get married and have kids. It’s like a rule, and they’re apparently very into it. It all goes back to the family’s religion. They’re devout followers of the Institute in Basic Life Principles ministry. The Duggar way of life stresses family ties, so much so that they basically disowned Jinger for moving away. So it’s not surprising that the men like to keep their jobs in the family when possible.  And let’s not forget Jim Bob’s many business holdings. The man has a successful real estate business, a car lot, and several airplanes, not to mention a hit reality TV show about his life. Jim Bob would obviously have no problem finding a job for every man in the family. He’d probably put the kids to work too, if it weren’t for those pesky child labor laws. Of the boys who are old enough to work, Joseph, Josiah, and Jason Duggar are all apparently going into real estate. They’ll be following in the footsteps of Jim Bob, who began his career in real estate. Jim Bob reportedly still makes good money for the family through his real estate business, despite shifting his focus to Counting On . Hopefully the real estate game will be kind to Joseph, Josiah, and Jason. Jim Bob’s older boys weren’t exactly successful in their own careers. Josh Duggar, the eldest, had a brief but disastrous stint in politics. For two years Josh was the executive director of FRC Action, an organization that lobbied on behalf of the conservative hate group, Family Research Council. He was brought on board because the FRC assumed his fame would help their message appeal to kids. But as we now know, it was actually kids who appealed to Josh. In 2015 it came to light that Josh had molested five underage girls, and his family had helped him cover it up. 19 Kids and Counting was cancelled, and so was Josh’s career. Josh returned home in disgrace and now works at a used car dealership owned by his father. Josh’s younger brother, 29-year-old John-David, has a less loathsome story, though the bar is low. John has his pilot’s license, but he’s never quite reached the heights of success with it. Apparently he mostly uses it for flying his huge family around, instead of making an actual living as a pilot.  John is also a constable in Washington County, Arkansas, though this is reportedly an unpaid volunteer position. So what is he doing for money? Perhaps he and Jim Bob have some kind of arrangement? We wonder what kind of benefits come with being the Duggars’ unofficial sky chauffeur. It seems like the Duggar family patriarch is happy to put his kids to work for the family, even if it’s not an actual position. The only exceptions seem to be for Jim Bob’s sons-in-law, who married into the family and don’t yet work for Jim Bob. Ben Seewald, who’s married to Jessa Duggar, is regularly blasted by fans for being unemployed. Jill’s hubbie Derick Dillard is also unemployed, but since he’s in law school, he has a pretty great excuse. Jinger, the “rebellious” one, married a minister. Truly wild stuff, huh? But her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, used to be a professional soccer player, which actually is pretty cool. So overall, the Duggar guys are all either unemployed, working in the church, or working for Jim Bob. What’s going on with the Duggar men? It would be unfair (and possibly untrue) to dismiss the Duggar boys unilaterally as clods who couldn’t make in the real work force. But it’s worth mentioning that the IBLP strongly discourages its members from seeking a college education. After all, during their education, they might be exposed to a viewpoint that isn’t shared by the church, God forbid. In fact, IBLP instructs men to avoid working for secular companies or employers. Men in the church are also discouraged from taking orders from a woman, even in a professional capacity. And this is what’s at the root of this whole trend of Duggar guys just working for themselves. They have a feverish obedience to fringe religious beliefs that prevent them from working for non-Christians or even women. We hear about the women in this community being opressed, at least from an outsider’s perspective. But this way of life doesn’t leave a lot of choices for the men either, and we can see that in the careers these guys have chosen. It’s either work to serve your family, work to serve your faith community, or don’t work at all. But the family is always growing, and several more Duggar boys have yet to reach working age. Here’s hoping they buck the trend. View Slideshow: The Duggars: Hated in Their Hometown?

The Hills Sneak Peek: Were Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter Polyamorous?

Earlier this month, the world learned that  it's over between Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter . But when this sneak peek clip from The Hills: New Beginnings was filmed, they were still a couple and shooting down relationship rumors. To their shared frustration, a rumor cropped up that they had once been polyamorous. Is it true? In this sneak peek from The Hills: New Beginnings , Kaitlynn's friend Liz Facetimes her to warn her. Stephanie Pratt has been gossiping about her, Liz cautions, saying: “She’s just, like, asking about your relationship.” According to Liz: “She’s like, ‘I don’t know. Isn’t there someone else, like, involved?’” “What does she mean by that?” Kaitlynn asks, looking amused if anything. Liz reports: “She thinks you guys are like in this, like, polyamorous relationship.” Liz sort of stumbles over the word “polyamorous,” which is a good reminder that some of us use that word more often than others. If you need a reminder, a polyamorous relationship usually involves more than two people in an often romantic relationship. It can mean one person in a serious relationship with two others who know about each other. It could mean eight people who all date all of the others. Brody hears this theory and quickly interjects. “That’s none of her business,” Brody asserts. He continues, saying: “You know, we just, we like what we like.” Kaitlynn then uses the confessional camera to explain to viewers what gave Stephanie this idea. “When Brody and I first were together,” she recalls. “We were young, we were crazy.” “We were, like, you know, basically just trying to have the time of our lives,” Kaitlynn continues. “So,” she informs the viewers. “We did a lot of things in our relationship.” Oh? What kinds of things. Kaitlynn explains that these were hings “that, you know, I certainly wouldn’t say I regret.” Good. Regrets serve little good, especially if you were having fun at the time. But her words could mean polyamory. It could also mean that they had an open relationship or had a lot of threesomes, foursomes, or “moresomes.” Apparently they were content to leave that up to everyone's imaginations. “But,” Kaitlyn expresses. “The level of gossip that I feel happens in the group — it just makes me angry.” That's very fair. On August second, Brody and Kaitlynn announced their shocking split. “Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter have decided to amicably separate,” their representative announced in a statement. “They love and respect one another,” the statement affirmed. “And know that this is the best decision for their relationship moving forward.” Though the two held a well-publicized wedding ceremony in June of 2018, they were never legally married. That makes Caitlyn Jenner's inability to attend her son's “wedding” a much smaller deal. (Also, if he wanted her to attend, he shouldn't have scheduled his last-minute ceremony during Pride Month) About a week later, Kaitlynn was seen gal pal-ing around with none other than Miley Cyrus. “Brody and Kaitlynn separated on good terms and are still close friends,” a source insisted at the time. “Brody is in a great headspace right now,” the insider reported. “And really isn’t bothered by Kaitlynn and Miley’s relationship.” Miley and Kaitlynn have not been trying to hide what they have going, either on social media or at major awards shows like the VMAs. It's interesting, but not necessarily signiificant, that both now-split couples were friends before things fell apart. And Miley and Liam were rumored to have struggled with whether or not to be an open relationship. This clip and this episode are likely not going to do anythign to discourage rumors.

Tyler Skaggs: Baseball Player’s Cause of Death Revealed; Family Blames Team

Back in July, baseball fans were stunned by the death of Tyler Skaggs , a 27-year-old pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels. Now, medical examiners in Los Angeles county have released the results of toxicology testing that points to the cause of Skaggs’ death. According to the official coroner’s report, Skaggs passed away due to a combination “alcohol, fentanyl and oxycodone intoxication with terminal aspiration of gastric contents.” It appears that after a night in which he ingested several intoxicating substances, Skaggs choked on his own vomit while unconscious. Now, in a shocking turn of events, the Skaggs family has revealed that they intend to take legal action, as they believe an employee of the Angels is directly responsible for Tyler’s passing: “We are heartbroken to learn that the passing of our beloved Tyler was the result of a combination of dangerous drugs and alcohol,” the statement said.  “That is completely out of character for someone who worked so hard to become a Major League baseball player and had a very promising future in the game he loved so much,” it continued. “We are grateful for the work of the detectives in the Southlake Police Department and their ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding Tyler’s death. We were shocked to learn that it may involve an employee of the Los Angeles Angels,” the grieving family added. “We will not rest until we learn the truth about how Tyler came into possession of these narcotics, including who supplied them. To that end, we have hired attorney Rusty Hardin to assist us.” This is the first time the family has publicly suggested the possibility of taking action against the Angels.  In his own statement, attorney Hardin stated that it’s “way too early” to speculate on any potential legal action by Skaggs’ loved ones. “I think the thing to keep in mind is they’re just still so devastated, both the wife and the family, about this young man’s death, and they just want to know what happened and how it happened,” Hardin told the Los Angeles Times. “We’re going to want to know how it came about that those drugs were ingested and whether or not others are responsible for what happened.” The Angels have yet to publicly respond to the allegations and have issued no official statement on Skagg’s passing since their initial press release: “It is with great sorrow that we report Tyler Skaggs passed away earlier today in Texas,” the team said at the time. “Tyler has, and always will be, an important part of the Angels family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Carli and his entire family during this devastating time.” We’ll have further updates on this developing story as more information becomes available.
