Meghan Markle is definitely getting the royal treatment when it comes to her baby shower.    But rather than an over the top evening filled with hot tea and hats, the Duchess made a getaway to the Big Apple to spend some quality time with her closest, non-British besties. And we don’t blame her.  According to multiple outlets, Meghan has been in NYC over the past couple of days celebrating the upcoming arrival of her and Prince Harry’s first child  who is due this Spring. And Meghan’s pals deserve an award for their wondrous party planning skills.  The shower is reportedly being held in a $75,000 suite at The Mark Hotel, which is known as “New York’s most boldly lavish hotel” located in the heart of Manhattan.  And the head chef at the 5-star resort happens to be none other than world-renowned culinary master Jean-Georges Vongerichten.  But the only thing better than the food…the guest list!  A-list celebrities filed into the hotel to greet the royal, including Amal Clooney, Serena Williams, Gayle King, Meghan’s wedding makeup artist Daniel Martin, former Suits star Abigail Spencer, Toronto-based stylist Jessica Mulroney, and designer (and Meghan and Harry’s matchmaker) Misha Nonoo, according to People .  But Serena and Amal are footing the bill as they are rumored to be the ones hosting the extravagant party.  And it wasn’t just their sophisticated chic fashion the photographers were busy capturing, but rather a giant cotton candy machine being wheeled into the hotel!  Meghan reportedly has been known to spoil her friends and co-workers with special treats.  So it seems as though they are returning the sweet favor.  “She would always do spirit boosters for the crew on set – for example, having gourmet burgers delivered,” said a former costar to People .  “It’s the same stuff she does with her office at [Kensington Palace] now. I came by there one day, and she had ordered an incredible ice-cream ad sorbet stand for the office.” They were remarking how it was the ‘best day of work ever.’ It warmed my heart to see her just continuing to be her and bring her style to the U.K.” The distinguished guests, who also attended Meghan and Harry’s wedding in 2018 , will likely be walking away with personal gifts as well.  Delivery of more than a dozen luxury carry-on suitcases by Away (which People shared can be monogrammed!) arrived at the hotel on Wednesday morning.  But that’s not it! New York City-based harpist and singer Erin Hill was also spotted entering the hotel.  Hill has played with Cyndi Lauper, Kanye West and Josh Groban. But she has also had her fair share with more noble appearances as she’s played solo at The Royal Albert Hall and Carnegie Hall.  The fun all began on Tuesday when one of Meghan’s first baby gifts arrived, which was an eco-friendly and modern crib by Babyletto.  It’s no secret that Meghan’s friends are doing an A+ job with the shower, but they’ve also earned an A+ for having their BFF’s back throughout all the pressure she has faced while transitioning into a royal.  Last month, her close friends opened up to People for the first time about Meghan and all the negative press she was getting in the U.K.  “Meg has silently sat back and endured the lies and untruths,” her former costar said.  “We worry about what this is doing to her and the baby,” she added. “It’s wrong to put anyone under this level of emotional trauma, let alone when they’re pregnant.”  They all went on to share the truth about the kind of friend Meghan is to them:  “She will stop whatever she’s doing and laugh with you and cry with you,” said another friend and former colleague. Who added, “If I’m thrown some kind of curveball, I always think, ‘I gotta talk to Meg.’ We talk daily and the first thing out of her mouth is, ‘How are the kids? How are you?’ I’m not even allowed to ask about her until she finds out about me.” Another close confidante shared, “Meg is the most generous with her wins.
