Julian Assange, the dude with the knockoff Neil Patrick Harris haircut who runs WikiLeaks, just got arrested, though not because of his controversial site. He faces rape, sexual molestation and unlawful coercion charges in Sweden. An Australian national, Julian Assange has reportedly been hiding in the U.K. since WikiLeaks posted a deluge of classified, explosive documents recently. LEAK THIS : Julian Assange is in custody . Apprehended on the charges resulting from alleged behavior in Sweden, Assange is due in court today. We know one person who’s probably cackling inside. A spokesman based at Scotland Yard confirmed that the “extradition unit” arrested Assange “on behalf of the Swedish authorities on suspicion of rape.” He’s accused of “unlawful coercion, two counts of sexual molestation and one count of rape, all alleged to have been committed in August 2010.” The charges were initially made by two women Assange met on a business trip. Initially dropped, the case was just recently reopened … stunningly. The statement continued, “Julian Assange, 39, was arrested on a European Arrest Warrant by appointment at a London police station at 9:30 a.m. Assange’s lawyer’s office was not taking calls Tuesday, but the BBC quoted his lawyer, Mark Stephens, as saying he was looking for “truth, justice.” He added that his client is cooperating fully, and that “Julian Assange has been the one in hot pursuit to vindicate himself to clear his good name.” WikiLeaks publishes highly classified documents, behavior it justifies by claiming it fosters openness and reveals illegal, immoral activity worldwide. Critics say some of the leaked information posted on WikiLeaks may not only compromise national security, but damage international relationships.

The death toll is quickly approaching 1,000 and health workers worry that its impact on earthquake-torn Port-au-Prince will be grave. Paris Hilton was arrested in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium for allegedly smoking marijuana a few hours ago at a World Cup match. Not as surprising as the Netherlands’ 2-1 win over Brazil, but unexpected! The socialite was taken to the Mount Road Police Station in St. Croix, S.A. just before 8 p.m., Det. Mark Magadlela later confirmed to local news organizations. It is believed that Hilton was indeed at the police station but has since been released. No further specifics were given as to why the ho-tel heiress was busted. Details of Paris’ arrest remain murky at best. Paris Hilton’s Los Angeles-based lawyer says the 29-year-old has served her probation period, after her 2007 conviction for alcohol-related reckless driving. Unlike Lindsay Lohan , her probation is complete (as of January 2010), taking a lot of the potential heat off her from this screw-up, whatever it consisted of. One TMZ source also reports that Paris wasn’t smoking dope, but an officer has reportedly said that Paris was caught red-handed in possession of weed. Another report suggests it was a member of her entourage caught with the stuff, rather than Hilton herself, but that the whole crew was subsequently booked. CULTURE BUZZ : Jaycee Lee Dugard, 29, walked into an Antioch (CA) police station and told authorities she had been kidnapped in 1991 waiting for a school bus in South Lake Tahoe. Authorities have since arrested two suspects for the crime. This case drew national attention because it occurred a couple months after the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping and authorities had thought there may be a connection.
