BET Founder Says He Was Racially Profiled For Keeping Sunglasses On

B ob Johnson , the founder of Black Entertainment Television, recently said that an employee at a luxurious Florida hotel discriminated against him. The billionaire explained that he was racially profiled because he refused to take off his prescription sunglasses. RELATED:  BET Founder Says Corporations Should Consider More Black Execs Johnson’s story is one of the latest high-profile accounts of “Living while Black.” The billionaire was denied check-in at Eau Palm Beach in Manalapan, Florida after a fishing trip on Aug. 24, according to ABC affiliate WPBF . The incident started when a hotel employee told Johnson, who was supposed to stay two nights at the hotel, to take off his sunglasses. Bob Johnson, BET founder, accuses Fla. hotel of ‘racial profiling’ https://t.co/qFtPqPC4tm — The Washington Times (@WashTimes) September 4, 2018 “She said, ‘Well, I can’t check you in if you don’t take off your glasses,’” asserts Johnson, who had shown his state driver’s license, American Express credit card and passport to the employee. “I said, ‘Well, I’m not taking off my glasses.’” The incident ended with the police being called. No compromise was reached between the two parties, Johnson said. He left the hotel without any resolution and felt “humiliated.” The clerk was adhering to standard policy, a spokesman for Eau Palm Beach said. “It is standard operating procedure in the industry to ask to make sure that the person who is presenting themselves to check-in and they present identification that it does match and if they’re wearing dark glasses with a ball cap low over their face, you want to make sure that it is the same person, much like what would happen at TSA rules going through the airport,” spokesman  Nick Gold  said. “I think it’s a silly rule and I think it has overtones of racial profiling,” said Johnson, who became the first Black billionaire when he sold BET in 2001 and owns several hotels, adding that he would never return to the hotel. 13 Reality Shows That Need to Be Rebooted

TV shows are canceled for a variety of reasons.  It could be whether the cast wants out or the ratings, or anything.  With multiple scripted TV shows getting the reboot treatment, it was only a matter of time before the world of reality TV was rocked.  Jersey Shore and The Hills have been rebooted, so why can these 13 shows not get a reprieve?   1. The City The City was a short-lived spin-off of The Hills. It followed Whitney Port as she moved from California to New York in an attempt to further her fashion career. Once there, she quickly learned that the world of fashion was more cutthroat than she first anticipated, and had to adapt to her new surroundings. Initial episodes were clunky, with performances so wooden it sounded that the script was below the camera. However, the series managed to find its footing in Season 2 by scaling back the relationships in favor of actually focusing on the world of fashion. MTV opted to cancel the series alongside The Hills. Given that Port is married to Tim Rosenman, the producer of the series, would it be that difficult to bring the show back in some form if the reboot of The Hills proves to be successful? We think not, and we would totally watch! 2. Here Comes Honey Boo Boo Here Comes Honey Boo Boo followed Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson and her family around McIntyre, Georgia. They were fun to watch, made hilarious comments, and controversy seemed to follow them. TLC pulled the plug after four seasons in 2014, leaving a full season of episodes unaired. The reason for the cancellation was said to be because of rumors that June Shannon was dating a registered sex offender. The series returned to TLC three years later with a two-hour special that featured some of the footage that never made the cut. Could a reboot be on the cards? 3. The Real World The Real World put a group of youngsters inside a house in a specific location each season. Viewers watched as they partied, bickered, made up and did the same thing all over the next episode. Does it sound like a lot of reality TV shows on MTV nowadays? Later seasons added in twists that diluted the premise of the show, and it could explain why MTV has not aired the series since early 2017. There have been rumblings that a reboot is in the works, but there is nothing official as of yet from MTV. A back-to-basics approach could be what this series needs to thrive again. 4. College Hill College Hill followed the lives of students at historically black colleges. The format was similar to The Real World, but the college setting made for a fresh perspective. It was a hit for BET, but fizzled out in its final few seasons, and that was largely down to the cast not being as good as the earlier editions. The general rule of thumb for reality TV is that if the cast is right, viewers will tune in. BET would be wise to trial an updated edition of the show. It could be a hit! 5. Next Next was a dating show that spanned 288 episodes from 2005-08 on MTV. It was retro, cheap, and everything you would expect from a dating show in the noughties. The surprising thing about it was that MTV’s target audience managed to understand the convoluted format. A reboot for streaming could be a hit. 6. Growing Up Gotti Growing Up Gotti followed Victoria Gotti, daughter of Mafia boss John Gotti, and her three sons; Carmine Agnello, Jr., John Gotti Agnello, and Frank Gotti Agnello. Victoria was a hard as nails mother, who would stop at nothing to keep her sons in line. Despite being popular, it lasted just three seasons. A reunion aired on the network nine years later, and proved there was still enough family drama to sustain further seasons. View Slideshow

Audrey Roloff’s Dangerous Driving History: REVEALED!

Audrey Roloff may be the most loving mother in Hollywood. This is an impossible judgment to make, of course, but the point we want to make before delving into one troubling issue in regard to the ex-Little People, Big World star is this: She clearly cares a whole lot about her daughter. Just take one look at Audrey’s Instagram account and read a few words from her about Ember Jean and you’ll agree. Despite this indisputable point, a handful of Internet users are suddenly concerned about Ember’s safety. And this is why: It turns out that Roloff is a really bad driver! Just this past week, Audrey was pulled over and cited for “distracted driving” near her home in Oregon. According to the Washington County Police Department, officers busted Audrey on Wednesday, August 22, around 9:30 a.m. for using her cell phone while behind the wheel. She was issued a citation,” Detective Robert Rookhuÿzen told Radar Online, adding: “It’s illegal to operate a motor vehicle while using your mobile electronic device.” This has become the case in many states around the country. It makes sense from a safety standpoint, doesn’t it? Ember was not in the vehicle at the time of this incident, which Audrey spoke openly about on Instagram. She sounded a little bit defensive while doing so, too, we must admit, writing to fans: “If you are holding your phone while you’re driving, even if you’re talking on speaker phone, even if you’re dialing somebody’s [number]… “it doesn’t matter if you’re at a stoplight or if you’re just looking at your Google Maps to see where you’re going, you cannot pick up your phone while driving.” Audrey then explained that she now knows this from experience. “I’m telling you this because I have been in the car with lots of people who pick up their phone to type in an address for Google Maps, or change the song on Spotify, or answer a phone call, or dial the phone, even if they’re talking on speaker or Bluetooth,” she added. “I just thought I’d pop on here and remind you all, because I was reminded today how dangerous it is to pick up your phone even for a split second.” Meanwhile, in 2014, Audrey was also pulled over for violating the “basic speed rule,” accordingto Marion County Circuit Court documents obtained by Radar . She pled no contest at the time and the case was dismissed after she was ordered to pay $260 in fines. ALSO, however, Roloff was found guilty in 2010 “failure to obey traffic control device.” It is not totally clear what transpired in this case, but a judge ordered her the former reality star to undergo a medical assessment and she was forced to pay $120 in fines. Finally, in April of 2010, Roloff was issued a ticket for speeding. Taken on their own, each of these incidents is not a big deal. Even taken as a whole, they don’t exactly represent a menace to society. But Audrey does have at least some history of driving at least a bit recklessly and she is now a mother, so she does need to be extra careful and aware. That is all we’re saying. But they do have a book coming out in 2019 and you’ll be hearing plenty from them moving forward. For whatever it’s worth, Matt Roloff was arrested for drunk driving in 2007, but later found not guilty. It was his second DUI citation in four years at the time. Rapper Kodak Black Released From Jail

The 21-year-old rapper was released from Broward County Jail early Saturday morning. A camera crew on the scene tried to ask him how he was feeling about his release, but he was too focused on getting the hell out of there. As The Blast first reported, Kodak’s first post-jail stop will be to see his mother and young son. Back in April, the rapper was sentenced to one year in county jail even though he was facing up to 12 years behind bars. Kodak Black pled guilty to two probation violations, including driving on a suspended license and “associating with people committing crimes.” As The Blast previously reported, police witnessed the rapper in the presence of cannabis and ammunition during an Instagram Live stream. His powerhouse attorney,  Bradford Cohen , argued that there was no way to prove that the weed and ammo from the video could be determined to be authentic, and the charges should be dropped. The violation charges were dropped and other charges, including child neglect, that were connected to a police raid on his home, were also dropped.

New Low: Cop Tases Unarmed Black Man Holding Two-Month Old Baby

J ust when you thought it couldn’t get any lower, a Michigan cop tased an unarmed Black man while he was holding his two-month old baby. The video of the incident has gone viral and now the police have released a statement. See Also: President Donald Trump’s Voter Fraud Claims Could Lead To More Voter Suppression Police showed up to a home in Westland, Michigan where people were having a barbecue on Friday night, according ABC 7 in Detroit. “We were just barbecuing, and we saw the cops come up,” said one eyewitness and neighbor who recorded the footage. “They came up and asked us who was fighting. We were like, ‘You got the wrong house.’” Ray Brown, the man who was tased, got agitated with the police coming on his property and demanding answers for something no one knew anything about, according to other witnesses. Audio from the video indicated that an officer told Brown he was going to be arrested and to “get the baby out of here” as police tried to take the baby from him. Brown responded defiantly: “That’s my child. He can be exactly where he’s at. Give me my child. Give me my child.” Brown is then tased. Watch the disturbing video below: Oh my God. Police taser an unarmed, non-violent Black man who was not even wanted for a crime WHILE HE IS HOLDING HIS INFANT BABY. This is right outside of Detroit in Westland City. A caller called 911 saying people were loud. The caller was nowhere to be found when police came. pic.twitter.com/PkCgivd089 — Shaun King (@shaunking) August 20, 2018 “I had to catch the baby. I was in the street talking with the cops. I had to come over,” Nichole Skidmore, the mother to two-month-old Christopher, told ABC 7. “The taser is on this side of him, and the baby is over here. As soon as they start tasing him the baby flew out of his hands and I had to grab him, or he would have fell.” Brown was ultimately arrested and was placed in custody. In a statement, police claimed officers went to Brown’s house because of a “report that a male subject had physically assaulted a female and that he had damaged her vehicle.” The statement about the unconfirmed assault continued: “Westland Police Officers made contact with the man involved in the incident. It was determined that the man was going to be arrested for the assault, the damaged property and also for a number of outstanding arrest warrants.” However, police were denying tasing Brown even though it’s on video. “The video shows that during the deployment the child was also in the hands of the mother,” the statement continued. “The child was not injured during the arrest. The child was examined by the Westland EMT and turned over to the mother.” The statement also indicated that the “investigation is only in the beginning phase.” The video clearly showed Brown being tased with his baby; eyewitnesses were screaming in the moment he was tased while holding the baby; the child’s mother said the baby flew out of Brown’s hands while he was being tased; yet the cops still managed to spit out this statement? Make America great again. Video Shows Cop Gunning Down Fleeing Man, But Police Downplay Possible Murder Charges

N ashville police defended the white officer seen shooting a fleeing Black man in the back on a video released Wednesday (Aug. 8), as the Black community demanded justice. See Also: The Disturbing, Growing Trend of Police Fatally Shooting Suspects In The Back Without Consequence James Smallwood , president of the Nashville Fraternal Order of Police, argued Wednesday at a press conference that the video doesn’t “paint a complete image of what occurred that day,” the Tennessean reported. He underscored the police report that said Daniel Hambrick had a gun when Officer Andrew Delke  shot him on July 26, adding that Delke made an “absolutely necessary and reasonable” snap decision. Meanwhile, after viewing the same video, community members  met Wednesday night at the Jefferson Street Missionary Baptist Church and demanded an immediate shakeup of the police department. “I think [Police Chief Steve] Anderson needs to resign or the mayor needs to let him go,” the Rev. James Turner II said. Thankful for my squad. Got me through today without cursing out every politician in sight who voted against ⁦ @OversightNow ⁩, ignored demands for Jocques, + the black preachers who continue to aide in this insanely traumatic cycle. #DanielHambrick https://t.co/3mZFKn2nrv — Gicola A. Lane (@GicolaLane) August 9, 2018 Delke approached the vehicle Hambrick was in, believing that it was the same car he saw earlier that day driving erratically, according to police investigators. Hambrick, 25, and two others fled from the officer. Surveillance video, released by the prosecutor, shows 25-year-old Delke chasing Hambrick. The officer opens fire on Hambrick, who does not appear to turn toward Delke. After firing multiple times, the officer circles the dying man while continuing to point his weapon at him. While the police alleged that Hambrick had a gun, the video does not appear to show him carrying a weapon. Hambrick’s family wants the officer charged. “The police officer fired four times, three of those bullets ripped Daniel apart. He fell to the ground, where he was cuffed and left, left there like a dog. Worse than a dog,” said Jo Kimbrough , attorney for the Hambrick’s family. “I’m a criminal defense attorney. If there is ever a case of premeditated first degree murder, this is it,” the lawyer continued.
