Kim Kardashian Hardly First Celeb To Be Flour-Bombed

Ryan Seacrest, Lindsay Lohan are among other public figures who have been punk’d in public. By Kara Warner Kim Kardashian Photo: Tommaso Boddi/ WireImage Not surprisingly, there has been much ado over the flour-bombing of Kim Kardashian Thursday night at the West Hollywood launch of her new fragrance line, True Reflection. Kardashian is, after all, a generator of countless news headlines — sometimes one of the reality star’s generic comments on Twitter is enough to warrant a news item — and the fact that she was attacked with a flour bomb during a red-carpet appearance is certainly newsworthy. Kardashian is not the first celeb to fall victim to a flour bomb, however. The recent incident brings to mind several others that have involved a few of our favorite public figures taking some flour and other seemingly harmless household items to the face. Ryan Seacrest The most recent “bombing” incident involved funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen and Ryan Seacrest , Kardashian’s E! colleague. Cohen made headlines with his heavily publicized appearance at the Oscars in character as Admiral General Aladeen of his upcoming movie “The Dictator”; he then made waves around the world when he greeted Seacrest for an interview by tossing “ashes” (which turned out to be Bisquick) all over the host. Bob Dylan Although the beloved rock icon took home Album of the Year for his Time Out of Mind at the 40th Annual Grammy Awards in 1998, the moment that everybody remembers from that night came during Dylan’s performance of “Love Sick,” when a shirtless man named Michael Portnoy stormed the stage and began . The rocker definitely took notice of the stranger with the words “Soy Bomb” written across his chest, but he barely batted an eye before security came out to remove him. Lindsay Lohan Lindsay Lohan was the unfortunate victim of a “bombing” by animal-rights activists in 2008. She and then-girlfriend Samantha Ronson were outside a Paris nightclub when three activists used flour to express their distaste for Lohan’s fur stole. Lohan has a history with PETA, having been named to their Worst Dressed List in the past. Tom Cruise During one of his many red-carpet appearances in 2005 for “War of the Worlds,” Cruise was surprised by a jokester posing as a journalist who attempted to prank Cruise with a trick microphone that squirted water in the action star’s face. Cruise took the man to task for the incident. “Do you like thinking less of people, is that it?” Cruise asked, preventing the man from fleeing the scene by reaching across the metal barrier and holding his arm. “Don’t run away,” he said. “That’s incredibly rude. I’m here giving you an interview and you do that … it’s incredibly rude.” Various Politicians There are almost too many victims to name at this point, but more than a few politicians have been victims of glitter bombs , acts of protest by activists meant to bring awareness to gay rights. The list of victims includes Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Michele Bachmann. Glitter-bombers beware, though: The act carries possible jail time and a hefty fine for those who get caught.

Solange & Cassie Are V Magazine’s “Fearless Females” Of Music [PHOTOS]

See the article here:

Solange, Cassie, VV Brown and more ladies are featured in V magazine’s annual “Music Issue.” Named “Fearless Females” by the publication, the women discuss the recording process, sounds you’ll hear, and messages they want to deliver on their new albums. SOLANGE On her new album: There are a lot of songs about sex. It’s the kind of record you put on when your man is coming over, when you’re with your girls. There are songs that make you wanna dance because we were kind of partying our way through the record, but it’s very chill. My references for the record were all Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, not just their typical Janet and Prince stuff, but SOS Band and their b-sides with Chaka Khan. At first the songs were really dark because I had a premonition before the record that I was going to die. I was having panic attacks and wiling out. [But] I don’t need anyone telling me ‘this isn’t cool enough’ or anyone from the opposite end saying ‘this seems kind of weird.’ I’m lucky enough to have been in this business for so long that I know how it works. It’s not that hard. It’s not rocket science. On her new domestic role: Now being in a stable situation, sometimes that feels f**ked up within itself. I’ve been on the road my entire life since I was 13, even when I had my son he came on the road with me. Now that he’s in school where there is a real structure, we have to be home during those times. Being that grounded feels really foreign to me. Solange Goes Off On Twitter, Defends Beyonce & Baby! CASSIE On her new album: I have hundreds of songs recorded for this album. I’ve been working on it for a long time. Finally, I had to decide my direction. I felt kind of exposed when I stopped working in the studio. My friends would call me to hang out and I would say, ‘nope, going in the studio,’ and they’d say, ‘you’ve been in the studio for four years!’ At the time I made the record I went out to Ibiza and I really started to feel these jungle beats. But at the same time I wanted to keep the ‘Me and U’ tone, really simple and clean. I have a lot of friends who are DJs and they like to mix, so I like to leave a really clean skeleton with the vocal. In my video we called it ‘giving ’90s supermodel.’ It’s the perfect definition of who I am right now and what I’m going through. People aren’t going to expect me to come out with what I have.” Cassie Wears Next To Nothing In “King Of Hearts” Video [PREVIEW] VV BROWN On her new album: My second album has a message: it’s about my generation and things going on in the world, but I didn’t want it to come across preachy. I love writing upbeat songs with darker undertones. Sometimes you want to shy away from political things because people will tell you to leave that to the politicians, but I want my fans to hear a message that is about questioning the world and getting them to question what fame is. I find it difficult to even say the word ‘fan.’ We’re all the same. As a generation, let’s evolve and shift away from celebrity culture, I think it’s really unhealthy. MTV Kicks Off Election Coverage With ‘Power Of 12’

Andrew Jenks will hit the campaign trail to talk to young voters and GOP hopefuls in the doc ‘Our Voice,’ airing Tuesday at 4:54 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. By James Montgomery Andrew Jenks speaks with young voters in “Power Of 12: Our Voice” Photo: MTV News On Tuesday, MTV will officially launch the Power of 12 , our coverage of the 2012 election, beginning with the premiere of the documentary “Our Voice.” The doc follows filmmaker Andrew Jenks as he crosses the country — and hits the campaign trail — to speak with young voters about the issues that concern them most, and the Republican candidates that are vying for their support. “Our Voice” will debut Tuesday at 4:54 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. And if you think you know everything about the concerns of the nation’s 45 million voters ages 18 to 29 (or the GOP hopefuls currently courting them), well, you’re in for an eye-opener. Because, as the 25-year-old behind MTV’s doc-style series “World of Jenks” told MTV News, he thought he did too. It was only when Jenks hit the road that he discovered how much he didn’t know. Check out a preview of ‘Power of 12: Our Voice’! “You read blogs or you watch the cable news, and you keep hearing that young voters are disenfranchised, that they don’t trust the system or the politicians,” Jenks said. “And sure, there’s a feeling [among young voters] that the rug has been pulled out from underneath them, but at the same time, the thing that I kept hearing when I’d talk to them is, ‘I’m optimistic.’ They’re concerned about the future of the country, but they’re convinced it’s not too late. People my age feel that they have the power to change the system, even if they think it’s broken. “When I first learned I’d be covering the Republican candidates, I was excited because I knew we’d be able to use this as a platform, to look at these candidates and ask, ‘How are you going to speak to us, the young voters?’ ” he continued. “Because for really the first time, we do kind of have the power. We are 45 million people and we can tilt the election. They have to listen to us and speak with us, because we have the leverage.” “Our Voice” — which features interviews with GOP candidates Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, Ron Paul and more — is just the first phase of MTV’s Power of 12 campaign, which aims to inform and engage young voters and amplify their voices throughout the 2012 elections. Upcoming specials include “When I Was 22,” an MTV News documentary kicking off in early 2012 that gives viewers a unique look at the lives of presidential hopefuls. Candidates will look back on their own lives — back when they were 22 years old. Each episode will paint a portrait of the candidate at a younger age, focusing on their dreams, triumphs, setbacks and the moments of resiliency that ultimately shaped their world view. Additionally, “Fantasy Election ’12,” an online game similar to fantasy baseball and football fantasy league games, that allows users to draft a team of candidates pursuing the White House, Senate and House of Representatives and rack up points. The first-of-its-kind game also rewards players for getting involved in the electoral process — they’ll get extra points for registering to vote, “checking in” to town halls and debates, and discussing issues with friends. MTV News will begin its coverage of the election on the ground in Iowa and New Hampshire, with Jenks and MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway at the helm. For more on MTV’s election coverage, check out the Power of 12 . And make sure to catch the premiere of “Our Voice” on Tuesday at 4:54 p.m. ET/PT on MTV!

Earth Day 2011: Environmental Justice For Black Communities?

Read the original here:

This week marks the one year anniversary of the Gulf Oil Spill disaster and the day to honor the earth, April 22nd, Earth Day .  These events brings awareness to the question, what is the future for environmental justice for black communities? Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis, shares his thoughts about environmental justice with his article, A Black America Earth Day: Let’s use Earth Day 2011 as an opportunity to raise more awareness in our communities about the importance of environmental concerns and issues.  We have to connect the dots.  The health of our communities is impacted by the environment of our communities.  Did you know that many of the growing lists of so-called “learning disabilities” that affect too many of the children in the Black American community maybe environmentally related to exposures from lead poisoning and other toxic substances laced in many of our neighborhoods?  The overall quality of life in Black America can be and should be improved if we all become more conscious and involved with understanding the importance of demanding and adhering to environmental justice. (Read the entire article) Will.i.am has together with DipDive just released this  video titled “Take Our Planet Back” which focuses on energy, climate and environmental issues and topics. The video calls for citizens and their leaders to deal with the serious environmental problems that our planet faces. The video features clips of Al Gore, montages of the various environmental challenges we face, and will.i.am singing. Watch it: Below you can find the lyrics for Will.I.Am’s music video “Take Our Planet Back”: Al Gore: Today, I challenge our nation to commit to producing 100% of our electricity from renewable energy and truly clean carbon-free sources within 10 years. Calling all the leaders to lead us out the hole Asking all deceivers the things I want to know If we’re so technological Why’re we still burning oil ‘Cause I got a car you plug into the wall that’s faster than a GTO We shot for the stars, put rovers on Mars, make planes like UFOs So why are we borrowin’ money from China to buy oil from the Gulf and destroyin’ the world Al Gore: Every bit of that has to change… Now that’s got to change Now that’s got to change (Chorus x3) We’ll stand up We’ll stand up and take our planet back You and me We’ll stand up We’ll stand up and take our planet back Talkin’ ‘bout we Talkin’ ‘bout we Talkin’ ‘bout Calling all the citizens (Al Gore: Citizens…) Citizens of the land Ask you your politicians (Al Gore: Political Leaders…) All these questions If we fight another war on terror Why aren’t we fighting for the environment We spend a billion dollars on wars in foreign lands But nothin’ on education Nikola Tesla turned the Niagara Falls into energy way back when (Al Gore: Energy…) And we’re still burning coal (Al Gore: Coal…) When you can make electricity with solar and wind (Al Gore: Solar and wind…) Now who’s getting played? You and me And who’s getting paid? (Chorus x3) We’ll stand up We’ll stand up and take our planet back You and me We’ll stand up We’ll stand up and take our planet back Talkin’ ‘bout we Talkin’ ‘bout we, we, we, we I’m askin’ all the citizens to take action (Al Gore: Citizens…) Take action and take back the government Tell the government to start taxin’ pollution Makin’ laws ‘cause that’s the solution It should be against the law to make pollution So if they make products that do what the other products do But they didn’t pollute, what are you gonna choose? Al Gore: We should tax what we burn, not what we earn. To those who say the challenge is not politically viable I suggest they go before the American people and try to defend the status quo And then bear witness to the people’s appetite for dramatic change The time is now. Please leave your comments below to let the Elev8 community know what will you do to help the environment?  Are you doing anything now, to create a better world for future generations? Tipping Point: 25 Signs That The Coming Financial Collapse Is Now Closer Then Ever

The financial collapse that so many of us have been anticipating is seemingly closer then ever. Over the past several weeks, there have been a host of ominous signs for the U.S. economy. Yields on U.S. Treasuries have moved up rapidly and Moody's is publicly warning that it may have to cut the rating on U.S. government debt soon. Mortgage rates are also moving up aggressively. The euro and the U.S. dollar both look incredibly shaky. Jobs continue to be shipped out of the United States at a blistering pace as our politicians stand by and do nothing. Confidence in U.S. government debt around the globe continues to decline. State and local governments that are drowning in debt across the United States are savagely cutting back on even essential social services and are coming up with increasingly “creative” ways of getting more money out of all of us. Meanwhile, tremor after tremor continues to strike the world financial system. So does this mean that we have almost reached a tipping point? Is the world on the verge of a major financial collapse? added by: Revelation1217

Weekday Vegetarian: Mushroom Dumplings in Vegetable Broth

And when it’s that cold you really want something warming and comforting. Hauling stuff out of my refrigerator, I came up with enough ingredients to make mushroom dumplings. … Read the full story on TreeHugger

50,000 MW of Nation’s Dirtiest Coal Plants Could be Shut Down

Photo: Richard Harrison , Geograph, CC The EPA is planning on increasing the pollution controls on coal plants — a move that is being fought tooth and nail by industry and the politicians who support it. And they’re fighting for good reason: The new regulations, which, among other things, will clamp down on the amount of toxic pollution (sulfur dioxide, mercury, etc) coal plants can emit, will likely cause a massive wave of coal plant closures — or hefty, hefty fines — across the nation. … Read the full story on TreeHugger
