Source: Bernard Smalls / @PhotosByBeanz Saturday (July 13) parts of Manhattan was hit by a blackout that left some New Yorkers feeling like it was 2003 all over again. Over the weekend, Cardi B , Offset , friends, and family didn’t let the power shutting off while celebrating their daughter, Kulture’s 1st birthday party ruin the moment. Thank @itsjeremyscott @moschino for this beautiful custom outfits .I swear i really really was thing to get a good pic A post shared by MOSTHATEDCARDI (@iamcardib) on Jul 14, 2019 at 7:29pm PDT Cardi and her husband made sure the party remained lit despite it being impacted by the power outage that saw a large area of NYC go dark. Cardi took to her favorite social media medium, Instagram to thank friends and family for helping to turn what could have been a significant negative into a positive. “ The fact that I wanted my daughter party in 42nd street instead of Jersey and to my fucking luck New York had a power outage right on that Deum area!!BITCH THE DEVIL! but WOW how a negative situation turn into a LITUATION !!!” When the lights went it out, the crowd stuck around with the power returning just in time for the cake cutting ceremony. Offset shared videos of the now 1-year-old ceremoniously sitting in a pile of colorful birthday cake while surrounded by guests. Cardi took time out of her day to praise those who powered through having to deal with no air conditioning and other stressful conditions that could have seriously made the special day a logistical nightmare. B lack youth are displaying excellence in academia. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution , a group of Atlanta scholars took home the title at an annual debate competition hosted by the Harvard Debate Council. The Great Debaters II: Atlanta debate team dominates Harvard tournament – again https://t.co/fkZh5vUrp7 pic.twitter.com/lyKTwfRTzw — WSB-TV (@wsbtv) July 13, 2019 This was the second consecutive year that the Atlanta Great Debaters won the international tournament organized by the Ivy League school. In preparation for the debate the team—who is predominately made up of students of color—participated in a two-week summer program focused on public speaking, competitive debating and political science. After the workshops the students ended their experience with a program tournament; competing against over 400 scholars from around the globe. The students were placed on teams of two. High schoolers Keith Harris and Don Roman Jr. went undefeated in the tournament. “It sends a message to the world to what African American youth are capable of, if they are given access and opportunities,” Brandon P. Fleming , founder of the Harvard Diversity Project. “Most of our students have never been exposed to the power of academic debate. Knowing that they will compete against hundreds of scholars who have years of debate experience, combined with the benefit of private and prep schools to their advantage, we seek to level the playing field by introducing our students to higher level academic disciplines that are typically unavailable in traditional school settings.” Both Harris and Roman were excited to take home the title. They both hope that their win will inspire other Black students to join debate teams. “Our accomplishment is far bigger than us. We are showing the world what black youths are capable of achieving when given equal access, exposure, and opportunities. This win is for our ancestors, our city, and most of all our culture,” Roman told the news outlet. Program organizers are now gearing up for the 2020 residency. Part of that anticipation is not only the final farewell to Ghost, Tommy and company, it’s hearing the sulty sounds of bald-headed R&B legend Joe belt out the hook of a generation “They say this is a big rich towwwwwnnnn…” Inexplicably, Fofty has chosen to remix the classic intro and he’s asked Trey Songz and A-Boogie With The Hoodie to join him in the desecration. Yeah. Naw.
Since its debut in 2014, Power has been one of the most consistent shows when it comes to nudity, featuring at least three naked women in every one of its five seasons to date…. read more
Source: Matt Winkelmeyer / Getty On the most recent episode of “Red Table Talk,” musician and actor Common sat down with Jada Pinkett-Smith , Gammy and Willow to discuss the tension that existed between him and his daughter Omoye, learning his triggers in romantic relationships and his relationship with Angela Rye these days. Check out the highlights below. — Jada : I was really moved by your book in terms of you repairing your relationship with your daughter. Because we had a little bit of that in our house. Will just thought that winning, he thought providing was enough. Until one day, Willow was like, ‘This is hurting me.’ Willow : I don’t even think it was a conversation. It was just me choosing to be like ‘No.’ Jada : This was during the “Whip the Hair.” It took her and that relationship for him to stop and reevaluate what is love. Common : My daughter Omoye confronted me. It was a late-night call so I thought I was getting a call like, ‘I’m a cool dad.’ It was 2 in the morning. I had to start a film the next day so I said, ‘Ima call you back. Let’s talk tomorrow.’ And she called me right back like, ‘Yo, you don’t even care. You ain’t even see where I was at.’ And it really, it shook me for a minute. I was like, ‘What are you talking about? I do care.’ And her mother and I weren’t together. Eventually, that conversation turned into her saying you weren’t there for me, you didn’t fight for me as a father. It made me feel defensive. I was hurt and I was mad too. I was like, ‘You really believe some of this stuff.’ What I really learned, after I got past my own ego, I said, ‘Look, you right, I didn’t fight.’ And I had to acknowledge that. I just need to listen to her because this is what she’s feeling. No matter what I think I’ve done and this and that, this is how she feels. And that was one of those the heavens open moments and how to apply love more. Jada : In the way it looked for her. You probably thought you were doing your thing. Common : I didn’t grow necessarily with my father, right? So a lot of ways I learned to be a man is from my homies and other father figures. And the provide and protect are the two most important things we learn. And I’m a caring individual but I had to get past just providing and protecting because love is a action word. That type of understanding and just paying attention is what we weren’t equipped with… When you put the truth on the table, it strengthens the relationship. Omoye was harboring those feelings. She felt like, ‘I didn’t always have my dad here so if I tell him some stuff he did wrong, I’ll have him less.’ Once she was able to put it out, she felt liberated and free. And now, she’s more secure in the fact that you can tell your dad whatever you need to tell him and the love is going to be there. We had our own therapy session together. And she was smart about it. She was like, ‘Dad, before this book come out we need to resolve this.’ We’re doing great overall, she just graduated from Howard University. Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news. ( Terms and conditions ). His daughter’s reaction to learning he had been molested. Common : She was like did this really happen to you? I was like, ‘Yeah.’ And that’s when she started processing. and she said, ‘I really am proud of you.’ When your daughter tell you she’s proud of you, you feel that. His relationship with his mother affecting his romantic relationships with women Common : My mother gave me all the love she could but some of that love was even pain because of her and my father not being together and that struggle. A single mother sometimes will put the responsibility of a husband on a young boy. And the child is like, he’s trying to do his best but he can’t do what a husband can do, just providing the emotional energy and love. And that eventually transfers into an intimacy avoidance. So anytime that show up in a [romantic] relationship, you’re like no. You’re like this feels familiar in a bad way. And the mothers they don’t know they’re doing that. They’re just trying to offer their love. I’ve been in situations where I’ve been in a good relationship but the woman, she needed certain things and I felt like it was being too much. It reminded me of my mother. I need to identify is this really happening and if it is, I should be able to communicate that and say the things I need. And that’s what the therapy has helped me with. And I’m like, ‘Black people, let’s use therapy, man.’ From a personal level to a generational level, we can use it to heal. Jada : There was a line in the book where you thought love was desire. Common : Men really identify this yearning for this person being a love thing. When that in love, honeymoon phase goes, I would go, ‘This don’t feel as good.’ I would start coming up with excuses on why the relationship is not gon work. ‘When I’m in relationships, I don’t do work as well.’ My albums are not as good or I don’t focus. And I really believed that. Sign Up For Our Newsletter! Close Thank you for subscribing! Please be sure to open and click your first newsletter so we can confirm your subscription. Email Submit Wanting to be a husband Common : For a long time, I was in and out with that. Do I really wanna be a husband or am I doing this because this is what society says to. Now, I just want that partnership to be able to experience life, where I’m growing as a human being and it’s fun too. I know it’s hard at times. Whether or not he’s dating Angela Rye again? I am dating and I have a great companion and that companion could be that person right there. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1381799071971109 This story was originally published on MadameNoire.com . One of the moments that has people talking is Brie Larson’s much-deserved victory, ta king home the award for “Best Fight” for her work in Captain Marvel . It was a tough category to win, beating out some serious contenders like her fellow Marvel pals Chris Evans and Josh Brolin for their fight in Avengers: End Game , along with Maisie Williams for her fight against the White Walkers in Game of Thrones . Out of all the contenders, Brie took home the big prize for her incredible show of strength throughout Marvel’s first female-led film–and what’s even more amazing than her accomplishment alone is how she chose to accept the award. The actress ended up bringing her Captain Marvel stunt doubles, Joanna Bennett and Renae Moneymaker , on stage to accept the award. She introduced both ladies, saying, “I could not have made this film without them. They are really the baseline of who she is. They are the living embodiment of Captain Marvel .” After that, the star stepped aside to give the other women their shine, letting them give their own respective speeches about what it was like to work on this film together. Leah Messer isn't messing around, y'all! The mother of three might be the most soft-spoken of all the Teen Mom 2 stars, but if you push her beyond her limit, you can be certain she'll give you an earful. Leah's temper is on full display this week thanks in part to a persistent rumor that she's undergone major cosmetic surgery. Online trolls say they have proof that she's significantly changed her face. Leah says they're just a bunch of jealous haters with too much time on their hands. Who's telling the truth? Examine the evidence and decide for yourself: 1. Don’t Mess With Messer It takes a lot to piss Leah off, but once her temper flares up, watch out. 2. Random Targeting For reasons that remain unclear, Leah has been the target of choice for various trolls and haters on social media in recent weeks. 3. Brutal Stuff For some reason, the bullies who have been flooding Messer’s comments lately have focused on two specific types of insults. 4. Surgical Strike A surprising number of commenters are insisting that Leah recently underwent several cosmetic surgeries. 5. Under the Knife? At this point, the rumor is so widespread that even Leah’s fans have begun to believe it. Some have gone so far as to compliment her on the results of her non-existent procedures! 6. Even though Southern Charm star Kathryn Dennis boned Whitney Sudler-Smith again , they’re not dating, yet alone married. Her castmates are struggling to understand why she’s spending money like she’ll one day inherit from Patricia Altschul. In a new interview, Kathryn is explaining her reckless spending. Season 6 of Southern Charm has brought a lot of joy to viewers … and a lot of criticisms about Kathryn’s current lifestyle. The wise Cameran Eubanks openly suggested that Kathryn is burning money by renting her house for $6,000 a month. (We know that home ownership comes with hidden costs, but it can’t be as bad as what Kathryn’s shelling out) The striking Naomie Olindo took aim at Kathryn’s needlessly fancy car — a Rolls Royce, calling it “foolish.” She also pointed out that the public perception of Kathryn living such an opulent lifestyle is “not great.” Optics matter, folks. In a new interview with Bravo’s The Daily Dish podcast, Kathryn makes it clear that she’s well aware of what her friends have said about her. “I will say that they were coming from a good place,” Kathryn quickly acknowledges of the criticism. She suggests that “That conversation got misconstrued and polarized.” “The spending habits,” Kathryn says. “They know nothing about my spending habits, quite frankly.” Seeing a girl driving around in a Rolls Royce tells you enough, though, right? Despite her insistence that her castmates don’t know as much about her business as they think, Kathryn changes her tune. “In retrospect,” she begins. “After a few more things happened.” Well, that’s vague as heck. “I realized whether or not they know what place they were coming from,” Kathryn admits. “I was making irrational, irresponsible decisions regarding money, etc.;” Better late than never, huh? “However,” she notes. “I caught myself soon enough.” “My entire life has been basically making a mistake and learning afterward,” Kathryn points out. That’s true for everyone, whether we admit it or not. That’s how people learn and grow. “But luckily,” she says. “I have good friends.” Kathryn clearly appreciates her friends “who try and help guide me in the right direction.” Is that her version of a thank you? “I’m very hard-headed,” Kathryn freely admits. Deeply relatable. “So,” Kathryn confesses. “I still kind of will do what I’m going to do.” “But,” she notes. “Life is a perpetual learning experience.” It certainly is! “And,” Kathryn concludes. “I’m trying my best.” Kathryn Dennis is absolutely right about how everyone is learning and growing from their experiences — including their mistakes. That said, she is a mother of two. While her worst mistakes (Thomas Ravenel) are in her past, she does need to make sure that she’s making the best possible decisions for her chidlren’s future. We know that she has endorsement deals, a furniture line, and a reality career. But while she’s doing well for herself as a 26-year-old, she doesn’t have the kind of wealth that justifies dropping 6 figures on a car. Fortunately, she is (now) acting like she knows that. View Slideshow: Kathryn Dennis: I Can PROVE Thomas Ravenel is an Unstable Liar!
