How Precious: The Black Mamba Says Voting Became More Important To Him After He And Vanessa Had Their Lil Laker Babies

How cute is this picture of Kobe Bryant with wife Vanessa and kiddos Natalia And Gianna? The Black Mamba is flexing his blogging skills in a new write-up about voting and how his kids help motivate him to the polls. Via iVillage.com : Why vote? The idea that each vote matters and that we individually have the power to influence how we are governed is why so many of our men and women have made the ultimate sacrifice. WE MATTER. That’s a powerful feeling, one that I’ve taken for granted in the past. In the past I believed that not exercising my right to vote would not make a difference in who became the next president so why should I take the time to learn the issues? I’d rather be shooting hoops! The change occurred when Vanessa and I had our babies. Neither of us grew up in politically charged households so the issues weren’t things we were necessarily excited to read about and discuss to say the least. It was ESPN for me and “Carrie Fever” (Sex and the City) for her. (Yes, I watched the show and loved it… It was quite “informative.”) As parents, the importance of the world we live in became a priority. Nothing is more important than the future of our little munchkins. They are now nine and six and are learning about the civil rights movement and the fight for women’s rights so they naturally have questions. Why were African Americans forced to sit in the back of the bus? Why couldn’t women vote? The most important answer we can give them outside of the ones found in our history pages is that our world has CHANGED for the better because individuals fought for their rights while inspiring others to do the same. We tell them, YOU too can change the world if you so dream and that YOUR opinion matters, YOU MATTER. Yes, voting is about doing your part as a responsible citizen but what really moves us to vote and learn about the issues is the example we set for our children and honoring the history of DEMOCRACY that our beautiful country stands for. Thank you for your time. Don’t forget to vote. That was really touching and for a moment we almost forgot what a tool-bag the Kobester is. But seriously, we should applaud his effort to motivate the public to exercise their civic duty. Keep up the good work Black Mamba! On another note, y’all peeped how he made the Hov reference about Vanessa talking about “Carrie Fever.” We think somebody must be trying to improve his public image and show how his matrimony-dom is still going strong.

Jay-Z Makes Case For President Obama in New Campaign Video

With the 2012 election exactly three weeks away, Jay-Z has released a new ad for President Barack Obama’s campaign, entitled “The Power of Our Voice.” Jay-Z Obama Ad – The Power of Our Voice Interwoven with clips of Obama’s own September 1 speech, Jay’s two-minute video praises the White House occupant, crediting him for giving so many people “hope.” “The hope of people all across the country who would look and see themselves and know the possibilities,” the rapper and music mogul tells the camera. “For so long there was this voice that was silenced our there and I think it was silent because people had lost that hope.” The spot shows Obama at the Made in America festival, where he praised Jay-Z for making it without coming from privilege as a testament to the “promise of this country.” Obama and Mitt Romney square off tonight in the second of three presidential debates. Can he turn it around after Romney won the first debate so convincingly? On October 3, Obama seemed to have the edge in 2012. Now, his prospects have dimmed considerably, with most polls showing the race tied or close to it. We know who Jay’s voting for. How about you?   Obama-Biden Romney-Ryan View Poll »

A “Lil Positivity”–Oprah’s Posted Up On The Cover Of Forbes Magazine!

Oprah’s on the cover of Forbes standing in between billionaires Warren Buffett and Bill Gates. The media mogul is ranked #139 amongst the “Forbes 400″ and is on other lists including #11 Power Women, #2 Celebrity 100, #442 Forbes Billionaires (although she’s #148 in United States). According to Forbes Magazine: Warren Buffett, Oprah Winfrey, Bill and Melinda Gates–it was a gathering of giants. Forbes simply had to take a picture. On June 26 we convened the first-ever Forbes 400 Summit on Philanthropy, a gathering of 161 billionaires and near-billionaires intent on solving the world’s most intractable problems. During a break in the action, twelve of the nation’s leading philanthropists sat for a group portrait by photographer Michael Prince in the Trustees Room at the New York Public Library. The net worth in the room: $126 billion. The historic photo folds out as the cover of the 30th annual Forbes 400 issue, the definitive ranking of America’s wealthiest people. Near the end of the day, we took a dozen of the greatest living philanthropists in the world, put them in one room, and took an unprecedented photograph. There was no digital wizardry, or Photoshop sleight of hand — as the accompanying video underscores, they were all in one place at one time, and even the most jaded among them couldn’t help but look around the Trustees Room at the New York Public Library and go, “wow.” This may not end world hunger but we’re proud of Oprah’s efforts to give back. Good to see her recognized as a philanthropist on Forbes’ 400 list! Wonder why Mitt wasn’t included in this group?? Images via Forbes Magazine
