Madonna’s ‘Girl Gone Wild’ Video: Five Key Nods To Her Past

From ‘Vogue’ to ‘Human Nature,’ MTV News points out the many nods to the Queen of Pop’s legendary music videos. By John Mitchell Madonna in her “Girl Gone Wild” video Photo: Interscope The video for video for “Give Me All Your Luvin,” “GGW” is not plot-driven, but rather an assemblage of striking images that recall the dark, sexed-up era she ushered in with her “Vogue” video and which reached its apex with the release of her “Sex” book and Erotica album. Madonna makes references to her iconic past throughout the video, meshing vintage M with her current self seamlessly. Below are the five key references we noticed in the “Girl Gone Wild” clip: “Erotica” From Madonna’s big, diva-like bleach-blond hair to those chains and leather-brief-wearing men, the dark, sexy vibe here is pure “Erotica”-era Madge. The clip for “Erotica” was markedly grittier, employing camera filters and sleazy locations (and, you know, bridles and whips) to give off an S&M vibe. If “Girl” isn’t as gritty in its approach to sex, it’s also far less off-putting. The sex stuff in the “Erotica” video is more of an artful expression of fetishism than it a series of “wow, that’s hot” moments, like those featured in “GGW.” But as usual, M delivers plenty of edgy eye candy. “Vogue” Those moves! Those angular, cutting arm, leg and body movements. Check. A bunch of scantily clad male dancers posing in formation. Check. In addition to being shot entirely in black-and-white, the dancing in “Girl Gone Wild” is a direct callback to the sharp moves from “Vogue.” A few times in the video (check 1:10), Madonna and her dancers are definitely “vogueing” — or at least as close to it as she’s gotten since she struck her most famous pose in 1990. There’s also something to be said for the gay culture references in both videos. Madonna made vogueing mainstream in 1990 with her hit, but the highly stylized form of dance was actually born in the late-’80s Harlem gay ballroom scene (see the amazing documentary “Paris Is Burning” if you want to know where vogueing really came from). She embraced the connection then and appears to be doing the same here. In “GGW,” we have two male models gnawing on the same apple, dancers in heels (and little else) and many, many suggestive close-ups celebrating the male form. “Human Nature” The “Human Nature” video is most remembered for Madonna’s black latex bodysuit, and she resurrects the look for “GGW .” Beyond the suit itself, the “Nature” video also cast Madonna and her dancers in all black and set them against an all-white background, a style choice she uses frequently throughout “Girl.” Like the “GGW” clip, the vid for “Nature” was directed by a well-known fashion photographer, Jean-Baptiste Mondino, who also helmed Madonna’s controversial video for “Justify My Love.” “Justify My Love” Speaking of which, Her Madgesty is getting awful handsy with her sexy dancers here, and late in the video, we find Madonna and her dancers really going for it, writhing in a pile and feeling each other up. The “Love” video was, of course, banned from MTV in 1990 for its depictions of sex acts. Set in a voyeuristic hotel, the “Love” clip includes what we can only refer to as an orgy sequence, and she recalls that a bit here, albeit in a tamer fashion. The scene in “GGW” is less explicit because it’s not as direct about its subject matter — being sexy is part of the “GGW” narrative, while making a grand observation about full-on sex was at least part of the point of “Justify My Love.” “Like a Prayer” Madonna wouldn’t be Madonna without a direct reference to religious iconography. Here, we get a dancer wearing a crown of thorns. Her video for “Like a Prayer” famously featured Catholic symbols, including stigmata and burning crosses, and a dream about making love to a saint on an alter. Madonna herself has even donned a crown of thorns onstage. During her performance of “Live to Tell” on her Confessions Tour, Madonna sang from a massive mirrored cross while sporting the crown. Nicki Minaj’s ‘Beez in the Trap’ Sparks Drama Between Rival DJs

New York’s DJ Clue and Funkmaster Flex compete over bragging rights to world premiere of Minaj’s latest Roman Reloaded single. By Rob Markman Nicki Minaj Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images After two of New York City’s biggest rap radio DJs faced off on Tuesday night, there was clearly only one winner: Nicki Minaj . With Nicki’s April 3 release date for Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded inching closer, disc jocks are clamoring for exclusives from the YMCMB star, and Power 105’s DJ Clue and his rival, Hot 97 DJ Funk Master Flex, tussled over bragging rights to the Queens MC’s latest track. It all started Tuesday morning when Nicki retweeted a DJ Drama message urging fans to tune into DJ Clue’s show later that evening to hear the world premiere of Minaj and 2 Chainz’s Roman Reloaded collaboration, “Beez in the Trap.” But Clue didn’t get a chance to drop the exclusive as it hit the Internet hours before his show went on air. Flex then took credit for playing spoiler by hacking into DJ Clue’s email and lifting the track. Clue quickly hit Twitter to refute Flex’s account, ending his note with the hashtag #CompulsiveLiar.” Whatever the order of events, Nicki’s “Beez in the Trap” single clearly came out on top. The ’80s-inspired track is a departure from “Right by My Side,” the R&B duet that Minaj and Chris Brown released earlier on Tuesday. Instead, “Beez” finds the Harajuku Barbie once again taking aim at unnamed rap chicks. “Bitches ain’t sh– and they ain’t sayin’ nothin’,” she boasts on over a sparse drum track. Underground favorite 2 Chainz doesn’t compromise a thing spitting alongside the multiplatinum rapper. He drops a charismatic 16-bar verse where he goes on about his Lexus LS 450, True Religion jeans and his pimp ways. With the newly released Roman Reloaded tracks, Nicki seems to be striking a balance between melodic pop tracks (“Starships,” “Right By My Side”) and the rap fare that she came into the game with (“Stupid Hoe,” “Roman Reloaded”). “April 3 is gonna be a doozy. It’s gonna be crazy,” Nicki promised when MTV News caught up with her at the NBA All-Star Game in February. “It’s gonna be important for just hip-hop culture and pop culture. It’s gonna be very big.” What do you think of Nicki Minaj’s “Beez in the Trap”? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Nicki Minaj

Ashley Tisdale Bikini Pics of the Day

I rip into Ashley Tisdale enough to encourage her to kill herself…I even have a series of posts that are called “Ashley Tisdale Ugly Watch” that all stemmed from her winning a purchased teen choice award I just knew a call center in India was hired to vote on all day, making her the winner of some “hottest chick” lie that just couldn’t be fucking possible based on her face…even after the nose job..it was impossible…and as she accepted the award…all I could think about was how this would negatively impact the youth…the women of tomorrow…were ugly girls going to be confused and think they were hot too… Then….I went through a phase where I gave the bitch credit…I said, okay she has a shitty face, she knows she’s not hot, otherwise she wouldnt’ have got surgery or spent so many times hiding her face fromt he paparazzi, but she does work out over and over again….and like all butterfaces I’ve known…that is always the right approach…it’s like you don’t just fuck a bitches face, her body has the power to erase her fucking face, and if it is fit…shit dude…that’s fun to cum all over… But now…lloking at her in her bikini….her litle pudge from her period or something….I’m not digging it….I see ugly face, ugly hair, behind hat and glasses and a body….that doesn’t fucking rape me or make me want to rape when half naked…..I think it’s just time for her to hit up retirement. Save the bikinis for hot chicks. To See the Rest of the Pics FOLLOW THIS LINK

Lady Gaga has never come across a topic that she won’t open up about. And in a new, candid interview with Oprah Winfrey on her show ” Oprah’s Next Chapter ,” Mother Monster chats about someday actually becoming a mother. “Yes, I want kids, I want a soccer team and I want a husband,” she said in the special, which airs Sunday on Winfrey’s OWN cable network. “Yeah, I do. Well, you know, I’m being superfluous. I don’t want to have one kid. I want to have a few.” Gaga, who is currently planning her Born This Way world tour , noted that her plan to be a mom won’t happen anytime soon. “I want to experience that,” she said making a baby bump with her hands and laughing, “[but] not yet.” Most of the special was filmed in Gaga’s native New York City, but part was also filmed at Harvard University last month. The singer and the talk show host were on hand at the prestigious college to launch Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation . “I just have one thing to say before we get started: We got Oprah! … Thank you from all of us — from my entire team, from my mother, from the bottom of the hearts of so many people who believe in what we’re doing today,” Gaga said at the launch. She explained that the foundation seeks to empower the youth of America, adding, “How can we inspire young people to know they have the power to be brave?” Related Artists Lady Gaga

‘Kony 2012’ Video Went Viral With Rihanna’s Help

‘She had been tweeted by her fans en masse, saying you’re in this video,’ Jedidiah Jenkins of Invisible Children organization tells MTV News. By Jacob Soboroff Rihanna Photo: Getty Images At noon Pacific time last Monday, Jedidiah Jenkins, a member of the nonprofit organization Invisible Children’s inner circle , saw the group’s 278th YouTube video uploaded and wasn’t sure what to expect. Jenkins had written the script to the film, the 30-minute documentary “Kony 2012,” about the Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony, and it had been a grind. “It was really the hardest movie we’ve ever made” in the nearly decade-long history of the group, he told MTV News in a phone interview from Los Angeles. The film is now the most viral video ever, with more than 70 million views on YouTube alone in the video’s first six days thanks in no small part to an army of young supporters who flexed their power by using social media to drive celebrities and friends to watch and share the video. Creating online content and distributing it with social media was nothing new for Invisible Children — the group already had 450,000 Facebook friends the night before the video was posted and they’ve used YouTube to share videos about their cause since 2006 — but the way this video spread was something the group could never have planned. Jenkins said the group posted the video at noon on Monday and that evening hosted a screening at Creative Artists Agency in Los Angeles with celebrities Kristen Bell and Jason Bateman, who took to Twitter at 9:42 p.m., immediately after watching the film. “We had a strategy to screen it at CAA with the few celebrities we know, get them in the room, make them watch it,” Jenkins said. Within the 24 hours that followed, celebrities including comedian Kelly Oxford, Ryan Seacrest, Diddy, Justin Bieber, Oprah and Steve Carrell had tweeted about the video after being notified about it by their fans thanks to a call-to-action in the documentary. Soon enough, Jenkins’ phone was ringing off the hook, including a call from Rihanna . “She had been tweeted by her fans en masse, saying you’re in this video,” Jenkins recalled. “She just kind of responded and clicked on the link that one of her fans followed. It blew her mind. She tweeted it immediately. One of her music video directors, Anthony Mandler, actually went to Uganda with me to see our programs on the ground in November. Anthony texted her. They conference called me at 11 at night and I missed the call twice, because I was at a late dinner. Three calls in a row means it’s an emergency,” so Jenkins picked up. “Anthony said, ‘Jed, I have Rihanna on the line. She wants to talk to you.’ ” Jenkins continued. He recalled the 24-year-old singer saying, “I’ve never been moved like this, I’ve never been involved. I want to go big. I want to get involved. I want this to be my thing and I want to blow this up. I want to get kids involved. I’m just responding to my fans. They’re so moved by this.” Wherever you land in the debate over the organization’s tactics and the film’s accuracy, “Kony 2012” is undeniably a social media phenomenon made possible by support from celebrities encouraged to get involved by their young fans. Even CNN’s Piers Morgan admitted he first heard about the movement from his 14-year-old son. As of press time, Invisible Children has nearly 3 million likes on Facebook, and the question remains: What’s next for this enormous group of engaged and active young people when so many of their peers are apathetic? Jenkins said the group is considering participating in a voter-registration drive as the 2012 election approaches. But he admitted that first he and his colleagues have to get caught up. “We couldn’t have ever, ever imagined that this would be the fastest viral movement in history,” he said. “We are dealing with an unprecedented amount of attention. It’s a huge amount of responsibility. It’s exhausting. We’re excited for the challenge, but it’s intimidating too.” Related Artists Rihanna

Diddy Chooses His Favorite Track From B.I.G.’s Life After Death

‘People are buying that album every day. It’s a classic album,’ Diddy tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Diddy The Notorious B.I.G. had high hopes for his second LP, Life After Death. “I want people to buy [my new] album and just straight up say, ‘Yo, he’s the best. He’s the best ever. He’s the best that ever did it,’ ” Biggie said in a 1997 Source magazine interview before he was murdered on March 9, 1997. Big never got to see the public’s reaction to his 24-track, double-disc masterpiece — it was released on March 25, 16 days after his death. Fifteen years and 10 million copies later, there is no denying the power of LAD. Biggie mixed inescapable singles like “Hypnotize,” “Mo Money, Mo Problems” and “Sky’s the Limit” with dark and brooding underground classics like “Ten Crack Commandments” and the DJ Premier-produced “Kick in the Door.” Everyone has their favorites, even the Notorious B.I.G.’s friend and Bad Boy CEO Sean “Diddy” Combs. “Aww man, Life After Death ? It would probably have to be …,” Diddy responded when Sway asked him to pick his #1 LAD track while the two were on the set of a Miami video shoot in January. ” ‘My Downfall,’ ‘My Downfall’ is my favorite joint.” The Hitmen-produced track is a gut-wrenching display of Brooklyn bravado. “My Downfall” is prefaced by a skit in which Biggie receives death threats over the phone, exemplifying the type of resentment that Big’s success brought out in his detractors. With rap legend DMC on the song’s hook and Diddy adding fiery ad libs, B.I.G. eerily pondered his own death. “Dying ain’t the sh–, but it’s pleasant,” he rapped as if he were foretelling his own fate. It was a theme that was revisited quite a few times on the classic rap LP, particularly on the album-closing “You’re Nobody (Til Somebody Kills You).” For the album’s 15-year anniversary, Diddy said he is planning to release a remastered version of Life After Death, but beyond that, not much else. “We basically gonna let it rock, we have promoted it, promoted his legacy through movies, documentaries, albums, remixed albums, new albums and now it’s time for the fans to have it,” he said. “On the 15th anniversary, we’ll definitely make sure that there is a remastered copy out there, but besides that we’re not gonna do anything extra to extra push it. People are buying that album every day. It’s a classic album and they’re gonna keep on buying it.” A representative from Bad Boy Records told MTV News that at press time there was no Life After Death remastered LP on the label’s release schedule.
