Good news for the folks who can’t afford to break the bank for a shady overpriced iPad2 … Amazon just unveiled their new tablet — the Kindle Fire and it’s sposed to be very comparable. At a press event in New York City on Wedesnday, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos took the wraps off the company’s tablet offering. The Kindle Fire will sell for $199, will run a modified version of Google’s Android operating system, will feature a 7-inch display and will be deeply integrated with Amazon’s cloud storage system and its massive online content library of books, music and more. According to AllThingsD’s live blog of the event, pre-orders open for the Fire on September 28; devices will ship November 15. Ahead of the official announcement, Bezos gave Bloomberg Businessweek some of the details about the tailor-made OS and the content that will be available on the Fire. “Amazon has painted over the rough surfaces of Google’s Android operating system with a fresh and easy-to-use interface and tied the device closely to its own large and growing content library,” Bloomberg explains, based on a briefing from Bezos. “Kindle Fire owners can watch the film Rio, scroll through magazines such as The New Yorker or Esquire, and access their music collection on Amazon’s servers.” The device will also run a custom-built “split browser” called Amazon Silk, which “accelerates the power of the mobile device hardware by using the computing speed and power of the Amazon Web Services Cloud,” according to a statement provided by Amazon. “The Silk browser software resides both on Kindle Fire and on the massive server fleet that comprises the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2),” Amazon’s statement also reads. “With each page request, Silk dynamically determines a division of labor between the mobile hardware and Amazon EC2 (i.e. which browser sub-components run where) that takes into consideration factors like network conditions, page complexity, and cached content.” GDGT’s Ryan Block notes that the WiFi-only Kindle Fire is merely a “stopgap” product, hence its pre-holiday release. Writes Block, “[M]y sources tell me the second-gen Kindle tablet will be out in Q1 of 2012 — yes, that soon.” This Kindle Fire definitely sounds like it can compete, especially since Amazon has such great ebook services. Sure, her “Rolling in the Deep” clip was nominated for seven awards at last month’s VMAs, but that track — much like her current smash, the stirring “Someone Like You” — became better known for its near-ubiquity on radio. And so far, it remains the only video released from her massive 21 album. But that’s about to change. Because on Thursday, at 7:56 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, she’ll unveil the second clip off the record, for “Someone Like You.” And since we know you probably can’t wait, we’ve got an exclusive sneak peek of the video now. Shot in Paris and directed by Jake Nava (who’s done work for Kanye West, Britney Spears and Shakira), “Someone Like You” is a somber, black-and-white affair, featuring Adele wandering the early morning streets and pining for her long-lost love. It’s a perfect match for the song’s jaw-dropping emotional range — raw and unfiltered and incredibly sad but also, in a lot of ways, beautiful and resolute. “The location evokes style and romance,” Nava said in a statement. “And shooting early in the morning allows you to focus on Adele in this lonely and emotional space.” So while you count the hours until the official premiere of “Someone Like You,” have a look at this exclusive preview — it’s certainly piqued our interest. On Thursday, the Trap Muzik MC will have completed his current prison bid for a probation violation that stems from a September 2010 arrest for drug possession . His longtime collaborator DJ Drama looks forward to brighter days. “Me and Tip have been friends, working together for almost a decade now, so we know what we gotta do. It’s really time to get to work and get to the music,” said Drama, who has present during T.I.’s recent recording sessions that he’s been allowed to hold since being in a halfway house. “So I’m just happy when I was in the studio with him to really see where his focus was at musically and I was excited for the fans to hear it sometime real soon.” T.I.’s imprisonment was not only a blow to the hip-hop community, but it also left a void in his hometown of Atlanta. “It’s always a good feeling,” Drama said of the prospect of having Tip free yet again. “When somebody like Tip, who is so influential in the city, isn’t around, we all feel it in a lot of ways. I look forward to it; I’m happy, man. Bottles on me.” Drama couldn’t confirm whether the Grand Hustle CEO will make an appearance at this Saturday’s taping of the 2011 BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta. It would be fitting that he make his return on BET’s stage, but it’s also where T.I.’s legal drama began , when he was arrested on federal gun charges in October 2007 just hours before that year’s ceremony. The DJ, who is preparing the release of his own album, Third Power, was able to talk about Tip’s first post-prison track. The song, which is produced by rapper/producer Big K.R.I.T., was supposed to drop Monday but has not yet surfaced. “The record is hot,” Drama teased. “Big K.R.I.T. deserves it. Thanks to some incredibly gifted, and we’re sure very persistent, publicist, someone thought asking Gloria Govan and Matt Barnes about their love life as parents would be interesting. It wasn’t. But part of it did bring up an interesting question for us… Gloria, how do you and Matt keep things exciting? Do you have date nights? We’re super sappy. We’re into the rose petals and candles and balloons. He leaves me notes everywhere — like in my car, my purse, and places I would never think to look in, like my sunglasses case — and then I just find them throughout the day. They’re really brilliant notes. He’s always encouraging and supportive. He’s so cute. We used to have date night a lot, but now that the boys are older, we stay up later, so it’s hard. We have this really cool balcony that overlooks the water that’s very romantic and chill and we end up there just talking. We catch each other up. We get up and we’re like, wow, it’s 1 o’clock in the morning. We try to chill. We used to go on walks all the time, but with my schedule and his schedule it’s hard. Plus, I’m trying to do “Dancing with the Stars” next season so it’s just going to get even worse. I’m excited. I love to dance… I love to cut a rug. It’s fun just to let it loose. Okay, beyond the mystery that is what qualifies someone as a “star” as far as “Dancing With The Stars” is concerned, that answer left us so confused. If Matt is writing sweet notes and doing all types of thoughtful, romantic-y things all the time, and y’all are oh so in love WHY ARE YOU STILL NOT MARRIED??? Source
