The Obama family is officially supporting the movement via social media. Michele Obama Tweets Photo Supporting #BringBackOurGirls Movement The FLOTUS officially tweeted her support of the #BringBackOurGirls movement . After President Obama officially addressed the issue to the media earlier this week and the US swore support in rescuing the young ladies earlier today , Mrs. Obama made a simple, yet powerful statement with the above picture, accompanied by the following tweet: Via ABCnews : First lady Michelle Obama joined the #BringBackOurGirls movement on Twitter Tuesday afternoon. The tweet is signed “-mo,” which means the first lady herself penned the message. The hashtag has become a rallying cry for women and men fighting for the release of nearly 300 girls captured by Boko Haram, a terrorist organization in Nigeria. In the 23 days since the girls first went missing, the hashtag has been shared over a million times. Many prominent pols–from Hillary Clinton to Michelle Bachman–have joined the movement. Earlier this week President Obama called the girls’ abduction “heartbreaking” and “outrageous.” What a powerful public statement. Thankfully, Nigeria is accepting US assistance in retrieving the girls. Hopefully American involvement can help resolve the issue before these girls are all sold off ! Photo: Twitter

A day after audio of Donald Sterling blasting his girlfriend for publicizing her interactions with African-American hit the Internet, another tape of the Los Angeles Clippers being very racist has gone public. In footage obtained by Deadspin, Sterling continues to talk down to V. Stiviano, saying of the black players on his team: “I support them and give them food, and clothes, and cars, and houses. Who gives it to them? Does someone else give it to them?” Donald Sterling Audio: More Racist Comments! He went on to tell Stiviano he’s not afraid of replacing her with another girlfriend because she doesn’t support his views on race. Hours after his initial comments hit the Internet, Sterling responded in a statement that said what is reflected on the recording is the “antithesis” of what he really believes about minorities. Elsewhere, President Obama has joined the chorus of those castigating this billionaire. “When ignorant folks want to advertise their ignorance, you don’t really have to do anything. You just let them talk. That’s what happened here,” Obama told reporters during his trip to Malaysia. He added that Sterling’s comments were “incredibly offensive” and are an example of how the “United States continues to wrestle with the legacy of race and slavery and segregation.” “That’s still there, the vestiges of discrimination,” the President concluded. “We’ve made enormous strides, but you’re going to continue to see this percolate up every so often.” Meanwhile, TMZ has obtained the photo of Stiviano and Magic Johnson from Instagram, the one that set Sterling off on his racist rant to begin with:

President Obama Talks GOP Voter Suppression Efforts At 2014 NAN Convention Earlier today in New York City, President Obama took to the stage at the 2014 National Action Network Convention to address an intimate crowd of press, political peers, a handful of celebrity guests and a small group of lucky ticket holders. During his short and simple but fired-up speech the POTUS addressed the growing problem of voter suppression across the country in anticipation of the upcoming mid-term elections. BOSSIP was in the building to hear the President speak and slam Republicans for openly making it more difficult to vote when they themselves are trying to gain votes. Check out a few excerpts from his speech below. On certain groups of people (minorities, women, elderly, etc.) still having to fight for voting rights in the U.S.: “This recent effort to restrict the vote has not been lead by both parties. It’s been lead by the Republican party. If your strategy depends on having fewer people showing up to vote, that’s not a sign of strength. That’s a sign of weakness. And not only is ultimately bad politics, ultimately it is bad for the country.” You’d think this wouldn’t be an argument anymore, but the stark, simple truth is this: The right to vote is threatened today, in a way that it has not been since the Voting Rights Act became law nearly five decades ago Across the country, Republicans have led efforts to make it harder and harder for people to vote.” On continuing to fight for equal voting rights: “We’ve GOT to continue to press for equal voting rights. Every American that wants to vote should be able to vote. The single most important thing we can do to protect our right to vote, is to vote.” On being questioned about the validity of his birth certificate last year: “Just to be clear, I do know where my birth certificate is (laughs). I think it’s still up on a website somewhere. Do you guys remember that? That was crazy. I haven’t thought about that in a while.” You can watch a clip from from President Obama’s speech earlier today, below. Voter suppression is one of the biggest threats to the minority community in terms of getting our voices heard, so hopefully people are paying attention to the GOP suppression efforts and finding ways to fight back.

Yet another shooting at Fort Hood military base… Shooting Reported At Fort Hood In Texas A military base is suppose to be a very secure place and yet they have psychos running loose with guns. SMH. via NY Times As many as four people were killed and 14 were wounded after a gunman in uniform opened fire at Fort Hood on Wednesday, shutting down the sprawling Army base and inciting a huge police response, a member of Congress said. The shooting echoed the deadly rampage carried out there in 2009 by an officer who turned on his fellow soliders. Officials at Fort Hood released few details about the shooting but said that it appeared that the gunman was among the dead. On a conference call with reporters, Mr. McCaul said the authorities had identified the suspect as Ivan Lopez but that a motive for the shooting remained unclear. The shooter was wearing an Army uniform, but it was unclear whether he was on active duty, Mr. McCaul said. In Chicago, President Obama described the shooting as a fluid situation that White House and Pentagon officials were closely following. “We are going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened,” the president said. “We’re heartbroken something like this might have happened again.” Gun contol in this country is a must.
