Via The Grio reports: Football fans did not appreciate the interruption and instead erupted in numerous racist and offensive tweets on Twitter. One Division II, University of North Alabama player, Bradley Patterson tweeted: “Take that ni**er off the tv, we wanna watch football!” Later in the evening, UNA Athletic Director Mark Linder tweeted that this player was no longer a part of the team. “Thx 2 everyone who brought the inappropriate tweet to our attention. @UNAAthletics does not condone. He is no longer a member of the team,” Linder tweeted. This is absolutely disgusting! Heroic teacher Kaitlin Roig did whatever she could to protect students as gunman Adam Lanza stormed Newtown, Connecticut’s Sandy Hook Elementary School. In an interview with ABC News, the third grade teacher described how she barricaded all 14 of her students into the bathroom connected to her classroom: Kaitlin Roig, Hero Teacher “I put one of my students on top of the toilet,” she recalled. “I just knew we had to get in there. I was telling them ‘It’s going to be OK, you’re going to be alright.’” “I had pulled a bookshelf, before I closed a door, in front of it, so we were completely barricaded in.” Her quick thinking likely saved the lives of 14 young people and herself Friday morning. She told students that they had to remain absolutely quiet fearing that the gunman or gunmen might hear them and begin shooting at the bathroom door. “There are bad guys out there now, we need to wait for the good guys,” she told them. Adam Lanza killed 26 people at the school, including principal Dawn Hochsprung and 20 children. He also killed his mother and himself, bringing the toll to 28. The Connecticut school shooting ranks among the worst mass murders in United States history. President Obama will visit Newtown on Sunday.
The first photos of Adam Lanza have been released, along with more information on the 20-year-old responsible for the Connecticut school shooting massacre yesterday. The Newtown, Conn., native was a child of the suburbs and of divorce who still lived with his mother, Nancy, in the quiet town about an hour from N.Y. City. Friday, he began his day by shooting Nancy in the face. As if that weren’t disturbing and tragic enough, he then drove her car to nearby Sandy Hook Elementary School, armed with two handguns and a semi-automatic rifle. There, before turning his gun on himself, he shot and killed 20 children. Six adults were also killed at the school. Nancy Lanza was found dead in her home. A relative told ABC News that Adam was ” obviously not well .” Family friends in Newtown described the young man as troubled and described Nancy as rigid. “[Adam] was not connected with the other kids,” said one. “A little bit different … Kind of repressed.” Federal authorities believe his mother may have once worked where the Connecticut school shooting occurred, although she was not a teacher, as originally reported. Nancy and her husband Peter, Adam’s father, divorced in 2009. Peter Lanza, who drove to northern New Jersey to talk to police and the FBI, is a vice president at GE Capital and had been a partner at accounting giant Ernst & Young. Adam’s older brother Ryan Lanza , 24, has worked at Ernst & Young for four years, following in his father’s footsteps and carving out a solid niche in the tax practice. He too was interviewed by the FBI, but neither he nor his father is under any suspicion, despite erroneous reports originally naming Ryan Lanza as the killer. “[Ryan] is a tax guy and he is clean as a whistle,” a source familiar with him said. Ryan Lanza (above, right) sent out a series of Facebook posts saying it wasn’t him and that he was at work all day. Video records and card swipes at Ernst & Young confirm that. Two federal sources say that an ID belonging to Ryan Lanza was found at the scene of the mass shooting, perhaps leading to the initial conclusion. Neither Adam Lanza (above, left) nor Ryan has any known criminal history. Sig Sauer and Glock handguns were used in the slaying, and .223 shell casings – a round used in a semi-automatic military-style rifle – were also found at the scene. Nancy Lanza had numerous weapons registered to her, including a Glock and a Sig Sauer, plus a semi-automatic Bushmaster rifle, which holds .223 caliber rounds. Friends and relatives of the Lanzas in New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts are being interviewed by the FBI in an effort to put together a better picture of the gunman. “I think the most important thing to point out with this kind of individual is that he did not snap this morning and decide to act out violently,” said FBI profiler Mary Ellen O’Toole “These acts involve planning and thoughtfulness and strategizing in order to put the plan together so what may appear to be snap behavior is not that at all. President Obama cried during a press conference when describing the “beautiful little kids” between five and 10 years of age who had been slain.

According to The Huffington Post : Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee (R) weighed in on the massacre at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. on Friday, saying the crime was no surprise because we have “systematically removed God” from public schools. “We ask why there is violence in our schools, but we have systematically removed God from our schools,” Huckabee said on Fox News. “Should we be so surprised that schools would become a place of carnage?” This line of reasoning isn’t new for Huckabee. Speaking about a mass shooting in Aurora, Colo. over the summer, the former GOP presidential candidate claimed that such violent episodes were a function of a nation suffering from the removal of religion from the public sphere. “We don’t have a crime problem, a gun problem or even a violence problem. What we have is a sin problem,” Huckabee said on Fox News. “And since we’ve ordered God out of our schools, and communities, the military and public conversations, you know we really shouldn’t act so surprised … when all hell breaks loose.” How about we put more money in to our health system and mental care instead of pointing fingers and blaming religion? These girls are on fire…..literally Afghan Women Setting Themselves On Fire To Avoid Domestic Violence Young women in Afghanistan are resorting to life-threatening measures by doing what they see as they only way out of a life of abuse at the hands of their husbands….and sometimes even their own family members. via ABC News “My brother-in-law, mother-in-law, and my father, they were all beating me. They wouldn’t let me go outside.” Outwardly, the young girl once so full of life in the western Afghan city of Herat, looks just like the other patients in this hospital wing: Young, afraid, and wrapped in white bandages nearly from head to toe. But her medical report, like the others, carries a dark secret. “From day one, I wasn’t happy,” she continues. “I didn’t want to be married to him, but my parents forced me. The place where I got married is far from the city, and I didn’t want to go there.” Cultural norms dictated Wahida be a “good wife” and do as her father instructed. Before long, she’d given birth to a baby girl, a mark of shame, according to some Afghans, that her first born wasn’t a boy. After the birth, the beatings got worse. Eventually, they became so regular, so severe, that Wahida did the unthinkable. She set herself on fire. When she was brought to the hospital, her in-laws insisted it was an “accident.” Their story: Wahida, like a good Afghan wife, was cooking in the kitchen when suddenly a gas cooking canister exploded. Admitting the young woman had set herself on fire would bring shame to the family’s honor, and had to be covered up at all cost. This story, and the many others like it, are truly heartbreaking. According to NPR , the bullies won and now the GOP has to find someone, or something else, to knock down: Moving to withdraw her name from among those being considered to be the next secretary of state, embattled U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice has told President Obama she does not want to be nominated. The White House just released a statement from the president that says, in part: “Today, I spoke to Ambassador Susan Rice, and accepted her decision to remove her name from consideration for Secretary of State. For two decades, Susan has proven to be an extraordinarily capable, patriotic, and passionate public servant. As my Ambassador to the United Nations, she plays an indispensable role in advancing America’s interests. … “I am grateful that Susan will continue to serve as our Ambassador at the United Nations and a key member of my cabinet and national security team, carrying her work forward on all of these and other issues. … “While I deeply regret the unfair and misleading attacks on Susan Rice in recent weeks, her decision demonstrates the strength of her character, and an admirable commitment to rise above the politics of the moment to put our national interests first. The American people can be proud to have a public servant of her caliber and character representing our country.” ‘If nominated, I am now convinced that the confirmation process would be lengthy, disruptive and costly — to you and to our most pressing national and international priorities,’ Rice wrote in a letter to President Obama, saying she’s ‘saddened by the partisan politics surrounding her prospects.’ Rice has been the target of sharp criticism from many Republicans because of what they have charged were misleading statements she made in the days after the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya, in which the ambassador and three other Americans were killed. Critics say she downplayed the role that terrorists played. The administration says she relied on information provided by the intelligence community. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has said she plans to step down sometime in the coming months. Among others thought to be leading contenders for the job is Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass. ATL Mayor Kasim Reed Confirms Support Of Gay Marriage Following the foot steps of states like Washington, D.C., New York and Massachusetts, ATL mayor Kasim Reed has now confirmed that he is in support of gay marriage. via Politico In another sign of the rapid evolution of the politics of gay marriage, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed announced Tuesday that he supports marriage equality. “It is well known that I have gone through a good bit of reflection on this issue, but listening to the stories of so many people that I know and care about has strengthened my belief that marriage is a fundamental right for everyone. Loving couples, regardless of their sexual orientation, should have the right to marry whomever they want. By signing this resolution, I pledge my support to marriage equality for same-sex couples, consistent with equal protection under the law provided under the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution.” Reed’s statement comes seven months after he explained that he is “still wrestling with my own personal beliefs on the issue of marriage,” the non-committal position he took after President Obama formally endorsed gay marriage in May. This is a pretty big deal for obvious reasons, including the fact that Mayor Reed did not initially back President Obama’s bombshell decision to publicly support same-sex marriage. Does Barack Obama owe the City of Detroit a bailout? One city councilwoman seems to think so. Via MyFoxDetroit : The city of Detroit faces a major financial crisis and one member of city council thinks President Barack Obama should step in and help. City Council member JoAnn Watson said Tuesday the citizens support of Obama in last month’s election was enough reason for the president to bailout the struggling the city. “Our people in an overwhelming way supported the re-election of this president and there ought to be a quid pro quo and you ought to exercise leadership on that,” said Watson. “Of course, not just that, but why not?” Nearly 75 percent of Wayne County voters pulled the lever for Obama in November. “After the election of Jimmy Carter, the honorable Coleman Alexander Young, he went to Washington, D.C. He came home with some bacon,” said Watson. “That’s what you do.” Young served as Detroit’s mayor for 20 years and served as vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1977 to 1981. The White House has expressed no plans to bailout the cash-crunched city that some experts say could run out of money by the end of the year. The federal government has bailed out cities in the past, however. In 1975, President Gerald Ford extended more than $2 billion in credit to New York City to help it avoid a financial collapse.
