There are very few celebrities out there who support Donald Trump . And there are even fewer celebrities out there in the music industry who support Donald Trump. This is why the President-Elect has had trouble finding anyone on the A (or B… or C…) List to perform at his inauguration on January 20, 2017. In the end, Trump's team settled on Jackie Evancho to sing the national anthem at this historic event. The decision has led to at least one widespread question around the Internet: WHO IS JACKIE EVANCHO? Get to know her below… 1. She Rose to Fame on America’s Got Talent At just 10 years old! Belting out opera songs, Jackie finished second in 2010. 2. She’s a Record-Setter After coming in second on America’s Got Talent in 2010, she became the youngest solo artist to release a platinum-selling album with “O Holy Night.” 3. Since Her Run on AGT… … Evancho has experimented with a number of genres. She has released multiple albums, including several Christmas collections and a record of film and showtune covers. She also released a pop single in April of 2016. 4. She Has Political Experience Political SINGING experience, that is. In 2010, she sang at the lighting of the National Christmas Tree and got to meet President Obama. She also sang at the official D.C. Fourth of July celebration in 2016. 5. Her Sister is Transgender At 18 years old, Juliet came out last year. She’s actually part of a lawsuit against a Pennsylvania school district over restroom access, attempting to overturn legislation that states students can only use the restroom that corresponds with their gender at birth. 6. She Has a Favorite Type of Movie It’s a “love story,” Jackie once said. We’re guessing she’s a fan of The Notebook. View Slideshow
Yesterday morning, Donald Trump, soon-to-be president of the United States, sat down for a meeting with Kanye West. Man, 2016 is just SO extra. The meeting lasted about 15 minutes , and after it was over, the best buds were nice enough to pose for some photos. When asked, Trump told reporters that he and Kanye have “been friends for a long time,” and that when they hang, they just talk about “life.” It was all just incredibly bizarre, and probably just a ridiculous attempt from Trump and his team to get people to talk about anything besides Russia . After all, why else would a man who is about to take the highest office in the land sit down with the rapper who did “Golddigger,” married Kim Kardashian, then had a mental breakdown ? Well, lucky for us, Kanye was kind enough to hop on Twitter for a moment to break everything down. What did he and Trump really talk about? What do his very public endorsements for Trump mean for his own political aspirations? Yeezy’s got the answers, y’all. “I wanted to meet with Trump today to discuss multicultural issues,” he tweeted yesterday evening — also confirming that the meeting was his idea. “These issues included bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago,” he continued. “I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future President if we truly want change.” He then tweeted a “2024” hashtag, which is truly terrifying because we can only assume it means that he believes Trump will serve two terms as president, pushing his own campaign back to 2024. What did we ever do to deserve any of this? Serious question. Ideal answers will arrive in the form of a soothing lullaby or a haiku recited during a back rub, thanks. But hey, don’t let your guard down yet, because Kanye has one more ridiculous shot to fire. This morning, he shared this photo: So that’s Trump’s Time Person of the Year issue that the PEOTUS — let’s just shorten that to POS, sound good? — gave to Ye. And on the cover, he actually wrote “To Kanye: You are a great friend. Thanks, Donald Trump.” Note how he underlined the word “great.” OK, then note how this is exactly what a third-grader would write in a yearbook. Again: what did we ever do to deserve any of this? Republicans In Ohio Pass “Heartbeat Bill” Banning Abortion The United States government has a sick obsession with telling women how they are supposed to treat their bodies . The issue of abortion has been hotly contested for YEARS now, and in the days before Donald’s inauguration, those opposed to the often-necessary medical procedure have decided that now is their chance to rule women’s wombs. According to CNN , Ohio Republicans have passed what is known as the “Heartbeat Bill” which bans abortion (regardless of rape or incest) after a fetus’ heartbeat is audible. Usually that would occur about 6 weeks into a pregnancy. “One, a new President, new Supreme Court justice appointees change the dynamic, and that there was a consensus in our caucus to move forward,” Ohio Senate President Keith Faber, a Republican from Celina, told reporters after the final vote. Asked if he thought the bill would survive a legal challenge, he said: “I think it has a better chance than it did before.” Former Presidential candidate, Gov. John Kasich, now has 10 days to decide whether or not he wants to veto the bill. Hopefully he will. How arrogant is it to wield religious morality (because that’s really all anti-abortion people want to do) as a weapon against women, especially when the wielding is being done by men who don’t have to concern themselves with child birth? Joe Biden Announces Possible 2020 Presidential Run Many wondered why he didn’t get to it this year…but Joe Biden says he’ll get around to running for President about 4 years in the future. Via MailOnline : Biden told reporters in Washington on Monday that he is not ruling out a run for the White House, even though he would be 78 years old if he took the oath of office in a little over four years from now. The vice president reportedly made the statements with a smile, prompting some reporters to wonder if he was being serious. ‘Yeah, I am. I am going to run in 2020,’ Biden said when asked if he would run for office again. When the lame duck vice president was asked which office he wanted, he said: ‘For president. And also, you know so, what the hell man, anyway.’ Not too sure what that last little flippant part of his statement implied…but overall he seems open to it. Now mind you, Biden will be 78 years old by the time Trump’s shot at the top seat is done. Maybe that’s why he isn’t 100% about going for it…but considering. Would he have YOUR vote? AP/Getty/Twitter
Unemployment Drops To 9-Year Low Under President Obama Contrary to what the Republicans would have you believe, the American economy has improved since President Obama took office. According to White House reports, unemployment dropped to a 9-year low under the current administration… The economy added a solid 178,000 jobs in November as the longest streak of total job growth on record continued. U.S. businesses have now added 15.6 million jobs since early 2010. The unemployment rate fell to 4.6 percent in November, its lowest level since August 2007, and the broadest measure of underemployment fell for the second month in a row. Average hourly earnings for private employees have increased at an annual rate of 2.7 percent so far in 2016, faster than the pace of inflation. Nevertheless, more work remains to ensure that the benefits of the recovery are broadly shared, including opening new markets to U.S. exports; taking steps to spur competition to benefit consumers, workers, and entrepreneurs; and raising the minimum wage. Thanks Barry!
