If the average credit rating of these members is at least a minimum credit score, the lender continues to process the loan application. Finally, we Fitz calls Olivia and tells her he plans to deny Sally’s story and bring Mellie back to the White House. (Photo by Eugene Gologursky/Getty Images for The Africa-America Institute) Morehouse President John Wilson Said Africa’s Education Gap Must Be Addressed So Young People Aren’t Left Behind Morehouse College President John Wilson Jr. announced the school is working to create an online portal to reach the growing number of African students with little access to education. “We’re going to begin a new initiative, an online initiative, with some of the powerhouses in America,” Wilson said Tuesday night at the Africa-America Institute’s awards gala in Manhattan. “And we’re going to try to get at the 400 million youths in Africa, to give them a better head start than they would otherwise get, to supplement the educational infrastructure in Africa. And that’s Morehouse College in partnership with many others.” With half of Africa’s 830 million people under the age of 15, and just 700 universities on the continent compared with more than 6,000 in the U.S., Wilson said Africa’s education system simply couldn’t handle the glut of students that will soon swell its ranks. “There are 5.2 million students in higher education in Africa,” he said, “with 300 to 400 million in the pipeline, on deck, something must be done.” Morehouse’s portal project is a partnership between the historically black institution and Strive Masiyiwa, head of global telecom Econet Wireless, as well as others, Wilson said. The college president made the announcement right before he presented a business leadership award to Masiyiwa, who in 2012 launched a scholarship fund at Morehouse to send African students to school there. Wilson didn’t get into details in front of the crowd – which included former NBA player Dikembe Mutombo, Namibian president H.E. Dr. Hage G. Geingob and former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo – but he promised there was more to come. “Stay tuned for a major announcement about that later,” he said. Just an update on where things stood as we kicked off Scandal Season 5 Episode 1 and strapped in for the latest dose of Shonda-inspired craziness. Watch Scandal Season 5 Episode 1 Online The premiere opened with Sally Langston (a self-described “true American”) updating viewers via her “Liberty Report.” We watched as Fitz hosted a state dinner in honor of Prince Richard of Caledonia marrying an Iowa farm girl named Emily, with Sally worried that it’s a ruse to butter up Queen Isabel in order to get a U.S. naval base built in Caledonia. But whatever, Sally. We weren’t paying attention your “Sodom and Gomorrah” warnings, not when your narration was being interspersed with HAWT Olitz sex scenes. Mellie, of course, was stewing when we saw her again, having been banished from the event due to an imaginary case of the flu. Mellie’s anger was not shocking, but this was: Olivia gets called to the scene of a horrible car crash, one that finds the new princess dead and the paparazzi snapping pictures of her corpse. But Fitz wants his naval base and wants to gloss over that troubling truth, which leads to a fight with his girlfriend. (Side note: Olivia eventually finds Huck holed up in her apartment waiting for her to “fix” him. Through tears, she tells him, “You need a much better plan than me.”) Ready for another bombshell? Emily was pregnant at the time of her accident, due to an affair with her bodyguard. Olivia delivers this news to the Queen, only to discover that she did it. “Not all fairy tales have happy endings,” she tells Liv in a likely bit of foreshadowing. The premiere concludes with Huck showing up at Jake’s door and also with Fitz and Olivia out on the Truman Balcony, considering going public with their affair. But Sally makes that choice for them, ending the episode by telling the world to forget the “rumors” surrounding the President and his mistress. Steve Rannazzisi makes millions of people laugh each week as a star on The League. But no one found what the actor admitted to this morning to be funny. In a shocking, disturbing admission, Rannazzisi confessed that he lied back in the day about working in the World Trade Center at the time of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. “I don’t know why I said this. This was inexcusable. I am truly, truly sorry,” Rannazzisi said in a statement issued via his publicist. Of those who have chimed in on the scandal, many have taken note of Pete Davidson’s response because the Saturday Night Live cast member lost his father in those same attacks. “It’s ok @SteveRannazzisi people make mistakes,” Davidson initially Tweeted, awkwardly adding: “Can’t wait to meet my dad for lunch later.” But Rannazzisi appeared to have missed the joke, writing back in response: “Thank you Pete. I really appreciate it.” He eventually deleted this reply. However, and after speaking with Rannazzisi personally, Davidson then turned serious and Tweeted once more: “Take it easy on @SteveRannazzisi … He reached out to me and is truly sorry.
