Kimmy Cakes…Esq? Kim Kardashian Vows To Become An Attorney, Plans To Take Bar Exam In 2022

Source: Mathew Imaging / Getty Kim Kardashian Plans To Take The Bar Exam And Become Lawyer Kim Kardashian has mastered reality TV, fashion, make-up, and attention-sloring, but now she says she’s ready to master the law. According to TMZ , the mother of four revealed to VOGUE that she’s made the decision to become a full-blown attorney just like her daddy, Robert Kardashian. We’re not talking about a purchased law degree here, Kim says that she will work as an intern at a San Francisco law firm for the next four years and take the bar exam in 2022. “I had to think long and hard about this,” she says, gleefully devouring chile con queso with chips now that her Vogue shoot is over. What inspired her to embark on something so overwhelmingly difficult and time-consuming—even as she also runs a multimillion-dollar beauty enterprise—was the combination of “seeing a really good result” with Alice Marie Johnson and feeling out of her depth. “The White House called me to advise to help change the system of clemency,” she says, “and I’m sitting in the Roosevelt Room with, like, a judge who had sentenced criminals and a lot of really powerful people and I just sat there, like, Oh, shit. I need to know more. I would say what I had to say, about the human side and why this is so unfair. But I had attorneys with me who could back that up with all the facts of the case. It’s never one person who gets things done; it’s always a collective of people, and I’ve always known my role, but I just felt like I wanted to be able to fight for people who have paid their dues to society. I just felt like the system could be so different, and I wanted to fight to fix it, and if I knew more, I could do more.” Van Jones was quoted in the cover story and professed that he’s seen Kim do things that would lead her to be a legit attorney… And then the unexpected happened. “Kim Kardashian,” says Jones, “wound up playing this indispensable role, and a lot of people have gotten furious with me, saying I’m stealing the credit from African American activists who have been working on this issue for decades. And first of all, I’m one of them. But I was in the Oval Office with Kim and Ivanka and Jared and the president, and I watched with my own eyes Trump confess to having tremendous fears of letting somebody out of prison and that person going and doing something terrible, and the impact that that would have on his political prospects. He was visibly nervous about it. And I watched Kim Kardashian unleash the most effective, emotionally intelligent intervention that I’ve ever seen in American politics.” What do you think? Would you hire Kim Kardashian to get you or a loved one out of a jam?

How Taraji P. Henson Relates To ‘Best Of Enemies’ Character: You Always Feel Like You’re Fighting For Equality

See original here:

It’s undeniable that we are in tense times surrounding racism in the United States, so Taraji P. Henson ‘s new movie co-starring Sam Rockwell, titled The Best of Enemies may be exactly what we need. It tells the story of no nonense civil rights leader Ann Atwater and KKK President C.P. Ellis and the development of their friendship during the course of a charette to decide whether Durham schools should be desegregated in the 1950’s. Source: Derrick Salters/WENN.com / WENN HelloBeautiful had the opportunity to speak with Bill Riddick, who actually came to Durham from Raliegh to set up, organize and oversee the charette and encouraged Ann Atwater (played by Henson) and C.P. Ellis (played by Rockwell) to co-host it for full representation. Riddick discussed that a charette is designed to solve one specific problems, we joked during the interview that we need a charette right now in the United States. Henson was passionate about playing Atwater who was undeniably a strong character, “She was up against all these men, all these powerful men.” If you wonder how Henson was able to channel this for the character, she added, “I feel like that in this industry.” Rockwell stated he read the script and knew that this was an important film to make. As someone who has seen the film (and actually lived in Durham for four years), I highly recommend it. You’ll walk out feeling hopeful for a new future and re-energized to make change. Trump Has A New Trick To Win The Black Vote, But Will It Work This Time?

Read more from the original source:

D onald Trump appears to have a new trick up his sleeve to finally win the Black vote despite the president’s open embrace of white supremacy . See Also: Meet Trump’s African-American Guests For His State Of The Union Address In his political ploy to be seen as a leader in criminal justice reform, Trump paraded several Black felons on stage during a press conference on Monday to promote his proposed second phase of the First Step Act. The bill, which passed in December and aims to reduce the number of incarcerated people. Trump said Monday that a “Second Step Act” will focus on “successful re-entry and reduced unemployment for Americans with past criminal records.” He noted that ex-convicts with criminal backgrounds are unemployed at rates up to five times the national average. In fact, African-American male felons are more disadvantaged than any other demographic group. He touted passage of the First Step Act during his State of the Union Address in February, but details of the measure were worked out by a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers and President Barack Obama before Trump took office. As the national movement to restore felon voting rights picks up steam, Trump likely sees an opportunity to capitalize on the votes of Black felons and their families who benefit from his proposed legislation. At the press conference, Trump called Gregory Allen , who was released from prison early under the First Step Act, to the microphone. Allen called Trump’s so-called leadership on prison reform and his second chance as an example of what would “make America great again.” Powerful moment from @realDonaldTrump ’s Prison Reform Summit. Gregory Allen, one the people who have benefited from the #FirstStepAct explained, “Two months ago, I was in a prison cell and [now] I'm in the White House. Let’s continue to make America great again!” pic.twitter.com/0qioKSBUMN — Ronna McDaniel (@GOPChairwoman) April 2, 2019 Iowa is one of the latest states to take steps to restore felon voting right. The Iowa House last Thursday overwhelmingly passed a proposed constitutional amendment to grant voting rights to the ex-convicts. Alabama’s felons displayed the power of their newly restored rights in the 2017 election that helped to sweep Democrat Doug Jones into the U.S. Senate in one the nation’s reddest states. The biggest prize would be in the swing state of Florida where a 2018 referendum restored felon voting rights . Up to 1.4 million felons—disproportionately African-American—regained their rights to cast ballots under the referendum, reversing an 18th-century law that made it nearly impossible for felons to vote after serving their time in prison. Florida, which has banned more felons from voting than any other state, was blocking 21.5 percent of African-Americans from casting ballots , achieving the goals of felony disenfranchisement laws that were  historically intended to reduce Black voting power . White House senior adviser Jared Kushner , Trump’s son-in-law, told Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Monday that felons are part of the new coalition that Trump is building for re-election. At the press conference, Alice Marie Johnson , who had her l ife sentence commuted by Trump after Kim Kardashian lobbied the president, came up on stage to embrace Trump. Bye Bye, Biden: Former Nevada Candidate Lucy Flores Accuses Joe Biden Of Sexual Harassment

Source: Ethan Miller / Getty Joe Biden Is Being Accused Of An Inappropriate Kiss Say it ain’t so, Joe…. Former Nevada state assemblywoman Lucy Flores has accused Joe Biden of some unwanted touching in an article she wrote, titled, “An Awkward Kiss Changed How I Saw Joe Biden.” The piece gained a lot of traction after being published by  New York Magazine ‘s The Cut on Friday. This uncomfortable incident allegedly occurred at a campaign event back in 2014, when Flores was running for lieutenant governor. The politician says that Biden was there “to speak to my leadership and my potential to be second-in-command — an important role he knew firsthand.” But, according to Flores, Biden crossed some serious lines when he came up from behind her, smelled her hair, and then kissed the back of her head. Flores  writes : I felt him get closer to me from behind. He leaned further in and inhaled my hair. I was mortified. I thought to myself, ‘I didn’t wash my hair today and the vice-president of the United States is smelling it. And also, what in the actual fuck? Why is the vice-president of the United States smelling my hair?’ He proceeded to plant a big slow kiss on the back of my head. My brain couldn’t process what was happening. I was embarrassed. I was shocked. I was confused. There is a Spanish saying, ‘ tragame tierra,’  it means, ‘earth, swallow me whole.’ I couldn’t move and I couldn’t say anything. I wanted nothing more than to get Biden away from me. My name was called and I was never happier to get on stage in front of an audience. As for Biden’s response, his team released a statement saying that he has no recollection of a time when this incident would have happened. “Vice President Biden was pleased to support Lucy Flores’s candidacy for Lieutenant Governor of Nevada in 2014 and to speak on her behalf at a well-attended public event,” Bill Russo–a spokesman for Biden–said in a statement via The Hill . Russo continued, “Neither then, nor in the years since, did he or the staff with him at the time have an inkling that Ms. Flores had been at any time uncomfortable, nor do they recall what she describes…But Vice President Biden believes that Ms. Flores has every right to share her own recollection and reflections, and that it is a change for better in our society that she has the opportunity to do so. He respects Ms. Flores as a strong and independent voice in our politics and wishes her only the best.”

For example, Roc Nation , the entertainment company founded by Jay-Z, has become a major civil right player . One of its latest victories involved helping to clear 11-year-old  Jabari Talbot , who was arrested in February after he refused to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance in his 6th-grade classroom in Florida. That was at least the third time this year alone that Roc Nation had stepped in to offer legal assistance, adding to an impressive list of civil rights accomplishments that included helping to free rapper 21 Savage from immigration detention. Jay-Z was also instrumental in the release of Meek Mill from prison in 2018. He had spent nearly  five months incarcerated  after a controversial sentence for probation violation. “Shawn Carter has been committed to shedding light on the issues that plague the Black community including systematic racism and unjust treatment under the law, utilizing his global platform to create everlasting change. There is no better time than now, as we celebrate our 50th year, to honor him with this award,” said the NAACP’s president. The announcement about Jay-Z came amid controversy over the Image Awards nomination of Jussie Smollett . The actor was nominated for the most outstanding supporting actor in a drama series for his role as Jamal Lyons on the primetime TV show “ Empire. ” California’s Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters will also be honored this year with the NAACP Chairman’s Award and radio legend Tom Joyner will receive the Vanguard Award. Other award recipients will be revealed during the TV One’s live broadcast, which will be hosted by “ Black-ish ” star Anthony Anderson . Supernatural is Actually Coming to an End

The series some thought would never die, based around creatures who often refuse to die, is finally set to say goodbye. We never thought we’d see the day. But The CW announced on Friday afternoon that Supernatural will wrap its incredible run after its upcoming 15th season, which will consist of 20 episodes. Beloved stars Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins confirmed the news in a video posted on Instagram late this week. “Well, it’s official. One more round for the Winchester brothers. Though nothing ever really ends in Supernatural…does it?” Ackles wrote alongside this footage from the cast. Supernatural will conclude after 327 episodes, making it the longest-running sci-fi/genre series in the history of American broadcast television. Rather impressive, huh? “We just told the crew that though we’re very, very excited about moving into our 15th season, it will be our last,” Ackles says in the video, adding: “Fifteen years of a show that has certainly changed my life… And we just wanted you to hear from us that though we’re excited about next year, it will be the finale. The big, grand finale of an institution. The actors were barely able to hold it together in this message to fans. “We’ve cried some tears, and we’ll cry some more,” a very emotional Padalecki added. “[We’re] grateful, and we’ll work all the emotion into next season.” Said executive producers Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb in a joint statement after the news went viral: Firstly, we would like to thank all the people who have been involved with the show both in front of and behind the camera. For us it has been an experience of a lifetime. The support we have had from both Warner Bros Television and The CW has been incredible. We’d like to give special thanks to Jensen, Jared and Misha for making this journey so special. It is now most important to us to give these characters that we love the send off they deserve. We’re not crying over here, okay? YOU’RE the one who is crying. The CW President Mark Pedowitz has often said at the Television Critics Association press tour that if the ratings held up, the show would go on as long as Ackles and Padalecki wanted to do it. Elsewhere, series creator Eric Kripke said the following in a Tweet: #SPNFamily please remember: shows end. But family is forever. That never changes & that’s what you’ve created here. All my love & thanks to the cast & crew & most of all you, the family. #spn @cw_spn@jarpad @JensenAckles @mishacollins @andrewdabb @serathegamble @ben_edlund. Are you glad to see Supernatural ending? Slow Down, Senator Go-Fast: Cory Booker Teases The Idea Of White House Wedding To Rosario Dawson

Source: Roy Rochlin/Ethan Miller/Getty / Getty Cory Booker Talks Potential White House Wedding With Rosario Dawson People were a bit shocked when Rosario Dawson came forward to confirm her baeship with Presidential Candidate Cory Booker a few weeks ago. We’re not saying that they don’t love each other, we’re just saying that you can’t be the President of The United States AND be a bachelor. But anyway, Cory was recently rhapsodizing about Rosario to Ellen Degeneres and things escalated very, very quickly according to Buzzfeed : “She’s just an incredible human being,” Booker told Ellen DeGeneres of Dawson in an interview airing Wednesday. “She’s a deeply soulful person and has taught me a lot of lessons about love already and that sometimes you show the greatest strength when you make yourself vulnerable.” Oh, but it wasn’t over there. Ellen backed Booker into a corner about getting married at the White House if he were to become POTUS: “I mean, if you go in single and have a wedding in the White House — I mean, we would watch,” DeGeneres said. “That would be like our royal wedding — that’d be great.” “So you’re saying if Rosario and I get there, wait, don’t do the marriage before?” Booker jokingly asked. “Would you help preside over the wedding?” he asked DeGeneres. “Yes, I’d be a big part of that,” DeGeneres confirmed as they shook hands. Listen. A Black wedding at the White House? Whew, chile, the RATINGS.

Mutombo Finger: 12 Senate Republicans Join Democrats To Vote Down Trump’s Fake A$$ “Emergency”

Source: BRENDAN SMIALOWSKI / Getty Senate Republicans Vote Against Trump’s National Emergency Not in our House …or Senate. Today the Senate voted on Donald Trump’s declaration of a national emergency in order to secure funding for his stupid a$$ border wall. According to CNN , twelve Senate Republicans including water-sippin’ Marco Rubio and bootlickin’ Mitt Romney joined the Democrats to vote against the mad President 59-41. Unfortunately, Trump has specific veto power and had already announced that he will use it once the Senate shuts him down. “I'll probably have to veto,” Pres. Trump said earlier Thursday in anticipation of the vote, predicting that his veto would not be overturned. https://t.co/1iWLUbAWUz pic.twitter.com/PNoQdLv92R — ABC News (@ABC) March 14, 2019 Lawmakers would need even more votes to override Trump’s veto and it doesn’t look like they will get that magic number. That said, Trump is more on an island than he’s ever been at any point during his Presidency, he does not have the will of the people or the government. “Declaring a national emergency to access different funds sets a dangerous new precedent,” GOP Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio warned in remarks on the Senate floor ahead of the vote. “It opens the door for future presidents to implement just about any policy they want.” Sounds like exactly the type of government that Trump wants. Thanks, 53% of white women. Great job.

The Compassionate Carters: Beyoncé And Jay-Z To Be Honored As LGBTQ Allies With GLAAD Vanguard Award

Source: Kevin Mazur / Getty GLAAD To Honor Jay-Z And Beyoncé At Media Awards Beyoncé and Jay-Z are set to receive the Vanguard Award at the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards for being allies to the LGBTQ community . According to a statement via the organization, GLAAD’s Vanguard Award is presented to people who “have made a significant difference promoting acceptance of LGBTQ people.” It went on to say, “Beyoncé and Jay Z are longtime allies and supporters of the LGBTQ community who use their global platforms to share messages that inspire and change the world for the better.” GLAAD noted the work that both Jay-Z and Beyoncé have done throughout their careers on behalf of the LGBTQ community. They include instances like Beyoncé notably speaking out against North Carolina’s anti-LGBTQ “Bathroom Bill” in 2016, also posting a message in support of LGBTQ students after Trump withdrew Obama-era protections for transgender students the following year. Bey has also prominently included LGBTQ people in several of her music videos, along with showcasing transgender actress Laverne Cox in promos for her Ivy Park clothing line. As for her husband Jay-Z, the GLAAD Vanguard Award comes only one year after the rapper received the Special Recognition Award  for his song, “Smile,” in which his mother came out as a lesbian. Like Beyoncé, Hov has also made a point of prominently featuring LGBTQ people in his work, also supporting the passage of marriage equality. “Beyoncé and Jay Z are global icons and passionate defenders of human rights and acceptance for all people,” said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “When Beyoncé and Jay Z speak, the world becomes inspired and when it comes to LGBTQ people, their voices of acceptance have been heard loud and clear.” Previous winners of the GLAAD Vanguard Award include Jennifer Lopez, Janet Jackson, Demi Lovato, Whoopi Goldberg, and Britney Spears. The 2019 GLAAD Media Awards will be held in Los Angeles on March 28th.
