Terrence Malick’s epic war-film daydream The Thin Red Line (1998) is already out on DVD, but it is being reissued this week from The Criterion Collection, and when Criterion steps up to the line, you salute and say yes, sir. Malick’s film remains an underseen masterpiece, the ignored eccentric twin to Saving Private Ryan (the B.O. ratio in 1998 between them was six to one), and a confounding experience for mainstream audiences used to having their hands held.

I spent my morning watching my own kind of amazing race. It was a group of high school girls in what must have been gym class, wearing pretty seductive, low cut tank tops, in what would have been an amazing video, but would have been illegal for me to do, and I figured why ruin a good thing and get arrested to share with you idiots, when I can just sit there and enjoy it, since when you don’t have a camera, no one suspects you of being a fucking pervert…. That said, someone sent in this preview video for the Amazing Race and I pretty much laughed, so that makes it good enough to start the day here.
