Just hours after Gary Coleman passed away , his wife of almost three years, Shannon Price, acknowledged her late husband’s fan support in a moving statement. In a press conference, Shannon’s brother, Shawn Price, read a note on her behalf: “We are very grateful for all the wonderful support everyone has been extending to Gary’s family,” the statement began. “Thousands of emails have poured in to the hospital. This has been so comforting to the family to know how beloved he still is.” Here’s a nice photo of Gary and Shannon … Shannon Price wed Gary Coleman in 2007 . On Wednesday, Coleman, who was born with a congenital kidney disease that caused him to only grow to only 4-foot-8, suffered a brain hemorrhage after he hurt his head following a fall in the Utah home he shared with Shannon. He slipped into a coma Thursday, and passed away at approximately 12:05 p.m. in Provo, Utah, surrounded by his wife and other family members. The Diff’rent Strokes actor, who battled health and personal problems throughout life, was 42. Jessica Simpson Likens Self to a Missionary

The Price of Beauty was more than a reality show to Jessica Simpson. It was a calling. “I’m not saying I’m changing the world,” a teary-eyed Simpson said, accepting an award at the Gracies (which honor women in radio and TV) in Beverly Hills. “But… to be able to sit down with my Dad and [create] The Price of Beauty , it’s similar to missionary work. It was what I was called to do and called to be.” Yes. Her calling was to create a VH1 show in which she, Ken Paves and CaCee Cobb traveled the world to explore definitions of beauty in various cultures. The Price of Beauty in Jess’ case is thousands of dollars a day . On the series, the always-astute one visited a “fattening hut” in Uganda, munched on some fried cockroaches in Thailand, and walked a couture runway in Paris, etc. Despite lackluster ratings and bad reviews , “it’s changing my life … women are strong and there is always a life to change, and you are powerful enough to do it!” The Gracies honored Jessica Simpson for strength and entrepreneurial endeavors in the face of adversity and public scrutiny. Seriously. She got a real award for this. Earlier in her speech, Simpson quipped, “I’m not used to people talking so nice about me,” and explained that she felt “called to the ministry” at church camp at 13. This is pretty much the exact same thing.

The City Recap: The Elle Reality Show

We realize that as a show about women in fashion, MTV’s The City is bound to cross-promote certain magazines, designers and brands … but this is getting a little ridic. It’s basically the Elle reality show at this point … this week’s title even had Elle in it. Bad as it is for Elle that Olivia Palermo works there, the PR volume makes up for it. Fortunately, MTV was a non-discriminatory cross-promoting media whore of a network last night, as The N.Y. Post ‘s Page Six and Glamour got some love, too. But why? Here’s THG’s plus-minus recap of last night’s The City , “The Belle of Elle” … THE FACE OF ELLE : Only not really … or at all . Joe stops by to ask Olivia if she wants to go to a party for Gossip Girl – more shills! – stylist Eric Daman. Plus 2 , because we love us some GG and its trendy fashions. Kelly informs Whitney Port that Glamour – cha-ching! – wants to do a full page on her line. Whitney wants to bring Roxy. Kelly advises no. Whit does anyway. Wash . For a society girl, Olivia likes the attention she gets at the party way too much. Aren’t they supposed to not be impressed by anything, Blair Waldorf style? Minus 17 . Roxy’s LOL skirt look – “ballerina gone punk rock gone a little hooker, but in a good way” – is predictably not embraced by Glamour fashion director Sasha. Plus 10 . Kelly to Roxy Olin : “This business is made up of freaks and followers. I’m totally a freak. So you want to be a freak? That’s great but you pay the price.” Plus 14 . ROXY AND A HARD PLACE: Whitney is often caught in the middle. Olivia, regarding Seth talking to Blake Lively and Leighton Meester: “I can talk to a park bench.” LOL. What does that even mean? That Blake is a park bench? Minus 25 . Joe says that an Elle item made it in Page Six. Olivia perks up, only to learn that the so-called “Belle of Elle” is new fashion director Alexis Bryan Morgan. Served! Plus 17 ! Erin gives Olivia a look, delighted by Olivia’s reaction as she learns it’s not her in the press. Wash , because that was sort of cold, but we kinda don’t blame her … at all. At a Bergdorf Goodman party, Whit is, like, so nervous, but meets with an exec at the women’s division and makes a pitch for her fall like like a seasoned vet. Plus 11 . Through it all, Roxy was left in the cold, and more or less useless, with no discernible purpose on the show. But at least she’s true to herself … or something. Minus 2 . TOTAL: +10. SEASON: -73 .

Man Acquitted In Dolla’s Shooting Death

Lawyer for Aubrey Louis Berry argued that his client shot the Atlanta rapper in self-defense. By Josh Wigler Dolla Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images A Los Angeles jury has acquitted Aubrey Louis Berry of killing up-and-coming Atlanta rapper Dolla during a shooting last year at a crowded L.A. mall, The Associated Press reports. Deputy District Attorney and prosecutor Bobby Grace’s contention that Berry killed Dolla (real name: Roderick Anthony Burton II) as an act of vengeance was rejected by jurors. Upon the reading of the verdict, Berry hugged his attorney while Burton’s mother, Dayne Robinson, reportedly sobbed: “Oh, please, somebody help me.” The 21-year-old Dolla was shot and killed last May at the Beverly Center mall in Los Angeles during an assault in broad daylight. Berry was subsequently arrested in connection with the shooting and has remained in prison since. Berry’s attorney, Howard K. Price, made the argument that the shooting was committed in self-defense , a claim disputed by Dolla’s family. “There are three victims in this case, none of which is Aubrey Berry,” the Burton family’s spokesperson Dennis Byron said in a statement on May 22, 2009. “His claim of self-defense is very colorful, but the fact is that he traveled from Atlanta with a loaded firearm for which he didn’t possess a carry permit for in the state of California and then he assassinates Mr. Burton and attempts to shoot his cousin Will and his friend DJ Shabazz.” Price argued that Berry felt threatened by Dolla over a previous incident at an Atlanta nightclub. “If somebody has a reasonable perception that he is in danger of bodily injury or death, he has a right to defend himself,” Price told MTV News last year. “He felt his life was in danger because of the previous altercation and what this guy [Burton] is reputed to be, which is [a member of] the Crips [street gang].”
