Hashim Thaci, Kosovo’s newly re-elected prime minister, is coming under fresh scrutiny over his guerrilla past as European foreign ministers examine allegations about organ trafficking in the 1998-99 war. Dick Marty, a Council of Europe rapporteur, presented a report on Thursday to members of the 47-country organisation that alleges that Mr Thaci, a leader in the Kosovo Liberation Army against Serbia, also formed a powerful “mafia” network among former guerrilla fighters for narcotics and organ trafficking. The council, which promotes human rights, democracy and the rule of law around the continent published the report on its website and tabled it for discussion next month. The founder of WikiLeaks has been crowned the readers' choice for TIME's Person of the Year 2010. Assange won the most votes in this year's poll, racking up an impressive 382,020 votes out of a total of 1,249,425, resulting in a clear majority as the runner-up, Recep Tayyip Ergodan the Prime Minister of Turkey received 148,383 less votes.But Assange wasn't the winner in all aspects – Lady Gaga trounced him on Facebook, receiving 65,417 “likes” on Facebook to Assange's 45,643. The man behind WikiLeaks has won the most votes in this year's Person of the Year poll. Readers voted a total of 1,249,425 times, and the favorite was clear. The monumental event, expected to be watched by billions of people worldwide, will take place on April 29 at Westminster Abbey. The date and location for a royal wedding are set. Now, Kate and William just need to plan the dress , caterer, flowers, music, guest list… [Photo: Pacific Coast News] This is the same venue that featured the 1947 wedding of then-Princess Elizabeth, William’s grandmother the Queen. Prime Minister David Cameron announced this date will be a public holiday across Great Britain, while palace officials say the Royal Famil will pay for the church service, the music and parties. The millions of dollars spent on security? That will be footed by the British taxpayers. Can you imagine the ruckus that would break out if anything like that was attempted in America? Yikes.

LISBON (AFP) – The Portuguese hosts of Friday's NATO summit hoped to use the event to promote clean-energy and electric cars, but all eyes were on US President Barack Obama's diesel-guzzling “Beast” instead. As is usual when he travels, Obama's eight-tonne armoured behemoth of a limousine was flown out to Lisbon before the US leader's arrival, and it ferried him from the airport tarmac to his first meetings of the weekend. Doubtless he didn't intend the Beast's roar to drown out his hosts' green message, but a US presidential motorcade and its attendant escort of Secret Service SUVs do attract attention, even at the most elite gatherings. Earlier, Prime Minister Jose Socrates and his fellow Portuguese, the president of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso, had arrived at the summit in quiet, zero-emission electric cars. “I'd like to underline the priority both our countries assign to renewable energy and electric vehicles,” Socrates said, after meeting Obama, amid amused sniping from the Portuguese press at the mixed messages.
