Jimmy Fallon Bids Farewell To ‘Lost,’ ’24,’ ‘Law & Order’ At Emmys

Host channels Elton John, Boyz II Men and Green Day for musical montage. But at this year’s Emmy Awards, the night’s MC, Jimmy Fallon, decided to have a little fun with the yearly tradition by saying farewell to several of the beloved television shows that went off the air this past year. Dressed as Elton John, Fallon sat down at a pink grand piano and sang his own version of “Candle in the Wind” in honor of the now-defunct “24.” During the song, he changed the lyrics to: “Goodbye ’24’/ Though I never watched you on TV/ I missed one episode/ Had to buy the DVDs/ [Jack Bauer] never going to the men’s room, how did he hold it in?/ I would like to thank you for the torturing/ And the first black president.” Transitioning into a member of Boyz II Men, Fallon said goodbye to onetime television mainstay “Law & Order” with his take on “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday.” “How do I say goodbye, ‘Law & Order’?/ The good crimes, that changing cast/ I thought we’d get to season 21, but now that sound has gone away/ But at least there’s still that one with Mariska Hargitay,” he crooned to the laughing crowd. Fallon then became Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and, strumming his guitar, changed up the band’s hit “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” as a ballad to fan favorite “Lost.” “The island it was mythical, but in the end they died/ I didn’t understand it, but I tried,” he concluded the song. Betty White, Neil Patrick Harris Score Emmys

The stars snag Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday. By Mawuse Ziegbe Betty White Photo: Getty Images Betty White, 88, who went from ’80s “Golden Girl” to viral It girl, snagged a Creative Arts Emmy on Saturday for her guest-starring role on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.” After a hilarious Super Bowl commercial sparked a Facebook campaign aimed at landing White an “SNL” hosting gig, the comedy legend helmed the Mother’s Day tribute episode in May. The appearance boosted the sketch-comedy show’s ratings, drawing in the biggest viewership in 18 months. White wasn’t the only star lauded for superior host skills. Neil Patrick Harris took home an Emmy for his role as MC of the 63rd Annual Tony Awards, which nabbed hardware for Outstanding Special Class Program. The “How I Met Your Mother” star was a multiple award-winner Saturday night and also scored a win for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his turn as jerky Bryan Ryan on Fox’s “Glee.” Other winners at Saturday’s ceremony include the HBO wartime miniseries “The Pacific” with seven trophies. Newbie ABC comedy hit “Modern Family” and “SNL” both took home three awards. Animated FOX stalwart “The Simpsons” nailed two awards, including an Outstanding Voice Over Performance win for Anne Hathaway’s guest role as Princess Penelope. Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” landed a win for Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special for its comedic repackaging of the news. The television community still awaits the Primetime Emmy Awards which will air live on NBC August 29. Hit shows like “Glee,” “American Idol,” “30 Rock” and “Mad Men” are up for awards. Emmy Nominations: Glee Topples 30 Rock, Conan O’Brien and Friday Night Lights Shock

Just moments ago, Sofia Vergara and Joel McHale mounted the stage of the Television Academy in Los Angeles to announce the 62nd Primetime Emmy nominations. It was an exciting morning for Vergara — who shrieked every time Modern Family (and she) garnered a nod — and not so much for McHale — who tried to hide his disappointment every time Community (and he) were ignored in a category (“It’s OK, I just phoned it in this year,” he joked). And there was an audible cheer when the selections for this year’s Variety Show category were announced. Click through to see if Jay Leno and Conan O’B rien will duke it out for the Tonight Show crown again in August — and to acquaint yourself with the nominees for the 2010 Emmy Awards.
