Amanda Knox’s side of the story is … a long story. ABC’s Diane Sawyer is the first to get it since she was cleared of murdering roommate Meredith Kercher several years after being found guilty. Amanda Knox Interview With Diane Sawyer Released on an appeal and having completed her memoir Waiting to be Heard , Knox is now awaiting a re-trial in the case that has defined her life. Amanda Knox sat down with Sawyer for the special A Murder. A Mystery. Amanda Knox Speaks , and also spoke with GMA on the same network. Here are some of her most notable comments: On casual sex: “It was an adventure of self-hood … I thought that’s what all self-confident free-spirited women did, and at that point, I still felt like a clueless girl.” On her alibi, and boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito : “We had dinner. We watched a movie. We smoked. We had sex. We were together. I smoked a joint with him.” “What that did to my memories was it made them less concrete, but it didn’t black them out and it didn’t change them. We stayed in the whole night.” “He was faced with the prospect of not having a sentence if he just blamed me and he didn’t because he couldn’t live with a decision like that.” “I had known him for seven days.” Amanda Knox on Good Morning America On her non-confession: “I didn’t confess. I was interrogated. They acted like my answers were wrong. They told me I was wrong, that I didn’t remember correctly.” “And if I didn’t, I would never see my family.” “I wasn’t providing a lot of the detail. They were asking me if I had heard Meredith scream, and when I said I didn’t remember, they said, ‘How could you not remember that she screamed?’” “And I said, ‘Okay, I guess I remember that she screamed.’ It was all like that.” On how she did not clean her DNA out of Kercher’s room: ”That’s impossible. It’s impossible to see DNA, much less identify whose DNA it is.” On how the prison lied to her about a serious medical condition: “The doctor told me that I had tested positive for HIV. I was stunned.” “I went back to my room with one of the prison officials telling me, ‘Well, you should’ve thought about it before you had sex with all those people.’” On friends and family sticking by her: “I felt incredibly guilty for what they were having to sacrifice for me, and there was a certain point in my thinking in prison that if it didn’t work out and I never was free again, I was trying to figure out how I could ask them to move on with their life without me because I was tired of them having to sacrifice everything for me.” “I have to be ready to fight and defend myself.”

What part of the game is that?! Correction Officers On Trial For Not Intervening In Suicide Attempt Via CBC The jury at the coroner’s inquest into the death of troubled teen Ashley Smith watched disturbing video Monday of her final moments in a cell at a southern Ontario correctional facility. The video shows guards watching as the 19-year-old choked to death with a piece of cloth tied around her neck as she lay face down in her cell at the Grand Valley Institute for Women in Kitchener in October 2007. At the time the video begins, recorded at 6:45 a.m., guards had been debating for about 10 minutes what to do about Smith, who had tied a ligature around her neck — something she’d done several times before. The guards had been told she was seeking attention, and not to intervene unless she stopped breathing. But on this occasion, Smith was wedged between the bed and the wall on the floor of her cell, face down, gasping for breath but not speaking. Another 10 minutes pass before the guards enter her cell and cut the cloth from around her neck, after which they leave the cell and continue to watch outside the door. Yeah, they were “only doing their jobs”, but damn it’s cold-blooded to sit there and watch someone die! Smith doesn’t move, and after a few more minutes the guards enter the cell and try to rouse her by slapping her on the back, without any response. The guards begin to perform CPR, though one of them is heard swearing that she hasn’t had any CPR training in 11 years. A nurse arrives and an ambulance is called as the guards continue to perform CPR, until the emergency workers arrive at 7:10 and take over. They work on Smith for another 30 minutes, then transfer her to a gurney, all the while continuing chest compressions. Smith is wheeled out of the prison to the hospital. The prison guard who recorded the video, Valentino Burnett, testified on Monday and came under fire for following orders not to intervene when Smith was choking. Burnett acknowledged under questioning that “in a perfect world” he would have entered the cell to save Smith. Burnett and three other prison employees were charged for their role in Smith’s death, but the charges were dropped. Says the guards lawyer: “They were following what they were told was in the best interests of Miss Smith and they were trying to help her as much as possible to prevent the tragedy, but unfortunately, they weren’t allowed to prevent that tragedy as they saw fit.” The Smith’s lawyer ain’t goin’ for it: “(Ashley) was left to die by the correctional system, by our utter failures to meet the needs of the mentally ill.” What would you have done in the guards situation? Follow orders, or save a young girl’s life? Image via YouTube

Man Gets Stuck In The Wall While Trying To Break Out Of Prison A Brazil prisoner is being treated for injuries after he unsuccessfully tried to break out of the facility and got stuck in the wall. via Yahoo News Maybe for the imprisoned, any plan to break from jail sounds like a good one. But for this oversized inmate, what could have been a great escape turned into a big disaster. The Brazilian prisoner was trying to squeeze out of a hole in the wall smashed open with a shower pipe by fellow escapees. The tattooed and bald convict tried to wriggle through after a smaller man, but he got stuck midway, half his body touching freedom, and his legs and middle stuck back in the prison. While prisoners on the inside tried unsuccessfully to push him through, Rafael Valadão’s yells of pain alerted the authorities to the plan. The prisoner who made it out managed to climb over a 15-foot wall and has not been found. Valadão is being treated for a possible fractured rib. LMAO. Photo Credit: Journal Populacional
