Lil Kim Says She Once Recorded With Nicki Minaj

‘I saw her coming in the game, like, ‘All you chicks that been in the game for 10 years, move over,’ ‘ Kim tells Hot 97. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Kim Photo: Donna Ward/Getty Images To hear Lil Kim tell it, she and Nicki Minaj were set to be teammates instead of rivals. The Brooklyn rapper appeared on New York hip-hop station Hot 97 on Friday (December 17) and told host Angie Martinez that she was affiliated with Cash Money at one point and recorded with Nicki. “A lot of people might not know this, but me and [Cash Money co-CEO] Slim were very good friends,” Kim explained. “Very good friends for four or five years. My thing is this: I haven’t been doing music like that for a second and I looked at her buzz as a way in for me. I’m like, ‘OK, this is a good thing. This a way for me to kind of come back in.’ ” After they recorded, however, Kim said the feedback to her verses was better than her younger peer’s. Then, she said, the subliminal shots toward her from Nicki Minaj began. Kim, though, said she never had any reason to dislike the upstart. “I saw her coming up,” she said. “I saw her coming in the game, like, ‘All you chicks that been in the game for 10 years, move over. Y’all need to sit down.’ And this and that. I thought that was disrespectful.” Kim downplayed their current frosty relationship, saying the Queens femcee was obviously influenced by the Queen Bee. “I’m not looking for beef,” she said. “I’m not looking for someone to start a war with. That’s not me. That’s not what I do.” What do you think about Kim’s thoughts on Nicki? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos ‘Nicki Minaj: My Time Now’ Related Artists Nicki Minaj

Lil Wayne Producer Bangladesh Explains How ‘6’7" ‘ Came To Be

‘It’s unfortunate that political things happen and it messes up the music of creative people,’ beatmaker says of his financial issues with Cash Money. By Jayson Rodriguez Bangladesh Photo: Vallery Jean/ FilmMagic Huh? That was the collective response when it was discovered that Lil Wayne’s new track “6’7″ ” was produced by Bangladesh, the musical maestro behind Weezy’s “A Milli.” Ever since “A Milli” became a phenomenon, Bangladesh expressed frustration with Cash Money’s financial operations and the two hadn’t worked together. But after the producer crafted the track that would eventually become “6’7″,” things began shifting in place for a reunion. According to Bangladesh, Gee Roberson (an executive at Atlantic Records), requested music for T.I.’s album . “I already know how T.I. is and how he is and how he thinks,” Bangladesh told MTV News, explaining that the two parties, while friendly, haven’t been able to connect musically in the past. “I had given up on sending him music. You know, sometimes everything ain’t for people. And even though it might be great, it might not be their direction.” Turns out, it wasn’t — but Roberson had a suggestion. ” ‘Wayne will kiss this, man,’ ” Bangladesh recalls the executive, who also co-manages Drake, saying. ” ‘This is Wayne.’ He was right He was absolutely right.” That conversation was the starting point between the producer and Wayne reuniting. “It was the first step to resolving the relationship among each other,” he said. “Not the business side of it. Like, everything that happened and everything I said [before] was true. But to move on, you have to see progression. So I had to learn that there was things that had changed over in the camp and the business department. Once I was confirmed that from reliable sources, I could move on. And it really has never been a Wayne issue. I f—ed with him. It’s just, it’s unfortunate that political things happen and it messes up the music of creative people where we can’t feed the consumer what they really want to hear.” What do you think of Wayne’s new single? Tricky Stewart Defends New Michael Jackson Tune, ‘Keep Your Head’

‘This was a record that [MJ] wrote and that he produced. And I just got in there,’ the producer maintains. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by James Lacsina Tricky Stewart Photo: MTV News While detractors of Michael Jackson’s Michael album cry foul over the unfinished material that makes up the bulk of the posthumous project, producer Christopher “Tricky” Stewart is insisting that his contribution to the release was material MJ put together — and finished — himself. In the case of “Keep Your Head Up,” one of the album’s biggest standouts, Stewart told MTV News that the track was not a remake of any kind. Rather, he just added minor additional production flourishes to the number. “The main thing I wanted to do was make sure that Michael would like it,” said Stewart, who has worked with Beyonc

Lil Wayne’s ‘6’7" ‘ Originally For T.I., Bangladesh Says

Producer says he sent beat to Tip’s camp first but was eventually convinced to hand over the track for Weezy. By Mawuse Ziegbe T.I. Photo: Jamie McCarthy/ Getty Images From chart-topping records to serving time behind bars, Lil Wayne and T.I. have a lot in common. In fact, they were both set to lavish lyrics on what eventually became Weezy’s latest joint, “6’7″.” Producer Bangladesh, who supplied the rumbling, insistent beat for Weezy’s beastly 2008 banger “A Milli,” recently revealed that Wayne’s lead lyrical K.O. from Tha Carter IV was originally sent to Tip’s camp. “Due to the situation and the circumstances of the Cash Money situation, I really wasn’t thinking about Wayne at that moment when I made it,” he told BET.com about sidestepping Weezy’s label due to static that cropped up when Bangladesh claimed Cash Money owed him some, well, cash money . “I just knew that the beat was a big track and I couldn’t at the time think of nobody that could swag this out like that or was worthy enough of this beat really. “I was actually sending the beat to Gee [Roberson, Atlantic Records executive] for T.I.,” he added. “I mean, not that I think T.I. would sound good on the beat, they were just looking for a single and somebody said, ‘Man, send that to Gee; T.I. need something.’ ” Even though the producer sent over the track, he knew that Tip wasn’t likely to latch on to the record. Instead, Roberson, who co-manages Weezy, insisted the beat was Carter IV material. “I already dealt with T.I., I know how T.I. is. I knew he wouldn’t really be rocking this beat right there, so I sent it anyway,” he added. “And Gee just hit back talking about Wayne: ‘Man, Wayne’ll kill this, Wayne’ll kill this,’ so I had to really see if I wanted to do it or not, but they’ve been communicating, they’ve been reaching out.” Bangladesh told MTV News on Wednesday that when the beat finally reached Wayne, he attacked it with the same fervor he did the steely Carter III smash, but this time he focused that raw, freewheeling energy to turn out more slickly delivered bars. “The overall wittiness is everything I was saying about ‘A Milli’ when it came to be,” the producer explained. “He freestyled ‘A Milli,’ and before it was big and before we knew what it was gonna do, we all had our opinions of it. A lot of people loved it, but me being the creator of the art, I didn’t see the vision that he had. I think he attacked it as a mixtape. And that was the genius of what he did and it became the biggest thing. The way he approached this one, was everything that I wanted him to do on ‘A Milli.’ I think he’s really focusing on every, every line. It’s like he’s writing. It’s different. It’s a whole ‘nother level of cleverness to it.” Was Wayne the better choice for Bangladesh’s “6’7″ ” beat? Tell us why in the comments! Related Artists T.I. Lil Wayne

Usher Most Admires Justin Bieber’s ‘Excitement And Innocence’

Bieber’s mentor tells MTV News the teen sensation has ‘so much more in store for the future.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Tim Kash Usher and Justin Bieber at the 2010 AMAs Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images With so much accomplished in 2010, Justin Bieber has certainly set the bar high for 2011. But the teen singer is already gearing up for next year. Bieber will not only release his much-anticipated 3-D flick, “Never Say Never” , but he has also teased that he’d like to release an album of all-new material sometime later next year. His mentor, Usher , thinks that at this point, the sky’s the limit. “As far as music and entertainment, that’s the beginning,” Usher told MTV News at Sunday’s AMAs, where Bieber performed and took home four awards . “There’s so much more in store for the future, or at least there’s a ton of things we can do and will, and with the support of his fans who will continue to just grow and grow and grow.” At 16, Bieber has accomplished what few manage with many more years in the music business, but Usher said he wants to ensure that Bieber doesn’t stop enjoying it all as his popularity continues to grow and his schedule gets busier. Asked what he admires most about Justin, Usher said, “His excitement and innocence in it. And I don’t mean that in a light way because I think that he’s absolutely enjoying every moment of it, as any young man his age would, but in a different way because [of] the hard work that has gone in and led to the dream that has become a reality. And every time you have an opportunity do something incredible, I tell him to do his best and be conscious that what you’re doing today should last forever and eternity.” What did you think of Justin’s AMA performance on Sunday? Michael Bay Isn’t Made Entirely of Money

“Why did I cut the stunt, because the building wanted a $40,000 location fee. I told my producer we are not paying that – Why? Because I like to stay on budget, and I also don’t like to get ripped off. So there’s the truth. And yes, we are still under budget today.” Moral of the story: The surest ways to elicit a reaction from Michael Bay are to accuse him of having blown his Transformers 3 budget or compare him to Hitler . Dr. Dre’s ‘Turn Me On’ Leaks To The Web

Pulsating track is the second Dre leak this summer and could be featured on Detox. By Jayson Rodriguez Dr. Dre Photo: Denise Truscello/WireImage Yet another unfinished track from Dr. Dre has hit the Web. This time, it’s the pulsating “Turn Me On,” a possible number for the producer’s long-delayed Detox album. “Seven stars must be my aura/ I mastered levitation, I stay up in the clouds,” Dre raps on the track, which clocks in at barely two minutes. “Penthouse, hovering a hundred floors up/ I’m on some tantric yoga/ The ladies love the way I shine, I’m like Merlin when I’m erotic/ I make ya squirm no hands on ya body.” “Turn Me On” follows the West Coast producer’s Jay-Z collaboration, “Under Pressure,” which leaked online to mixed reactions earlier this summer. In June, just weeks after the Jay-Z single leaked, Dre spoke about the track on the red carpet of the ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Music Awards. The doctor, who has a reputation for being a perfectionist, wasn’t satisfied by any means. “The vocals are real rough, it’s not blended right … a hook is not even on the song,” he said, explaining that didn’t get a chance to finish the number before listeners got a sample. The song still needed a chorus and had to be mixed and mastered properly, he said. “It’s not done. The music isn’t done.” In the current issue of Vibe magazine, Dre opened up for the first time about Detox ‘s delays. He said the work time on the project hasn’t varied from his past efforts. It was his work signing and producing new talent, like 50 Cent, that has set his own project back. “Absolutely not,” Dre told the magazine when asked if he expected the album to take so long. “I thought it would take, at worst case, a couple of years. For example, actual work time on The Chronic was nine months, and actual work time on my last album, 2001, was about 10 months. The actual work time on this album is about half of that, where I’m seriously focusing on it. There is always something coming up.” What do you think about Dr. Dre’s “Turn Me On”?
