Pusha T Has Become ‘A Student’ Of The-Dream

‘I’ve learned so much about song structure from Dream,’ G.O.O.D. Music MC tells MTV News from his studio. By Nadeska Alexis, with reporting by Rahman Dukes The-Dream and Pusha T Photo: MTV News Pusha T is laser-focused on his debut album at the moment, trying to craft a cohesive musical project. But if you thought the G.O.O.D. Music signee would hole up in the studio with his boss, Kanye West, think again. Over the weekend, MTV News caught up with Pusha in Atlanta, where he was in the studio working closely with The-Dream. The two first linked up when producer RicoBeats sent one of Push’s tracks to Dream for a feature and eventually collaborated on a few more things. In addition to lending his vocals to the album, The-Dream has been guiding Pusha through the recording process, helping him take his work to a new level. “It really started with this beat [from] Rico. We were like, ‘Yo, Dream would just sound amazing on the record, period.’ So we sent it out and it came back so quick. Dream was like, ‘Man this is one of the ones,’ ” Pusha recalled. “Personally, I never thought the record was going to come back that quickly. I was in New Orleans somewhere and Rico was like, ‘Aye! Dream did it — he on the phone!” I thought, “OK, wait a minute this might really be something.” Pusha wouldn’t reveal exactly how many tracks the two had banked together, but he explained why the R&B singer/producer is the perfect fit for this album. “Musicality, to me in general, is missing, but [Dream] is a musician, he’s a fundamentalist. I’ve really taken on the student role,” Pusha continued. “I feel like I’m in with the best of the best. You’ve got Dream on one end, you’ve got Kanye on another end, and you can learn so much. I really look at myself as just a rapper’s rapper, but I’ve learned so much about song structure from Dream. ‘This is the most I’ve ever rewritten,” he added. “I wrote the ‘Automatic’ record, sent it to Dream, and he was like, ‘Aye, you rapping too damn much,’ and I’m like, ‘OK.’ How [would you not] listen to the writer of everything? How [would you not] listen to the producer of everything?” The-Dream was just as enthusiastic about working with Pusha on the album. “I always personally felt like he was one of the best at what he did, period,” Dream said. [There’s] lots of guys that are great from a rap standpoint, but in songs they’re not as great. Sometimes [you need to say], ‘Hey, move this part here and this is your hook,’ or ‘Let’s write about this, or let’s tap that emotion and let’s not rap past the emotion of where it is.’ ” For the producer, who has banked countless hits for stars like Rihanna and Beyonc

Miley Cyrus or Demi Lovato: The Next X Factor Judge?!?

With Britney Spears already on board , might Simon Cowell be giving up all notions of The X Factor as a singing competition? It’s hard not to think the producer is simply aiming to rake in the ratings, considering the latest name reportedly on the table to join season two as a judge: Miley Cyrus. Simply put, “there have been talks with Miley,” an X Factor insider tells Celebuzz, a rumor backed up by E! News. Both outlets also report that Fergie, Avril Lavigne and Demi Lovato are in the running to join Cowell, Spears and L.A. Reid on the panel. A decision will need to come within a month or so, in order for auditions to begin and The X Factor to premiere season two in September. What do you think of Miley Cyrus as a judge? Would she be a good choice? UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter now claims Lovato is the one to beat and is in “final negotiations” for the gig.

Topless Scene on Set of Spring Breakers of the Day

It’s not an Spring Break without titties….so I guess the geniuses behind the Spring Breakers….a movie that stars Vanessa “not so hot but willing to show her naked twat” Hudgens…..Selena “Sex Offender Who Looks 12″ Gomez and some other bitch no one has ever heard of but that who is milking this as hard as she can cuz this is her big break….They’ve had the paparazzi on set everyday to fuel the hype behind what I am sure is going to be a fucking shitty movie….and not just because Spring Break is a tacky Jersey Shore mess of disgusting….but because I can just tell…..but at least they are keeping it as authentic as possible by getting a couple dumb cunts to be their “topless” partiers…making these pics likely the best part of the movie….mainly cuz I like seeing local bitches get excited enough to do this cuz you know the producer met her in a bar a few nights earlier and she thinks this is her big break….amazing….but she’ll probably amount to nothing but an extra, with these morals and values, she’ll likely be pregnant in a few months anyway…..so take her 5 minutes of fame in…..it’s worth it cuz there are tits. Atlanta-based rap producer Shawty Redd has been found not guilty of a murder charge related to his 2010 New Year’s Day arrest. As we previously reported, Shawty Redd (born Demetrius Lee Stewart) was accused of shooting 35-year-old Damon A. Martin of Detroit during an argument at Stewart’s home in Hampton, located in Henry County. Henry County District Attorney Tommy Floyd told the AP that Redd was cleared of the murder charge Thursday after judge Wade Crumbley determined that the producer acted in self-defense. Redd has produced tracks for Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, Gucci Mane and others. His breakthrough came when he produced Snoop Dogg’s 2007 hit single “Sexual Seduction.” RELATED: UPDATE: Shawty Redd Bond Set At $200K UPDATE: Shawty Redd Makes First Court Appearance On Murder Charge Producer Shawty Redd Turns Himself In After Homicide On New Years Day

Simon Cowell: ‘X Factor’ Boot Camp Is ‘Uncomfortable’

‘You really do feel what it’s like to be a contestant on one of these shows,’ he tells MTV News. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Simon Cowell Photo: MTV News As if early episodes — and folks like Brian Bradley , 2Squar’d and that dude who ripped off Prince &#8212l; haven’t already proven the point, “X Factor” has been working overtime to prove that it’s nothing like “American Idol.” And if for some reason you’re still not seeing the differences, well, just wait until the “Factor” kicks off its Boot Camp on Wednesday night’s show. Because, as judge Simon Cowell told MTV News, unlike the high-gloss “Idol” Hollywood Week, Boot Camp will be, well, real. “I’ve seen them all and I’ve made a ton of them, [and] what I do know, because obviously I was there, [was] that I wanted to show the viewers what actually happened,” he said. “So the first cut you get is the producer’s cut, where everything’s fantastic and I’m hilarious, whatever, whatever. But that was not the week I saw. Just show the process — the good, the bad, the terrible. Let the audience make their own mind up. “I mean, it’s quite uncomfortable,” Cowell continued. “[And] I haven’t seen the finished cut yet, but it’s a lot, lot better, and you really do feel you know what it’s like now to be a contestant on one of these shows and what we felt; we were under pressure as well.” Highlighting that pressure is the added emphasis on choreography, which really comes to the forefront during Boot Camp — for better or worse. But, as Cowell said, viewers will get to see it all, because that’s what auditioning for a singing competition is really like. “It wasn’t a test. We didn’t judge them on it. We just said that if you wanted to be a star today, you’re going to have to be on a stage in front of lots of people, and sometimes you’re going to have to learn how to dance,” he said. “Certain people just flatly refused to do it, other people tried and failed miserably, and then other people we were kind of drawn to because we thought, ‘You should try it … we’re looking at you.’ ” Are you looking forward to Boot Camp on “X Factor”? Let us know in the comments!

American Idol Producer Responds to Adam Levine Diss, Gay Contestant Controversy

In newly-released excerpts from an Out Magazine interview, Adam Levine took American Idol to task this week, claiming the competition forces its gay contestants to hide their sexuality . Asked about that accusation, Idol / So You Think You Can Dance producer Nigel Lythoe essentially told Entertainment Weekly : HUH?!? Indirectly or intentionally, Adam Lambert and Adam Levine continue to cross paths. “To be frank, I didn’t understand why we’re talking about contestants being gay or not gay,” Lythoe said . “I don’t go into my dentist and say, “Are you gay?” I don’t say to contestants on So You Think You Can Dance , “Are you gay?” What does it got to do with me? What does it got to do with anybody? When does privacy stop in this country? “If somebody wants to say they’re gay, it’s up to them. You don’t expect us to turn around and say, “Are you gay?” Why would we do that? – “By the way, he’s a Catholic and he supports Obama and here’s his sexuality” – what does that have anything to do with singing talent? Maybe it does for Adam Levine, but not for me.” But what about Adam Lambert ? “He must have come out before being on Idol , he just didn’t talk about it on Idol ,” the producer said. “And why should he? Is every actor going on television going to say, “I’m only playing the part of a straight man, I’m really gay”? There’s no reason that I would see why anybody that goes on television should start coming out with who they are, what they are, what they’re sexuality is, who they’re going to vote for or what their religion is.”

Laidback Luke Plans For Big ‘Natural Disaster’

The ‘Turbulence’ producer lays out his strategy for his next single with Example, and another with Wynter Gordon. By Akshay Bhansali Laidback Luke Photo: Tomorrowland Festival Veteran Dutch producer Laidback Luke is known for leveling some of the most explosive live sets in the business, as was certainly the case last month, at the main stage of Boom, Belgium’s Tomorrowland Festival . Luke dropped his rendition of Kanye West’s, “All of the Lights,” “Timebomb” (with Jonathan Mendelson) and crowd favorite “Turbulence,” his hit single with Steve Aoki and Lil Jon . In the pantheon of Laidback Luke bangers, according to the producer himself, “Turbulence,” ranks among the greats. ” ‘Turbulence’ is one of the harder tracks I’ve made,” Luke told MTV News just before his set at Tomorrowland. “Steve is a big influence in that. When we made it, I could see him doing his stage dive and taking shirts off. And for me, when I play that track in my set, it’s definitely a peak. I’ll be jumping myself too, not taking shirts off or stage-diving, but Steve definitely adds up the energy for me.” With Tomorrowland now behind him, Luke has big plans for the rest of the year: He’s linked up with British singer Example for a whopping single called “Natural Disaster,” the instrumental mix of which is out already (and the version with Example’s vocals has leaked online too). Judging by the TL crowd’s response to the song as his set-opener, it certainly makes sense that Luke and Example are hoping to do more with it. ” ‘Natural Disaster’ is doing really well for me right now,” Luke said. “We are shooting a video soon, looking at treatments right now. We have a couple of young directors we are looking at, so it’s gonna be great.” And after the success of his remix of Wynter Gordon’s “Dirty Talk” last year, he may come to New York to shoot the video for another collaboration with her. “Wynter came through with a video concept for, ‘Speak Up,’ ” the producer explained. “She wanted to have, like, a block party, and we are gonna shoot it where she grew up in New York.” “All the focus is on, ‘Natural Disaster,’ for the moment,” Luke added, when pressed for details on the new single. “And then we’ll go full force on, ‘Speak Up.’ ” While, like most dance music artists in the summer, he’s busy touring the world in the world, but he did drop one sliver of a “maybe,” EDM fans will be excited to hear: He just might be working with Steve Aoki again. “DJs are working hard this summer!” Luke exclaimed. “We’ll see after the summer is done, [then] we’ll do more studio time.” Related Photos Tomorrowland Festival 2011 Related Artists Laidback Luke
