Google Book Search Sued by Photographers for $125M Settlement

A lwasuit was filed against Google Inc. by numerous photography associations over copyright infringement of books and magazines with a $125M settlement. The American Society of Media Photographers, the Graphic Artists Guild, the Picture Archive Council of America, the North American Nature Photography Association, and the Professional Photographers of America have all joined together to sue . The photography associations are claiming that Google scanned millions of books and magazines that include copyrighted images, then displaying those images without consent for easy search access at Google Books. “We are seeking justice and fair compensation for visual artists whose work appears in the twelve million books and other publications Google has illegally scanned to date. Yes, Adam Lambert Said He Disliked Susan Boyle’s Album

We love Adam Lambert and we admire the enthusiasm and loyalty of his fans. But we got into a bit of a stand-off with them last month when THG ran a story that said Lambert “ripped” Susan Boyle, referring to her her album as “terrible” and her rendition of “Wild Horses” as laughable. Supporters of this singer jumped down our throat for misquoting the superstar, claiming we were going after Google hits (via our harsh word choice) instead of the truth. This critique prompted us to pen an editorial in which we told Adam fans to ” chill out .” Since then, we’ve made up… right, Lambert lovers? But we still feel the need to defend our professional integrity and state: we did not misquote Adam. In a new interview with The Herald Sun , he was asked about his comment and said: “It came across a bit harsher than how it actually went down. But I’m not a fan of the record, it wasn’t a lie.” Let’s all move on now. Adam has. He talked about the perception of American Idol in the same interview: “[People think] you come off the show and all of a sudden you are put in this machine and puppeted into this product. That’s not my experience at all. “I’m a pretty outspoken, upfront, forward type of person, and I have opinions about what I want to be as an artist. I told them I want to be glam, be pop, be rock, I want to be everything, blend it all together and have a great time doing it. Be theatrical and be out there.” That’s certainly who Lambert is – and we adore him for remaining true to himself.

Kristen Cordle is stoked : The young executive assistant has abandoned the scary pirate captain of dying Yahoo to work for the CEO of red-hot Twitter Inc. She’s already dissing her lame old company, and the competition. Cordle made appropriately sentimental noises when she left her job working for potty-mouthed Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz , tweeting that co-founder “Jerry Yang just gave me a good-bye hug :: tear::,” and, under a picture of Bartz , ” I’ll miss these ladies…and many many more.” But once Cordle was a safe distance from her fire-breathing boss , the truth came out : Twitter is SO much cooler: That was after approximately one workday at Twitter. After one more, Cordle was ready to diss rival social network Facebook: Cordle, a San Francisco resident, hints that she took the Twitter job in part to avoid the lengthy commute to Yahoo’s HQ in Sunnyvale. But there’s no question the gig will help the former Logitech program manager further ascend the professional ladder she’s made her way up so quickly and adroitly thus far: Cordle will be assisting Twitter CEO Ev Williams , according to blogger and Silicon Valley startup advisor Louis Gray , and was press-savvy enough to send repeated shout-outs to longtime tech journalist Kara Swisher while re-tweeting the tech bloggers at Mashable, including Twitter chronicler Ben Parr. Maybe she’s an internet celebrity in the making. It’s not every company that gives executive assistants enough free time to become a fameball, but Twitter’s not your typical sort of place . And guess who was her date? None other than her Dancing With The Stars partner Tony Dolovani . What’s the deal with this? Are the DWTS contestants required to turn up everywhere with the professional dance partners?

Jacqueline Beems Arrested for Assault on Ric Flair

Throughout his professional wrestling career, Ric Flair had a saying: To be the man, you’ve got to beat the man. His wife of three months apparently took those words literally: Jacqueline Beems was arrested last night for allegedly assaulting the former WCW and WWE great. Several media outlets say the police were called to the couple’s Charlotte residence last night, just prior to midnight. The official police report states Fair suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. No weapons were used in the alleged attack and Beems was released from jail earlier this afternoon. The wrestler – who often refers to himself as a “limousine ridin’, jet flying, kiss stealin’, wheelin’ dealin’, son of a gun” – has been married four times.
