Are You Ready for Charlie Sheen’s Big Screen Return in Charlie Swan III?

Once upon a time, as The Playlist recalls , a bloviating crazy person named Charlie Sheen claimed he’d be starring in a sequel to Major League directed and written by Roman Coppola (for his first feature since his debut, 2001’s CQ ). Turns out Sheen spits half-truths: He won’t be returning to the cineplex in a baseball movie, but another project with Coppola called A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charlie Swan III . No official word yet on his casting, but you’ll see that Sheen deserves no other part but the unraveling title character.

Eminem, Royce Da 5’9" Success Inspires Slaughterhouse

‘To have him on our team is only gonna make us better,’ Crooked I says of Royce. By Rob Markman Slaughterhouse’s Royce Da 5’9,” Crooked I and Joe Budden Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — All for one and one for all. Last week, Royce Da 5’9″ hoisted his first gold plaque for his and Eminem ‘s Bad Meets Evil EP Hell: The Sequel, and his Slaughterhouse bandmates couldn’t be happier for the Detroit spitter. “It feels great to actually be accomplishing things,” Royce told MTV News backstage at Rock the Bells. “Five years ago, I was in jail, so this is phenomenal for me, and I feel like it’s starting the machine and it’s starting the Shady Records movement, because this is a good springboard to get the Slaughterhouse project off the ground, and we wanna make being lyrical cool again. We want the kids to look at lyricism and feel like that’s cool.” In January, it was announced that Eminem had signed the quartet — comprised of Royce, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I and Joe Budden — to his Shady Records label. While the foursome have been working on their Shady debut, Em and Royce revived their Bad Meets Evil group and dropped Hell: The Sequel in June. Now, three months later, the project has moved more than 500,000 copies, making it Royce’s first gold record. For the rest of Slaughterhouse, Nickel Nine’s success provides inspiration. “I was actually there when [Eminem’s manager] Paul [Rosenberg] came in with the plaque, and that’s an ill moment in history, because it’s more than full-circle in my eyes; it’s like full-circle and then some,” Crooked I said. “I proceeded to get drunk off a bottle of Mo

REVIEW: Slow, Ridiculous Apollo 18 is Found Footage Horror Done Wrong

When they work, found footage films are testaments to the power of a limited perspective. Features like The Blair Witch Project , REC and Cloverfield get juice out of the fact that we’re not able to see or know more than the characters on screen. They use a gloss of the intentionally clumsy — jittery camerawork, lower quality footage, mundane dialogue — to allow a story to invade from an unexpected angle. They require cleverness in concept and, more importantly, in construction, particularly when the found footage flick in question is of the horror genre, as so many of them are; there’s no easier way to lose your audience than to make them wonder why, when such frightening things are allegedly happening, your characters are still bothering to roll tape. On the plus side, they’re a way to hide your monster (or witch, or demon, or alien) from view for longer than is usually allowed a more standard film — and the monster we imagine is usually much scarier than the one we finally see on screen.

‘Apollo 18’: The Reviews Are In!

Critics say the ‘found-footage’ film requires a suspension of disbelief to truly work. By Terri Schwartz “Apollo 18” Photo: Dimension Films “Apollo 18” is not a documentary — NASA made a point of clearing that up — but that doesn’t mean that a certain suspension of disbelief won’t make the movie a terrifying experience. The flick is just the latest to cash in on the found-footage premise made popular in 1999’s “The Blair Witch Project,” but it is the first to bring that filmmaking style to outer space. Some critics thought the premise worked in its new location, while others felt the film lost its momentum in the second hour. The consensus for is that it either will work for you or it won’t; which way will you sway? Check out what the critics have to say and make your decision in theaters this weekend. The Premise “These days, none but the most naive, gullible and uninformed of moviegoers would ever fall for the d

Machine Gun Kelly Shoots His First Bad Boy Video

‘I never been on a real video set,’ MGK admits to MTV News. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Matt Elias Machine Gun Kelly on the set of the “Stereo” music video Photo: MTV News Bigger deals mean bigger budgets. While on the come-up, Cleveland, Ohio’s Machine Gun Kelly made the most of his independent music grind, but his new deal with Diddy ‘s Bad Boy Records has allowed the rapid-fire rapper to do things slightly bigger. “This is the first video we’re doing with Bad Boy/Interscope,” MGK told MTV News on Monday while on the set of the Colin Tilley-directed clip for his mixtape cut “Stereo.” “Man, our videos? C’mon man, they’re like all directed by us; like jokes, then we turn it and flip it and make it great,” he said of his past vids like “Cleveland” and “Salute.” For “Stereo,” Kells invaded Fred C. Nelles Youth Correctional Facility in Whittier, California. “We shut the whole thing down, moved all the prisoners in one room and they’re all jerking off together, it’s pretty crazy,” he joked. “It’s just a bunch of just badass girls, and we’re all just getting shipped to the correctional facility and we’re just having a bad time. It’s like the music comes on and it kinda cheers us up, kinda just excited and ready to do whatever.” In August, Diddy announced that he signed MGK on “RapFix Live,” and while Kelly doesn’t exactly fit the Bad Boy rapper mold set by the likes of the Notorious B.I.G. , Mase and the LOX , Combs insisted that he doesn’t want the youngster to change a thing. “He will not be changing for Bad Boy; he will not have a typical Bad Boy swag,” Diddy said. “He’s not going to be popping champagne or driving around in Bentleys. He’s gonna be him and true to himself. He has a lot of creative control in his project.” After breaking through with his 2010 mixtape Lace Up, MGK caught hip-hop’s attention. His popularity began to grow so much that the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers began to play his hometown ode “Cleveland” at home games during the 2010-2011 basketball season. On the upbeat “Stereo,” MGK raps metaphorically about his love affair with music and his stereo. For Kells, turning his underground fan-favorite into his first big visual means the world to him. “We’re just about being organic and keeping everything how it was before the deal, so we’re taking one of the older songs that the fans love,” he said. “I never been on a real video set. I’m so happy I’m from Cleveland, Ohio, dude. This whole experience is just crazy.” Related Artists Machine Gun Kelly

Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’: A VMA Cheat Sheet

Leading nominee got serious in the clip about staying true to yourself. By Gil Kaufman Katy Perry in her video for “Firework” Photo: EMI We all know that Katy Perry ‘s videos are a blast in a glass. But the most-nominated artist at the 2011 VMAs got serious for four minutes this year, and it helped cap a record-breaking run and made for one of the most visually arresting and inspirational clips of the year. Perry is rolling into Sunday’s show with nine nominations, including Video of the Year for “Firework,” which is also nominated in the new Best Video With a Message category. Flirt With The Ladies 0f ’11 With Our Interactive Time Machine The California Gurl knew she wanted to make a very special clip for her favorite track from the smash Teenage Dream album , so she hooked up with veteran video director Dave Meyers (Pink, Kelly Clarkson, T.I.) on the project. And luckily for her, they were totally on the same page. Meyers was looking to “play with [her] image a bit … sort of demystify the candy-colored pop icon that she’s become.” He said he had to switch gears a bit, though, when the more toned-down “Teenage Dream” video came out. But with a bit of tweaking, he dug deep into the very personal song’s message and came up with a new vision that Katy was totally onboard with. “We wanted to articulate the meaning of that song: what it means to be an underdog and have the courage, if you’re on the outskirts of society, to be your own person,” he said. Packing off to Budapest, Meyers stationed Perry on the top of a building downtown and cast unknown, real teens in the clip — which has been viewed more than 226 million times on YouTube — to tell a variety of stories, from a boy in a physically abusive home to a girl who feels like a stranger in her own skin, a same-sex couple sharing a kiss and a teen suffering from cancer. All the while, Perry urges them to see the beauty inside, as her love, literally, explodes from her chest in a hail of sparks. In the days leading up to the “Firework” premiere, Perry dedicated the video to the “It Gets Better” campaign, and she was thrilled that in the weeks following its release, the clip took on a life of its own, as a beacon of hope for everyone who’s battled bullies or struggled to find themselves. “I think that’s why I wrote it, is because I really believe in people and I believe that people have a spark to be a firework,” she told MTV News. “It’s just up to them, and a lot of times it’s only us that’s standing in the way of reaching our goals, fulfilling our destinies, being the best version of who we possibly can be, so that’s why I wrote it.” With fireworks bursting from her chest, Katy’s call to power inspires the teens to burst with their own multicolored explosions of self-confidence and empowerment, providing a stunning, candy-colored finale in which more than 250 kids light up the sky thanks to their liberation from bad feelings. The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday from Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. What The Hell??? Marcy Housing Worker Uses Pitchfork To Kill 3 Ft. Long Giant Rat Running Around The Projects !!!

What is really good with Jay-Z’s old hood? In the works of Amy Winehouse — what kind of f**kery is this??? Giant rats — bigger than cats — are terrorizing the residents of the Marcy projects where Jay-Z grew up. A housing worker recently used a PITCHFORK to kill one. You’ve got to read the details: A photo making the rounds shows Housing Authority worker Jose Rivera minutes after he speared the humongous rodent with a pitchfork at the Marcy Houses. It’s covered in white fur and looks well-fed. It appears to be about three feet long, including its hideously dangling tail. And Rivera, 48, says it’s not the only one. He insists that while he was filling a rat hole last week, three came running out – but he was only able to nail one. “I hit it one time and it was still moving,” Rivera said. “I hit it another time and that’s when it died. I’m not scared of rats but I was scared of being bitten.” Naomi Colon, head of the Marcy Houses Tenant Association, said there have been sightings of the outsize rat for at least six years. “The residents have told me that they’ve seen it running around with other rats. She lived with them. She ran into the same hole they ran in.” Animal experts who viewed the picture identified the animal as a Gambian pouched rat, which is a fairly common pet rat. They’re nocturnal, can grow to three feet and four pounds or more, and live seven or eight years. Imports have been banned since 2003, when they were blamed for a monkeypox outbreak that sickened 100 people in the United States. Dr. Paul Calle, director of zoological health at the Wildlife Conservation Society, said the Marcy Houses specimen was probably an escaped or discarded pet who decided to join the regular rat race. “They are a very social animal and live in big groups in the wild. Our Norway rats are the closest big rodents it could accompany,” he said. They can even be trained to sniff out landmines or even tuberculosis. “They’re pretty remarkable animals,” Calle said. Tenants fear that the Gambian rat has been breeding with the Norway rats and spawning a super-breed of rodents – but zoo officials say not to worry. The imported rat probably wouldn’t mate with local rats, and it couldn’t reproduce if it did, because each is from a different genus, Calle said. Residents say that while the monster-sized rat may be the stuff of horror movies, the run-of-the-mill rats are an even bigger nightmare at the project where Jay-Z grew up. “Even the cats are afraid of the rats. They get together and gang up on the cats, said resident Stephanie Davis, 44. Pam Davis, 43, added, “They’re here day and night. We don’t dodge bullets. We dodge rats. They’re so big, they should charge them rent.” The New York City Housing Authority had no immediate comment. What the fizzuck!!! These nasty mofos are running around terrorizing CATS! SMH @ “We don’t dodge bullets. We dodge rats.” Source
