Baucus HCR proposal: Worth the Wait?

Senator Max Baucus of the Senate Finance Committee released his committee's health care reform proposal .Though it would meet most of President Obama's goals, it does not supply a government insurance option (as other Senate packages do) or an alternative to one. Originally, the proposal was supposed to be bi-partisan, however it seems only Olympia Snowe of Maine will support it. The proposal is under fire from Democrats, such as Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va), who believe the package is not strong enough.

EU Windows 7 to have multiple browser options?

In an effort to settle a long standing antitrust case brought by the European Commission over the bundling of Windows OS’ with Internet Explorer , Microsoft has promised to give Windows 7 buyers their choice of rival web browsers when the OS ships in October. The OS will be pre-loaded with multiple browsers, and would-be buyers can choose from a “ballot” which browser they want. As always, users can choose one and then download another, or a few others and use whichever they want whenever they want.

Senate votes to add sexual orientation to hate crime protections

WASHINGTON — The Senate has agreed to expand the definition of hate crimes to those committed because of a victim’s sexual orientation and gender identity as part of a Pentagon policy measure that is becoming a magnet for tough social issues. Senators added the anti-bias provisions to the bill Thursday night after voting 63 to 28 to shut off debate on the proposal by Senator Patrick J. Leahy, Democrat of Vermont and chairman of the Judiciary Committee
