Inside Surrogacy And The Path To Achieving Motherhood

Go here to see the original:

Source: Kevin Tachman / Getty What was previously a very private, and in some cases unspoken, way to conceive has become one of the most talked about ways to become a mother. Surrogacy has been life-changing for many women whose path to become a mother was not as simple as getting pregnant on their own. This includes several high-profile celebrities like Kim Kardashian West and Gabrielle Union , who have been open and honest about their journey to motherhood through the surrogacy process, however many still don’t seem to know exactly what having a surrogate actually means. If you look at the comments underneath photos of celebrities who have used a surrogate to expand their families, you’ll see a host of trolls commenters who ask very insensitive, rude and downright ignorant questions about how a child can belong to a mother who did not actually carry her. Although a quick Google search could easily give you all the answers you need on the subject, but, the Internet. In an effort to educate, we’ve compiled everything you need to know about the process that has helped many women around the world fulfill their dream of becoming a mother. First off, it’s important to know that there are two types of surrogacy, gestational and traditional. Traditional surrogacy uses natural insemination and the eggs of the surrogate mother to successfully conceive, this is the option most women choose who no longer have viable eggs to use. A traditional surrogate is the baby’s biological mother because it was her egg that was fertilized by the father’s sperm, however donor sperm can also be used. Gestational surrogacy is done through IVF (in vitro fertilization) or intrauterine insemination and the eggs and/or sperm are taken from both the intended parents, or from a donor in the cases where using the eggs and sperm of the intended parents is not a viable option. Source: Mike Coppola / Getty For example, Kim Kardashian West and husband Kanye West welcomed their daughter Chicago earlier this year via gestational surrogate and they used Kim’s eggs and Kanye’s sperm to place inside their surrogate. This means that the child is 100% biologically theirs and shares no DNA with their surrogate. As a result of the actual genetic ties to the child, gestational surrogacy has become more common than traditional surrogacy. About 750 babies are born each year using gestational surrogacy and the process is less complex legally in the U.S. since both parents have genetic ties. As the process of utilizing a surrogate grows, the numbers are increasing. According to a 2016 report, there are more than 35,000 families using surrogacy out of the 80 million people who are affected by infertility. Once you’ve decided that surrogacy is the right route for you to take to expand your family, you then need to know how to choose the surrogate. As WebMD reports , you need to make sure your surrogate meets these requirements: (1) Is at least 21 years old, (2) Has already given birth to at least one healthy baby so she understands firsthand the medical risks of pregnancy and childbirth and the emotional issues of bonding with a newborn, (3) Has passed a psychological screening by a mental health professional to uncover any issues with giving up the baby after birth and (4) Signs a contract about her role and responsibilities in the pregnancy, such as prenatal care and agreeing to give you the baby after birth. Earlier this week, Gabrielle Union announced that she and husband Dwayne Wade welcomed a baby girl via surrogate, but many fans were puzzled about why she was seen wearing a hospital gown and lying in a hospital bed if she had given birth. Well, that process is known as “skin-to-skin” contact and it involves a newborn being placed directly on top on the intended mother for an immediate bonding experience. Since the baby was inside someone else for 9 months, it’s crucial that once born, the baby immediately forms the initial bond with the intended parents. On her long-running reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians , Kim Kardashian West featured her surrogate in an episode and she discussed the importance of skin-to-skin contact with the whole family. Now, it’s easy to get totally wrapped up in bringing a new bundle of joy into the world, but you also need to be aware of the legal issues and other formal procedures. Surrogacy laws related to parentage vary depending on the state. In states where surrogacy is not supported, intended parents must go through the adoption process to gain legal custody of the child once it’s born. By contrast, states where surrogacy is legal, intended parents are asked to file a pre-birth order known as a “declaration of parentage”. This document allows the intended parents to take home the child after birth and be declared on paper as the legal parents. It’s also stressed that couples have lawyers in place to review all documents, contracts and agreements, to avoid any incidents that may occur. Finally, the cost should definitely be considered because it is not cheap. Surrogacy in the U.S. can cost anywhere between $100,000 to $250,000, depending on the history of the agency used and other unknown costs, such as high-risk pregnancies, bed rest compensation and neonatal care. These costs include fees for the surrogate, agency, laboratory, medicines and hospital bills. The road to motherhood is different for everyone and if you opt to use surrogacy as your method then you should never let the uninformed opinions of others ruin the process of becoming a mother. If you choose to share your journey that’s fine, but you also have the right to keep things private. Here’s hoping that as more people become educated on exactly what surrogacy is, the ignorant comments will fall by the wayside. Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra Reflect on Adoption Nine Years Later

Despite the theories spun by Teen Mom fans, Tyler Batlierra is not leaving Catelynn Lowell . They have another baby on the way! They gave up their first child for adoption. In this new Teen Mom OG sneak peek, Tyler and Catelynn grapple with the bittersweet occassion that is their firstborn's birthday. “It's been almost a year since we've seen our daughter, Carly,” Catelynn says in a voiceover. “But today is her birthday,” Catelynn narrates. “It's usually a hard day for us, so we always try to celebrate it in a positive way.” There are a couple of awkward moments as they eat their salads before they speak on the phone to Dawn, their adoption counselor. They talk about Nova and her ability to understand that it's Carly's birthday. Nova, of course, is only three years old, so immediately asked when the party would be, and if they would have cake and ice cream. Dawn suggests that they send a Nova video to Carly, and Tyler says that it's already in the works. The conversation, which had so far been lighthearted, turns more serious. Dawn praises Catelynn and Tyler, telling them how proud she is of how they're taking this milestone in stride. Adoption can be a difficult process for everyone involved, even though no one questions that they made the right decision. And the two of them have really made great progress in handling the situation with a healthy perspective. As Tyler admits when Dawn comes over to speak to them in person, he and Catelynn weren't always so chill about it. “I think some of our old expectations were unrealistic,” Tyler admits. “Like, [we] signed our rights off,” he says, referring to signing away their parental rights nine years ago. “A couple of years ago,” Tyler confesses. “I was on the other side.” By which he means that he felt entitled to parental rights that he does not possess. Tyler gives an example: “I was like, ‘You wouldn’t be parents if it weren’t for me.’” “It’s acceptance of what role I really play in this child’s life and this family’s life,” Tyler says of his current perspective. Dawn, their adoption counselor, knows that Carly's birthday is a big deal. She walks them through how they might speak to Carly's parents. “If I can advise you in any way,” Dawn says. “I would say a soft landing would be a good thing.” Dawn suggests: “Maybe starting a conversation with, ‘What’s Carly doing today? How are things going with her at school?’” “You love to brag about Nova,” Dawn notes. “She’s gonna love to brag about Carly.” Dawn concludes: “I think that’s gonna be an easier entry into a conversation.” Tyler and Catelynn then speak about the various traumas that they have experienced. While most of Catelynn's PTSD arises from her childhood, as is most often the case, it's not the only source. The adoption that she and Tyler went through as teens was another trauma in her life. That is very understandable. Being conscious of that can be tremendously helpful. Catelynn's miscarriage, she says, was a trigger for a lot of that trauma to resurface in her mind. Catelynn and Tyler have demonstrated more personal and emotional growth than a lot of their co-stars. We're not going to pretend that either of them are perfect. If they didn't have flaws, they wouldn't work as reality stars. But they've really worked hard on themselves and on their relationship. That deserves some recognition.

The Departed: 89-Year-Old Murderous Mafia Boss Whitey Bulger Killed In His Prison Cell

Image via Bureau of Prisons/Getty Images Mafia Boss Whitey Bulger Killed In His Cell If you’ve seen the movie The Departed , then you kind of have an idea of who Whitey Bulger is. Jack Nicholson played the dramatic and psychotic mob boss who wasn’t the least bit afraid to murder you and everyone you love. Bulger was also portrayed by Johnny Depp in the film Black Mass that offered another side of Bulger’s bloodlust. When things got hot for Whitey back in 1975, he became an FBI informant and dropped dime on the mob to save his a$$. His a$$ was not saved. Bulger fled the city on the day he was going to be indicted on a slew of charges, including murder. On June 22, 2011 Whitey was found, arrested and subsequently sentenced to life in prison. Well, according to DailyMail , the now 89-year-old Bulger was found murdered in his prison cell today by fellow inmate who had mob ties. Bulger had just been transferred to an admittedly short-staffed West Virginia prison called USP Hazelton where there have been three homicides in the past three months. The Bureau of Prisons officials refused to explain why the mobster was transferred. At one point, Bulger was one of the most wanted criminals in United States history, seems a lil’ strange that all of a sudden at damn-near 90 years old he was transferred and murdered. Either that’s one hell of a grudge to hold for all these years, or…

‘HTGAWM’ Recap: Annalise Pisses Off The Governor With Another Major Win

Read the original here:

Source: Mitch Haaseth / Getty Tonight’s episode of How to Get Away With Murder finds Annalise in the thick of her Nate Sr appeal case. It’s not looking too good right now, especially when the court throws a wrench in their plans. They find out that Nate Jr is being called to the stand as a surprise witness, something they weren’t prepared for. The thing is, Nate wrote a letter, when he was a kid, saying that he felt safer with his father behind bars. Nate claims he doesn’t even remember writing the letter and no longer feels that way, but that obviously doesn’t go over well in court, so Annalise and her students have to work in overdrive to figure out how to come out on top.  Meanwhile, Bonnie is spiraling because Nate dug up a whole lot of trauma. She heads to Nate’s house to ask why he did what he did. In her mind, he meant to do her dirty, but we know that Nate is a genuinely good guy and he did a very naive thing. He explains that he did what he did because he thought it would help but Bonnie reminds him that he just triggered her all over again. She tried to kill herself over that situation and managed to get past it but now she’s going to have to try to build herself back up again. Nate wants to try to make it better but there’s nothing he can do at this point. Eventually, we find Annalise and Nate together kicking it and discussing the case. Nate said he lied on the stand and that he did actually remember writing the letter. Again, he was a kid when he wrote it, stressed out and angry with his father. When he saw the cops taking his father away he was upset and felt like the cops were the good guys and his dad wasn’t and he wanted to be like the cops. It’s clear that he feels terrible about that decision and he’s stressed about what his testimony did to the case but Annalise reminds him who tf she is! She took her appeals case to the supreme court and won. Do you think she’s going to lose in Philly? Nah! It’s going to be hard because the governor has a vendetta against her for doing this in the first place, and even sends a psychologist who worked with Nate Sr. years ago to testify and to poke holes in the insanity defense. Little did the psych know is that Michaela convinced Asher to dig up some dirt on him and basically, it’s clear that he works for the governor’s office so of course, he’s on the stand saying what’s necessary to stay in his boss’ good graces. His entire testimony gets thrown out because Annalise ain’t playing no games! Then Nate Sr. takes the stand and hold that thought… Bonnie ends up telling her boyfriend, Ronald, everything that happened in her childhood, and about her getting pregnant at 15 and now learning that her son might be alive. After hearing all of that he still wants to be with her and she is a wreck, but he consoles her and they come up with a plan. Hold that thought. The jury finally reaches a verdict and all of Annalise’s fierce fighting (and her students too) pays off. The jury’s verdict is not guilty by reason of insanity. Annalise’s poster case a victory. This. Is. A. Big. Deal.   His father will be transferred to a suitable psychiatric facility. Nate Sr. and Nate Jr. have a beautiful moment in the courtroom where they hug it out and exchange forgiveness. Annalise talks to the press about how dope she is, Laurel lets Frank know that she knows he has been stalking Gabe for something a lot deeper than just researching Annalise’s students but we’ll have to wait for the answer. Finally, the episode wraps with Bonnie and Ron going to see her sister and then we cut back to the wedding. Connor looking for Oliver but he finds Asher going down on his mom. Ew! Two more episodes until we find out who died at the wedding. RELATED POSTS ‘HTGAWM’ Recap: If [Redacted] Dies, We Riot ‘HTGAWM’ Recap: Nate Digs Up Another Bone From Bonnie’s Graveyard Of Secrets

Ariel Winter Big Fat Ass in Leggings of the Day

The only exciting thing to me about Ariel Winter is that I assume she’ll have a mental breakdown and lose her fucking shit eventually… For now, she’s keeping shit relatively cool, she had a bit of a lapse when she turned 18 and emancipated herself from her psycho stage parent of a mother, where she started dressing slutty for her fans, and eating her weight in food, that made her tits she had cut off, come back as big as ever, but probably not as sloppy thanks to the reshaping…. But with that emotional eating came fatness, fatness that her constant working out couldn’t fix, because ABS ARE MADE IN THE KITCHEN… All while having a great job on a hit show that people watch…you know the job that aspiring actors everywhere go crazy for, the dream is to be on a network sitcom even though no one watches that shit anymore, except maybe old white trash, but still…it’s a good gig to have…but this one doesn’t realize it cuz she’s always had it…and even with her mooch boyfriend who is zero famous or successful as an actor in her face…she doesn’t realize what she’s pulled off thanks to stage parent mom.. I mean…she’s not even that cute, yet on TV weekly…crazy… Or maybe she is starting to realize it, which is why she’s back in the gym posting up booty exercises to give you all boners…since 18 year olds who look like 40 year olds thanks to being sloppy bodied is your fetish…cuz she’s rich and famous…which makes being an 18 year old who look like 40 year old thanks to being sloppy bodied pretty mint. (mint is a word people say on instagram to mean good like the TEA). Here she is sucking it in Booty workout JOIN THE NEWSLETTER YOU ASSHOLES! ‘HTGAWM’ Recap: Nate Digs Up Another Bone From Bonnie’s Graveyard Of Secrets

More here:

Source: Joshua Blanchard / Getty How to Get Away With Murder picks up back at Connor and Oliver’s wedding. We’re in the bathroom with Bonnie and Michaela. Michaela is lowkey freaking out about the blood on Bonnie’s leg and asks whose blood it is. Bonnie says, “Relax, I cut myself shaving,” as calmly as she can, but we all know what universe this is and we know Bonnie is lying. Now we cut back two months before that. Nate is still trying as hard as he can to see who the woman is, in the surveillance photo he has, kidnapping baby Gabriel. He zooms in and it looks a lot like Bonnie. Meanwhile, Annalise is giving a lecture to her students detailing the traits of a psychopath. This relates to her new client, Niles Harrington, a wealthy CEO accused of murdering his business partner. Niles is a controversial character who wrote a book called, “The CEO Psychopath,” and not a lot of people are fond of him in general. Obviously, the book isn’t flying too well in court, so the prosecutor is running with the whole psychopath angle. However, Annalise is on it because that’s what she does. She’s working co-counsel with her boss, but so far so good. That is until one of the witnesses, Nile’s secretary, changes a statement she made earlier which makes her look shady. As a result, Annalise is pushing to try to pin this crime on her. Niles doesn’t want to (because she wouldn’t hurt a fly according to him) but we know how Annalise does. In related news, Asher is interning at the DA’s office for prosecutor Ron Miller, who just so happens to be the prosecutor on Annalise’s case. As a result of Asher being salty that Annalise didn’t accept him into her clinic, he tells Miller what Annalise’s next move would be (pinning it on the secretary), and convinces Miller to believe him. That’s not hard give that has spent so much time with Annalise. Later on, Miller tries to make a deal with Annalise that could help both of them out, but in the end, Annalise decides not to take it because it would screw her boss over. Eventually, Annalise thinks Niles killed his associate because he was sleeping with his wife and then we get to the plot twist. Nile’s wife killed the associate but he refuses to let her go down for it and legit threatens to kill them before he allows either of them to blow up his wife’s spot. So, the next defense play is saying that Nile’s business partner accidentally killed himself by asphyxiation. There’s a belt in question here, so they have the secretary try it on and it fits. Niles tries it on and it doesn’t fit, and you already know he just had to make an OJ Simpson reference: “If it doesn’t fit you must acquit!” That outburst is just one of a couple of instances that demonstrate the arrogance that makes people not like this man. Annalise put together a stunning but the jury still finds Niles Harrington guilty. Annalise, her boss, Niles, and his wife are all looking like… Niles mentions that it’s because the jury hates him and has bias due to the book. This is true because it really seemed like he was about to get off. Annalise still tries to convince him to turn his wife in because she only killed his business associate because she was worried about the money she would lose if he left the company but Niles won’t do it. He’s too soft and pink for her. The only hope now is a retrial due to bias and that’s that for now. Nate finds the attending nurse who was present on the night the baby was kidnapped and gets her to talk. Basically, Bonnie’s father was trying to leave the baby to become a ward of the state (because it was the product of him sexually exploiting his teenage daughter) but Bonnie later on panicked and said she had a change of heart and that she wanted to do the right thing but her dad wouldn’t let her be great. Nate shows her the photo of Bonnie and the woman confirms that issa match! So, we can assume Bonnie kidnapped her own baby and the nurse allowed it to happen because she also felt like she was doing the right thing. Nate takes this information to Annalise and says he didn’t want to say anything until he had receipts. Annalise starts shaking her head because it turns out that Bonnie didn’t kidnap her baby. It was Bonnie’s sister. PLOT TWIST! And now we cut back to Connor and Oliver’s wedding. This is after the bathroom incident so Bonnie (or possibly her sister) is back in the crowd. Michaela is back in the crowd but she keeps glancing at Bonnie/Bonnie’s sister because something doesn’t feel right and Oliver is being called to the dance floor but he’s missing. Yeah, we’re all confused! Is this Bonnie’s twin or are they supposed to be the type of sister that just look a hell of a lot alike? Quavo Hints At A Migos & Drake Mixtape [Video]

Featuring: Drake Where: Toronto, Canada When: 09 Sep 2017 Credit: Euan Cherry/WENN.com Uploaded By Godspeed It looks like we might be getting more Drake and Migos vibes before the year is out. Quavo alluded that a collaborative project might be in the works. As Complex reports the “Stir Fry” rapper quietly dropped a bombshell while making the promotional rounds for his upcoming solo debut album. During a social media themed response segment with  GQ, Huncho was asked on Twitter if the two camps will be working together again. “Quick thought but what if Migos and Drake dropped a collab mixtape after the tour?” To which Quavo responded “You must be a psychic. If that don’t tell you something I don’t know what to tell you.” Drizzy and the trap trio have had a long history together starting in 2013 with the remix to “Versace”; the track that seemingly jump started the group’s career. They followed things up with “Walk It Like I Talk” on  Culture 2 . Most recently the “Aubrey & Three Migos Tour” brought them all together for several sold out shows throughout the country. While no further details are known about the mixtape it is safe to assume that we will have to wait some time before it sees the light of day. On October 12 the Migos front man will release his highly anticipated Quavo Huncho . Additionally the writing is on the wall that Takeoff’s solo LP will follow soon after. You can check the rest of the GQ clip below where he also discusses his high school football career, supplies some very key definitions to Migo’ lingo and confirms their immaculate eating etiquette. Taylor Swift Returns! See Her First TV Performance in 3 Years!

In a powerful and candid Instagram post this week,  Taylor Swift urged citizens to take action next month and vote in the midterm elections. Not long afterwards, the singer took an action herself that she had not taken in three years: She performed on stage at an awards show. Indeed, Swift opened the 2018 American Music Awards on Tuesday night with a rendition of “I Did Something Bad,” reminding viewers everywhere that she deserves the honor she would later win at the ceremony. (Swift was named Artist of the Year and, in the process, became the most decorated female artist in American Music Awards history.) The 28-year-old pop sensation donned a sparkly long-sleeve leotard with over-the-knee leather black boots for her wildly-anticipated performance. She also brought the drama with smoke and a giant snake (!!!!!!!) – which has been her Reputation tour logo and which has been a response to being called a snake years ago by Kim Kardashian – behind her on stage. It was clear those in attendance were psyched to have Swift back in their lives. “They’re burning all the witches, even if you aren’t one/They got their pitchforks and proof,” Swift sings in the featured track. Having received some criticism from Republicans for not supporting any of their candidates in her aforementioned social media message, Swift did not back down at the AMAs. In her Artist of the Year acceptance speech, she didn't take any side… but she did remain political. “Thank you so much for this,” she said on stage, adding: “And I just wanted to make a mention of the fact that this award, and every single award given out tonight, were voted on by the people. And you know what else is voted on by the people? “The midterm elections on 6 November. Get out and vote – I love you guys.” And we love you, Taylor. We hope this was not a temporary return to the spotlight. Check out her performance now!
