Did President Obama Lie About Being Born in Kenya?

A year after he put “birther” rumors to rest by releasing his birth certificate , President Obama’s background is back in the news again … with a twist. An old bio of Obama from his former literary agent says he was born in Kenya, renewing debate over the authenticity of his own account(s) of his past. You could essentially call this “reverse birtherism.” In 2011, Obama proved born in the U.S., but did he lie in the past about being Kenyan-born to craft a more exotic, interesting-sounding background? According to a booklet produced by Acton & Dystel, to showcase its roster of writers, Obama was “born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii.” Obama’s former literary agency says they merely misidentified his birthplace as Kenya while trying to promote the then-Harvard Law grad in 1991. Miriam Goderich edited the text of the bio; she is now a partner at the Dystel & Goderich agency, which lists Obama as one of its current clients. “This was nothing more than a fact checking error by me – an agency assistant at the time,” Goderich wrote in an emailed statement to Yahoo News. “There was never any information given to us by Obama suggesting he was born in Kenya and not Hawaii … [it was] a simple mistake and nothing more.” Breitbart.com, the site founded by the late Andrew Breitbart, broke this story as part of ” The Vetting ,” its ongoing series about Obama’s past. Breitbart died in March, shockingly at age 43, but beforehand, he set out to do what he felt mainstream media would not during the 2008 election. Essentially, that being to ask tough questions about Obama’s background, rather than accepting the Presidential candidate’s two memoirs as gospel. Breitbart.com published a lengthy disclaimer with the brochure and this story, saying it does not believe Obama was actually born outside of the U.S.: “Andrew Breitbart was never a ‘Birther,’ and Breitbart News is a site that has never advocated the narrative of ‘Birtherism,'” the site clarified. “In fact, Andrew believed, as we do, that President Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on August 4, 1961. Yet Andrew also believed that the complicit mainstream media had refused to examine President Obama’s ideological past, or the carefully crafted persona he and his advisers had constructed for him.” “It is for that reason that we launched The Vetting, an ongoing series in which we explore the ideological background of President Obama (and other candidates) – not to re-litigate 2008, but because ideas and actions have consequences.” “It is also in that spirit that we discovered, and now present, the booklet described below – one that includes a marketing pitch for a forthcoming book by a then-young, otherwise unknown former president of the Harvard Law Review.” “It is evidence – not of the President’s foreign origin, but that Barack Obama’s public persona has perhaps been presented differently at different times.” While this publication will no doubt fuel “birthers” who refuse to believe Obama was born in the U.S., but the point is actually entirely separate. Is it really possible that the full bio below would never have been proofread by Obama in the 16 years it was used (it was corrected in 2007)? Make of it what you want, but if that’s an error, as the publisher claims, it’s a pretty bad one, and raises some rather legitimate questions. We cannot know whether the publisher and/or Obama himself were aware of the error, but the idea that one or both allowed the “mistake” to slide to make his biography more compelling is not entirely far-fetched. The broader questions: Has Obama’s biography, which also included a “composite” of past girlfriends (one of which was Genevieve Cook ) shifted to meet his needs over time? If so, what are the implications of that on his ability to be President? Does it make him different from any other politician? Does that matter? Here’s Obama’s full bio from the 1991 brochure: Barack Obama, the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review, was born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii. The son of an American anthropologist and a Kenyan finance minister, he attended Columbia University and worked as a financial journalist and editor for Business International Corporation. He served as project coordinator in Harlem for the New York Public Interest Research Group, and was Executive Director of the Developing Communities Project in Chicago’s South Side. His commitment to social and racial issues will be evident in his first book, Journeys in Black and White . NOTE: This report is NOT connected to the new book about Obama, called The Amateur by Ed Klein. A story about Obama’s near-divorce , excerpted from that new and unauthorized biography, surfaced late last week.

J.K. Rowling announces she will donate all royalties to charity. By Fallon Prinzivalli Daniel Radcliffe in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” Photo: Warner Bros. Last week, fans of J.K. Rowling were treated to the title and release date of the “Harry Potter” author’s new novel, “The Casual Vacancy.” This week is sure to have fans buzzing again as it brings the news that she’s started working on a “Harry Potter” encyclopedia. Rowling answered a fan question regarding the highly anticipated Potter lexicon on the “frequently asked questions and rumours” page of her website. “For a long time I have been promising an encyclopaedia of Harry’s world, and I have started work on this now — some of it forms the new content in Pottermore. It is likely to be a time-consuming job, but when finished I shall donate all royalties to charity.” Back in 2008, Rowling and Warner Brothers won a lawsuit against Steve Vander Ark, the publisher of the Harry Potter Lexicon, who attempted to release a book along the same lines. Rowling also addressed the biggest burning fan question of all on her website: Will there ever be another “Harry Potter” novel? “I have always refused to say ‘never’ to this question,” the British author wrote, “because I think it would be foolish to rule out something I might want to do in a few years’ time. However, I have no immediate plans to write another Harry Potter novel, and I do think that I have rounded off Harry’s story in seven published books.” With the sheer volume of a project like the Harry Potter encyclopedia, it’s unlikely it will be available anytime soon. But Rowling’s first adult novel, “The Casual Vacancy,” is set to be released on September 27, 2012. The novel follows a quaint town in the wake of a death that leaves an empty seat on the parish council. Despite appearances, the town isn’t all it seems. Behind closed doors it’s in a continual state of war and this sudden death leaves it in its biggest war yet. Should J.K. Rowling write another “Harry Potter” book? Leave your comment below! ? RihRih Responds To Dutch Magazine That Called Her Ni**a B***h With Two Choice Words… “Eff You”

RihRih don’t play dat! The Bajan singer apparently didn’t take too kindly to that Jackie Magazine article we told y’all about . She took to her Twitter today to blast the mag’s EIC for the racial slur: And in related news… that same Editor-In-Chief has stepped down after apologizing for the controversy via Facebook, according to NecoleBitchie reports: According to a statement posted on the Magazine’s facebook [translated] the publisher felt as though her credibility was affected and it was best that she resigned: I realize that my first reaction on Twitter, where I indicated that it was a joke, was an incomplete description of what I, and also the author of the article referred. The term ‘n—a b—h’ h” has come over from America and we have only this to describe this particular style of clothes that we can try to interpret. Due to the enormous pressure from social media, I promised to do better regarding the language in future issues of Jackie and I have offered to rectify the situation. I have now come to the conclusion that rectification is not the right solution. I regret that I have taken too quickly positions on an item in Jackie – which incidentally had no underlying racial motive. In the course of events I went with, the publisher came to the conclusion that, now that my credibility is affected, it’s better for all parties if I immediately lay down my duties as editor. After my eight years giving my heart and soul for Jackie, I realize that these errors – although not malicious intent – are a reason for leaving. “ Deuces Beyotch! More On Bossip! Vanessa Vs. Rihanna Article Backlash Leads To Editor’s Resignation

Dutch magazine Jackie says story ‘had no racial motive at its basis.’ By Jocelyn Vena Rihanna Photo: Getty Images After Rihanna took to Twitter to respond to a racial slur used by Dutch fashion magazine Jackie in a recent article written about her, the magazine’s editor-in-chief, Eva Hoeke, has resigned from her position at the publication. In a press release translated by Parlourmagazine.com, the publishers of Jackie attempt to break down the sequence of events, including a Facebook apology from Hoeke about the article, followed by Rihanna’s tweets in response, and confirm that the editor has resigned, effective immediately. “I realize that my first reaction through Twitter, in which I indicated that it was a joke, has been an incomplete description of what me, and also the author of the article, meant. The term ‘n—abitch’ came from America and we solely used it to describe a style of dress. Because of the enormous pressure through social media I was tempted to promise amendment regarding the language in future issues of Jackie ,” Hoeke says in the lengthy statement. “Apart from that I also offered a rectification. I have now come to the conclusion that rectification is not the right solution. I regret that I have taken a stand too quickly regarding an article in Jackie — which moreover had no racial motive at its basis. Through the course of events, me and the publisher have concluded that because my credibility is now affected, it is better for all parties if I quit my function as editor-in-chief effective immediately,” it continues. “After putting my heart and soul into for Jackie for eight years, I realize that these errors — although not intended maliciously — are enough reason for leaving. … I should have counted to ten before taking un-nuanced stands through social media channels.” The magazine has extended an invitation to Rihanna “to share her feelings and thoughts on the article in the next issue.” A rep for the singer had not responded to MTV News’ request for comment as of press time. Diane Kruger Does GQ Naked of the Day

I don’t really know who Diane Kruger is. I just know she’s German and Germans like to get intense, agry, emotionless, demented sex with good engineering. Lying is Not Patriotic

Ron Paul Texas Straight Talk December 14, 2010 WikiLeaks’ release of classified information has generated a lot of attention world-wide in the past few weeks. The hysterical reaction makes one wonder if this is not an example of killing the messenger for the bad news. Any information that challenges the official propaganda for the war in the Middle East is unwelcome by the administration and supporters of these unnecessary wars. Few are interested in understanding the relationship of our foreign policy and our presence in the Middle East to the threat of terrorism. Revealing the real nature and goal for our presence in so many Muslim countries is a threat to our empire and any revelation of this truth is highly resented by those in charge. Questions to consider: 1. Do the American people deserve to know the truth regarding the ongoing war in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Yemen? 2. Could a larger question be: how can an Army Private gain access to so much secret material? 3. Why is the hostility mostly directed at Assange, the publisher, and not our government’s failure to protect classified information? 4. Are we getting our money’s worth from the $80 billion per year we spend on our intelligence agencies? 5. Which has resulted in the greatest number of deaths; lying us into war, or WikiLeaks’ revelations or the release of the Pentagon Papers? 6. If Assange can be convicted of a crime for publishing information, that he did not steal, what does this say about the future of the First Amendment and the independence of the internet? 7. Could it be that the real reason for the near universal attacks on WikiLeaks is more about secretly maintaining a seriously flawed foreign policy of empire than it is about national security? 8. Is there not a huge difference between releasing secret information to help the enemy in the time of a declared war—which is treason—and the releasing of information to expose our government lies that promote secret wars, death, and corruption? 9. Was it not once considered patriotic to stand up to our government when it’s wrong? more at link… added by: rodstradamus

Linkin Park Say New Single ‘The Catalyst’ Is ‘A Risk, But Worth It’

‘We wanted a track that represented where the album was going to be and how it was going to work,’ says bassist Phoenix Farrell. By James Montgomery Linkin Park Photo: James Minchin Last week, gamers everywhere thrilled to the new trailer for the upcoming “Medal of Honor,” which was directed by Linkin Park ‘s Joseph Hahn and features the band’s brand-new single, “The Catalyst.” And while the trailer no doubt had “MOH” fanatics going crazy, it may have left LP fans feeling a bit confused. Because “The Catalyst” is undoubtedly unlike any song the band has ever released. A moody, synth-heavy, decidedly doomy rumination on the broken times in which we live, it seems to back up the group’s claims that their new album, A Thousand Suns, will be a drastic departure from anything they’ve done in the past. And that, according to LP bassist Dave “Phoenix” Farrell, was precisely the point. “We wanted a track that represented where the album was going to be and how it was going to work, and this was really the track to do that. … It’s a risk, but [it’s] worth it,” he told MTV News earlier this week. “We’ve known [the album is] going to be different, and if fans were expecting Hybrid Theory or Meteora, they’re going to be surprised. It’s going to take people some time to figure it out and know what to do with it.” Farrell wouldn’t go into greater detail about just how the new album, due September 14, will differ from Linkin Park’s previous efforts, but any fan with a pair of ears should be able to tell based on “The Catalyst” alone. The songs are bigger, deeper, decidedly weirder. And while Farrell didn’t exactly back up frontman Chester Bennington’s earlier claims that A Thousand Suns is a full-blown “concept” album, he didn’t really deny them either. “I’ve never liked the title ‘concept record,’ to me that holds up the idea of Tommy or The Wall. And I love those records, but this is not that,” he said. “There are a couple threads that run throughout it, but, for us, the only concept is that it’s not intended to be a collection of individual songs. It’s constructed in a way and thought of in terms of ‘How will it flow?’ I would love … in this day and age, for our fans just once to sit down and listen to it from front to back. We want it to work as an experience.” And to that end, Farrell said the band always wanted to tie “The Catalyst” into a video game of some sort. The way they see it, it only adds another layer to the experience. So when the “Medal of Honor” folks approached them, they leapt at the opportunity. Though, sadly, working with Electronic Arts — the publisher and developer of the “MOH” series — hasn’t improved their gaming skills any. But you can’t really blame LP for that. After all, they’ve been working on A Thousand Suns for a long time now. “I loved the old ‘Medal of Honor’ games, but since we’ve been working on the new album — and really, since I had kids — I’ve kind of hung it up for a while,” Farrell laughed. “It sucks because now I have a younger brother who’s 15 and when we play against each other, it’s not even competitive. It’s ridiculous. And it pisses me off. He’s laughing and sh–. He’s killing me with his knife.” Related Artists Linkin Park
