GEEEEEEET TFOHWTBS! In his first extensive interview since being fired, Paterno shared his side of the 2002 episode. He became a flashpoint for criticism in November because he did not contact the police about the suspected assault, which was reported to him by a graduate assistant. Paterno instead relayed the allegations to the athletic director and another top university official. “I didn’t know exactly how to handle it, and I was afraid to do something that might jeopardize what the university procedure was,” Paterno told The Washington Post. “So I backed away and turned it over to some other people, people I thought would have a little more expertise than I did. It didn’t work out that way.” The athletic director, Tim Curley, and the university official, Gary Schultz, have been charged with failure to report the 2002 episode to police. They also are charged with lying to a grand jury about their knowledge of the matter. Paterno said that he had “no inkling” that Sandusky, who has been charged with more than 50 counts of sexual abuse against boys, might have been engaged in deviant behavior. Paula Patton has a mission that’s apparently impossible: paying taxes… What’s owed: The IRS filed a $492,583 tax lien against Paula Patton and Robin Thicke on Dec. 28 with the Los Angeles County Recorder of Deeds. The address on the tax lien is a Post Office box in Santa Monica, Calif. Here’s their home in Los Angeles. Buuuuuut it doesn’t seem that they were avoiding the tax man. Pope Benedict XVI denounced gay marriage in his annual “State of the World” address Monday, going so far as to say the same-sex nuptials threaten the future of humanity. In the speech, the pope, 84, unleashed what some consider being his strongest tirade against gay marriage, saying it is among conventions that “undermine the family” and “threaten human dignity and the future of humanity itself,” Reuters reported. “Pride of place goes to the family, based on the marriage of a man and woman,” the pontiff said. “This is not a simple convention, but rather the fundamental cell of every society,” he continued. “Consequently, policies which undermine the family threaten human dignity and the future of humanity itself.” The pope also condemned laws that “not only permit but at times even promote abortion for reasons of convenience or for questionable medical motives.” The annual address was delivered to an audience of Vatican diplomats from nearly 180 countries. The Catholic Church, which teaches that homosexual acts are sins, and that marriage should be between a man and woman, is a notorious adversary of same-sex unions. Next month, the pope will elevate New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan to cardinal. Dolan, a leading opponent of gay marriage, once sent a letter to President Obama, blasting the administration for not supporting a federal ban on gay marriage. Dolan said Obama’s decision could “precipitate a national conflict between church and state of enormous proportions.” The pope touched on a wide range of topics in the new year address, including world violence and fiscal crisis. Here he goes again… After already providing his illuminating views on the Kardashian clan and their success, actor Daniel Craig has continued to speak with candor, this time on the subject of politicians. Daniel Craig isn’t one to mince words, and in the latest issue of Men’s Health, he has found his latest target: politicians. “You immediately are aligning yourself with a political party,” Craig told the magazine. “Politicians are sh–heads. That’s how they become politicians, even the good ones. “We’re actors, we’re artists, we’re very nice to each other. They’ll turn around and stab you in the f–king back.” Craig, 43, earlier this year called the Kardashians “f–king idiots” for parading around Hollywood televising their most intimate moments, and his assessment of kowtowing politicians is no less flattering. “Tony Blair started it much more than anybody’s ever done,” he said of politicians who attempt to be on-the-ins with the celebrity crowd. “It becomes ‘Mephisto,’ ” he said, referencing a 1981 film about an actor who aligns with the Nazis in order to climb the social ladder. One man who balances on the line between politicians and celebrity that the “James Bond” actor does respect, however, is George Clooney. “George has his finger on the political pulse, and he’s one of those guys who can get up and talk, and I don’t have that … If someone shoves a microphone in your face and says, ‘Explain yourself,’ you have to have a 100% understanding of why you’re doing it, and unless you’re 100%, don’t f–king do it, leave it alone, let your work speak for itself.” We like this guy, he just tells it like it is.
