John Hostetter Dies; Murphy Brown Actor Was 69

John Hostetter – a character actor best known for his time on the popular long-running sitcom Murphy Brown – has passed away at the age of 69. Hostetter’s family says he had been battling cancer for several years. In 60 episodes of Murphy Brown , Hostetter played John, the levelheaded stage manager of the fictional show-within-a-show, FYI. He racked up dozens of other and television credits over the years, including parts on  NYPD Blue , MacGyver , L.A. Law , ER , Family Ties , and G.I. Joe . His film credits include  Into the Night , Heartbreak Ridge , Beverly Hills Cop II , No Way Out and Leonard Part 6 , opposite Bill Cosby. Hostetter is also well-known to Muppets fans for his role in the cult favorite DVD Kermit’s Swampland . The Brooklyn native, who grew up in Hanover, Maryland, got his start on the stage. Hostetter reportedly wowed audiences in a 1971 production of Waiting For Godot , in which he co-starred with a young Christopher Reeve. But it wasn’t until 1988 that Hostetter rose to national prominence after being cast on Brown – one of the most popular and acclaimed sitcoms of its time. The show won’t be found in many syndicated markets these days, as its topical, political humor made it very much a product of its era. During its ten-season run on CBS, however, the series was regarded as a ground-breaking television achievement. A sitcom that skewered, with equal aplomb, the worlds of Washington and TV news, Brown helped paved the way for politically-charged scripted series, as well as left-leaning late night shows like The Daily Show and The Colbert Report . It’s difficult to overstate the show’s influence, and while he was never a principal cast member, Hostetter was a favorite amongst fans. While Brown ‘s political commentary helped it win over critics, the purely comedic scenes, of the variety that so often featured Hostetter, were essential to making a commercial hit. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Passed Away in 2016: Gone, But Not Forgotten Social media tributes from fans and colleagues alike began pouring in on social media shortly after news of Hostetter’s death went public. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Del Hostetter. Our thoughts go out to the actor’s family during this difficult time.

That Can Happen??? Aggressive Hickey Leads To Stroke Death Of A 17-Year-Old Boy

Hickey Leads To The Death Of A Teenage Boy In Mexico City An NYDailyNews report warns that aggressive foreplay could actually be fatal… A hickey may have killed a Mexico City teen, who suffered a fatal stroke not long after his girlfriend gave him the kiss of death. Julio Macias Gonzalez, 17, went into convulsions and died while having dinner with his family, according to Mexican news site Hoyestado.com. His 24-year-old make-out partner, who has not been identified, is reportedly in hiding. If you’ve never necked before, hickeys are caused when a someone sucks on or aggressively kisses someone’s skin hard enough to break the blood vessels located beneath the surface of the skin. According to local media reports, doctors believe that the suction which forms the tell-tale mark also created a blood clot that traveled to the young man’s brain and caused the massive stroke. A similar love bite famously caused a 44-year-old New Zealand woman to lose movement in her left arm in 2010. Emergency responders couldn’t figure out what was causing her stroke — until they noticed a hickey on the right side of her neck. They concluded that the aggressive kissing session had damaged a major artery and formed a blood clot that traveled to her heart and caused a minor stroke. R.I.P. to Julio Gonzalez, that’s a heartbreaking and totally unexpected way to lose your life. Image via Shutterstock

Wow: Man Defends His 4 Deadly Dogs After They Dismembered & Killed Elderly Neighbor Taking Out Trash “My Dogs Ain’t No Vicious Dogs” [Video]

This guy and any other person who defends a dog after it has killed a human for “teasing” it is as dumb as a box of nails… Straight up! actionnewsjax.com : Four dogs were removed from an Eastside home Friday night after police say a man died as the result of an animal attack. The dog’s owner is defending his pets and took us inside his backyard where the attack happened. The dogs’ owner, Lephus Felton, believes his dogs were provoked before the attack. But Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office investigators and neighbors that we spoke with say that wasn’t the case. “My dogs ain’t no vicious dogs. They’re vicious to protect this yard,” Felton said. Felton owns the four dogs. Our crew watched animal control officers remove the dogs from Felton’s home off Van Buren and Jessie streets. “My dog is trained to protect this yard I have signs, beware of dog signs, all over,” Felton said. Felton showed us where the deadly attack happened in his backyard. “It happened right here. How are they going to get him and pull him back in?” Felton said. Felton said the unidentified victim, a man police say is in his 60s, provoked the animals. But witnesses tell Action News Jax and JSO investigators the victim was taking out the garbage at this dumpster behind Felton’s yard when the dogs went under this fence and dragged him back here, killing him. “Looks like they went underneath the fence by all accounts we have,” said JSO Sgt. C.H. Ford. “No. How are they going to do that there?” said Felton. Felton said the only time his dogs have shown signs of aggression is if passersby would tease them. JSO said it is too soon to tell which dogs actually attacked and what will happen to them. Investigators said they are working with the State Attorney’s Office to decide if the owners will face charges. Protect your backyard from what? Neil Hanvey, World’s Biggest Star Wars Fan, Dies of Cancer

Neil Hanvey, considered by many to be the biggest Star Wars fan on the planet, has finally lost his battle with cancer. He was 36 years old. Hanvey, who was diagnosed with the disease three and a half years ago, passed away on Monday, just two days after having his latest wish fulfilled: He was fortunate enough to attend a special screening of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, months prior to its December release. The movie buff’s family had initiated a worldwide social media campaign in order to make this dream come true for Hanvey. “On behalf of Neil Hanvey, his wife Andrea and all his family, we want to thank everyone who supported the #RogueOneWish campaign,” St Michael’s Hospice in England wrote in a Facebook post on Monday. “The director of Rogue One, Gareth Edwards did all he could to make Saturday a very special day for Neil. “Neil, his family and everyone at St Michael’s Hospice would like to say thank you to Disney, Lucasfilm and especially Gareth Edwards.” Rogue One Trailer: “Star Wars Story” Goes Back in Time to Reign of Vader The #RogueOneWish campaign, which kicked off in April, generated a tremendous amount of support online, including retweets from Star Wars actor Mark Hamill. On Tuesday, Hanvey’s wife released a statement of gratitude, thanking those who had helped turn her husband’s wish into a reality. She has set up a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for St. Michael’s as well. “On behalf of all our family we would like to thank everyone who has passed on their condolences following Neil’s death last night,” she said in a statement to St Michael’s. “We would also like to thank the tens of thousands of people who supported the #RogueOneWish campaign. All the messages of love during the past week have given us a great deal of comfort during a very difficult time. “We would also like to thank everyone at St Michael’s Hospice, especially Amy Duncan, without who #RogueOneWish would not have happened. “All donations at Neil’s funeral will go to the Hospice’s Family Support team and will be used to fund work with children and young people.” Last year, a terminally ill fan named Daniel Fleetwood was granted his wish to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens prior to its global release. In 2013, director J.J. Abrams made a similar dream come true for a very sick fan of Star Trek in regard to Into the Darkness. Rogue One – the first of many planned Star Wars spinoffs – hits theaters on December 16. It stars Diego Luna, Felicity Jones, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen and Ben Mendelsohn. We send our condolences to the family of Neil Hanvey and his loved ones.

Lou Pearlman Dies; Backstreet Boys, ‘NSync Creator Was 62

Lou Pearlman, the infamous record producer who created such boy bands as The Backstreet Boys and ‘NSync, died in prison on Thursday, according to a Federal Bureau of Prisons record. He was 62 years old. The cause of death is believed to have been an undisclosed illness. Known in during the heyday of his career “Big Poppa,” Pearlman was one of the world’s most successful music producers in the 1990s. Based in Orlando, he created The Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, LFO and O-Town. In 2000, however, members of The Backstreet Boys filed a lawsuit against their manager, claiming that Pearlman had set up their contract in an unfair manner. Via court documents, the band alleged that they had only received $300,000 …while Pearlman received millions. Soon afterwards, NSYNC also filed a similar lawsuit, as did Aaron Carter (pictured below with Pearlman) in 2002. Still, it wasn’t until 2006 when Pearlman got into real legal trouble. At that time, investigators discovered that he had defrauded investors of over $300 million in a Ponzi scheme. He did so by somehow convincing wealthy investors to put their money into shell corporations that did not exist. Pearlman fled to Indonesia in response to the charges and was captured in 2007. A year later, Pearlman pleaded guilty to charges of money laundering, conspiracy and fraud. He was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison, although a judge ruled that Pearlman could reduce his prison time ; for every million he paid back, the judge would take one month off his sentence. Pearlman never paid a dime. “Word is that #LouPearlman has passed away,” Lance Bass wrote in response to this news, adding: “He might not have been a stand-up businessman, but I wouldn’t be doing what I love today w/out his influence. RIP Lou.” View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Passed Away in 2016: Gone, But Not Forgotten Pearlman was a diabetic who suffered a stroke in 2010. “It was definitely a wake-up call,” he told The Hollywood Reporter at the time, adding that he had since lost 75 pounds by walking around the prison track. It’s unclear whether this disease contributed to his death. View Slideshow: 90s Boy Bands: Where Are They Now?

Tyler Baltierra: In Therapy After Comments About Catelynn Lowell’s Weight

Tyler Baltierra has told fans that he is in therapy after making comments about what his wife , Catelynn Lowell was eating in a preview for the new season of Teen Mom OG. What’s different about Baltierra’s delivery is that we know he doesn’t mean any harm, since his relationship with Lowell is the kind that most people would kill for. It all started in a preview for the August 22nd premiere, when Catelynn said that she might start up Weight Watchers again.   Baltierra was the adorablly clueless husband who thought that straightforward questions wouldn’t translate into a hidden message, and asked if the portion size she was eating adhered to Weight Watchers standards. Then Baltierra joked about not wanting a “hiefer” for a wife, and the producer off-camera gently teased him to not make fun of a woman’s eating habits. Tyler Baltierra: Fat-Shaming Catelynn Lowell in New Teen Mom Preview? Baltierra is friggin’ adorable and therefore gets a pass when it comes to almost anything (almost).  And yet, he admitted to fans on August 19th that he was going through therapy to work on his delivery. “Currently in therapy to work on my delivery of messages & opinions. Yes I know I’m a prick but I admit it instead of defend it #ImAnAsshole,” he tweeted. I think I speak for everyone when I say that Baltierra is NOT an asshole, he’s just a lovely guy who might have said the wrong thing to his lady love.  What man hasn’t done this? Unlike a lot of the other Teen Moms baby daddies, Baltierra’s fanbase was a lot more supportive of Novalee’s dad than, perhaps because Baltierra’s true colors as a kind, honest and compassionate father and partner have shone through over the years. Lowell went to rehab in March to deal with post natal depression and other mental health issues, with Baltierra supported 100%. “Still, definitely admiral of you 2 work things out in therapy 2 continue 2B the awesome husband you are for,” one Twitter fan wrote after the clip aired. Teen Mom OG returns to MTV at 9 p.m. on August 22nd. View Slideshow: Teen Mom Season 6 Previews: So Much Drama For the OG Mamas!

Matt Roberts Dies; 3 Doors Down Guitarist Was 38

Matt Roberts, former guitarist for the popular rock band 3 Doors Down, has passed away at the age of 38. Matt’s father, Darrell Roberts, broke the news online just moments ago. Matt left the band in 2012 due to health issues, but continued to tour with other groups and as a solo artist. Darrell Roberts tells TMZ that his son Darrell was scheduled to perform in Wisconsin today and rehearsed with other musicians until late last night. Father and son returned to their hotel, where Darrell says he was woken around 9 am by detectives who informed him that Matt had passed away . Prescription painkillers were found on the scene. Darrell says that both he and the authorities believe Matt’s apparent overdose was accidental. At this time, no official ruling has been made with regard to the cause of death. The results of a planned autopsy will likely be released next week. Roberts was with 3 Doors Down when the band rose to international fame with their 2000 hit “Kryptonite.” He stuck with the group for their subsequent best-selling singles “Here Without You” and “When I’m Gone.” The video for the latter song – a tribute to American war veterans – has been viewed more than 40 million times on YouTube: 3 Doors Down: “When I’m Gone” His musical talents and signature spiked blonde hair made Roberts one of the band’s most popular members. Darrell Roberts says his son’s fan base remained devoted even after he was forced to leave the band. He adds that Matt was “deeply beloved” by family and friends and described the loss as “devastating.” Tributes from fans and colleagues began pouring in on social media just minutes after news of Matt’s death was made public. Kailyn Lowry on Dating Preferences: No White Guys For Me!

Last week, we learned that Javi Marroquin is dating someone new just months after separating from wife Kailyn Lowry. Today, we learned the identity of Javi’s new girlfriend , and while the split between Lowry and Marroquin seems to have been mostly amicable, it can’t be easy to have to see your ex-dude’s new boo all over the Internet. Maybe that’s why Kail is talking about her love life these days. Lowry is popular on Snapchat, where she often posts doodles that feature a stick-figure character she calls “bae.” One of her recent snaps led to this question from a fan on Twitter (social media is so confusing these days): “Why is bae black?!” Kail responded: “What do you mean why? Lmao im only down with the brown girl.” For many fans the comment brought to mind Farrah Abraham’s recent remark that she only dates white guys . The whole situation raises the question: Can two people say the exact opposite thing and both be offensive? View Slideshow: Kailyn Lowry: Timeline of a Turbulent Teen Mom Life Apparently so, as folks on social media got pissed at both women. Here’s the thing: Everyone’s free to date whomever they want for whatever reason they want, and like it or not, you don’t have much say who you’re attracted to. That said, it always feels a little messy anyone screams their preferences from a roof top. Like, say you’re only attracted to people with a certain body type. That’s fine, but maybe you don’t need to broadcast that fact outside of say, a dating site, or some other context in which that information might be of use to strangers. Otherwise, you run the risk of making people feel unattractive simply because they don’t conform to your personal standards. We’re not judging, it’s just one of those troubling quandaries brought about by the Information Age. We’re all reaching more people on a daily basis than ever before, and as such, we might have to adapt and consider the things we say from angles we wouldn’t have had to previously. Did we just spend way too much time thinking about a tweet from a Teen Mom 2 star? You bet! Feel free to tear us a new one in the comments!
