Bob Burns Dies: Lynyrd Skynyrd Drummer Was 64

Bob Burns, a founding member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, has died at 64. The drummer, who played on the band’s first two albums, was killed in a car crash. A Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman said Burns, who was not wearing a seat belt, was killed when his car left the road , striking a mailbox and a tree. He was alone in the car, and no other cars were involved in the fatal Friday crash. Police are trying to establish if weather was a factor in the accident. Burns performed alongside singer Ronnie Van Zant, bassist Larry Junstrom and guitarists Gary Rossington and Allen Collins in Skynyd from 1966-74. Named after their childhood P.E. teacher, Leonard Skinner, the band recorded such songs as “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Simple Man” and “Free Bird.” Burns left the band after becoming exhausted by touring, and Artimus Pyle subsequently replaced him as drummer for 1975’s Nuthin’ Fancy album. He was not aboard the plane that crashed in 1977, killing three of the band’s members, including Van Zant, and disbanding the band until a decade later. The surviving members were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006, at which point Burns rejoined the group for a one-off performance. “Well, today I’m at a loss for words, but I just remember Bob being a funny guy,” Rossington said in a message posted on the Lynyrd Skynyrd Facebook page. “He used to do skits for us and make us laugh all the time, he was hilarious!” “Ironically, since we played Jacksonville yesterday, Dale, my daughter and I, went by the cemetery to see some of the guys in the band and my parents’ grave sites.” “On the way back, we went by Bob Burns’ old house. It was there in the carport where we used to first start to practice with Skynyrd. My heart goes out to his family.” “God bless him and them in this sad time. T-Pain Says Aaliyah’s Legacy Is Hyped Up Because Of Her Tragic Death

T-Pain Calls Aaliyah Over-hyped Due To Her Early Death T-Pain better get ready for the backlash. After debuting new track “Girlfriend,” featuring vocals from Aaliyah at a listening session for his new DJ Drama hosted mixtape The Iron Way , T-Pain addressed fans who feel that T-Pain and his autotune aren’t “worthy” of being on a record with the fallen R&B star … “People tend to–I don’t know man– I’m not trying to discredit Aaliyah in any kind of way. But you know how sometimes when people die–yeah. You know how somebody’s an a**hole their whole life, but when you go to their funeral it’s like ‘This guy was the greatest man that ever walked…’ No, I’m just sayin’! No, I’m not saying Aaliyah. But it’s like because she passed, nobody is deserving of being next to her. Nobody’s good enough. Nobody is good enough because she passed. If she was still alive, then everybody would’ve been like, ‘Oh! She’s tryna be Beyoncé!’ If she were still alive right now. But now that she’s passed, it’s like ‘Nobody could be her! Nobody could be her!’ That’s just how I feel.” What do you think? Does he have a point?

Cut The Check: Walmart Pays $10 Million Settlement To Comedian James McNair Who Died In Tracy Morgan Crash

James McNair’s Family Paid $10 Million By Walmart For His Death In Tracy Morgan Car Crash ‘Bout damn time! Via DNAifno The family of a comedian friend of Tracy Morgan who was killed last June when a Wal-Mart truck crashed into a luxury van he was riding in got $10 million from the retail giant to settle a lawsuit, DNAinfo New York has learned. Wal-Mart made the large payout to the family of James McNair to avoid potential losses from litigation, the McNair family’s lawyer said in court papers. Under the settlement, McNair’s two children, Jamel, 26, and Denita, 19, will split the payout after their lawyer, Daryl Zaslow, takes a nearly $3 million cut, according to court records. The children had sued Wal-Mart after one of its trucks slammed into a limousine van carrying McNair, Morgan and other comedians on the New Jersey Turnpike on June 7, 2014. New Jersey police charged the truck’s driver, Kevin Roper, with death by automobile and four other vehicle assault charges. The McNairs signed the settlement in October, but the deal wasn’t announced until January. At the time, the terms of the settlement were not revealed because of a confidentiality agreement both sides signed. But legal documents filed last month in Westchester Surrogate’s Court revealed the big payout to James McNair’s estate — and that Wal-Mart did not want the settlement sum publicized for fear it would hurt business. Congratulations to the McNair family. No amount of money can even come close to replacing a person you love, but hopefully this money will allow them to live a comfortable life in his absence. R.I.P. Missing Black Man Found Hanging From Tree In Mississippi

Mississippi Man Found Hanging From Tree A Mississipi man, missing for over a month, was just found hanging by his neck from a tree in the woods behind his home. Authorities are still unclear as to whether the man’s death was a suicide or a murder — or who would have reason to kill him in such a manner. Via CNN : The hanging death of an African-American man who had been missing since early this month and was found Thursday by local authorities in Mississippi has drawn the scrutiny of the FBI and the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division. The sheriff’s office in Claiborne County, Mississippi, had organized a search for the man, who had been missing since March 2 and was reported missing March 8. Authorities found the body hanging from a tree in the woods behind the residence where he had been living. It is unclear if it is a suicide, or if the man was killed by someone. A law enforcement official says the man found hanging is believed to be 54-year-old Otis Byrd, who has been missing since earlier this month. According to the Mississippi Department of Corrections, Byrd was convicted in 1980 for murdering a woman. He was paroled in 2006. We will keep you posted on this story as more developments arise. Did You Know? NY Chapter Of Racist SAE Fraternity Hazed A Black Man To Death In 2011

NY Chapter Of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Hazed A Black Man To Death By now, everyone knows about the Oklahoma University chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon that was shut down after it’s racist chants about how “n-words” aren’t welcome in their fraternity. But recent racist headlines surrounding the frat are shining a new light on another salacious story about the organization from a few years ago. Cornell University in Ithica, NY was forced to shut down it’s own chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon after the tragic death of one of its members. Haitian-born Georges Desdunes, a member of the fraternity during a hazing ritual that was carried out by some of his established bothers and at least one new pledge. Via Inquisitr : Georges Desdunes, a 19-year-old aspiring pre-med student at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, was found dead in the early morning hours of February 25, 2011, The New York Times reported. Earlier that night, as part of a fraternity initiation ritual, Desdunes — the only son of a widowed Haitian immigrant mother from Brooklyn — was kidnapped by Sigma Alpha Epsilon members, who bound him hand and foot with zip ties and poured large amounts of alcoholic drinks down his throat. They then left him unconscious on a couch in the common area of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house, where a member of the cleaning staff later found him dead. Unsurprisingly Georges’ was left for dead by his “brothers,” who were all were nowhere in site when he was found, nor when authorities came to give him medical assistance. Via The New York Times : When the police and firefighters arrived, they found an unresponsive male. He was not breathing, had no pulse and was cold to the touch. They laid him on the floor, cut off his sweatshirt, suctioned his throat and applied CPR. He was put on a stretcher and taken to a hospital in an ambulance. The rescue workers remarked later that there was not a single fraternity brother in sight, just the cleaners, who told the police what they knew, then went downstairs to finish the kitchen. Even though Georges died as a result of the ritual, three frat brothers were acquitted of misdemeanor hazing charges. His mother filed a $25 million wrongful death lawsuit. This entire organization seems to be a huge mess. SMH.

Chloe Sevigny Finds Jennifer Lawrence "Annoying," Clearly Has Awful Taste in People

We’ve discovered the one person on this planet who dislikes Jennifer Lawrence. In the latest issue of V Magazine, Chloe Sevigny explains why. “So much [success] is about marketing and selling the product. They’ll have a really peppy funny girl on the talk show rounds, and everybody adores her and loves her and wants to be her or f-ck her, and then so many more people want to watch the movie or TV show.” Lawrence certainly is a talk show darling, even sitting in to host The Late Show during one memorable appearance with David Letterman. “I love when a movie star is a great movie star,” Sevigny adds. “I think Angelina Jolie is a great movie star. I don’t think I can be that, or just be an actor. I don’t think I have the charisma. Which is probably why I never reached another level. I like Emma Stone. Whenever she’s herself, she’s really cute. ” Jennifer Lawrence I find annoying. Too crass .” Yes, too crass . Up Next: ” 14 Reasons Why We Love Jennifer Lawrence .” We’ll be redirecting you shortly… Sevigny worries that people focus too much on “personality” over actual “acting ability.” “What I did on Big Love, Hit & Miss, and American Horror Story, it’s not like I’m just playing the same character over and over again,” she says, blowing hard on her own hard. “I would like to be respected more as an actress. It’s not like I can complain about anything. I think I’ve had great opportunities, but you can always have more.” Sure, maybe. But first you better check yourself before you wreck yourself, Chloe Sevigny.
