Radio and TV host/personality/entrepreneur Dick Clark has died at the age of 82, reports the AP . The “American Bandstand”/”New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” fixture had suffered a heart attack following an outpatient procedure in Santa Monica. Over the course of his six-decade career Clark also produced awards shows including the American Music Awards (which he founded), the Emmy Awards, and the Golden Globes; he even dabbled in film, writing and starring in the 1968 crime drama Killers Three . Killers Three marked the rare acting gig for Clark, who found far greater success behind the camera as producer and in front of it as the host of numerous television programs and game shows over the years. In it, Clark starred as one of a trio of North Carolinian criminals who embark on a crime spree and head to California. It’s certainly not one of Clark’s best-known works — The New York Times called it ” flimsy ” in its 1969 review — but the film, and Clark’s turn as a cop-killing criminal, is a curious little-known addition to his legacy. Of course, there was the time Clark popped up on the blooper episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air , uttered the line “Lemme break you off a little somethin’,” and showed Will Smith how it was done. Now that’s more like the Dick Clark we all knew and loved. Leave your fond remembrances below. [ AP ]
Cissy Houston Doesn’t Want Rihanna To Play Whitney Houston In Film Cissy Houston has made it pretty clear how she feels about the idea of Rihanna playing her daughter in a biopic… To put it mildly — she ain’t having it! WHITNEY HOUSTON’s still-grieving mother is furious after learning that RIHANNA might portray her tragic daughter in a feature film, sources tell The ENQUIRER. The 24-year-old R&B singer has referred to Whitney, who accidentally drowned in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton hotel on Feb. 11, as one of her idols. She recently told an interviewer she would love to play Whitney on the big screen. But Whitney’s mother, gospel singer Cissy Houston, 78, fumed when she heard Rihanna was gunning for the role. “Over my dead body!” declared the pop star granny, according to a source. “Cissy believes Rihanna celebrates everything she hated about Whitney’s life – the drugging, the boozing, the abusive relationship,” the source continued. As The ENQUIRER reported in January, Rihanna’s pals were urging her to check into rehab after last year’s hard-partying “Loud” tour was plagued with health issues and a trip to the hospital for what her reps said was “the flu.” “Cissy does not think Whitney should be represented by someone like Rihanna,” said the source. “In spite of what anyone thought about Whitney, she sees her as a God-fearing Christian who loved the Lord.” It seems like Cissy hasn’t fully accepted all of who Whitney was and that’s sad but considering that Rihanna hasn’t done much acting outside of “Battleship” we probably wouldn’t want her playing Whitney either. On another note, doesn’t this photo of RihRih’s bestie Melissa kinda remind you of Whitney — something about the wig… Source More On Bossip! Trayvon Martin’s Brother Jahvaris Fulton Speaks On His Behalf With all of George Zimmerman’s well connected defenders clamoring to his defense, it’s good to hear Trayvon Martin’s big brother Jahvaris speaking up on his behalf! A lot of conflicting statements have been made about the night Trayvon Martin was shot to death by volunteer neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman. Martin’s big brother doesn’t want any of them to cloud the memory of the bright, positive teen he’d been close to. In an interview with CNN’s “A360,” 21-year-old Jahvaris Fulton said Zimmerman’s description of the fatal night –and his claim that he acted in self defense– doesn’t match the Trayvon he knew. “Based on what I heard, with the 911 tapes and all the evidence, he tried to get away from the situation,” ” the soft-spoken college student told the network on Friday. “He wasn’t violent. So for him to actually jump on someone he doesn’t even know, to me that’s not him. He’s smarter than that.” Fulton’s comments echo what he told local media in late March, shortly after the shooter’s father and brother took to national television to bolster Zimmerman’s self defense claims. “I was listening to Zimmerman’s father speak yesterday, and he said something like, my brother was on top of his son and said ‘You’re going to die tonight,’” Fulton told Miami’s CBS 4. “That doesn’t sound like my brother at all.” In his interview with CNN, Fulton said that Martin was an honor student who couldn’t wait to go to college after visiting his brother at Florida International University during spring break. “I would like to remember him as… someone who’s positive, happy, bright future ahead of him,” Fulton said.”He was probably going to be somebody.” We’re glad Jahvaris is helping to keep his brother’s memory alive. Michigan Construction Sign Hacked, Vandal Posts Racial Slur About Trayvon Martin The ugly racial divide over the shooting death of Trayvon Martin has reared its head in Michigan. Motorists in Dearborn report seeing a racial slur on a construction sign along I-94 overnight. The digital roadside sign displayed the message: “Trayvon A N***er”, a reference to Trayvon Martin, the Florida teen who police say was gunned down by a neighborhood watch volunteer in February. “The portable sign has a panel that was broken in to,” said MDOT spokesman Rob Morosi. “The message was changed and the keyboard was actually stolen.” FOX 2′s Amy Andrews reports the message was displayed for over an hour until workers were able to power down the sign. Michigan State Police are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to give them a call. This is a shame. Fawk the punk beyotch that did this isht! R.I.P. Trayvon Source More On Bossip! Very sad day…. Veteran broadcast journalist Mike Wallace has died, according to CBS News. He was 93 years old and had been in declining health in recent years. A cause of death has not been released yet. “Face the Nation” host Bob Schieffer announced his death this morning on the program. Schieffer said Wallace died at a care facility in New Haven, Conn., where he had lived in recent years. Wallace was a correspondent on the CBS News program “60 Minutes,” since its premiere in 1968 where he earned a reputation as one of the toughest interviewers in the business. He spent 38 seasons with the program before announcing his retirement in 2006. But Wallace remained as correspondent emeritus with the program and still occasionally contributed to the news magazine and CBS News platforms after the 2005-06 season, according to his official CBS News biography. When he announced his retirement, Wallace told CBS News’ Bob Schieffer that the job has been a quite a journey. “To go around the world, to talk to almost anybody you want to talk to, to have enough time on the air, so that you could really tell a full story,” Wallace said at the time. “What a voyage of discovery it was.” Over the years, Wallace sat down with seven U.S. Presidents as well as other world leaders, celebrities, sports stars, and controversial figures like Dr. Jack Kevorkian, Jose Canseco, Yasir Arafat and Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. His investigative reporting in the 1990′s revealed the secrets of the tobacco industry and inspired the Hollywood movie, “The Insider.” Wallace also made his name as a war correspondent in the 1960′s, covering Vietnam. He started his journalism career in the 1940s as a radio news writer and broadcaster for Chicago Sun. He joined CBS News in 1951 and later returned to the network in 1963 after leaving in 1955. During his remarkable career, he won more than 20 Emmy Awards and several other honors. He also wrote several books including “Between You and Me,” with Gary Paul Gates and “Heat and Light: Advice for the Next Generation of Journalists” in collaboration with Fordham University journalism professor Beth Knobel. ABC News President Ben Sherwood said Wallace was “an intrepid journalist who used the medium of television to powerful ends. A pioneer of broadcasting and network news, Mike was there at the creation.” “Every Sunday night America tuned in to see what questions he would ask and who would be exposed to his hard charging quest for the truth. Mike’s tough questioning inspired generations of journalists. Our thoughts are with our former colleague Chris and his entire family,” Sherwood said in a statement. Wallace was married four times. He is survived by his wife Mary Yates Wallace, his son, Chris, a stepdaughter, Pauline Dora, and stepson Eames Yates. Today is an incredibly sad day in media and broadcast news. We salute Mike Wallace and his tremendous efforts in broadcast journalism. Rest in peace! Source More On Bossip! “Like It Is” Host, Award-Winning Journalist Gil Noble Passes Away This is another huge loss of yet another legend this week. Gil Noble, the longtime host of WABC-TV’s groundbreaking public affairs program “Like It Is,” on which he interviewed such notables as Nelson Mandela, Muhammad Ali and Jesse Jackson, died Thursday at age 80. The television station announced the death of the Emmy Award-winning journalist, who had a debilitating stroke last summer, on its website. “Gil Noble’s life and work had a profound effect on our society and culture,” WABC-TV President and General Manager Dave Davis said. “His contributions are a part of history and will be remembered for years to come.” Noble, who was black, joined WABC-TV as a reporter in 1967 and anchored the station’s weekend newscasts the following year. Also in 1968, he became host of “Like It Is,” which focused on issues concerning African-Americans. He was equally as comfortable interviewing heads of state such as Mandela or Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe as he was interviewing entertainers such as Harry Belafonte and Bill Cosby or sports icons such as Ali or Arthur Ashe. Noble also created documentaries on luminaries such as W.E.B. Du Bois, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr. and Charlie Parker. U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel, a friend, said Noble’s legacy “will continue as a trailblazer for African-Americans in journalism.” “For over forty years he was perhaps the nation’s most important black journalist, bringing the struggle for civil rights and black equality into the homes of millions of Americans,” Rangel said. Noble was the recipient of seven Emmy awards and received a lifetime achievement award from the National Association of Black Journalists. He also received five honorary doctorates and was cited with more than 650 awards from various community groups. He had a passion for jazz and was a member of the board of directors of The Jazz Foundation of America. He is survived by his wife, Jean, and five children. Funeral services haven’t yet been announced. Condolences to the Noble family. We are mourning his death along with so many others, as we continue to celebrate his legacy! R.I.P. Sweet baby Jesus… Autopsy Reports State Drugs And Paraphernalia Found In Whitney Houston’s Hotel Room According to TMZ reports : A “spoon with a white crystal-like substance on it” and a “white powdery substance” — which we know was later tested and determined to be cocaine — was found in the hotel room where Whitney Houston died … this according to the singer’s final autopsy report. The report , which gives a detailed description of Whitney’s room when officials arrived, says “Located on the south portion of the counter was a small spoon with a white crystal-like substance in it and a rolled up piece of white paper, along with other miscellaneous items.” “Located in the top drawer, in the north side of the counter were remnants of a white powdery substance, and a portable mirror on a base.” Officials found more white powder on the base of the mirror. The report also states, “[Whitney] possibly overdosed on a narcotic substance, prescription medications, over the counter medications and alcohol.” According to the report, Whitney’s body was discovered FACE DOWN in the bath tub … with a “bloody purge coming from her nose.” Officials say there were no signs of foul play. The report notes Whitney had a history of substance abuse … which was evident by a “perforation of posterior nasal septum.” The singer’s official cause of death is listed as accidental drowning — but heart disease and “chronic” cocaine use were contributing factors. The report notes … when officials discovered the body, Whitney was wearing a brown wig “tightly attached to the hair.” This whole thing just keeps going from bad to worse…R.I.P.
