Hawks GM Danny Ferry Made Racially Offensive Remarks That Led To Internal Investigation Via Deadspin The email that led Atlanta Hawks co-owner Bruce Levenson to announce his intention to sell his controlling stake in the team emerged from a months-long investigation by an outside firm, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. And that probe was ordered after a separate “offensive and racist” remark was included in a scouting report for Luol Deng. The account was confirmed by ESPN, which first reported that Deng was the player in question. At the meeting in early June, GM Danny Ferry accidentally read the offending remark from Deng’s report aloud. “Instead of [verbally] editing it,” said Hawks co-owner CEO Steve Koonin, “he said the comment.” Following the meeting, Koonin said members of the Atlanta-based ownership group raised a red flag regarding the comment and said: ‘This is wrong. This should not be said. It’s not appropriate in any world but not a post-(Donald) Sterling world.” Some in the ownership group called for an outside investigation, so the team retained the law firm of Alston & Bird. The firm conducted 19 interviews and examined 24,000 documents, including the 2012 email written by Bruce Levenson that emerged yesterday. Levenson called that email, in which he discussed ways to draw more white and affluent fans, “inappropriate and offensive” and “inflammatory nonsense.” Levenson’s email was addressed to Ferry, with co-owners Todd Foreman and Ed Peskowitz CC’ed. It’s not clear if the investigation is complete, or if more potentially offensive documents will turn up. But Steve Koonin told the AJC that “other disciplinary action will be taken, including against general manager Danny Ferry.” According to Yahoo! Sports , this is comment that Danny Ferry made during that meeting: “He’s still a young guy overall,” Ferry said, league sources with direct knowledge of the probe told Yahoo. “He’s a good guy overall. But he’s not perfect. He’s got some African in him. And I don’t say that in a bad way.” We always knew that Donald Sterling wasn’t the only NBA owner or executive that subscribed to an ignorant way of thinking, and here goes the proof-positive pudding. Precious Parker, 30, and Sabrina James, 23, knocked on the door of an apartment building on Ocean Ave. near Newkirk Ave. in Flatbush at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday and held a 34-year-old man, a 37-year-old man, and a 25-year-old woman at gunpoint demanding they move out or be killed, police said. The women then stole $800, an iPhone and personal information from the tenants, police said. The terrified residents left soon after, said a night porter, who declined to give his name. “They just left,” he said. “They said somebody wants to kill them.” The usurpers then squatted in the apartment, a law enforcement source said. The source added the trio may have been targeted because of their race, as one of the women said she didn’t like “that white people were moving into the area,” the police source said. Both women were arrested Saturday in the apartment and charged with robbery and unlawful imprisonment, police said. Cops recovered a handgun, a law enforcement source said. Bye hipsters! We’re mourning the death of another black leader . George Holmes Executive Director And CEO Of Congress of Racial Equality Dead At 63 George Holmes, who can be seen in the photo above on the left, being arrested alongside Al Sharpton as they protested fare hikes in NYC back in 1984, has passed away. According to NY Daily News reports: Civil rights activist George Holmes has died, his family announced Friday. He was 63. Holmes, who died Aug. 16 of undisclosed causes, served as executive director and CEO of the Congress of Racial Equality. Born in Roxbury, Mass., Holmes was raised in Harlem and liked to joke that he attended college at U.C.L.A. — University on the Corner of Lenox Ave. His activism began in the early 60s when he entered Brooklyn Tech, one of the city’s elite high schools. It had 47 black students, and no black teachers or black scholastic clubs — until Holmes founded one. He worked at Macy’s, Bank of New York and the Postal Service before joining CORE in 1974. Holmes is survived by his wife of 26 years, Donna, children Louanna Rosado and Dakar Holmes, siblings Joy Copeland, Larry Holmes, Marie Wynne and France Barron, grandchildren Parris Hill, Xiamara Rosado and Sierra Rosado and a host of nieces and nephews and other family. This answer is basically an “eff you” to the racial criticism… Ridley Scott Responds To Casting Criticism There’s been a justified uproar over the all-white casting of main Egyptian characters in Ridley Scott’s new Biblical thriller, “Exodus.” The director finally addressed the backlash …but gave a pretty unsatisfactory answer to his thought process. Via DailyDot : Ridley Scott has finally responded to the backlash against his new movie Exodus: Gods and Kings, but his explanation is unlikely to stem the tide of criticism. Exodus is a Biblical epic inspired by the exodus of the Hebrews, with Moses and Ramses II as the two central characters. The movie isn’t out until December, but it’s already faced criticism for casting so many white actors in Egyptian and Middle Eastern roles. The most damning example is how the heroes and royals are almost all played by white actors, while most of the black actors in the movie have minor roles as slaves, thieves, and assassins. In an interview with Yahoo!, Scott explained why he decided on what is described as an “international” cast. Egypt was—as it is now—a confluence of cultures, as a result of being a crossroads geographically between Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. We cast major actors from different ethnicities to reflect this diversity of culture, from Iranians to Spaniards to Arabs. There are many different theories about the ethnicity of the Egyptian people, and we had a lot of discussions about how to best represent the culture. This makes about as much sense as the explanation that Darren Aronofsky’s Noah had an all-white cast because it was “mythical.” While the overall cast of Exodus is relatively “international,” Scott’s answer fails to acknowledge the unrealistic prominence of white European and American actors onscreen. The vast majority of main characters are played by white actors from the U.S. and U.K., with Christian Bale as Moses, Aaron Paul as Joshua, and Sigourney Weaver as Egyptian queen Tuya. Scott mentions discussing how to represent Egyptian culture, but the result was casting Joel Edgerton as an Egyptian pharaoh, and then covering him in fake tan to give him darker skin. The idea of Egypt as a cultural melting pot is more or less acceptable, but Exodus illustrates this by casting pale-skinned people of Northern European descent as leaders and heroes, while dark-skinned people are criminals and background extras. SMH! So he basically threw a bunch of buzzwords together and said “deal with it.” Will you be giving this film your dollars??

Duck Dynasty Dad Phil Robertson Releases New Book, Defends Controversial Comments Details from Mediaite via Good Morning America: Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson is back in the spotlight and this he’s written a full book of his philosophy on life titled unPHILtered: The Way I See It. The reality TV star, who caused a major firestorm for A&E last year when he denounced homosexuality in the pages of GQ, spoke to Good Morning America’s Ryan Owens about his unique journey over the past year. “I don’t hate anybody,” Robertson insisted in the interview. Asked specifically about the comments he made, in which he compared gay sex to beastiality, among other things, he had this to say: “The only place that I know of that I could have gone to answer that question would be a Bible. The dictionary wouldn’t have explained it. An encyclopedia wouldn’t have explained it, whether it was a sin or not. So I went to the only source I had to answer his question… I’m as much of a homophobe as Jesus was. People who are participating in homosexual behavior, they need to know that I love them.” The GQ interview also included some controversial comments about the American South’s history of racism, which Robertson is also trying to clarify months later. “There is one race, one race on this planet,” he said Tuesday. “It’s called the human race, we’re all the same. To me, there is absolutely nothing that has color to do with it.” Finally, Robertson had a message for all those people out there using social media to criticize his beliefs. “I don’t own a cell phone, I don’t have one,” he said. “I’ve never turned on a computer in my life. So whatever America is saying or not saying about me, true or not true, what they need to understand is, I’m not hearing it.” We live in a politically correct world where often people like Phil are not allowed to voice their opinions. What the hell is going on at USC?!?! USC’s Anthony Brown Claims Coach Steve Sarkisian Is A Racist Via BleacherReport USC was already having a bizarre week in light of the Josh Shaw ordeal. Now things have only gotten worse for the school, as senior running back Anthony Brown has quit the team and alleged that head coach Steve Sarkisian is a racist. In an Instagram post Brown has since removed from his account, he wrote, “Sark treated me like a slave in his Office…Can’t play for a racist MAN!!!!! #Fighton.” The message was posted alongside an image that simply said, “Couldn’t play for a racist man!!!!” A reporter at Scout had reported on Coach Sarkisian’s reaction to Anthony’s allegation. Steve Sarkisian just came into the media room to inform us that Anthony Brown has quit the football team. Brown went on Instagram and Facebook, accusing Sarkisian of being a racist. Sark said he was “shocked” at these allegations, called them “ridiculous” and welcomed us to talk to anyone in or around the program and they would tell us that it simply wasn’t true. Sark said they tried to accommodate Brown, moving him to running back. He was unfortunately hurt but Sark said they still tried to get him to stay on the team. Sark felt he could help the team. One of Anthony’s teammates, Antwaun Woods, donned a cape to defend his coach. Southern California has quite a mess on it’s hands. Coach Sark better pray to white Jesus that there isn’t a recording of his alleged “slave master mentality” that could surface to the media.
